This year marks a milestone for us: 15 years of the TBD as part of Wharton’s MBA admissions process. When we originally sat down with Wharton faculty to rethink our interview format, research showed that traditional one-on-one behavioral interviews weren’t quite enough to predict true talent. A skills-based, observable group interview felt like a natural choice. What we landed on was something pretty different: six applicants, all given the same prompt ahead of time, coming together for a timed discussion with a shared goal. It gave us the opportunity to see how candidates communicate, engage with others, and work toward an outcome in real time. That gives us insight into qualities that can be difficult to see elsewhere in the application. As I reflect on what we’ve learned, I’m reminded of just how valuable the TBD has become in helping us identify talent and in building each incoming class.” To read more, click here.
