Candidly, I see far more “science” and less “data” in your profile. In other words, you’re either not providing enough information about your candidacy OR there’s not much to share. What are your job duties and professional achievements? (my alma mater MIT Sloan expects that!) What are your specific roles in the various extracurriculars? Or are you just a “member”? From what I see, you have a strong consulting credential, which is good — but far from unique. You intend to switch careers from consulting to finance, which will require a clear and convincing rationale. Your academic profile is robust with degrees from both Maryland and SMU, and a respectable but not stellar GRE. I assume that you want to get admitted this year rather than trying again at age 30+ so I suggest adding a few more top-tier schools to your target list to maximize chances for success.

Hi, it’s Nisha from mbaMission! I’ll need a lot more information about you to be able to logically assess your odds of acceptance. A few questions:

1. Your undergrad GPA is on the lower side (though the rigor of the biology major will be considered) – what was your Master’s GPA? In any case, given Sloan’s metrics focus, I recommend retaking GRE for a higher score (aim for mid-160s for each section)

2. You provided less than 2 years of your work history in consulting – what about the other 7? Has there been progression regarding positions, salary, and compensation?

3. What are your motivations behind wanting to enter Investment Banking/Hedge Fund? That’s a pretty big switch (though you do have strong quant skills) so you’ll want to fully explain your motivations in your application

4. The extracurriculars you’ve been involved in – have you made meaningful impact, preferably in a leadership capacity? Impact matters a great deal to Sloan.

Hi Dash K-it’s Lisa Cummings from Stratus Admissions. Biology major to Masters in Data Science – I am guessing that there might be a really interesting story there that you can tell. I’d like to learn a lot more about that and your background as there is very little info in work history to help me get a picture of your candidacy. Are you sponsored by your firm? Your stats fall a bit short for Sloan, hopefully there are other areas of strength that will help prop up your candidacy. Did you take the GRE more than once? Are you considering retaking it? Is there a positive trend in your GPA that you can discuss? Or someting that impacted your ability to reach your full potential undergrad? All these things could be mentioned in your applications. If your Masters GPA was solid that could somewhat mitigate the 3.1. When I was on the adcomm at Sloan we would want to know specifics about work responsibilities as well as any activities outside of work and in the community. Management consulting at a top firm is a post MBA goal, for many candidates, why the switch for you? It is not unreasonable to want to change but Sloan, and other schools, will want to know why. With so little info here it is difficult to provide an estimate on your odds. Best of luck!
