About the Program

The University of Illinois’ Gies College of Business launched its online MBA in 2016. The program – known as the iMBA – was designed specifically with the online learner in mind. It is engaging, flexible, and affordable – and it’s delivered in a face-to-face-style digital classroom with leadership, communication, and critical thinking at the core of the program. The iMBA has no travel requirements, allows for engagement with senior professionals, and helps learners develop career-advancing leadership skills.

The Gies iMBA has graduated more than 3,000 learners from over 68 countries, bringing a wealth of global perspectives into the virtual classroom. Learners in the program average 11 years of work experience and many hold high-level positions in their companies. Students will get the opportunity to learn alongside CEOs, lawyers, doctors, small business owners, and aspiring professionals from all walks of life.

Courses are eight weeks long, and learners must complete 72 credit hours to earn their degree. While the program is designed to be completed in 24-36 months, learners have the flexibility to take up to five years to complete the degree requirements. No GMAT or GRE is required.

A typical week within an eight-week course includes attending a live class with a professor having live discussions and problem solving, completing a team or individual project, and finishing an on-demand module. Learners can customize their degree by choosing from five specializations in Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship & Strategic Innovation, Global Challenges in Business, Business Analytics, and Mergers and Acquisitions.
