Wharton MBA Student Awarded Medal of Honor

Penn Today: “Retired U.S. Army Major Nicholas Dockery, a student in Penn’s MBA Program for Executives in the Wharton School, was recently awarded the Medal of Honor, the United States’ highest military decoration for valor, for his actions in Afghanistan in 2012.

The medal was presented by President Donald J. Trump on behalf of the U.S. Congress during a ceremony at the White House. On conferring the medal, Trump said Dockery left the battlefield “a legend and a hero.”

The medal followed a March vote by the U.S. House and Senate authorizing the president to confer it. The Medal of Honor recognizes service members who distinguish themselves through gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of their own lives, above and beyond the call of duty. First awarded in 1862, it has gone to roughly 3,500 recipients.”

Chicago Booth Names Endowed Deanship After Distinguished Alum

Booth School of Business: “The University of Chicago Booth School of Business has received a generous commitment from University of Chicago trustee Steven S. Wymer, MBA ’89, as a part of the university’s recently launched campaign, Chicago Minds. In acknowledgment of Wymer’s philanthropy, Chicago Booth’s academic leader is now the Steven S. Wymer Dean. This is the first endowed deanship in the university’s history.

Madhav Rajan, current Booth dean and Distinguished Service Professor of Accounting, as well as chief global strategist for the university, is the first to hold this title. Since his initial appointment as Booth dean in 2017, Rajan’s successes at the school have included launching new masters programs, reshaping Booth’s footprint in Asia and EMEA, and bolstering alumni engagement, resulting in significant support for scholarships and faculty research.

“Each Chicago Booth dean is tasked with safeguarding the school’s ability to educate leaders and create knowledge that is relevant to the evolving business landscape. Establishing an endowed deanship underscores the importance of this responsibility,” said Rajan. “It is fitting for the deanship to bear Steve’s name, given his remarkable philanthropic leadership and his commitment to ensuring that Booth sustains its core strengths well into the future.”

Stanford GSB Graduates Its 100th Class 

Stanford GSB: “Under an auspicious blue sky, families, friends, faculty, staff, and fellow classmates celebrated the newest alumni of Stanford Graduate School of Business at the school’s June 13 commencement ceremony at Frost Amphitheater. Laurene Powell Jobsopen in new window, MBA ’91, entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist, gave the graduation address to the Class of 2026.

Powell Jobs spoke from the heart about her own entrepreneurial journey, starting with her arrival at Stanford GSB in her “ancient Volkswagen Cabriolet” after a cross-country road trip. Though her post-business school path wasn’t linear, Powell Jobs pivoted when she realized her organic food company was “25 years too early.” Her passion, curiosity, and appetite for change led her forward. “What I had learned at the GSB was not only how to build a company,” she told the audience. “The lessons were far broader, more enduring, and more inspiring. I had learned to think like an entrepreneur. And when you combine an entrepreneur’s mindset with a bold idea and determination, you can create almost anything.”
