Which academic or extracurricular achievement are you most proud of during business school? I’m most proud of my experience as MCSC President. It was a ton of work in the Fall to put together all the events and run the club, but incredibly rewarding to see people land internships for the summer!

What achievement are you most proud of in your professional career? I’m really happy to be starting at Deloitte in the fall. It’s been a culmination of a lot of hard work throughout my professional career. I’ve been super fortunate to have an incredible support group of friends, family, and mentors who’ve helped me and picked me up when I was down, and I didn’t want to let them down.

Why did you choose this business school? The people. I visited all the schools I was admitted to and felt the best connection with people at USC.

Who was your favorite MBA professor? Scott Abrams is awesome. I think he has a unique ability to connect to students, while also teaching an extremely important class in financial valuations. He’s also the academic director of the MBA, and is extremely committed to consistently making changes to the academic curriculum to better suit the skills needed by students in the recruiting process.

What was your favorite course as an MBA? I’ve had a few favorite courses, but I’m currently in a crisis management class and have found that to be extremely relevant and applicable to both my professional experience and club leadership. The frameworks being taught regarding gathering information, strategizing, and taking decisive action have been a great supplement to that experience. It has been a good debrief of my experience from last semester and Gordon Ho provides extremely relevant and real-0life experience and stories.

What was your favorite MBA event or tradition at your business school? That has to be Disorientation, it’s a 2nd year trip to Las Vegas with the whole class.

What is the biggest myth about your school? I’m not sure of any myths about the school. I think the experience has been everything I expected and more.

What did you love most about your business school’s town? Los Angeles is a fantastic location. There are so many different regions, cities, and locales within Southern California. LA is just a tiny drop on the map in SoCal. There’s a lot of different types of food. LAX, while crowded, has a ton of non-stop flights to countries around the world. There’s lots to do here.

What surprised you the most about business school? Someone told me before business school that I’d get out what I put in. I went in knowing that, but the opportunity and doors that have opened because of the effort put in has surprised me. Something that has also been relevant now being a 2nd year is seeing the 1st years secure internships. It’s one of the best things in the world to see people you care about and are rooting for land offers and find success in their goals.

Which MBA classmate do you most admire? There’s honestly so, so many people in the program who have had a huge impact on my personally and professionally. There’s a ton of people I look up to and constantly ask for advice. One of the people who I admire the most is Sam Simon. She’s an incredible ball of sunshine and always has this incredible smile on her face. There’s been days when recruiting has been tough or club leadership has me overwhelmed and talking to her always encourages me. She’s also incredibly hard working and always seems to know what to do or say in tough situations. She’s really inspirational.

What are the top two items on your professional bucket list? Short term I want to make manager at Deloitte – I’m excited to get back to work after business school. I also want to do a secondment of sorts and get the opportunity to work on an international project.

What made Andrew such an invaluable addition to the Class of 2024?

“For the past year, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Andrew Lung in his role as President of the Marshall Consulting & Strategy Club, one of our largest and most active MBA career clubs with over 200 members. Andrew’s responsibilities encompass day to day leadership of the club and it’s 15-member board, coordination of club training alongside our graduate career office, engagement with alumni and industry partners, and oversight of club mentoring and social activities.

From day one, Andrew challenged the status quo, highlighting the need for greater opportunities for our international students and greater engagement with strategy firms overall (e.g., MBBs). He personally took the initiative to gather member input, prioritize, and engage consulting firms based on member interest and ability to be accretive to employment outcomes. Andrew initiated new events, formal and informal, to help club members sharpen their networking skills, adapt to local business culture, develop strong behavioral and case interview skills, and engage with industry practitioners and recruiters. With Andrew’s efforts, opportunities for students to directly engage with strategy firms open to international students increased 85% year over year.

I have received positive feedback regarding Andrew’s impact this year from numerous employers, USC staff, and his peers. Andrew is a true leader who delivers on his goals while earning the respect of his peers and industry practitioners. Andrew is someone who leads with vision, expects collaboration from his teammates, and personally shares his knowledge and experience with first year members. He is an exemplary representative of USC Marshall and a role model for those around him.  It has been my pleasure to work alongside such an inspiring and thoughtful leader.”
