It was almost by accident that I stumbled upon the existence of deferred MBA programs. It was not an accident that I chose Angela to help me on my MBA application journey.

I looked into all the MBA programs that offered deferred MBAs and realized it was something that I wanted to pursue. I knew that I had a very untraditional background and on top of that, I was never the best at writing – especially when it came to writing about myself. I started the process shortly before I began my final year of undergrad and spent the first few weeks doing basic research. It was here that I first came across various admissions consultants through some of their free online resources, Career Protocol included.

As one does, I scheduled as many of those free 30 minute consultations with as many consultants as possible to get different insights and thoughts on my background and my chances at a top program. Out of all of these initial consultations, the last one I had scheduled was with Career Protocol. It was here that I met Angela for the first time and I quickly knew that I wanted to work with her throughout this process. My first interaction with Angela was somewhat parasocial as I binged MBA content on YouTube in an attempt to fully understand what I was getting myself into. Out of all the content uploaded by various firms, Angela and Career Protocol stood out as being genuine, unique, and somehow able to make the process of applying to schools seem fun and exciting. The rainbows and unicorns definitely helped!

From her massive library of free content, I was hooked. I loved Angela’s approach to the application process so much that I applied to be an anonymous “Bob” on her Bob Project series on YouTube. Through this, I was able to meet Angela and interact one-on-one, going over my goals and plan to succeed in my MBA application process. Our conversation filled me with confidence not only in Angela’s vast library of knowledge but in myself and what I was capable of. Within a few weeks, I joined the Catalyst program through Career Protocol and started working with Angela and the team more directly.

One of my most significant experiences with Angela was when I was creating my list of schools to apply to. On review, she expressed that I had a higher chance at the schools I was considering and even encouraged me to apply to more ambitious programs. She told me that my story and what I wanted out of my MBA would go far and that I had what it took to go beyond what I had initially imagined for myself. This helped start a significant mental shift for me, acknowledging that I had already come such a long way and that being myself was good enough to get into a top program.

This way of thinking is what changed the course of my MBA journey. Despite starting with the hope of getting into a T20, I was accepted into an M7 after making a strong application that specifically reflected me. I was weighing between Career Protocol (“CP”) and another big-name MBA consulting firm. I ended up going with the other MBA consulting firm because I had a misconception that CP’s brand of kindness would somehow result in less “tough” and honest feedback.

I was so disappointed with the other MBA consulting firm as after paying five figures, four months passed, and I had received only one 40-minute call in spite of my many email requests to connect for more. Luckily, CP’s MBA Catalyst program reversed and saved my very soured MBA process.

CP’s resume process is worth the entire price point of the MBA catalyst program (and you get much more than just that!). CP had a methodical coaching style which gave you the tools to make each bullet ubiquitously relatable to a range of audiences, while preserving specificity. Imagine if you could find a consultant that gives you 1-1 advice while also creating a way less toxic reddit for you to have all your last minute “silly” questions answered, that is CP.

CP on a whole never gate keeps knowledge to maintain a false competitive edge within an increasingly oversaturated MBA consultant market. This is because CP’s real value-add is an impenetrable understanding on how to unlock anyone’s story and make it marketable through accentuating your uniqueness in a style that resonates with all.

CP prioritizes marketing YOU because they care, rather than many other consulting firms which market themselves to ultimately increase their profit. Therefore, given MBA consulting is an extremely amorphous profession, I implore everyone to put a premium on the character and quality of the consultants they are running diligence on, over “credentials / pedigree”. Worth noting CP has both.

In the end, it is the intrinsic motivation of the consultant to help others, that will ensure that you as the client, receive robust help that is not riddled with short cuts as there is ultimately no consequence for a consulting firm to disappear or give you lazy “advice” once you ultimately wire them your lump sum.
Angela and her team are beyond qualified in both pedigree and character. Their product is the result of years of compounding observations of what applicants need. Therefore, being a part of CP is like having a question answered every single day, that you did not even realize you had.

However, CP never rests on their laurels, they are always constantly innovating to stay above the curve and through all of their focused innovative growth centered around ultimately better serving the client, they maintain an unshakeable value of radical kindness that permeates through out every single program of theirs and every interaction.

I made a major misjudgment when I realized that Career Protocol’s “kindness” does not equate in false coddling, but means they invest more into seeing the nuanced difficult feedback you need to hear AND figuring out a clear yet respectful way to communicate it to you.

As someone with a “non-traditional” background (ie. films and education), navigating the MBA application process seemed daunting. TL;DR Angela is an absolute legend. Working with her felt like someone was looking into my soul with a magnifying glass and teasing out elements of my story that I hadn’t fully appreciated myself.

In my opinion, the top 3 characteristics that an applicant should look for in a consultant are: (1) someone who gives very candid feedback, (2) someone who has the ability to not only extract your unique story, but also bring out your unique voice in the storytelling, and (3) a trusted, end-to-end, holistic advisor that is with you every step of the way. Angela is THE unparalleled standard on all of these aspects and more — (1) if I wrote a bad essay draft, I heard as such (in a constructive manner, of course), (2) if Angela hadn’t course-corrected my initial story idea and communication style, I don’t think I would’ve achieved the results I did, and (3) Angela not only helped ideate and construct my core story, but also advised on holistic application packaging (including the short answer sections within each application, which should not be overlooked), as well as interview and waitlist guidance. Throughout the process, she was my biggest cheerleader and made a typically stressful period fun — I felt at ease at all times knowing Angela was in my corner.

The results speak for themselves. For context, I’m a South Asian male in finance who went to an Ivy League institution for undergrad and had a non-traditional path after undergrad. My undergrad academic performance was not the most ideal (3.3 GPA with an F on my transcript). Despite these circumstances, I got into Wharton ($105K scholarship) and Booth and have made it all the way to the summer waitlist at HBS. To be clear, it is quite literally unheard of for someone from my demographic and background to get $105K from an institution like Wharton. If Angela had not been in my corner, then absolutely none of these results would have been possible.

Don’t think further — hire Angela and make your life that much easier and fun.

One of the amazing things about Angela and the Career Protocol team is that they helped me whittle the many vast ideas in my brain down to concise essays that got results. Results including acceptances from 7 out of the 8 programs I applied to, with 5 of them offering me scholarships totaling $500,000. I went from worrying about not getting in anywhere to getting in virtually everywhere I applied. Acceptances included: Wharton, Booth, Kellogg, Columbia, Ross, Johnson, Fuqua.

• CP Community – I really like this. It makes it feel not so transactional. Enjoyed meeting other instructors, other clients, and being a part of something greater. I love that we are all lifting each other up.

• I didn’t know what I was getting into but took a leap of faith. I am so glad I did.

• Most admissions consultants’ sites have a stuffy formal feeling. CP’s site may throw you off since it is the complete opposite with color, animations, unicorns, etc. I think we could all use more humor, silliness, and joy in life. Why take ourselves so seriously? They are that good that they can really be themselves. And I think this is a positive thing. My gut was right 
• I’ll never forget when I committed – Angela emailed me while I was out for a run. I checked my email, and she said a spot opened up with her. I stood there for a second and thought, this is one of those life moments and a sign. Let’s do it!!
• It is expensive, but you really do get the value from it. I know I would not have been able to complete as many applications, the quality of applications, etc. that I did. The scholarship money I was offered was unreal. While it cannot be expected, that alone covers the cost of the services.
• The messaging is loud and clear and effective. Focusing on human connection, relationships, what brings you joy, telling great stories, being vulnerable, making a friend.
• They really listened to me. Built trust.

You’ve probably already figured the result: we both made it into our top choice MBA at HBS!

I had the fortunate opportunity to work with Angela during my MBA Round 2 for full-time Fall ’23. At the beginning, I had a lot of doubts about my profile and whether I could get into a top 15 school. I was worried about my undergraduate GPA (3.17/4), my relatively lower than average GMAT score (680), and my atypical background (non-diverse male in real estate construction finance). But choosing to work with Angela was, no doubt, the best decision I made. From the get-go, I was blown away by how obvious it was to her on how to counteract my weak stats by leveraging my ‘great, collaborative, and fun’ (her words) personality and my unique career experiences as my strengths within my application. She always had complete faith that these strengths are exactly what will help me successfully cross the finish line. Not only that, she gave me the tools to juggle and manage around 8 different applications, and submit each application with full confidence that it showed my best abilities and life stories.

Angela is a MASTER at helping people embrace their own stories and express them effectively. Surprisingly, I ended up using many life stories in my applications that I initially thought were irrelevant, but they turned out to be pivotal moments that perfectly showcased who I am and what I’m all about.

It was confusing at times and even overwhelming to go against some information that I would find in online forums, Reddit, and speaking with other applicants, but putting full trust in her quirky and exciting process is what led to my success.

When I initially applied to 5 schools and found out that I was waitlisted at 4 of my top choices. Angela sensed the urgency and immediately helped me prioritize a game plan to stand out and get off the waitlist. Right away, she told me the hard truth of being on the waitlist and also told me something that I didn’t want to hear, which was to take the GRE instead of the GMAT. Looking back, this was the best advice and just one example of how strategic she is in her approach. She also pushed me to get creative with a video response that a school requested while I was on the waitlist, rather than taking the boring path. This is my second year applying for MBAs. In 2021 I applied to MIT, Wharton, Harvard and Stanford with the help of another admissions consultant. I was interviewed by HBS and Wharton and got admitted to none. I felt that my applications were superficial and did not reflect my true self, and contained what I thought schools wanted to see.

Last year (2022) I had Angela’s help to reflect and understand my personal stories and values during the application process, this completely changed the application experience. I really felt they know what they do and truly offers authentic, high quality, well constructed contents to assist MBA applicants as well as job applicants to prep their important interview!

I had the privilege of working with Angela Guido for the MBA R1 application process. For me, this was the second go around after working with a different consultant and candidly it was a night-and-day difference in terms of (1) depth, (2) story articulation, and (3) personal support.
Angela challenged me to look within myself in ways that I hadn’t done before. As someone who was on the fence about business school, this was focused on really thinking critically about why I wanted to go to business school and what my personal narrative was. I would wholeheartedly recommend Angela to anyone considering an MBA – she is truly an invaluable life coach.

