Here it is. The moment has finally arrived.

Three years ago, the Class of 2023 was reflecting on what they wanted to do and who they wanted to be. Wading deep in data, they compared schools on every imaginable measurable. They made calls, shared coffees, and visited campuses. When the class received their acceptances, they paused for just a moment – fully aware the real work remained ahead.

What a journey business school has been! They gritted their way through core finance and economics – and stood their ground during cold calls. Early on, they honed their pitches and built their networks under the watch of second-years. A year later, the Class of 2023 paid it forward as tutors, ambassadors, and mentors. Along the way, they launched ventures, ran events, and racked up case trophies – upholding the traditions and raising the standards for the classes to come.

ANSWERING ALL YOUR QUESTIONS

For all that, these MBAs will celebrate together in the coming months. Call it a moment to look back and take stock on how much they’ve grown; a place to recognize the loved ones who served as their unwavering champions; the final time that these special groups will all be together. Beyond the pomp-and-circumstance, graduation is a ritual that connects students – past, present, and future – to a binding set of values and memories.

That kicks off at the Ross School on April 28th and concludes July 7th at the London Business School. In between, you’ll find various constituencies asking questions beyond the usual date, time, and location basics. For most, tickets, directions and parking are primary concerns. That doesn’t count lodging, dining, and even entertainment options. What happens in the case of inclement weather? Can you bring a pursue or is a clear bag policy in effect? Any accommodations for children and the disabled? Let’s not forget the graduates themselves. Among them, there are always questions about event schedules – be it rehearsals and receptions – or even where or when to pick up and return the regalia.

While some schools are keeping their distinguished guests under wraps, others are proudly trotting out their famous alumni to the stage. Take Jason Libert, the President and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group. Less than a decade after earning his MBA at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler School, he is returning to Chapel Hill to deliver the keynote address. Dan Schulman is making a homecoming of his own at New York University’s Stern School. An ’86 Stern grad and CEO of PayPal, Schulman is performing the speaking honors at the May 19th MBA Convocation. Talk about timing: With Air drawing $33 million in last week’s box office, Indiana Kelley lured Shannon Watkins, Chief Marketing Officer of Nike’s Jordan brand, back to Bloomington in May.

Not every speaker made a school’s alumni roll. The Wharton School tapped Thasunda Brown Duckett – a Baylor MBA and President and CEO of TIAA – to address the Class of 2023. INSEAD signed up Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of the L’Oréal Group, while the University of Texas’ McCombs School boasts John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of Paul Mitchell and Patron. While Harvard Business School has yet to announce their Class Day speaker, they would be hard-pressed to top the dignitary gracing the stage at Harvard University’s 372nd commencement…
