The Isenberg School of Management MBA: What You Need To Know
The Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst offers graduate programs in the following departments and concentrations: accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, general management, health care administration, hotel administration, human resources management, leadership, manufacturing and technology management, marketing, not-for-profit management, production/operations management, organizational behavior, public administration, public policy, sports business, supply chain management/logistics, and technology.
The Isenberg School of Management offers MBA students the option of taking courses in person, online, or both. The two-year full-time program in Amherst mixes general business courses and focused electives program. Full-time MBA students can also pursue a dual degree, combining their MBA with an M.S. in Sports Management, Public Policy, and Administration, or Engineering. All those selected to become full-time MBA students at Isenberg will be awarded a two-year Isenberg MBA Fellowship that fully funds the degree. The Fellowship includes full-tuition, an annual stipend, and health care. In return, MBA Fellows get valuable hands-on experience and marketable skills while working on real business problems and strategic initiatives for the school.
Online courses grant students the flexibility to pursue their MBA without relocating or taking time off from their careers. Students looking for a balance between flexibility and face time can enroll in Isenberg’s part-time program, which mixes online courses with in-person classes administered at satellite campuses in Boston, Shrewsbury, and Springfield, Massachusetts. Students enrolled in the online and part-time programs can work at their own pace provided they complete their MBA in four years.
In addition to academics, Isenberg students can network with fellow MBA candidates during Thursday Nights Out, a weekly dinner and happy hour hosted by the school’s chapter of the Graduate Business Association. Other networking opportunities include the National Association of Women MBAs, and Net Impact, a sustainable business group.
Research-driven students at Isenberg can delve into the dynamics of the sports industry at the Center for Spectator Sports Research, study global market behavior at the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets, or discover how complex networks of logistics, finance, and telecommunication interact through the Virtual Center for Supernetworks. Isenberg students can also gain real-world experience in small business development via the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network, a federal-state partnership providing one-on-one consulting to individuals and businesses.
Graduates of the Isenberg School of Management are part of an alumni network that includes Jeff Taylor, founder of the job-search website Monster.com; and John F. Smith Jr., former CEO of both Delta Air Lines and General Motors.