Let me start with the end. I got into HBS, my top school. I would totally recommend her.

A bit about myself, I am currently working in VC, and before I was a management consultant at MBB. I had already applied to Harvard twice, once for college and once for the 2+2, and got dinged twice.

This time I decided to go for the best consultant I could find online based on reviews and personal experiences of friends.

Angela has a truly unique approach for several reasons. She takes a holistic approach to getting to know you, or better “getting you to know yourself”. Once you have laid out all the aspects of your personality, your background, your dreams, and your achievements, she helps you write your story using advanced story-telling techniques.

Angela does not write your essays. This is another major difference from what you might expect from your consultant. I don’t think she wrote a single line. She helps you put your thoughts together, connecting the dots and turning them into a story, giving comments, feedback, and nudging ideas. In the end, the story is 100% yours – and you can take the merit of everything.

Looking back at the application process, I can confidently say that I enjoyed working with Angela. I did not only get into HBS, but I also got to know myself better.

I spoke to Angela when I was waitlisted at Stanford for round 3. She went through my application and gave me honest feedback that helped me ace my application next round.

For my Wharton TBD, Angela helped me find my best self in a team setting. Angela and her team’s review helped me put my best self forward.

Angela is the best, kind-hearted person who is talented enough to take your application to the next level. If you are trying for the top 10, she will make you eligible for M7 and if you are trying for M7, you have a great chance for HSW. For me, she took my application from the top ten to the HSW level. I’m very grateful to her.

I worked with Angela Guido at Career Protocol and it was without a doubt the best decision I could make for this very demanding process of application.

My process of application had to get off to a quick start because I started the application process late in the game and I did not have the option to postpone my MBA to the 2023-2025 program. Because of the short amount of time, I had to apply, prepare the applications, and prepare the standardized tests; I was looking for an advisor that would give me the work cut up and ready to eat. This was the idea until I had a one-on-one call with Angela from Career Protocol and I reviewed the internet page. I realized that working with Angela was going to be a hands-on experience and that she was only going to be my guide. Of course, it turned out to be a lot more work but it was completely worth it, I developed skills I wouldn’t have any other way.

The Career Protocol approach to the application process is through a very explicit online platform with videos and seminars that teach you how to be a good storyteller, as well as one on one videoconferences with your advisor where they guide you to find the best way to tell your unique story. The online platform has different modules (each module contains different activities, videos, and articles) that go from resources on universities, clubs, interview preparation, essay preparation, etc. but without the doubt, the most valuable resources are on storytelling.

Storytelling is an ability that has helped me in everyday activities, from getting to know people and telling them my life story to presenting projects to investors in the Real Estate Development company where I currently work. I say this from current experience, there is a method, and Career Protocol has done a lot of study behind good storytelling. I was used to presenting projects and stories in the way they were structured in my head. But, developing the ability to tell stories properly showed me there is an order of events, a timeline, a proper length, and other factors that I must consider in order for people to perceive what I really want them to perceive, for them to remain interested and convinced and most importantly, for them to trust me.

Having said the above I want to conclude that if I had gone with someone that would have chopped up all the work and given it to me ready to eat, I would have finished without doing a lot of work myself but I would not have had as much fun and learned as many valuable lessons about myself and abilities that I will carry through all my professional and personal life.

Working with Angela at Career Protocol was wonderful but I would like to share a specific situation and the main reason why I am submitting this recommendation as I said before I only had a couple of months to prepare my application and prepare my GRE test (which I had never taken) and I was only applying to only the best programs in the world. Everything was going great and suddenly I started feeling overwhelmed because of the time and I sent a panic attack email to Angela. She answered the email saying that if it was necessary, she wouldn’t sleep, but that I would end up with killer applications (of course done entirely by me). Career Protocol made me feel safe and confident about my applications.

I believe it is also important to share that I had a very low GRE and still got accepted to a Top Program.

Honestly, I sought Angela’s help because I knew I didn’t know a whole lot about B-School applications, coming from a career in the Navy. I knew I needed help because I didn’t know where to start. I reached out to other consultants, and they literally wanted to know only numbers before they would even agree to work with me, and many told me they would not help me with an M7 with my stats. Angela asked me one thing: do you want to make the world a better place? And she only promised me one thing: I am going to help you figure out how to tell your story. She didn’t promise me the answers, or tell me what to write that would get me in; she simply told me that she would help me do some discernment to distill my story and then apply it to the difference I want to make in the world. After a very rough application process with another firm, I landed interviews with Wharton and Harvard but I really did not know how to tackle them.

When I started my MBA process, I was overwhelmed, and lost, and had 5 months total before the Round 2 deadline. I knew my dream schools were GSB, HBS, and Wharton. I had no idea how to approach the GRE, who to ask for rec letters, or what my essays should look like.

Fast forward a few months, I had three admit letters in hand from all of my top schools.

What happened in the middle? A lot of things. But the single most important decision I made was to work with Angela.

After our first call, I knew I wanted to work with her. I was originally very skeptical about working with an MBA consultant. But she knew the MBA landscape in and out, was immediately candid about my prospects, and exactly what I needed to get done by which dates to give me the best chances at going to business school. And beyond all of this, she was friendly and great to talk to, and a fantastic sounding board for all the questions I had.

We worked through so much together, but my biggest take away was surprisingly not the application that I turned in (and was proud of!). It was understanding my own career trajectory. Another thing to note was Angela’s deep understanding of MBA applications. I had read dozens of books on MBA applications and thought I understood best practices. This paid off: two of the schools I was admitted to speaking specifically about how unique my essays were.

We all have unique journeys and unique futures ahead of us. But if you’re looking to show the best and most authentically compelling version of yourself to admissions committees, my only advice is to consider working with Angela and the Career Protocol team.

I would say I am a very picky person. But I am soooooooo grateful to got the chance to work with Angela through my MBA application journey.

I will start with the initial consultation I had with her. During the first consultation, she didn’t give me a feeling of selling business at all. She very objectively assessed my candidacy, pointed out my strength and weakness, encouraged me to get a higher score, and suggested I apply in Round 2 instead of rushing it in Round 1. She even referred me to a GMAT tutor to do a consultation to help with my GMAT study. After I took another GMAT test, she happily did another consultation with me, even though I hadn’t signed up with her yet. She was quite honest with me the entire time, and beyond that, she encouraged me to aim high. After the two consultations, I signed up with her.

The next thing I was impressed with was the structured system she had to guide me through the entire process. The client portal is very well-designed and has a lot of videos, articles, and instructions that guided me from the beginning of developing my personal stories to scholarship negotiation and choosing offers. She even has an entire class for job hunting after being admitted. Based on the detailed instructions, I was able to complete a very long questionnaire as the story bank and basepoint, which proved very helpful throughout the entire application journey. Before the kick-off call with Angela, she read through my 50+ pages long answers to the questionnaire very carefully, and was able to put together a 20+ page slide that summarized my life story and the game plan for the entire MBA application. She is so experienced, as such, she had a very clear customized strategy for me and a clear picture of the orders of the schools to apply to first, and also the outline of each essay.

During the essay revision process, her comments always pointed to the right point and got me to think harder, and get the better essays out. Sometimes, even if I was pretty satisfied with the essay, she really pushed me to the limit. Besides that, I left a lot of questions and comments in each draft, and she was always able to answer them. Her abundance of knowledge of each school helped me add more color to my essays. Also, she didn’t sugarcoat anything and always used her expertise to warn me about something less valuable to include in the essay. She gave me very detailed guidance with contacting my recommenders and really helped a lot as well.

Another thing I wanted to talk about is the interview prep. After taking her entire interview prep class on the portal, and doing mock interviews with her. I found myself not only ready for MBA interviews, and also equipped to prepare for future interviews for jobs. The method and the ability to discover my stories and present them in a very organized way is super valuable for the rest of my career.

Other than helping me with my MBA application, she really went above and beyond. Besides thousands of other things, the thing I am grateful for the most is that she gave me career and life advice as well. She noted that I had some problems with my working style and my thinking process, but she wanted the best for me and pointed that out. She even made suggestions about books that I could read and other ways to overcome those problems. I am super grateful that she told me that, I believe it is a life lesson for me.

I am an Asian male international applicant who went to college in the US and is currently working in the US on a work visa. I did my undergrad in Engineering but pivoted to management consulting after finishing school. After staying in management consulting for around 3 years, I made a transition into Business Operations at a growth stage healthcare tech start-up. I applied for MBA with 5 years of working experience because after seeing both sides of strategy and operations at both fortune 500 companies and startups, I wanted to gain additional experience around entrepreneurship and pivot into Product Management. I am interested in the digital health space and am looking to meet people with similar passions at business school.

In terms of application outcomes and stats, I had a 750 GMAT and a high 3.9 GPA, and I received admission to HBS from round 1 applications.

I worked with Angela to conduct a mock interview ahead of my HBS interview. I would highly recommend working with Angela for HBS mock interview as she is very knowledgeable about the process and gives you candid feedback on how you can improve and succeed in the actual interview. In the one-hour session, Angela started off role playing the interviewer who is strict and direct to the point with her questions to mimic a “tough” interviewer experience. It certainly put me to the test and immediately exposed a few of my underprepared areas. She took detailed notes during the mock interview, literally down to the minutes I spent on each question, to then give me a comprehensive review of my performance. She pointed out a few key areas of improvement and shared a few tips that I found super helpful. After the debrief, I felt much more comfortable facing the real HBS interview. The techniques Angela gave came in handy during the actual interview and I felt confident after the interview that I had presented myself in the best way possible.

As an international student, the MBA admission process was a black box to me. MBA consultants and GMAT classes are quite uncommon and I’d never heard of them. And even when I discovered what they did, I was sure I didn’t need one. I had a strong GMAT score and a job in an MBB, so what could they possibly add to my application? Then I met Angela.

