He is among Ebony Magazine’s Power 150 list of African-American leaders and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association. He earned his master’s degree in television and radio from Syracuse University and a J.D. from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He is also the author of Take Care of Your Music Business.

Graded: Students will earn a Certificate of Achievement for completing the course.

Description: The music business is “10 percent music and 90 percent business.” That’s the lesson that Professor Kellogg has learned in his thirty year music career. And he applies this experience in this new course. Here, students will learn the basics of copyrights and recording deals, including 360 degree contracts that allow companies to tap into artist revenue streams beyond recordings. Kellogg will also cover the changes arising from the digital age, including online advertising and subscription models. In short, students will understand how and where the “money flows,” along with new mediums that artists are using to build their audience (and their earnings).
