The Nanyang Business School MBA: What You Need To Know

One of the most exciting cities in all of Asia is Singapore and Nanyang Business School was the very first MBA school in the country. So if you’re looking for a school that would allow you to do a deep dive on Asia in an incredibly welcoming city, Nanyang is the place to be. It’s full-time MBA program, which boasts a focus on Asia, can be completed in just 12 months.

For incoming students in 2013, a newly revamped MBA curriculum will put more emphasis on both leadership and applying the lessons learned in class to the real world. Students go through nine core courses and four electives during the year but also have time for either an overseas or local business study mission as well as an industry project.

With nearly nine out of ten students from outside Singapore, the school attracts a wildly diverse group of MBA candidates, especially from all across Asia. Some 16% of the Class of 2012 were from Europe and from Southeast Asia; 18% from India, 13% from China, 12% from Northeast Asia, and 6% from the Americas. An unusually high percentage were women, 43%, compared with the more typical one-third in U.S. business schools.

The vast majority of Nanyang’s MBAs tend to land jobs in Asia (some 81% of the Class of 2011), with 14% going off to Europe and 5% to North America. The school says that 48% of the class used the MBA degree to transition to a new industry, while 46% changed functions. Even more impressive is the fact that more than a third of the graduates (38%) were double-switchers, using the MBA to change both industries and job function at the same time.