Angela distinguishes herself from all the other MBA consultants because she truly speaks from the heart, provides candid and actionable suggestions and she really cares about others. My first trek through the MBA application cycle, I was planning to work with Angela, but after seeing so much free information online, I figured I could do it on my own. Ultimately, I was rejected without an interview at four schools ranked in the 7-12 range. As they say at Career Protocol, you really do only MBA once, so I decided if I was going to do it, I needed to do it right. Angela was gracious to welcome me back to Career Protocol and it was then that she gave me the best MBA application advice I ever received, which was to be wary of application advice from students and alumni. Many of these individuals believe they got admitted because of something, when in reality, they may have gotten in DESPITE that exact thing.

From then on, when someone at Career Protocol said jump, I said how high? If you think that’s an exaggeration, Angela once mentioned that having accomplishments within your hobbies was important, and her example was that if you run, consider training for a marathon. On paper, I am below average on literally every metric at every school in the top 20, but because of the guidance I received at Career Protocol, I find myself with multiple offers, including one from HBS.

Working with Angela was the best financial decision I have made in years. I had already applied to a business school (had been denied) and I knew I needed guidance from someone who understood the process but also would be willing to challenge me. The process of working on essays with Angela, who is a keen storyteller, was challenging and yet rewarding.

Angela is the best editor in town and that challenges you to make sure you are telling your most authentic story. For me, telling the story of my career was extremely tough. I have to say that’s the kind of push I needed for the last two months, and we ended up applying to six programs in Round 1.

Results speak for themselves: I got into 5/6 top MBA programs and I am headed to Harvard Business School in the fall.

To be honest, I wasn’t even sure I needed an admissions consultant at the beginning of this process. I knew that I could do an application that reaches 80-90% of its potential, but I also knew that MBA applications are ridiculously competitive and that the margins of success are small enough that the last 10% could make a big difference, so I decided to go all-in and work with Angela. There’s no way I would’ve gotten into Wharton and LBS without her, given that I went to a no-name school and worked for no-name companies.

My favorite parts about working with Angela and CP were (1) the introspective deep dive, (2) the additional resources available, and (3) the human approach.

(1) The introspection that CP “forces” you through goes very deep, and is a key part of the process to help identify what you bring to a class. Especially for me, having a resume without any brand names, I knew this would make or break my application.

(2) There are A LOT of complementary resources available in the app they built – everything you possibly need to know about applications, resumes, interviews, scholarship negotiation, but also other lots of stuff post-acceptance, to make the most of the MBA itself. I didn’t really appreciate how much time all these resources and having Angela at the other end of an email would save me in the application process to be honest – especially when things got very busy.

(3) When you look at the Career Protocol (CP) website, you’ll realize that they’re a bit different from other admission consulting firms out there haha – a lot wackier, more human, and definitely more fun. That was a big part of why I chose to go with Angela in the end, and given that I’ll be attending Wharton, I’m really damn glad I did.

In detail: My background was in MBB consulting in the Asia Pacific. I’d previously applied for H/S/W and wasn’t successful at even securing an interview, despite a strong GMAT and undergraduate GPA.

Despite a 610 GMAT, a state school background, work experience in only one company, and only applying to two programs because of my fear of being rejected everywhere, I got an acceptance from HBS and waitlisted post interview in the GSB in the most competitive MBA application year!

She even prohibited me from looking at examples! She thoughtfully guided me to realize the highlights of my life and how to best express them in each part of my application. Even my passion to create the perfect Pisco Sour was included as a small line in my resume. I got questioned by both interviewers in the GSB and HBS about it. Angela knows exactly what detail to add where. She even worked with me in tiny job description boxes that perhaps other consultants don’t consider. There wasn’t a detail that Angela didn’t help me craft.

The essays that I ended up writing and my application inspire me. This is the most important. I’m also happy they inspired the Adcom! In addition, my post-MBA goals have multiplied in ambition and impact. The interview skills I’ve gained in Career Protocol’s program have already opened many doors and I’m no longer nervous. I am a woman in tech working 90 hours per week, stubborn AF, and only wanted to apply to 2 schools: GSB and HBS, no backups. Angela helped me make that happen. I was hesitant to hire an MBA coach. For months, I had watched every Career Protocol video Angela had posted on youtube. I attended multiple admissions info sessions each for HBS and GSB over the summer of 2020. The slogan of the admissions officers seemed to be “Don’t write what you think we want to hear.” Through months of aimless brainstorming, I had convinced myself I could do it alone and didn’t need to hire anyone for help. It felt a little like cheating. BUT after talking to other friends applying to MBA programs and realizing that I hadn’t taken the standardized test yet NOR made any progress on my applications, the self-imposed FOMO of ‘what if investing in an MBA coach is the difference between getting in and not getting in’ sent me off to the races reading reviews of consultants and setting up ‘free intro calls’ with many of the top-ranked companies on P&Q. For context, I am a high-achieving woman working at a large tech company, not a typical consultant or IB or PE applicant, working 90+ hours per week. If you’re reading this and hesitant about calling yourself a high-achieving woman, don’t sell yourself short. You are probably high achieving. But back to my story.
My priorities were largely finding a coach who would make the process enjoyable, who would put up with me wanting to do things my own way, and who would give me the tough love I (often) need in moments of stubbornness. Every consulting agency intro call got straight to business. They reviewed my profile, said nice things, and talked about how many former admissions officers they had employed on their staff. They told me what they thought I wanted to hear– that I was a good fit for my choice schools and that they would help minimize any weaknesses in my candidacy.
But my intro call with Angela was different. It wasn’t just business. There was laughter. We were both a little bit goofy. She talked to me like a human being and about their approach being centered around human growth. She was exactly what I was looking for—and THAT is the magic behind Angela Guido and her sorcery at Career Protocol.
I was confident I wouldn’t need much help in the self-knowledge part of applying because – as I told Angela in our intro call– I tend to be very self-aware. Almost too self-aware. And yet, like every other review states about working with Angela, I was blown out of the water after Angela and I met for our first Discovery Call. Working with Angela sharpened my ability to articulate both my essence and my experiences, built a toolkit of ACTIONABLE and SUSTAINABLE frameworks for goal-setting and network-building for before, during, and after MBA, and most importantly, taught me to be more empathetic with myself. If someone had told me I would emerge from the application process a more confident, joyful, proud person – AND an HBS admit – AND that my daily life would improve by 5X because of Career Protocol – I wouldn’t have believed it. But it’s true. All thanks to Angela. I couldn’t have done it without her. She changed my life. GWCP.

Yes, I got into HBS. Yes, I had the privilege to choose from a handful of M7 schools. And no, I don’t have some crazy stats going on. I just had a very compelling story on why I wanted to go to business school, which Angela helped me navigate through the years.

I met Angela back in 2018 when I was considering applying to Business School but I wasn’t sure it was the right path for me. There were still many things I wanted to do before going to business school, but I was afraid I’d be too old by then (you hear all these crazy stats about people (especially women) going into business school super young and I thought I needed to be a certain age to get in). Sounds crazy now, I know. Angela invested in my development before I was even a client of hers. She became my go-to person to test different career paths and encouraged me to take risks.

We stayed connected all throughout and in 2020, with a global pandemic just starting, and MBA program uncertainty, at its peak, I decided to work with Angela. I interviewed other consultants, offering packages for 1/2 or 1/3 of what Angela offered. I have friends who went with them, so I saw first hand the difference in experience.

I applied to 6 schools, took the GRE from home (19 days before submitting my application), and was running a due diligence project (the most brutal kind that exists) at the same time. It was a mess. But without Angela it would have been impossible for me to navigate this whole process. Because you’re going to doubt yourself. You’re going to think that you’re not good enough, and there will be moments in which you think you should just give up. But Angela won’t let you. She will remind you how amazing you are, how much you have achieved, and how giving up is not an option.

Yes. I got into HBS. But that’s not why I’d choose Angela again. I would choose her again because I grew as a person, as a professional, as a friend, and as a partner.

I am an incoming Class of 2023 and have worked with Angela in the past application cycle. Whenever I look back at my experiences of working with Angela over the past few months, I can only summarize them into one sentence: “Absolutely worth every penny!!”

A quick overview about my background: I am a native speaker of Chinese, finished my undergraduate in the U.S., and had around 3.5 years of working experience in one of the Big Four. GMAT and GPA are both around average. Nothing extremely unique from my prior experiences, either.

I started to look for an MBA consultant around February, and Angela was recommended by one of my friends. I had talked to 6-7 different consultants before Angela but never really felt the “click” with any of those. I was quite clear about what I needed – someone who REALLY knows me and trusts me on this whole process. I didn’t want to work with someone who has no faith in me – applying to MBA is super stressful, why do I need to add extra pressure on my shoulder by working with someone who doesn’t trust me???

During our first conversation, Angela, unlike all the other consultants that I had talked to, went beyond just my numbers on paper (i.e., GMAT, GPA, undergrad, job title, etc.) and focused more on the “invisible” things about me. I could feel that she genuinely wanted to know me as a human being and try to help me, even though I never promised her anything during that first meeting. Just 10-15 minutes into our conversation, Angela was already able to put together a decent picture about me and tell me how to best position myself. That was mind-blowing!! While the other consultants could only tell me “Top XXX is your goal” in the first conversation, Angela was already helping me brainstorm my MBA stories.

Working with Angela was painless. The Discovery session was magical – it made my school selection and storyboarding SOOOOO easy. I was asked to fill out a 15-pager with questions around my values and my life experiences, and then Angela turned my input into a PPT deck filled with extremely nuanced insights all about my personality and uniqueness. Then, we had a deep-dive conversation, during which I almost felt like I got to know a brand new “me”. I started to realize some hidden qualities that I may not had noticed before but that have been impacting my daily life in every single way. With this Discovery process and brainstorming sessions done in a proper way, the essay-drafting was just a piece of cake. Angela did not word-edit my essays, but she provided comments that helped bring my stories up to the next level. In fact, sometimes she might just leave one or two comments, but those one or two comments literally took me the whole day to address. I think it shows how insightful Angela’s comments were. I also like the fact that Angela did not word-edit my essays, because I did not want my voice to be taken away.

