Change industry into tech/consulting/consumer products. Feedback from job interviews is that I lack industry experience or overqualified for junior positions to get into the industry. An MBA will help me develop a wide network, equip me with skills to enhance mine, expose me to a new career/industry.

Hi Ms. 10 Years of Experience, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. Sorry to hear about the impact Covid has had on your job. So with your years of experience, the first question I often ask is ‘Why MBA and Why Now’? And I think you answered this through your experience in interviewing for jobs and this insight will be very beneficial to your applications. So you probably know that the middle 80% of years of experience for a full time program is 3-8, so your 10 puts you outside this. There are definitely fewer applicants with your years of experience and so fewer slots. While you obviously had some strong work experiences, and the international experience is strong, I am concerned about your GPA, not knowing where you are from a testing perspective. You’ve got some pretty competitive schools on your list – and in order to overcome your lower than average GPA, you will need a strong test score. You have mentioned applying in R3 in the profile, and I would strongly encourage you to consider R2 as an international student. Even before Covid schools wanted international applicants to apply in R2 to ensure time to process visas and in Covid that is even more difficult. All of the Top 25 programs have STEM options associated with the MBA – either as the full program or a major/concentration/track/etc. For placement into tech, I would consider looking at Washington Foster or Carnegie Mellon Tepper – which have fantastic ties to the tech industry and are a bit less competitive from a stats perspective. Good luck!
