What makes the case method so attractive as a means to learn and become a better manager? It is the ability to practice problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills in a diverse setting, with fellow aspiring managers, every single day. Practice makes perfect.

Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of the school’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? In addition to usage of the case method and IESE’s position as a leading European business school, the incredibly warm and welcoming culture really set the MBA here apart for me. The admissions team were so friendly and helpful, I genuinely felt they wanted me to submit an application, and equally felt reassured I’d be in the right environment as I look to develop as an individual.

What club or activity excites you most at this school? The Business Spanish programme!

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: It was working as the youngest member of a team with experienced investors and executives from across power & renewables. We set up and oversaw the development of an investment platform, acquiring and building UK power assets. The opportunities to learn have been unparalleled, which I owe to my colleagues.

What led you to pursue an MBA at this point in your career? Having spent a few years across M&A and PE, it feels like the right time to back up my technical skills with some stronger people-management skills. Over time I’ve realised that developing strong relationships across an organization are likely going to be the key to succeeding further. This feels like the right time to step away and concentrate on developing those “softer” skills required for the transition to middle management.

What other MBA programs did you apply to? INSEAD

What was the most challenging question you were asked during the admissions process? I think questions looking to discern fit are the most challenging, as “fit” isn’t necessarily something that is easy to work on!

How did you determine your fit at various schools? I found it most useful to get stuck into networking. Some business schools hire alumni into the admissions team (such as IESE), which makes it much easier to get a feel for the culture already. The IESE team were particularly good at facilitating opportunities to network, and all the alumni I’ve come across are very happy to have a chat.

What was your defining moment and how did it prepare you for business school? Attending CentreCourt and being able to meet and assess the differences between several schools at once.

What is your favorite company and what could business students learn from them? Tesla – be daring, imaginative and innovative.