After the essay-drafting part, the interview-prep was another amazing experience. The Interview Hero course slides interviews (not just the MBA interviews, but any type of interviews) into various different pieces. By learning and practicing under a systematic framework, you would not go wrong again in any interviews. And yes, the skills that I picked up from Interview Hero would definitely be applicable to my future interviews. The magical thing about the course is that it helped me present my authentic and best self. And by being myself, I felt more powerful than ever when talking to strangers.

I ended up getting an offer from an M7 with $$ and being waitlisted by another M7. Angela has continued to support me throughout the waitlist process and we will see how this will turn out!! Regardless of the final result, I cannot thank Angela enough for what she has done for me. Not only did I earn the MBA opportunity that I had been dreaming of, but also I made a trustworthy friend, developed tons of practical skills, and most importantly, established the self-confidence that I never had.

I knew I wanted to work with Angela as soon as I met her during our introductory phone call – her genuine interest in my background and aspirations, her charisma and enthusiasm, and her evident expertise in the MBA application process were palpable (even over the phone). I am planning to attend HBS this Fall, and I couldn’t have done it without her support and advice. My MBA application journey is rather the long one. I have been working on getting into an MBA program for the past 5 years. In 2016, after months of diligent research, I found the consultant I decided to work with: Angela Guido. Based on feedback and reviews, I somehow felt comfortable that she will be able to help me. Unfortunately, the company that she worked for back then refused to guarantee that if I subscribe to one of the company’s admission packages, I will be assigned to Angela. In the beginning, I thought we are going to right away start working on school essays. Things that I thought were ordinary and less important became the core of my story and identity. Angela immediately grabbed those aspects, went even deeper so that I understood how unique my life story was. I wasn’t aware back then but with this approach, we were apparently covering most of the essay prompts that we would have to deal with. But most important thing was to build the connection: Angela completely understood who I am and what I want, and I reached the point of putting together a profile of myself that includes my past, present, future, goals, and most importantly emotions attached to those.

I genuinely felt how much Angela believed my story. She honestly expressed her opinions and advised me on which schools I might be fit in and what to expect from the application to these programs. I strongly felt that if Angela believed my story I could make the admission committee give me a chance as well.

The essay writing process was another extraordinary journey for me. It is quite easy to miss important points while writing about yourself. I seemed to have a habit of assuming that the reader knows everything about me and especially about how I felt in a particular situation.

In the first few drafts, Angela spent a lot of time teaching me how to discreetly express my emotions, and also since she knew all the aspects of my story, in certain cases, she advised me to connect things from my experiences. I literally printed out all the comments she made in draft versions of my initial essays and made sure that learned all the reasons for those comments. In less than a month, I was able to drastically improve my writing style and ability to effectively and concisely communicate my ideas.

Together with Angela, I was able to finish my application to four schools: HBS, Stanford, Booth, and Yale. Writing the essays for HBS and Stanford was especially challenging. Make no mistake, all the top MBA programs know what they are doing when it comes to setting up the essay prompts. You have to really know yourself and your goals and how they connect with the particular school that you are applying to. When I finished my application to these schools, I was comfortable with any decision because I really believed that with the help of Angela I put together the best of myself. I also decided that even if I fail again, I would continue to work with Career Protocol and target my dream schools again in the next admission cycle.

I received an interview invitation from Booth and believe it or not without much preparation showed an amazing performance. Throughout the months, working on my story with Angela really helped me to learn effectively and fully present myself and my goals. So extra preparation was not needed when it came to the interview: I was excited, a bit nervous but also very well prepared. Finally, I received the news that I was working towards for several years: admission offer from Booth School of Business, my dream school, and program.

In the end, I cannot describe enough how much I enjoyed working with Angela and her company. MBA consultancy is a big industry, and even though our relationship had business interests in it, I never felt those interests in any stage of our cooperation. There was only one thing, telling my story in the best possible way and letting the schools decide. The most important feeling is to know that you have done your absolute best. Getting into the program or not is just another thing that you really have no control over. I came across Angela’s resources shortly after being dinged following an awful interview. I knew that my biggest weakness had been storytelling and connecting with the interviewer… what’s more, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do Post-MBA. The best thing is I now have these resources handy for when I’m applying for future roles!

After submitting my MBA applications, I read “Interview Hero”. This is hands down the best interview resource I’ve come across. After reading it, I only wished I’d had it before my interview. But all is well that ends well!

Shortly after submitting my application, I was invited to interview with INSEAD, my top choice. My interviews went really well… I actually enjoyed them! And I’m really happy to say that I’ll be moving to France to pursue an MBA at INSEAD next year!

I participated in YOMO, Angela’s course to help you prepare for an MBA the summer prior to beginning. YOMO is the perfect way to prepare for your MBA. I love that the course was self-paced and that we had regular calls for us to meet and catch up. The course helps you better understand the keys to work-life success and what really makes you happy. You’ll encounter several frameworks that you can employ while recruiting and having these in mind before even beginning the process is so helpful. The course was valuable for me because, in addition to the above, it helped me realize the importance of relationship building, whether you’re recruiting or not. There are also cool guest speakers that you can listen to, and I appreciated hearing their perspectives since they also went through the process. And most importantly, you’ll spend time reflecting and better understanding your values and what you want to do, which is much easier to do before you get busy with school.

Angela is a wonderful coach. I first heard her speak at a Forte event in London a few years ago and was inspired by her unique way of thinking. A former recruiter, she truly understands how candidates can differentiate themselves to not only get the job but also to be a better connector outside of the recruiting cycle. I read her networking book while completing this course and the information in both gels so well together (I highly recommend this). I’m more confident going into the recruiting cycle because of her and YOMO – thank you, Angela!

I began my MBA journey in late 2018/early 2019 by reaching out to a handful of different consultants and setting up initial calls with them. I was less than two years out of undergrad and while I had taken the GMAT, was ill-prepared for an MBA application. A handful of the consultants I had spoken to seemed eager to get the process started and felt that I would be a strong candidate at all the schools I had the desire to go to. I came from a lower socioeconomic status and clawed out of poverty by planning ahead and relying on my community for support. Yet, most people where I come from couldn’t tell you where Harvard is located on a map, and you’d be lucky if they had even heard of Stanford. Despite being a highly qualified deferred enrollment candidate, I didn’t have my community to help me on this one, and I was dreading going on that journey alone -at least, until I met Angela. I expected to face some imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and self-sabotaging humility during the process. For people like me who’ve spent their entire life being told they don’t deserve a seat at the table, those emotions are a given. I will never forget the zoom call that followed. We wrapped Stanford up quickly, but then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and my journey came to a screeching halt. I was putting in 12-hour workdays in a hastily converted linen-closet-office. I was quarantined away from my partner. I took on my parents’ financial responsibilities despite worrying about getting laid off myself. What finally brought me to my breaking point was having to say goodbye to my grandmother over Facebook Live while strangers “heart reacted” to her funeral with the same reverence they gave to cat videos. On top of this Stanford was taking their sweet time inviting me to interview, and I was sure I had gotten dinged. I was unable to function, let alone finish my applications.

Yet, Angela was constantly there for me. Not as an admissions consultant, but as a friend, mentor, and quasi grief counselor. When I felt like I was losing my mind she always had wisdom for the moment -providing equal parts actionable advice and compassion. With her help, I fought off depression and took back control over my life -just in time for my Stanford admissions interview invitation to show up. The only complication was that my Stanford alumni interviewer was General Motors CEO and Stanford Board of Trustees member, Mary Barra… Surely, Angela wouldn’t have any experience with that terrifying situation, right? Wrong, she’s had clients get interviewed by her before and gave me the direction I needed to absolutely slay it.

Angela Guido is certainly a voodoo shaman of the human spirit and a magical MBA unicorn, but she has a secret to her success. The truth is she couldn’t care less about whether I got into business school. Her engine is fueled by helping people find lifelong fulfillment, business school admission is the byproduct. I can now proudly wear my “I learned to articulate my life’s purpose, and all I got was this lousy Stanford acceptance letter” t-shirt. Thanks, Angela!

After seeing first-hand how knowledgeable Angela is about the business school application process through Forte MBA Launch, I knew I had to work with her! Angela supported me in getting into Wharton with a named merit scholarship.

I worked with a different consultant at a top firm the year prior, but I much preferred working with Angela and wish I had worked with her sooner! I felt the previous consultant I worked with was too busy for me at times and kind of gave up on me. Angela is always wholly supportive. I will always remember my first phone call with Angela. I was a nervous wreck, with a million and a half questions about the MBA process and uncountable doubts about my prospects. After talking to Angela, she not only gave me hope but also real advice. Within the next few days, I signed up with Career Protocol; looking back, I can say it was the best decision I made.

While I didn’t work directly with Angela on my application (I worked with another AMAZING consultant – Britt), Angela and I worked closely on mapping out my career path. She scheduled a career coaching call with me where we would discuss what I wanted to do post-MBA; this call was not part of the package, and she did this simply because she could tell how confused and stressed I was about my post-MBA plans during our initial call.

By the end of the call, the following happened:
1) Angela and I had designed an entire career path, which was a complete pivot from my current role in Investment Management.
2) Angela pointed out some uncovered assumptions I had about other safe career paths I wanted to explore, helping me realize that none of those options were actually anything I wanted.
3) Angela made me feel that she had known me for years, and genuinely wanted the best for me.
4) Lastly, Angela gave me the courage to believe that my side passion project could turn into reality, only if I had the courage to believe in myself and followed my dreams, unapologetically.

Thanks to Angela/Britt, I got into both Wharton and Booth, and will be attending Wharton – my dream school – this fall. Beyond helping me get into a top business school program, they gave me the courage to follow my heart, even when it’s off the well-worn path.

Angela helps you realize how amazing you already are. That alone empowered me to believe in myself and in my story. The rest was just putting the pieces together. I got accepted to one of my top schools and 4 other schools; all of them with scholarships ranging from 50K to full tuition.

