The first time I applied for business school, I thought I was a shoo-in—high test scores, ample industry experience in managerial positions, and recommenders who loved me. I cannot recommend Scott enough! Scott was very candid with me in regard to which schools I would be competitive at, as well as helping me maximize my scholarship opportunity. Most importantly, Scott did not employ any fear-based tactics or “you need me” speeches that many other of his competitors did. Like most applicants, the standardized test (in my case, the GRE) was my greatest source of stress, but Scott ended up raising my score from 315 to 326 in just 2.5 months. I started the MBA application process pretty late (treated it like a sprint, not a marathon). I started working through applications and the GMAT together starting in June/July for R1 deadlines in September. I reached out to Scott because I knew I was going to be overwhelmed. I first met Scott at his PMC booth in an MBA tour. Coming from a non-traditional background, I had very limited knowledge in business/interaction with the MBA community. Because I was struggling to achieve a high GMAT score, he also offered a great GMAT coach with weeks of intensive lessons which helped me pass the threshold. I then started to focus on essay editing. The PMC team is very professional in that they know how to proofread your essay to make it presentable to the MBA admission officers; however, you have to prepare your own stories. They don’t feed you the fish but give you the pole to teach you how to fish.

I would totally agree with other reviews that the most valuable piece is the team really push to identify my unique story and goals, and be specific about them. Moreover, the team also helped prep for the interviews and provided very helpful feedbacks for areas to be improved on. Overall, it was a great and worthy experience!

I had a very short list of schools (Stanford, Harvard) I wanted to apply to. He went through the competitive analysis for each school and proposed an application theme that was tailored to my strengths. He has a great plan to tackle each school’s application process. He even talked me through a fellowship application and helped me secure a scholarship!! All in all, Scott’s invaluable help got me into HBS!

So I was very late in my application process when I chose to work with Scott. I chose Scott because he could see me beyond the “traditional buckets” of being an Indian male engineer with an average GMAT. We started off by applying to 2 schools in tandem while I took more time to pick the other 2. The resume building, story sorting, etc. took several iterations but it was closed only once I was satisfied. I even had some last-minute changes in school because during the essay writing I realized I was not a good fit with the school, but Scott was accommodating.

Overall, Scott helped me cherry-pick my experiences to create a coherent story for each of my application depending on the school’s requirements. He is always available even for the most mundane queries and is extremely professional in handling everything, something that I wanted from the start; I did not want to work with someone who would give me personal advice/opinions. I got admit in 2 of the schools I applied to, scholarship at 1 of them, 1 reject and 1 WL. All the schools were FT rank top 20. I would recommend Scott for anyone who wants to put their best foot forward for their MBA application.

Again, this was hugely beneficial to me, given my late start – having a process planned out and mapped week by week till the R1 deadlines helped me meet every deadline without any last-minute hassles.

4) Approachable: Despite working in a completely different time zone (10.5 hours apart), Scott and his team were always available to help, throughout the process (including waitlists).

5) Prompt and efficient: Scott’s responses were always prompt, usually in 24 hours, or at max (rarely) in 48 hours. Despite the time zone difference, there was no drop in intensity throughout the entire duration I worked with Scott.

6) Comprehensive: Scott’s approach covers all aspects of the application. I personally worked with him and his team on improving my resume, crafting a compelling storyline from my experiences and goals, drafting and refining essays + other application materials (with no cap on iterations – Scott kept pushing on details until we were both satisfied), interview prep and waitlist support. He also has other services covering the remainder of the applicant’s life cycle (pre-application, eg GMAT/ GRE prep, etc; and post-application decision, etc) – however, I did not personally use these.

Tl;dr summary – Highly recommend; knowledgeable, experienced, approachable, well-organized, prompt and efficient and comprehensive.

Scott and the team were super helpful for preparing for the Harvard Business School interview. I got helpful, targeted advice to make myself a more competitive applicant. I wish I had considered Personal MBA Coach earlier at the beginning of my MBA application journey!

While I have yet to be convinced applying to Business School should be as time-intensive of a process that it ends up being, the rules to the game are clear and Scott was an excellent coach to help get me there. Without him in your corner, I believe you are playing at a disadvantage.

