What makes Austin such a great place to earn an MBA? Austin has so much energy. There’s always something going on, whether it’s a Texas football game, ACL music festival, Formula 1 racing, SXSW, or a concert, comedy show, or Barton Springs outing. You get the events and energy of a bigger city with the culture and vibe of a smaller town. It’s nice being a student at the university within the “college town” –while the town itself is over a million interesting people who love their lives here.

Aside from your classmates and location, what was the key part of Texas McCombs’ MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? Our academic cadence allows for a lot of freedom to explore personal interests. After you finish the core curriculum in the first fall semester, you can start to schedule whatever classes you want. After majoring in Finance in undergrad, there’s a lot that I want to learn within marketing and strategy – and I have the ability to pursue courses in those disciplines without needing to sacrifice them for another Finance class. Our professors are also incredible instructors. It felt like other schools had faculty who were more interested in research and forced to teach on the side. However, our professors at McCombs are both incredibly engaging and invested in their students, making the classroom experience a lot of fun.

What course, club or activity excites you the most at Texas McCombs? As the Class President of our Graduate Business Council, I have the unique opportunity to engage with our students and faculty to continue driving our program forward. We have an ambitious group of students here – one of my favorite parts of my role is speaking with peers who aren’t even members of GBC but have great ideas to improve our program and working with them to bring them to life. On top of that, helping to plan some of our most memorable events throughout the year, such as tailgates and formals, is just a lot of fun.

When you think of the University of Texas, what word comes to mind? Why? Big. They say everything is bigger in Texas, and our university is no exception. Our McCombs MBA has a very tight-knit community, but outside of it is 44,000 undergraduates and over 10,000 other graduate students. The programming across campus is top notch – last month I attended a promotion in a campus auditorium for Bill Gurley’s new book Runnin’ Down a Dream, where I sat fourth row and watched Bill and Matthew McConaughey discuss what makes a fulfilling career. They’re just two of our incredible alumni that regularly make time to engage with students here.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: At Harbor, I helped to lead the Project Management Office for the merger between two AmLaw 100 law firms. I was responsible for managing our Finance and IT workstreams, working with stakeholders across both functions and both firms to align our integration strategy and prepare for our Day One target. We made it through go-live smoothly and successfully launched the merged firm within our project timeline. It was cool walking through downtown Chicago and seeing the new logo for the merged firm on the wall of their building, knowing that our team played a key role in bringing it to life.

Looking ahead two years, what would make your MBA experience at McCombs successful? Making lasting friendships with my classmates, participating in new experiences within Austin and globally, and growing into a well-rounded business leader.