I am still stunned. If you had told me 12 months ago that I would be picking up the phone to hear “Congratulations! We would love to admit you to the Stanford GSB Class of 2022” I would have told you that you were simply being ridiculous, and to stop getting my hopes up.

And yet, after working with Angela, I not only have a Stanford offer but offers to three other M7 schools, one with a scholarship! It’s well beyond my wildest dreams, and I’m putting the effort into writing this review because I am so grateful to her and her team for the countless hours of support (literally, unlimited) that they put into getting me where I am today.

My background: I currently work at an MBB firm in international geography. My background pre-MBB is non-traditional – I worked in a community-run NGO, with no business qualification to speak of (therefore why I wanted to go to B-school in the first place!). I took the GRE, not the GMAT (score was ~ average for top schools), and my undergraduate marks were pretty poor. In short, we had a lot of work to do to reach my target schools.

The process: Angela was dedicated from the start to truly understanding my story. She asked the right questions from the very start, which led me to pour out some of my deepest hopes and fears to someone I had spoken to for barely 15 minutes!

Through countless iterations of multiple essays, Angela was instrumental at helping me ‘show, not tell’, and to bring parts of my personal story that I had discounted as irrelevant to an MBA to the fore – which, in the end, became the centerpieces of my applications. Angela was the savior I didn’t even realize I needed. When I embarked on my MBA journey, I was confident that I could complete strong applications for my target schools on my own. Nope. 3 weeks before the first deadline, when my ego finally stepped aside, I reached out to Angela (who I had known previously) for help. She has the logic all thought out and I have ALWAYS FELT PROTECTED and ULTIMATELY CONFIDENT when following her game plane.
3. She will uncover your fears and motivations and turn them into your STRENGTHS. But only if you let her. And if you don’t, she will call you out (point #1). Through this process, I often felt Angela knew me better than I knew myself.
I should also add that I am a woman working as an MBB consultant and I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for Angela’s career coaching. Coming from a non-traditional background, Angela as a coach empowered and equipped me to get to where I am today. She even got a friend of hers who had previously worked at an MBB firm to give me key advice and tips.

My background is non-traditional, to say the least: I have worked in several industries since graduating, have had more side-hustles than I can count on my hands and toes, and currently run two small businesses, alongside a demanding day-job. With visions of growing one of my ventures into something larger, I have been toying with the idea of going back to business school for a little over two years now.

Last year, I joined Forte’s MBALaunch program to get a better sense of the process and gain access to resources to support my journey. Through this program, I was able to speak to countless consultants in person at events, as well as through 1-on-1 appointments available to the launchers. I was looking for some help in tying my experiences and goals together to put my best foot forward, and was excited to have these consultants as a resource in the process – or so I thought.

In no time, I realized that nearly all of my consultant appointments resulted in similar criticism of my candidacy:
1. My unique story is inspiring yet will most likely be a challenge to explain to AdCom
2. I was asked to leave out many of my experiences to present a more cohesive and palatable story for AdCom’s benefit
3. And often, I was asked to consider applying to lesser reputable programs to manage my expectations

The action steps were always recommendations based on “What AdCom is looking for” and how to change my resume and narrative to mold to these expectations. It felt like a game on how to put together a cookie-cutter, tried and tested application to just get into a program. “You just have to get in, and then you can do whatever you want” they would say.

I was bored of the version of myself they suggest I put forward, and truly couldn’t see myself applying in this manner or being happy with myself if I gained admission with this approach.

At this point in my journey, I came across a webinar Angela hosted for the Forte program. She spoke about the power of celebrating your story in your MBA application, and not just tailoring it to meet what we believe AdCom might want to hear. I reached out to learn more.

From the introductory call, it was obvious that she was committed to celebrating each individual’s uniqueness as an MBA applicant. She showed a tremendous amount of faith in my candidacy and really became a champion against some of the insecurities I had developed through this process.

Some highlights:
1. I was planning to apply in Round 3 or Round 1, next year – and she actually encouraged me to apply in Round 2 because she felt that I was ready (so much confidence in me that I didn’t have in myself just yet!)

Results? I was able to turn around applications within six weeks to top b-schools, and gain acceptance into 5 programs with scholarships!

Going back to my first statement. For me, whether I realized this at the time or not, the application process wasn’t just about getting into business school. My larger journey has been about zeroing in on my core values to ensure I was aligning my past and future self to honestly translate my values towards my life goals. If that sounds like something you want to be able to accomplish as well, trust me: Angela is THE master.

I worked with another very qualified consultant from a top admissions consulting firm before working with Angela, which I think gives me a unique point of view on what makes Angela different from any other consultant.

The self-discovery and storytelling process is really the foundation of the application and the part that you can control. Angela is an absolute maestra at guiding her clients through this – she helped me very effectively connect my values, experiences, and goals, allowing me to truly understand what I wanted to do during and after my MBA, which in turn resulted in essays that felt genuine and in admissions interviews in which I felt very comfortable with minimal preparation.

I remember very vividly the call in which we tied the dots together. We had had a call to outline my strategy for one essay a week earlier, and after reviewing the first draft she suggested we have another call to re-evaluate – she knew my story could be more powerful. Even though she was on her way to visit family for a holiday, she found time to discuss. On that call, we had what we ended up describing our ‘epiphany’, which uncovered sides of my story that I had not thought about and that really represented my motivations and fit perfectly with a few key anecdotes and strengths I wanted to highlight.

Following that call, the essay writing process became very easy – I was able to write essays very quickly, and I even did some applications on my own that were very successful.

At the end of the process I had gained admission to multiple M-7 schools, and I can’t imagine having gone through this process without Angela. The method she utilizes (and other consultants at Career Protocol employ as well) is the best I can imagine for the MBA admissions process.

Much like you, I tirelessly researched admission consultants and had a handful of 30-minute consultation calls in order to find the best partner to help me during my MBA application. • Working with Angela is like working with your best friend
o Not only is Angela super down to earth and one of the easiest people to talk to, she actually made the process fun! Every email, essay revision, phone conversation was like chatting with a friend who at times knew me better than I knew myself. Angela was a constant support throughout the entire process, even when it was hard. When I didn’t get into one of the schools that I applied to, Angela immediately set up a call with me and we discussed what we thought were the contributing factors, next steps, and how I could improve my outstanding applications with what we knew. This truly showed me how invested she was in my process and how much she cared about my success.
• Career Protocol community

This was definitely a differential factor for me. Angela had an HBS essay writing webinar set up for all the Career Protocol members where we were able to interact with the other applicants. This one-on-one interaction and brainstorming session were what shaped my overarching theme for my “Why an MBA” essay. Also, after having multiple school offers, Angela connected me with another prospective student she was working with who also had similar offers in order to brainstorm pros and cons together, which has proven to be super helpful in making my final decision!

I have been admitted R1 to both Kellogg and Booth, which were my top choice schools, and will be going to Booth this Fall! I can confidently say that through my experience with Angela I have been able to completely shape my story and better understand myself and my purpose as I start business school in the Fall!

The MBA application process can be nerve-wracking and intimidating. Although I had a solid GMAT score, work experience and extracurriculars, I was so nervous going into the process because I had a below average GPA for the top schools. But working with Angela made the process SO much less stressful and even fun!

Before working on any of the essays with Angela, she has you fill out a discovery document, where you really reflect on yourself, your accomplishments, and the most important moments of your life thus far who have shaped who you are. Angela also makes a summary powerpoint of this document with the main themes and stories for your essays and interviews. I went back to this initial document and powerpoint over and over throughout the MBA process. Not only did it set up a foundation for the stories I was going to tell for my essays, but it also was immensely helpful when I was preparing for interviews.

Angela also helped me figure out what I wanted to do in the short term in addition to the long term. I was able to clarify these career goals for myself through one of our initial phone calls, and through various career goal tools in her client portal. This was crucial to helping me figure out my story, and what I want to do immediately post-MBA.

When it came time to write the essays, Angela and I worked long and hard on the big, ominous prompts to really dig deep into the stories that I wanted to tell, which were uncovered piece by piece with every draft. While a LOT of work was put into these drafts up front, once we got them finalized, the rest of the process moved so quickly and I was able to cut these drafts down and revise them for each of the schools I applied to. In addition, writing these essays helped me learn more about myself than I ever could have imagined.

I loved the attitude that Angela and the entire Career Protocol team had. The MBA application process – from GMAT to networking to actually writing the essays – takes up a lot of mental and emotional energy. Angela was always enthusiastic, motivating, uplifting, and made me feel like I could do it and could achieve the results that I wanted. She also took the time to meet up in person whenever she could, which is rare for working with a consultant in Europe! The two times she was in the US, she took care to meet up – once in the airport, and once with the whole Career Protocol team too! If you want to compete for a spot at one of the best business schools, you need to work with the best consultant. I, like most people in my position, was apprehensive to spend the money on a consultant and went back and forth on the idea for several weeks/months. Then I spoke with Angela. Within a few minutes of my free consultation, I was sold. I wasn’t interested in paying someone to compliment me… Angela holds no punches and tells it like it is so if you’re looking for someone to stroke your ego and pat you on the back, look elsewhere. I wanted real, candid feedback. Aside from being in the military, I’m no different than most candidates interested in top tier MBA programs. In fact, my GMAT score was 50 points below the average of any top school I was interested in. Rather than steering me toward lower-ranked schools because I didn’t have the “magic numbers/stats”, Angela dug in and encouraged me to apply for HBS and other schools I would have never even considered by focusing on my strengths and experiences. While I was eventually dinged from HBS, I received interview invites from almost every other school and withdrew my applications from others when I was admitted to my M7 dream school.