Looking back on my MBA application journey, I can say with certainty that the best decision I made was to hire Personal MBA Coach. I was by no means an easy client. My testing saga ended up taking much longer than expected, and because of this, I ended up working with Scott and the team through R1 and R2. They never complained. While other firms I initially reached out to would not provide the flexibility for me to start working with them while still working through the testing, Scott had no problem with it. Detailed feedback: I am a female candidate from India with a GMAT of 750 and wanted to get into one of either Harvard, Stanford or Wharton. I researched multiple consultants to work with and spoke with all of them, and finally zeroed down on Scott from Personal MBA Coach. A key reason for me to choose to work with Scott was the fact he individually had a great success rate and that I get to directly work with him, unlike other firms where there were multiple consultants and there was the ambiguity of whether I will get a good consultant.

Scott gives great clarity on how to approach the application tailored for each school, while also offering flexibility on the overall approach. For example, I had taken the 6 school package but hadn’t finalized on which schools to apply. Given the lofty target of HSW, I wanted to cover my base by applying to a couple of other schools with better admit chances. I took a sudden decision to apply to CBS within a week of the deadline in round 1. Scott was completely understanding and helped me put together a great application in a short span of time, and I got an admit!

Scott’s style of working is a bit different from what I am used to, as after the initial analysis call, our entire communication was completely on email. Since he personally works with all of his clients, this time crunch is to be expected. While it took me some time to get used to it, we were effectively able to work with each other on all applications to my satisfaction. He is was very responsive and ensured he got back within 2 days for all communications, irrespective of whether it was weekends or holidays. He makes the entire process simple and less complicated, which resulted in me being able to apply to 6 schools with time to spare (with some other consultants I spoke with, they said the process is so complicated that I can at max target 4 schools). The ability to apply to multiple schools reduced the risk of not getting admitted in any, and hence reduced the pressure on me.

His clear insight on what each schools want helped me crack London Business School, Columbia Business School and Wharton. Though I would have loved if I had cracked Stanford and Harvard as well, I wouldn’t have been able to have the success I have had without Scott’s guidance.

I was skeptical of working with a consultant but after meeting Scott at an MBA fair, I decided to work with him after speaking with several references who also provided glowing reviews. Coming from consulting, I knew that the pools of MBA applicants were strong, and I really wanted to give myself the best shot at the programs I was interested in and not have to re-apply. My dream comes true. Scott is the best MBA consultant. I could only prepare my EMBA application 4 weeks before the R2 application deadline. First, he was the only person I spoke with that understood and got my Pre-MBA story. I have been a Round 2 Wharton applicant for its prestigious full-time MBA program for the class of 2021. With a 720 on the GMAT, I thought my chances of getting into Wharton would be highly bleak. But I didn’t want to let go off the possibility of being admitted to Wharton and hold a regret throughout my life of not trying. To my surprise, I received an interview call and without any delay, I started preparing for the Team-Based Discussion and 10 min personal interview. That’s when I came in touch with Scott. The session was extremely helpful and I requested for another session. Although all upcoming sessions were fully booked, Scott made an exception and helped me enroll in one the same night. Thanking the services of Personalmbacoach, I went for my TBD and PI. I believe I did fairly well, and through my preparation, I was in much better shape than I would have been had I not opted for the services. I am an Indian male applicant with a high GMAT score but a profile that’s not very conventional (business degree in undergrad -> real estate strategy work ex). None of the firms on my resume were ‘feeder firms’ and hence while researching for MBA consultants, I got mixed responses about my prospects (one of the biggest MBA consulting firms in the US told me to apply to schools outside of the top-15 and to Cambridge Judge and below). Scott was one of the few consultants who fit the bill in more than one aspect: he boosted my confidence starting with our introductory call (encouraging me to apply to certain aspirational schools, cautioning against a couple), and since Scott’s is a boutique firm, I was assured that I will be working with the same person throughout the application process, rather than being matched with an advisor from a large pool, which many firms with a cookie cutter approach do.

