Undergraduate School and Degree: Purdue University – Bachelor’s degree with a dual major in Business Management and Supply Chain Where are you currently working? EY as a Business Consultant in Supply Chain Planning What achievement are you most proud of in your professional career? One of my most memorable achievements occurred when I served as the lead chair for the young professionals’ group at my previous company. I led a team of four people, partnering with Kaboom to build a playground in a low-income neighborhood. From this event, I overcame my fear of public speaking, as I spoke at multiple leadership meetings and delivered an impromptu speech in front of all 200 volunteers. It was a significant personal accomplishment for me, coupled with the fulfilling experience of giving back to a community near our work campus. Why did you choose this school’s online MBA program? UNL is one of the top-ranked online MBA programs with a specialization in Supply Chain. Their program is also less expensive than others, which is why their MBA program is ranked as Number 1 best value in the US. What was your favorite part of being in an online MBA program? My favorite part was the flexibility to continue working full time while advancing my education. I enjoyed the opportunity to learn in the classroom again and not have to pause my career. What was the most surprising thing about an online learning environment? I was surprised that I met so many students with a diverse background in multiple different parts of the world. My various groups had people from California, Oregon, Colorado, Kansas, North Carolina, and many more. During my different classes, I heard experiences from people in pharmaceuticals, non-profit, engineering, the military and so much more. How did your online experience compare with your in-the-classroom experience as an undergraduate student? I missed the social aspects of an in-classroom experience and being able to see other students outside of class. That said, I have met some great people in the MBA program and have been able to stay in touch virtually since our interactions were all virtual to begin with. Additionally, having work experience helped me provide real life examples in discussions. It was beneficial to apply the concepts from class and to my company or role. What is your best piece of advice to an applicant for thriving in an online MBA program? I would advise to keep a steady pace of studying and work ahead when able. Taking advantage of the flexibility of the online program and working ahead when possible is a great way to adjust during busy times in work or life. How has your online education helped you in your current job? There have been many learnings during my time at UNL but the biggest impact were the two courses I took that discussed positive psychology and the happiness advantage. The classes discussed how to change our mindset to improve our mood which in turn improves productivity. I have already established some of these habits for myself and I plan to install these routines with my team as well. Did you earn a promotion while in the program or immediately after graduation? I transitioned from supply chain industry to supply chain consulting while in the program, which is a higher position. I have not earned a promotion yet but I am applying for a raise right after graduation. Why did you pursue an online MBA program instead of a full-time residential program? I wanted the opportunity to continue advancing my career while earning my MBA. Number of Hours Per Week Spent on an Online MBA: I spent about 8 hours per week depending on the class. What is your ultimate long-term professional goal? My long-term goal is to become a strategic leader in the supply chain field with the opportunity to help others develop in their career.