Before I go any further, let me make it clear that Angela will not write your essays for your nor will she do your work for you—she doesn’t need to because she knows how to make you realize what makes you unique which leads to an even better story (and a better candidate when it comes time for interviews, etc). On my fifth revision of one particular essay, I very vividly remember thinking, “why won’t she just do this for me? I’m paying a lot of money for her services.” I was a bit frustrated and I think she was beginning to sense my frustration so we organized a call. During that call, Angela made me realize why I was missing the mark and how I could effectively convey my story to the adcom. I can’t remember exactly what she said but from that point onward, everything began to click. I felt completely in control of my story and began to knock each essay out of the park with small tweaks here and there. By the time interviews rolled around, I already felt confident that I had developed the storytelling techniques required to excel. The process has been nothing short of transformative and I will rely on what I learned from Angela as I move forward in my career.

I first spoke with Angela in 2018. I was preparing to apply to MBA programs and I felt so overwhelmed by the process- what schools to apply to, how to prepare essays, how to present myself, and when to take the GMAT. Perhaps the best part about Angela’s book was that it was all so very relatable- the fact that I was thinking an interviewer was judging every word that came out of my mouth and that uncomfortable feeling when I’m asked to brag about my proudest moments in life. It was a huge relief to find out that most people undergo these feelings. The other best part has to be ‘the friendship mindset’ that Angela introduced in this book. Going into an interview with this frame of mind made me feel so much more authentic and focus a lot less on the end result and more on the conversation in front of me while I was in my interviews.
Previously, I followed the very tried and tested STAR approach when handling behavioral questions and, truth be told, it was similar to Angela’s 4C approach mentioned this book. However, what I did miss was all the intricate details in my stories, why they mattered to me, the stakes involved and mostly- the rollercoaster of emotions I went through when I’d either failed or succeeded. Before I was going through my stories like a robot- it was all programmed in my head and felt very algorithmic. I knew I was missing a human touch to keep my interviewer involved in my stories up until the very end. Angela’s book provided me with a solid framework to practice and deliver my stories in a vivid and succinct manner.
This is a great book for someone that has interviews coming up in a month’s time. I’d highly highly recommend it!

I knew in our first 30-minute call that Angela was the real deal. I found Angela when I was thinking of applying to business school, but in our initial call she (very bluntly) told me I wasn’t ready – my candidacy wasn’t strong enough for the schools I wanted to go to. My story is a little different than most because while I got into my safety school, I did not get into the top schools of my choice (mainly because of my low GRE). This was hard to grapple with because of all the work we put into this process and trust me, it was a lot. Yet, after working with Angela, I can say with full resolve that I have the confidence to reapply again. This was the best investment I have ever made. What I valued most about working with Angela is that I developed a true sense of pride in owning and sharing my story. I applied to Top 10 schools 3 years ago and failed miserably but I decided to try it again last year. I did not hire a consultant last time so I figured it would be best for me to do so this time. In the beginning, I talked to many consultants and they all told me the great things that I liked to hear but it just did not feel right to me. Having Angela on my team during my application process is amongst the best decisions I have ever made. I was going into this journey not knowing completely how to traverse through the various stages that would come along it – be it story formulation, the essays I had to write or the interview prep. Angela brought the perspectives that I needed at each of these stages. One of my most vivid memories from the earlier stages in my process was how Angela provided me with insights into most of the schools that I wanted to apply to and provided me recommendations on other schools that would best suit me based on my post-MBA goals.

Despite being an Indian applicant with an undifferentiated background, I would certainly attribute a large portion of getting into a top-5 global school to Angela’s presence in this journey. Regarding her style as far as involvement in crafting the essays, I found Angela’s approach to be the perfect level of intervention. The vast majority of her comments were questions to probe deeper into the meaning that I was trying to convey, propose a more compelling flow to the story, or question whether I could articulate the key point more concisely. However, at one point I found myself stuck. I tried and failed to construct my Stanford essay multiple times. As I received another email saying the dreaded “this structure isn’t going to work,” I knew that I had to start over from scratch again. With pressures from work mounting and application deadlines rapidly approaching, I was completely overwhelmed. I reached out, explaining my situation to Angela and she did not hesitate to jump on a call, plan out our work in detail for the next 3 weeks, and give me more tactical coaching on structure and storytelling. I appreciated that she was totally there for me in my toughest moments, and from that point forward, the essays came together fast. In the end, I created essays that I was extremely proud of.
To say that Interview Hero was helpful would be a major understatement. During my interview at HBS, I was peppered with question after question, but because of Interview Hero, I wasn’t intimidated. Interview Hero trained me to build a mental database of personal stories to pull from depending on the type of interview question asked. Additionally, Angela did a phenomenal job analyzing the pieces of my application to generate an interview prep sheet, which included a narrowed down list of questions she would ask if she had me in the interview. Almost half of my HBS interview questions were on that prep sheet.

After my 2 years of experience knowing a number of consultants out there (working directly or hearing about them indirectly through friends) in my entire journey of MBA admissions, I feel that I ought to give honest feedback to help those who are now standing in my shoes where I was back then. We spend so much money on consultants that we actually cannot afford or even imagine because for some of us one of the reasons of doing an MBA is because we are not in a good financial position, to begin with. But we do spend that major chunk of our savings on these consultants, for the betterment of higher purposes in our lives, thinking that the value returned will suffice the loss. Truth be told – 99% of the consultants out there are not going to return you even 1% of the value you believe the money you are putting will return. I discovered that there are very very very few who are going to be of real help to you. (what’s the probability of landing upon one such gem? Maybe less than 0.0000000000001!!!) The rest of them – some of them may even leave you depressed or harm you beyond repair (that’s what happened to me). That is precisely why I thought of writing down a review for that one invaluable consultant who is the real gem in this industry. Angela is completely different – she is not doing this as her job; she is doing this as this is her life – and that’s what makes all the difference. She is passionate, driven, and in it for the love of it. And it’s not just me, people knew of her greatness much before I discovered it. Honestly, you are lucky if you land upon working with Angela who genuinely cares about your dreams and feels the rush to make you achieve them. Moreover, she will also give you a bonus – she will make you a better person – and that in reality will go a long way with you. She will let you be “YOU” and help you go get it with this very “YOU” and that’s what adcoms love – authentic!! (Wouldn’t you love reaching there with your authentic self and not being an imposter?). For those seeking help with their interviews, her book “Interview Hero” is a life savior. Perhaps you also don’t know (like I didn’t) – the real ingredient interviewers are knowingly or unknowingly looking for. And that’s exactly what she will tell you in the book. (I could also tell you those secrets but they will never work as magically they do when Angela casts the spell). So go ahead and grab this book if a sincere and honest transformation to success is what you are looking for in your journey right now. To Angela – “You are a gift to this fraternity and beyond. Thanking you will never be enough”.

Angela is a magician. Far beyond a helpful editor, she helped me see the value in work and experiences that I had – to that point – thought of as liabilities in my MBA applications. Through her questions, she helped me recognize a consistent thread through my varied career, that I had not seen. Having recognized it, I found incredibly rewarding to reflect on and write about my story for the applications. The entire process was an invaluable exercise in reflection and telling my story – to myself as much as to adcomms – and I reaped rewards far beyond admittance to my top choice, M7 program. So glad I was able to work with Angela.

Angela made the MBA application process such a fun and pleasant self-reflection journey! I was originally very hesitant to first to work with an MBA consultant after having a terrible experience a few years ago. During that whole application process, we only had one 30-minute phone call. Everything else was over email. Outside of reviewing my resume, he took no time to get to know me as a person. His communication style was very impersonal and direct to the point of bullying. In the end, I felt my essay turned out very cookie-cutter lacking any authenticity or personality.
Working with Angela was like night-and-day compared to this other consultant, a supposed ‘guru’. Angela is extremely upbeat and kind, and she has a great intuition into what makes people tick. In our first official meeting, Angela asked me to fill out a self-discovery exercise where I shared many stories ranging from childhood memories to professional accomplishments to people who had influenced me. After spending hours working on this document, Angela clearly spent an equal amount of time analyzing my background, pulling out themes that she found across all of the stories I shared. I remember being mesmerized as she was able to pull out very accurate personal traits when we spent an hour and a half on the phone discussing my journey. From that phone call, we had developed an outline for my unique story that I was able to use across all six schools I applied to.
Throughout the essay portion, Angela made herself available to chat through feedback over the phone whenever I needed. Her way of providing critical feedback was heartfelt and very actionable. Unlike my previous consultant, she never made me feel like I was not trying hard enough. She turned around all feedback in a timely manner. When it came time for interviews, her one-on-one feedback was immensely helpful. These phone conversations were recorded, and I found myself often revisiting these recordings to master exactly how to tell a story. (Shameless plug – her book “Interview Hero” is also a must-read!) Then once I got my acceptances, she also helped me negotiate a scholarship with my top-choice.
Finally, it would be an injustice not to highlight the online portal, “The Irresistible MBA Application.” This was such an awesome supplemental tool to use alongside the one-on-one time with Angela. It walks you through every step in the application process from essays to writing short answers to negotiating scholarships. I found myself often turning back to these materials after chatting with Angela in case I could not decipher my notes.
Working with Angela was absolutely the right decision for me. She deeply cares about her clients and the output truly shows this. I plan to continue to keep in touch with her as my career progresses in case I need a pep talk. My highest regard for Angela and the Career Protocol team!