Coming to the essays: I did 3 applications with Scott. His inputs were practical and insightful. Not once did he miss the 24-48 hours response timeline, and in most cases, his replies were extremely swift (within a couple of hours sometimes!). Scott is an amazing consultant for my business school application. I used another consultant in my round 1 application and did not have a great experience. I decided to switch and worked with Scott in my round 2 application for four schools and got in three of them with scholarships. The long one: Since I was an Indian (read: one of the largest demographics) male (the most competitive gender) engineer (the hardest degree type to distinguish yourself in, especially when you are Indian), who was also a re-applicant with 8 years of experience, I knew it was going to be very hard to get into my dream school.

I contacted 10+ consultants and spoke to them at length to understand how they operate. Given my background, I knew that I would need someone who will understand my story properly and help me craft a unique story. After talking to a few of the major consulting firms, I realized that I needed a boutique consultant where I could deal with my consultant directly. Amongst all the boutique consultants I spoke with, I had the best connection with Scott. I liked his calm demeanor, the fact that he seemed to know the colleges well, and most importantly that he had worked with many Indians before and knew how to help them.

I realized his value while working with him on my first application itself. After we figured out my story, we exchanged a lot of drafts on bringing out the ‘why’. Scott adds detailed notes in each draft and he always responds within 48 hours. The final essays were really really good, even if I say so myself. They made so much sense and compared to the essays I had written myself during the previous application cycle, these were crystal clear. There was a perfect balance – the essays logically and clearly told the adcom what I wanted to do while bringing out the emotional angle to support why I wanted to do it. Moreover, the last aspect which is so important – the interview prep – is the best part about working with him. My mock interviews were super important in making sure that I do well on the day! In fact, without them, I am confident I would not have been nearly as good.

Lastly, if there is one thing I can say that would convince you of how good Scott is, it is this – When I took the 5 school package with him, I followed his instructions precisely for 3 schools and went with my gut for the other 2. It just so happens that I got into all the 3 where I listened to him and got rejected from the other 2. When I first applied to business school in 2016, I was rejected by six of the M7 schools. With Scott’s guidance in 2018, I was able to secure acceptances from Kellogg, Booth and Sloan and was offered a combined $170K in scholarship money from Kellogg and Booth.

I started the process with Scott after meeting him in late July 2018 after the MBA Tour and listening to his talk about the 10 things that one must do to prepare for applications. Starting off, I knew I wanted to work with a consultant because I wanted someone to help keep me on track while I balanced a busy job (I do consulting) and my extracurricular commitments. My initial search process started off with the free 30-min consultations with the larger brand names. I realized that I wanted more personalized attention and that the quality of the experience varied based on which consultant you worked with when signing on with a larger group. Eventually, I found Scott and we connected because of our backgrounds (Scott is a former consultant) and the fact that I would get his personalized attention throughout the process.

We worked together on 3 applications. He was extremely helpful when it came to outlining an essay response, getting my main points across, and finding ways for me to stand out among the sea of other male consultants in the MBA application pool. I felt that Scott took the time to read through my drafts, which he sent back usually within 1-2 business days. We finished the 3 applications with 2-3 weeks to go before the deadline. I then used material from those 3 schools to do 2 other schools on my own, mostly to save money. I would recommend the same to others if money is an issue, but you still want to make the most out of a consultant.

Beyond essays, the package does include interview prep. Overall, I felt like that was less useful than the essay help was. I say that because the nature of interviews can get pretty subjective. Scott does have personalized interview guides for each school (2-3 pages), but most of the information can be found online or from current students. Regardless, it was nice to practice interviews with people who had either interviewed at the school themselves or gone to the program. I also supplemented my interview practice with current students/alumni who I had known through undergrad or work.

Finally, I just want to say that Scott cares about each of his clients! He called to congratulate me when he heard I got into my dream programs and was there to comfort me when a got dinged at a few others. Looking back, there is nobody else I would have rather worked with to help me through this process!

