I would like to transition to IB for 3-5 years to gain capital markets and deal flow experience. I have the ultimate goal of being a CFO. I structured the beginning of my career around learning how to analyze and read financial statements and preform market research. I plan to use the MBA to become a better leader and transition to IB.

Hi Mr. Equity to IB, this is Julie-Anne Heafey from mbaMission. I actually started my career on the sell side of equity research so I “get” the world where you are coming from, and have an idea of what you bring to the table. You definitely have some skills that would be of interest in IB, though the smoothness of that transition might depend on what area you’ve been covering and what type of IB you’re recruiting into…but my guess is that you could answer those questions if I talked to you. I think your odds are better than average at Kellogg – you have a good GPA, on-target GMAT, and they appreciate/value finance folks as many still (mistakenly) think of them …

I think your odds are better than average at Kellogg – you have a good GPA, on-target GMAT, and they appreciate/value finance folks as many still (mistakenly) think of them as a marketing-centric school. Your big to-do’s to me are that you’ll need to show that you’re a strong fit for the Kellogg culture, and that they are your top choice among the schools you’re targeting–all MBA programs care about yield, but in particular, Kellogg may not expect that they are as highly ranked on your list as this form indicates, so help them understand that and I think your odds are promising! Good luck!
Hello Mr. Equity to IB, it’s Lisa Cummings of Stratus Admissions. My first job post MBA was as an equity research analyst so I have a soft spot for folks in that demanding role. Your solid stats should put you in the running at your target schools. Kudos to you for being able to achieve a 3.6 while you were a D 1 athlete. No small feat. Your early promotion is also a plus. I’d like to learn more details about that and other professional successes that you have had. Additionally, what do you do outside of work? Tell me more about your volunteer work for First Tee – it is volunteering at a golf outing or is it a …

Tell me more about your volunteer work for First Tee – it is volunteering at a golf outing or is it a bigger commitment? Are you involved in anything else? Your interest in pivoting to IB is realistic, but you will need to connect the dots and show your schools that you have a solid skillset now but need some additional skills to make the transition. You’ll need to convince Kellogg (and your other target schools ) that their program provides the classes and activities to fill in the gaps so you can achieve your goals. Best of luck!