I first learned about Angela when visiting business schools across the US in an effort to narrow down my long list of target MBA programs. Many students I spoke to had used admissions consultants, but one name kept coming up again and again: Angela Guido. These recurring references gave me confidence that Angela knew what she was doing before I had even arranged our free 30-minute consultation.
Contracting an admissions consultant is no small financial commitment (aside from college tuition, it remains my single greatest expense to date!) so I was sure to speak to a number of potential consultants to find the right one. While I’m sure the other consultants would have helped contribute to my success, the calls I had with them were somewhat impersonal. I felt they were a bit jaded as I was consistently distilled down to a GMAT score, GPA, and employer. While these are undoubtedly important characteristics in an MBA profile, they aren’t anything a consultant can help you with. Consultants can, however, ensure that you bring out your personality, desires, dreams, and motivations in compelling essays. I remember Angela focused on getting to know me on our consultation call. This was very important to me – I’m more than my GMAT score and so are you! Because Angela looked beyond this, she was able to provide a qualified (and accurate) prediction of my admissions chances at my target schools. Other consultants saw the top 7 as a reach for me and suggested I should focus on the next tier of schools. It was clear that Angela felt strongly that I’d be selling myself short if I did so. I remember that early on she said something along the lines of “if you don’t get into at least one of these top 7 schools, I’ll eat my hat!” Thankfully, her hat remains safe from the prospect of human consumption by a considerable distance!
I won’t go into the detailed mechanics of how candidates work with admissions consultants, but what is worth noting is the time investment that Angela makes in you right at the beginning in the preliminary discovery document. I wrote 30+ pages over the course of a week; reams and reams of my most personal life experiences and dreams for the future. I was incredibly impressed by how thoroughly Angela read the document – in the next call we had, it actually felt strange that she knew me and the way my mind worked so well! Angela truly has a unique ability to hone in on the underlying themes from these stories that will best appeal to adcoms.
The amount of time that applicants can pour into their MBA ambitions is almost limitless: GMAT prep, extracurricular commitments and essay writing alongside full-time jobs can leave little time for anything else. So much so, that you don’t know when to stop tweaking essays! Angela provides a clear voice of reason and sanity-check when you’re over-egging your essays. I fell into the trap of making endless tweaks that added little value at best, and represented value destruction at worst. Angela won’t sugar-coat it and clearly told me that my pursuit for perfection was actually taking me backward. I know that without an experienced consultant, I would not have been able to identify the right time to stop editing an essay. I cannot stress the importance of this enough – you can drive yourself mad making final refinements, so I’m glad Angela was there to stop me!

What a difference. That was all I could think after wrapping up my first call with Angela. My MBA application wounds were still fresh, having just been rejected by all of my top choice schools. I had worked with one of the “big name” MBA consulting firms on my applications, and while my consultant was helpful editing my essays for grammar and clarity, they didn’t push me on the real meat of my content. I certainly didn’t feel I got value for the money I spent. I decided if I was going to re-apply, I needed to find someone who could really make a difference in my application. Angela’s client portal was super organized and filled with helpful materials that she guided me through (I could tell it was built by a former consultant!) When the phone call finally came informing me that I was admitted to Booth, the dark application clouds that had hung over my life for a solid two years parted – I made it! There were no significant changes in my application (no new job, no higher scores, etc.) versus the previous year – outside of the content – where Angela was able to push me to find MY voice. And it made all the difference.

I suffer from an anxiety disorder. So much so that if I am being tested for an exam or interview, my legs start shivering and teeth chattering. I can hear my heartbeats out loud.
I had a B-School interview lined up for 21st Feb, and I wondered how can my body be more nervous that I actually felt I was. Moreover, having a trusted partner like Angela helped lighten the load and calm my nerves. Left to my own devices, I would’ve nitpicked over the smallest details. But with Angela, all I needed to worry about was telling my story as authentically and as truthfully as possible. And she would take care of the rest.

Working with Angela on my business school applications is one of the best decisions I ever made—not only because Angela helped me get the results I wanted, but because her coaching made a stressful, often overwhelming application process more positive than I ever imagined possible.
I was admitted to several M7 schools, including one school with a generous merit scholarship and Stanford GSB. I sought an admissions counselor because while I have always loved school and work, I have absolutely HATED applying for those opportunities. My nerves—and the stiff competition—got to me, and I felt beaten down by the end.
I figured that having someone on my team this time could ease the burden. The rave reviews of Angela on Poets & Quants promised a better, more fun way. But some of the reviews sounded too good to be true. As I recall it, there were gushing, mushy tales about how Angela helped people find themselves. Angela’s whimsy Career Protocol website had a flash and a flare that other consultants’ marketing materials lacked. It was friendly, engaging, delightful, and optimistic.
I was skeptical. Could an MBA admissions counselor really deliver on enlightenment? Could she or he really make such a taxing process enjoyable? I wanted to believe it was possible, but would it come at the expense of rigor, professionalism, or results? Angela was clearly very good at marketing herself. In fact, she billed herself as a master communicator and storyteller. And if that were true, she could be selling me a pipe dream.
Despite my skepticism, I decided to explore Angela further, because I felt more excited about her than the other consultants. The questions that I had to answer on her website just to sign up for a free consultation forced me to think more deeply than I had before about who I was, what I cared about, and what I hoped to accomplish in my life. These sound like daunting subjects, and they are – but Angela broke down the questions in a way that made answering them surprisingly effortless and even enjoyable. I got even more excited.
Over the phone, Angela gave me her honest take on my candidacy—the good and the bad—which was distinct from the purely rosy pictures that other consultants gave me. Evidently, she was an optimist, but she was also very much a realist. I believed that she would push harder to help me present my candidacy in the best possible light because she understood what the pitfalls in my profile might be. Speaking with her energized me. She made me feel comfortable, plus she was fun and funny. She told me that the only regrets her clients have ever had in working with her is that they didn’t take the bigger risks in their applications that she had advised them to take. I knew then that I had to work with Angela.
When I started working with Angela, one of the things that immediately stood out to me about her was her energy, wit, and speed. I could barely get my stream of consciousness thoughts on the table before Angela synthesized them. Both her IQ and EQ are absolutely off the charts.
Angela made me feel comfortable enough to share my most absurd aspirations and my deepest insecurities with her—which enabled her to give me razor-sharp insights and advise me on how to mitigate the weakest points in my applications. Angela now knows me better than even my closest friends and family. She even helped me get to know myself better, which is one of the greatest gifts she gave me.
When it got to essay-writing, I often found myself overwhelmed with feedback from my friends and colleagues. Everyone had an opinion, and I was conflicted about how to use their feedback. When I took all their feedback on an early draft of one of my essays, it became a garbled Frankenstein, and I had to start over. It really stuck with me when Angela made the astute point that each individual only knows what worked for themselves—but every individual is different, so what worked for them won’t necessarily work for me. It was so helpful to have Angela as a third-party, unbiased expert I could trust to help me discern which pieces of feedback were valid, and which would dilute my personal voice and weaken my essays. She knew when to tell me to tune out what everyone else says and what I believed admissions committees wanted to hear and to write purely from my own heart. On that topic, while Angela’s somewhat unorthodox “no line editing” policy made me a little nervous at first, it proved to be the best approach, because it allowed me to find my own voice and feel true ownership over my essays and the offers of admission that I ultimately received.
When it came to interviews, Angela was also incredibly helpful. Confidence in interviews has always been my biggest challenge – so, when an interview for my top-choice school got on the calendar, I was pretty nervous. I did some practice with Angela a few days before, but I was still afraid, and Angela sensed it. Out of the blue, she sent me an encouraging email telling me how great I was and outlining the things I should keep in mind going into the interview. This was a striking instance of Angela going above and beyond her call of duty because she genuinely cared about me and wanted me to succeed. I am so grateful for that.
I don’t mean to be too sappy, but I love Angela. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to get to know her and learn from her. She is amazing and one-of-a-kind. Intro
Thanks to Poets&Quants’ MBA event in Tate Modern on March 3, 2018, I was linked to Angela, although we didn’t meet up in person and I didn’t think of using a consultant for my MBA application at that moment. It proved me wrong until I failed my first MBA interview later, but luckily I happened to connect with Angela. I guess Poets&Quants has that credit, so thanks a lot. I could never be so assertive to face my dream and to make it real, if I had never spent the last four months with Angela in taking her online course SPITR, reading her new released book Interview Hero, and asking for her advice in my MBA plan.
SPITR
The moment I decided to attend SPITR was almost the darkest moment in my life. No exaggeration at all – I lost 10 kg last year when making my own business plan, integrating my resources, and building up my team. Not to mention, I had loads of essays to finish for my University College London program at the same time. Until I was back to China, for a while I had been stuck among tough decisions to launch my business. It was the period that I realized how struggling or stressed life could be for a fresh entrepreneur. If you have ever read anything written by Angela, you could imagine both of her contagious enthusiasm and therapeutical enlightenment I felt when I at first time read Angela’s email about SPITR – the online course designed to crush consulting case interview and beyond.
As a management consulting fan and a passionate entrepreneur, I appreciate all business thinking skills and communication techniques woven into the 3-month online course SPITR. Applying immediately to my daily life what I had learned from Angela and Nicolas – our super gentle mentor used to work in McKinsey, I optimized my business model and attracted more like-minded to my team. On the other hand, I witnessed my personal growth during this course in three aspects. Firstly, I had more awareness of myself and more empathy for others. Interview Hero
As luck would have it, Angela published her first book – Interview Hero – during our SPITR course. I have been eager to improve my interview techniques especially in English since I failed my first MBA interview months ago, so I bought Angela’s book with my curiosity.
I would like to confess that I have a deeper connection with Angela after reading her book Interview Hero. Before, when taking the SPITR course, I did admire Angela’s power of making our online learning experience fun and inspiring and she was more like a highly experienced teacher to me. Now, after reading through her book word by word, she is more like a best friend from the western part of the earth to me. I have no doubt that she has a magic allowing her to connect with others, to find the best in others, and to help others to be their best selves.
You might be curious about how Interview Hero brings me closer to Angela. I would like to boil it down to three points – the mindset, the insider perspective, and the style.
As for the mindset, there are three mindsets running through the book – friendship, humble confidence, and enthusiasm. Plus, there are relevant explanations and real experiences revealing different outcomes people might have when going to interview with and without these mindsets. Not to mention interviews, I can feel positive changes when I keep these mindsets in mind. If I want to make a friend not to make a deal, people might be more interested in what I am talking. If I stay humble confidently, people might trust not double what I am saying. If I can share my enthusiasm about what I am doing, people might be so moved or inspired that they want to meet me again. Obviously, these three mindsets could be applied to myriad situations in my life rather than interviews.
With regard to the insider perspective, Angela breaks down the interview into 7 classic stages and demystifies how interviewers would think, behave and feel during interviews. To help us conquer those stages, she provides multiple formulas and diversified frameworks for different situations. More essentially, she continually invites me to reflect on myself, to be aware of my inner voice, to nourish my specialty, and to bring out my better self. I feel like she never intends to show me the only one true way but wants to help me find my own unique path to shine. How happy I will be if I can find my own path to shine? Words cannot describe lol! Again, who cares for your happiness? Your family, your lover, and your best friends! Therefore, Angela feels like one of my best friends who I regret that I could have met earlier than the Poets&Quants event!
When it comes to the style of Interview Hero, I would say it is an innovative textbook written in a readable structure with vivid descriptions. It never bores me because Angela always links her points to her journey in the real world and her journey seems like a movie to me. Besides, her sense of humor frequently caught me in surprise so that I didn’t have the chance to drift away from my long time reading. It is not that easy as it seems. I am curious about how deep should she settle down to the level of humanity care so that she can make a pure Chinese easily understand her sense of humor? So I am kind of sure that Interview Hero is not just a book for interviewees, but for everybody who cares for personal growth, interpersonal communication, and a better society.
I have seen improvements in my daily life since I knew with Angela last October. I have made several new friends in my life, received more support for my own start-up, and catch sight of some exciting collaborations in the future. Besides, I become more clear of my priority in the current stage after discussing my MBA plan with Angela.
MBA Coaching with Angela
Life is unexpected, just as I never expected that I would know Angela by starting with her online course SPITR, reading her first published book Interview Hero later, and getting her guidance about my MBA plan with her in the end. Usually, people might do it in the completely opposite order – firstly MBA consulting, then Interview training, and finally SPITR course – according to the natural developing process. I was surprised when I realized that I was working with Angela in an ‘anti-nature’ order, but more surprised when I thought back and never found any moment that Angela tried to arrange me into the supposedly ‘right’ order. I not only have a good time interacting with Angela but also witness my personal growth in many aspects. I have to say, it is the most natural, humanized, and tailor-made way of consulting or helping I have ever had in my life!
In other cases, many consultants might lose patience in me or ask me to follow the fixed routine. Even they realize that I might have my own concern – if an MBA is a MUST for me in the current stage, for many reasons they might still guide me to the application consulting process. In working with Angela, I can say she holds herself and her clients to an extremely high standard. I remember my most frustrating part of the process was regarding the reworking of a particular essay. She was excited that my first draft had shown great promise, and after rounds of revisions, I was feeling quite pleased with what it had become. She was not. Through my protests and belief that it was good enough, Angela recommended we shelve the effort and return to it later. To spare you boring details, I ended up largely scrapping that older version and creating one that was unequivocally better, which likely played no small part in getting accepted to my top-choice program.
During the final days leading up to submitting a key app, the main consultant I was working with was scheduled to become unavailable. Through mostly my own fault, I wasn’t quite as close to completion as I should be. During that mildly stressful race to the finish line, Angela was always there — responsive and friendly through a marathon of last-minute tweaks, always with an incredibly sharp eye and incisive questions.
When considering working with Career Protocol, make no mistake — nobody’s writing anything for you. The burden is yours. Instead, I would say Angela and her team push and challenge you to reflect deeper than the essay prompts to find the best and most honest version of yourself. I would highly recommend Angela because, by the end of the process, it didn’t even really feel like it was about schools, but instead about figuring out what I wanted and producing something I was truly proud of. And hey, landing my dream offer didn’t hurt either.