After calling several consulting firms for their free consultation, I found that Scott was the most straightforward and provided the most honest feedback. He did not try to up-sell me his services when I indicated that I only wanted to apply to two schools. He indicated that my odds were not the greatest upfront and did not pressure me to use his services, unlike some of the big firms that referred me to their outside/lesser known partners. Scott is no only a great resource to bounce ideas off of, but also an excellent essay editor. Much of my reason for a consultant was to develop a strategy for my application to school. – Here are 3 things I really liked about Scott

– Readily Available. His turnaround times are crazy awesome. We burned through 5 or 6 drafts for three separate essays within a span of 2 weeks (15 drafts in total within 14 days). And I’m talking about serious edits with a lot of thought put in. This was during the short lull between R1 and R2. But when crunch time hits, he was still replying at an impressive rate of t+36 hours at the latest. You literally cannot find this anywhere else in the market.

-Honesty: Mentioned this before, but he gives you good reason as to why an idea would not work. So whenever he green-lighted my story or essays, I knew I got something solid.

-Industry specific insights: This is probably the greatest value add of Scott. Throughout the process, you, as an applicant, will need guidance on more than just the essays. I remember just hitting Scott up for random questions like “which picture should I use for my application?” or “do you think I should write to alums to put in good word for me?” Scott can give school specific insights, and that helped a lot.

End result: I got interview invitations from 2 of HSW, and got an offer from one of them and a merit based fellowship.

Scott is worth every penny. And he’s not even the most expensive consultant out there!

I highly recommend Scott. I did my homework and spoke to quite a few MBA consultants before settling with Scott. He was by far the most down to earth and easy to speak to. He is very knowledgeable about the admission’s process, across US Ivy league and European top business schools. His turn around time was amazing, whether it was a weekend or a weekday, he always replied almost the same day. He was very honest in his feedback. I decided to apply for MBA late in June, and to make the GMAT that I took 5 years ago count, I had to go for round 1, which left me with only 2-3 months to complete the whole thing. I talked to several friends who had MBA experience, and figured hiring a consultant would be very helpful in my case.

I did not know where to start, so I googled. After visiting a few forums, I collected a few names, including both big names with a large team of consultants, as well as smaller shops like Personal MBA Coach. After completing several free consulting sessions, it was almost no brainer to go with Scott. The big firms are super good at marketing, followed up warmly with you, but at the end, you were just talking to sales guys. You don’t even know who would end up being your consultant. I got in Columbia CBS – 2019 thanks to Scott and his team. I initially reached out to several admissions consultants (including some of the larger ones), but I found Scott at Personal MBA Coach to be the most engaged, thoughtful, and interested throughout the initial consultation process. The fact that I knew I would be working with him throughout the admissions process (rather than passed on to someone I had no connection with, which seems to be the practice of the larger firms) was also hugely important to me, particularly given the impression he made when I first spoke to him. In the end, Scott at Personal MBA Coach made my decision to work with him a relatively easy one. I went with the comprehensive school package and started preparing four applications in late-June. Throughout the process, Scott was outstanding to work with and genuinely exceeded my expectations (which were high to begin with). Scott’s turnaround times are very rapid and he always provided insightful, thought-provoking comments that enabled me to write significantly improve the quality of my essays (both in terms of content and style) every iteration. We would typically do between four and six drafts per essay and there was always a very noticeable difference between the first and last versions. The fact that Scott is also able to draw on his considerable experience with AdComs to really understand what each school is after is invaluable (particularly for a candidate from outside the US) leading to essays that really focus on what each school is looking for. While most of the time we focused on essays, Scott dedicated significant time to help me refine my resume, short-answer questions, and interview preparation. I had the pleasure of working with Scott during the application process for M7 programs. Although I had a strong profile in terms of undergrad reputation, GPA, test scores and work experience, I knew that admission to the M7 programs would be highly competitive. Before I decided to work with Scott, I did my research and narrowed my options between one of the largest consulting companies and Scott’s company. With pricing being relatively equal, I decided to go with Personal MBA coach because I wanted to work with Scott directly, as opposed to a random consultant who was working for one of the larger companies. Scott’s academic pedigree is second to none – MIT grad / Wharton MBA. He knows exactly what it takes to get into a top MBA program because he has a top MBA degree and has worked with countless students who have successfully achieved admission into the top programs. As the other reviewers mention, he has a no BS approach, which is really helpful. You get exactly what you sign up for – a super experienced consultant and advisor who helps you navigate the confusing MBA admissions process. His services were absolutely worth every penny because he helped me construct a compelling story (while keeping my own voice) and distinguish myself from other top applicants. He really pushes you to produce the best work of which you are capable. Applying to the M7 programs is a daunting process but Scott made the process more manageable and seamless. I am really happy to say that I already got accepted to an M7 program and am excited to hear back from others in round 2. I would absolutely recommend Scott to anyone looking to gain admission to a top program. He is a really nice guy who is extremely intelligent and exceptionally talented at what he does.

