The JWMI Master of Business Administration online MBA program is an 18 to 36 month program, that enrolls students four times a year. Though the school is based right in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., administrators say everything for students in the MBA program is done online, including the admissions process interview that all students go through.
Each student is also assigned to an advisor who connects them with appropriate career-related resources throughout their program with access to writing and communication coaches, quantitative tutors, bi-monthly leadership webinars, local networking events, online networking group, and periodical subscriptions.
To further connect students with the industry, the online MBA program also features exclusive lectures by over three dozen current and former executives from some of the world’s most recognizable brands, including Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway, Omar Ishrak of Medtronic, Rosalind Brewer of Starbucks, and Toby Cosgrove of Cleveland Clinic.
Concentrations
“We have a very…
“We have a very student-centered model that is not only based on student outcomes but also returns on the job,” the school claims. And the school has the numbers to prove it. In a 2024 – 2025 alumni survey of their graduates, the school found that 38% of graduates received a promotion while attending the program and 98% of alumni said they would recommend the program to others.
IMMEDIATE CAREER AND JOB TRAINING Other ways in which the program, which was launched in 2010, differentiates itself, is by operating on the “learn today, apply tomorrow” motto. “Since 98% of our students are employed full time, our content is designed for immediate impact on the job,” Mary Carr, Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Jack Welch Management Institute, wrote in response to the Poets&Quants survey. “We are a student-centric school and utilize feedback to assess our content, faculty, and services.”
As part of the program, courses at JWMI are designed to help students create an immediate impact on their current companies. Students are guided through projects of their choice depending on their concentrations, most of which serve their employing companies in some way and can be used to impress.
Marketing students are expected to create marketing plans, Operations Management students complete a process map for their company’s operations, and apply Six Sigma techniques to optimize, and People Management students prepare a talent scorecard for their organization, identifying personnel gaps against current business needs. Strategy students assess their company’s strategy using the Jack Welch strategic framework, and New Business Ventures students either create a business plan for a startup or an intrapreneurial idea within their own company.
As a capstone project, students act as the CEO of their company and use data analytics to dissect a current business problem before creating a strategy to address it in the upcoming year. In conclusion, they deliver a Board-level presentation with their findings.
NETWORKING A PART OF THE PROGRAM JWMI also offers its students opportunities to network at professional events in international markets. The school has hosted events with LinkedIn in Toronto where participants had the opportunity to receive career advice from JWMI executives and LinkedIn profile reviews, and pro-tips from the LinkedIn team. Other networking events were also held in London, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.
At JWMI, most faculty members teaching in the online MBA program also hold a Ph.D., or terminal degree, and average 20 years of professional business experience from some of the world’s most recognizable brands, including Allstate, AT&T, Deloitte, Exxon Mobil, Ford, Huffington Post, Johnson & Johnson, Morgan Stanley, National Football League Properties, United Healthcare and Walmart. The school also does not practice tenure, instead assessing applicants to teaching positions based on their international experience and willingness to coach, rather than teach. Educators are also assessed based on student survey data, and those at the top are rewarded, those in the middle are coached, and those at the bottom are gently weeded out to do what’s best for the students.
The course has a pretty average student-to-faculty ratio of 19:1 in each course, but what may be helpful is that the MBA program is completely online, including the admissions process that every applicant goes through.
