Launch your career in the asset management industry by spending a year at Yale learning from leading finance scholars and from practicing investors at some of the world’s most successful institutions. This innovative STEM-eligible course of study provides early-career students with a deep understanding of the application of data science and quantitative techniques to investment decisions, while emphasizing ethics, fiduciary responsibility, and investment performance.
The Yale SOM Master’s Degree in Asset Management program seeks early-career candidates with a strong interest in investment analysis and valuation, asset allocation, portfolio construction, performance measurement, and fiduciary ethics. Graduates will receive a STEM-eligible Master of Management Studies degree and will be prepared to take full-time roles in a variety of financial management positions, from hedge funds to investment analysis to philanthropic portfolio management.
The program is a full-time, nine-month course of study leading to a Master of Management Studies degree. You will receive training in all aspects of asset management, including investment selection, asset allocation, portfolio management, and risk management, with a focus on forward-looking quantitative methods and new technologies in this fast-developing field. A highlight of the program is the Colloquium in Asset Management, which brings leading executives, investors, and practitioners to campus for candid discussions about the industry.
You will also be required to gain practical experience by completing a minimum of 40 hours of one or more of the following activities: completing an internship or project related to asset management for an external organization, assisting an SOM finance professor with research related to the study of asset management, or undertaking an alternative activity pre-approved by the faculty director. Students on Yale’s visa sponsorship must abide by the employment regulations of their visa type, including any limitations on hours per week. At this time, international students are eligible for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) if completing an internship or project at external organizations.