I took the comprehensive school package with Scott. Since I had already created a shortlist of my schools, we concentrated more on essays and application content and interviews. The overall experience with Scott was excellent! With his help, I got into two of my dream schools, INSEAD and LBS. I started preparing for applications pretty late (mid August with September timelines). This, plus a demanding job, meant I was working late in the night on applications and needed someone who could help me finish the applications in such short time with quick turnarounds. Scott exceeded these expectations and was as invested in my applications as I was! There were times when he replied to my mails with edits and quick responses within hours. I would send him content at 3AM in the night and he would respond by the time I woke up in morning and then I would take up the version control from there. He is excellent at essays. He has a no BS approach to essays and when I compare the first and last version of my essays, I can see a huge difference. He gave direct and honest feedback on my essays and helped me craft my story well. His focus was not on completing the applications, but on making them perfect. This helped me create really amazing essays, resume and overall application. If I have to compare him to other consultants (based on my initial free consultations and feedback from multiple other friends who used other consultants), I would say Scott is much better, personalized and invested in your applications and success than other consulting companies. One important thing – Scott is great for essays/applications/interview prep/recommendation letter strategy. However, if you are looking for someone who provides you with a lot of content (e.g. pdfs about schools, resume writing document etc) like other big name consulting companies, you may need to look for someone else. I personally was able to research well using all the free content from the internet. All other things – Scott and I ran the show together!

I spoke with numerous large consulting firms and ended up choosing Personal MBA Coach because he was very clearly focused on this industry (rather than doing it on the side) and didn’t sugar coat his feedback. Scott isn’t in the business of telling you how great you are in order to make you like him – he’ll be totally blunt and straightforward with you. In the end, this is something that I felt was extremely valuable for my application because it forced me to really look at what I was bringing to the table and go into the entire process more prepared than I would have otherwise. I tried applying to schools on my own first. Despite an extremely high GMAT score and good work experience I only got two interviews, and I struck out at all 6 places I applied. I didn’t even get waitlisted anywhere. For my second year of applications, I decided to get help. After talking to multiple consultants and feeling less than thrilled about their pitches (most were obviously just after my money) I talked to Scott. He was more engaged than anyone else, and most importantly he seemed to genuinely want to help me. Long story short, I ended up getting interviews at 4 of 5 places Scott helped me apply to. I was accepted at two schools (one with a decent scholarship), and waitlisted at one. I also tried applying to one additional school on my own and did not even get an interview. This means that out of 12 schools, I was only admitted to those Scott helped me apply to, and Scott was involved in getting 4 of 6 interviews. Note that since he only helped me apply to 5 places I got interviews 80% of the time with him and 28% of the time on my own. My last comment is about what you should and should not expect from Scott. He is not a magic genie who will instantly grant acceptance to your top school. He will not write anything for you. He will not tell you what you want to do in the future. What Scott will do is relentlessly critique your essays. He will push you HARD to fully distill what you are trying to say, and he will pull no punches while doing it. If you are six drafts into your essay and it just isn’t there, he will tell you that you need to start over. At times it will suck, but as long as you continue to push yourself Scott will help unearth the best version of yourself in your final applications. I am extremely glad that I worked with Scott, and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I would highly recommend Scott at Personal MBA Coach. Apart from his vast knowledge of MBA programs he has a wealth of knowledge about various industries which really helps to craft compelling stories.
