But how does managerial cognition factor into whether a firm scores a win or takes a hit? Professor J.P. Eggers takes the losses from organizational decision-making and turns them into strategy lessons at NYU’s Stern Business School. His research addresses the intersection of three topics: strategic decision-making, technological uncertainty, and the creation of new products. Recent work examines firms that backed the wrong technology during the emergence of the flat panel display industry. Prior to his academic career, Professor Eggers was a strategy consultant with two firms, Kurt Salmon Associates and Viant, Inc., both of which specialize in product development strategy and new technology projects for firms. Professor Eggers was named Stern’s 2010 Professor of the Year for the school’s MBA program. Students Say: Professor Eggers has a talent for engaging his students. His class inspired me to think about business problems in a new way, focusing on the process for coming up with a clever solution rather than just arriving at an answer. While the course was challenging, I was able to readily apply what I learned in class for new market entry and product development at my job. It was one of the most rewarding and useful courses I took as part of my MBA at NYU Stern. — Marina Hod, NYU Stern MBA Class of 2011 J.P.
