When you think of Georgia Tech, what are the first things that come to mind? How have your experiences with the Scheller MBA and the larger university thus far reinforced or upended these early impressions? Technology and innovation are the first things that come to mind when thinking about Georgia Tech, which are the primary reasons I chose to attend. As an electrical engineer wanting to do a career pivot, I feel that Scheller is a great fit to leverage my current skill set but also continue to learn more to make me an attractive potential employee.

What has been your favorite part of Atlanta so far? What has made it such a great place to earn an MBA? Atlanta is a fun city with so much always going on! Between the music and food scenes, and the mix of both a nature and city feel, it has everything I need to have an exciting and full life outside of school. I also love that Atlanta is now becoming a home to a lot of tech companies. It’s a creative hub full of diversity.

Aside from your classmates and location, what was the key part of the Scheller MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? Career services was a key part. I knew I wanted to make a career pivot and wanted guidance and support in doing so. Before the fall semester began, we had assignments to revamp our resumes and cover letters and to prepare for the internship search which was incredibly helpful in preparing to start the program. I felt very prepared to enter recruitment season in the field I want to end up in.

What course, club or activity have you enjoyed the most so far at Georgia Tech Scheller? There’s too many to choose from! I really enjoy the Blacks in Business and Women in Business clubs, as well as the Managing Technology Club and the Alumni Committee (I am a first-year representative!).

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: During the time at my first job, the manufacturing plant transformed from a one product line facility to a multi-product line facility, with the newer line including automotive metal components. I ended up being one of the engineers hired into one of the new departments supporting the automotive lines. Being one of the engineers helping to create and refine reliability and maintenance procedures and processes was a huge learning opportunity.

Describe your biggest accomplishment as an MBA student so far: My biggest accomplishment as an MBA student has been stepping out of my comfort zone and building a strong professional network.  My goal is to make a career pivot and networking in that field is critical to landing an internship and post-MBA job. By talking with my classmates, professors and Scheller alumni, I’ve been put in contact with great people who are willing and eager to help me in my new ventures.

What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into the Scheller MBA program? My advice is to be as authentic as possible in your application and essay. The admissions staff really works hard to make sure you will be a good fit within the Scheller culture and would be happy here. Scheller is unique with how small the class size is, but I believe it’s an asset because you really get to know all your classmates. Make sure to explain why Scheller is the place you want to attend and what you can bring to the Scheller community. Also, reach out to the current students and alumni. We all are excited to talk about Scheller and what the program is really like.
