Hi, it’s Nisha from mbaMission. First of all, thank you for your service! It sounds like you’ve had some excellent leadership milestones in your military career so far, which can potentially translate very well into a successful business career.
That said, I’d do some more reflection on what you’d like that career to look like. Executive/strategic leadership can be the focus of a variety of roles/industries. A couple of options that come to mind for a post-MBA role for you: 1. Management/strategy consulting 2. A general management rotational program. I recommend exploring both of these paths to see if either sound like they appeal to you based on your skills and interests. On mbaMission’s website, you’ll find a career guide on …

There are several other MBA programs I recommend because they offer a strong general management education and are very receptive to military applicants: Ross, Fuqua, Darden, Tuck, and Cornell. To see which ones might be a fit for you based on the cultural and academic experience you’re seeking, your goals, and your target post-MBA companies and geographies, I suggest that you attend as many virtual events as possible and speak to students/alumni (perhaps fellow veterans).
I hope that this provides some good thought-starters. If you’d like to discuss your candidacy in more detail, please reach out to schedule a free consultation. Best of luck!
Hi, it’s Jennifer Jackson from Stratus Admissions. You have some incredibly impressive experience, with strong leadership skills coming through in complex global environments. Your GMAT is a bit lower than Kellogg’s average but not low enough to keep you out, as is your GPA, but with an econ major at the Naval Academy I don’t see this as a red flag either. I would recommend being more specific about your goals, especially the ST goals. To get robust exposure to strategy and management, consulting would fit the bill. If that appeals to you, I would suggest listing at least one firm you’re interested in besides MBB (i.e. Deloitte) to show you’re flexible, since SO many applicants list MBB as their desired goal. …

If you prefer to work in-house, I would suggest picking an industry where you can explain your interest, perhaps with a prior experience or backstory. Schools want to see the WHY and the HOW behind your goals and decisions. A leadership rotational program at a firm would be a good idea as well. Be sure to explain the skills you’ll gain in that ST role and how they will help prepare you for your LT goals, and of course why an MBA is necessary to reach your goals.
