Aside from your classmates and location, what was the key part of Texas McCombs’ MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? Aside from the collaborative community and Austin’s dynamic business environment, the key reason I chose Texas McCombs was its emphasis on experiential learning. The Texas McCombs Investment Fund offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the world of investing, allowing students to make real-world decisions with actual capital, something few other programs can offer. I was also drawn to McCombs’ entrepreneurial spirit and flexibility, especially the ability to shape new fellowships in areas of growing interest. Being part of the inaugural class of the Business of Sports Fellowship reflects that forward-thinking approach and creates space for students to explore emerging industries while building a lasting impact. Together, these opportunities make McCombs a place where you can both learn and lead.

What course, club or activity excites you the most at Texas McCombs? As someone from Ireland who grew up playing golf, I eagerly joined the McCombs Golf Club. Golf has always been a big part of my life as it helped build lasting friendships. I see the club as a great way to stay involved in the sport I love, while building new relationships with classmates and alumni in a relaxed, yet meaningful setting. It’s also a perfect complement to the academic rigor of the MBA program and a great reminder of the value of connection and composure—both on the course and in business.

When you think of the University of Texas, what word comes to mind? Why? The word that comes to mind when I think of the University of Texas is collaboration. From the team-oriented culture at McCombs to the broader Longhorn community, UT fosters an environment where students, faculty, and alumni actively support one another. Collaboration isn’t just encouraged, it’s embedded in how people learn, lead, and make an impact. That spirit of working together to solve complex problems and push ideas forward is exactly what makes UT stand out to me.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: One of my biggest career accomplishments so far was my journey from working as a host in a hospitality group to eventually becoming the general manager. Starting at the entry level gave me a deep understanding of day-to-day operations and customer service. I worked hard to develop my leadership, problem-solving, and team-building skills along the way, eventually earning the position of GM. This was a key milestone for my career – not just because of the title, but because it reflected the trust my team and leadership placed in me. It allowed me to make a meaningful impact on both staff development and business performance.

Looking ahead two years, what would make your MBA experience at McCombs successful? Looking ahead two years, I would consider the experience a success if I graduate having developed both the technical skills and real-world experience necessary, while building a strong, supportive network of peers and mentors. Ultimately, a successful MBA for me combines professional growth, meaningful connections, and the chance to make a tangible impact both in and outside the classroom.