I read a book in which the main character (a trainee server at a high-end restaurant) is told that 49% of her job is mastering the mechanics of serving, but the other 51% of the job can’t actually be trained for. You just have to be born a 51 percenter, or someone with the empathy, compassion, and intuition necessary to excel at making people feel seen and taken care of.
I couldn’t help but remember this passage when trying to explain why working with Angela was so valuable. Plenty of consultants can offer you the 49% percent, including Angela: her deep expertise about the admissions process saved me so much time and angst versus navigating all the competing advice out on the Web. But I really chose Angela because it was clear she also had the 51%.
Applying to b-school feels like walking down a hall of mirrors. You spend all this time internalizing marketing messages from schools and selling yourself back to them that you can sometimes forget exactly who you are and what you want. But not with Angela! She is a grounding force who will help you article your values and develop the confidence to present yourself with clarity.
I applied to 6 schools total but chose the 3 core school package. Angela gave terrific, honest input on which 3 schools we should focus on together. I was anxious at first and feared winding up without any to continue working on with Angela come interview season. But between Angela’s high-level advice on the other 3, and her universally applicable storytelling and interview coaching lessons, I was ultimately really delighted by the level of support I received on the full 6.
And if all of this sounds overly fluffy, I’d also add that Angela’s instincts extend to knowing when to give it to you straight, no bullshit. That’s worth a LOT.
In the end, I got 4 offers with scholarship money and made the super tough call between Tuck and Kellogg. I don’t know how I would have survived the process without Angela’s guidance and feel lucky to be embarking on my MBA this fall with my head screwed on tight!

I have admits from INSEAD and IESE and I truly could not have stood out without sounding authentic in my application, and she made sure I did.

Thinking back six months ago, I’m convinced that hiring Angela has been a great decision and without her probably I would have not been accepted into any top MBA program. Last, but definitely not least, Angela represented my rock-solid point of reference in all stressful circumstances throughout the process. I’m considering applying for MBA in the next few years and have found YOMO to be really helpful in finding out what to expect from an MBA program and prepare yourself to make clear your career goals and get what to you want out of an MBA program. I signed on for Angela’s You Only MBA Once (YOMO) course, which turned out to be instructive, inspirational and fairly comprehensive.
YOMO was great for me, because it was fairly priced, far cheaper than a one-to-one careers advisor session and it still covered all the bases. In fact, it did a better job than a top MBA school’s careers advisor did and I later introduced the course to my other MBA friends. Those who signed on loved the course as much as I did, because it was well structured, covering the basic areas like CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and also going into areas like what you value and what you want. Every topic starts with a video and there are downloadable PDF files that provide quick guidance or document templates.
Unlike many other careers advisors, Angela urged her students to discover what we really value, what drives us, what we have been successful in and what we are good at. Her encouragement for students to be more introspective helps career explorers to really think about our next step, rather than jumping on the bandwagon and grabbing the first job that presents itself. Although I had a well thought out story to communicate during the MBA application process, I was still unsure which career I wanted to pursue. Therefore, after getting into business school, I approached Angela to help me clarify my career goals and MBA recruiting strategy. My first assignment was to fill out a document that captured my accomplishments, failures, preferences, etc. and I exhaustively completed it. I wrote a ton and provided a bunch of supporting documents from performance reviews to journal entries to personality assessments. I totally overloaded Angela with information about me and needed her to help make sense of it all and find themes. In fact, I was desperate for thoughtful feedback. I had hit a wall personally and professionally and had been searching for answers to no avail.
A few takeaways from Angela’s response.
• Her observations resonated with me and were really insightful. She saw themes and characteristics that I couldn’t articulate. Even now, I frequently reference her comments as I continue to think about my personal brand.
• She read and went through everything I sent, even the stuff I told her not to worry about; this was significant because of how much stuff I sent her. On our debriefing call, she made reference to a random and minor comment I made in one of my “exhibits.” I was pleasantly surprised by her attention to detail and thoroughness. As a marketing and branding nerd, I’ve always been fairly well in tune with how I’ve conveyed my personal brand. My resume has always been up to date, LinkedIn on point, and I’ve worked on creating value for others through my strong network. Or so I thought…
After an hour long consultation with Angela on my resume, I realized just how much work I had ahead of me. Even in that short time, Angela was able to challenge my thinking and get me to see the benefits of truly starting to break down my resume and build it back up — and as someone who is fairly headstrong, this is not an easy feat. She gave strategic advice on how to frame the resume and supported that feedback with some great tactics on how to ensure each bullet on the resume tells a story. I met Angela through the Forte Foundation’s MBA Launch program and her insights were instrumental to my success in the business school admissions process. Do you dread talking about career goals in your MBA Application process? I certainly did. I was not afraid of tests and essays, but I was terrified about talking about myself and my journey because, frankly, I didn’t have a clue how to share what I wanted to do! A lot of my fellow MBA applicants fall into this category – we have a nebulous understanding of our strengths and career dreams, and don’t know how to crystallize them into a story. Angela completely changed that for me. Unlike other consultants and advice-givers, Angela starts with YOU as the individual, and forces you to reflect very deeply about yourself. For her, the process of reflection and career mapping is central to the MBA process, and everything unfolds from there. Career mapping should also be fun – and with her, it is! I got a little emotional writing this, as I leave campus and head off to my or my internship that I dreamed of FIVE years ago!!!! Let me tell you my story.
I was in a uniquely challenging position this fall when I was recruiting. I had to take time out of school for personal reasons, so at the time I was applying for consulting internships, I had been neither in school nor working for 2 ½ years. It’s challenging for any student to prepare for consulting interviews, but I felt totally lost. I hadn’t thought about business concepts for years. The fit part seemed even harder to prepare for: how was I supposed to sound authentic and unrehearsed when talking about work experience that happened 3+ years ago. My memory was awful and all the best things from my b school essays (which I’d written 4 years prior) happened so long ago.
Even worse, I got really bad feedback from my first mocks interviews. The first current consultant I did a mock with told me I’d lost my business mindset, which made sense – I hadn’t heard words like profitability or competitors for years, let alone things like cannibalization or brand equity. A career coach at HBS told me I just didn’t have it. So I was discouraged. And decided it was worth asking Angela for help.
I’d worked with Angela four years prior when she’d helped me get into 4 top 10 business schools, including Harvard, a full-tuition scholarship at Booth, and a partial scholarship at Wharton. But more importantly, similarly to how she taught the skills I needed to network, she taught me how to interview. I learned how to sound confident and show how awesome I was without sounding cocky or showing off. She helped me with challenges like how do I talk in detail about a story from my work experience 4 years ago without sounding rehearsed? How do I talk about the last couple years I was doing nothing?

While without Angela, I would have agonized over questions like how to talk about the gap in my resume, when she told me what to do, I trusted her. I knew what to expect, since we’d worked together twice before, so I wasn’t surprised by how invested in my path Angela was. It always feels like I’m her only client and she genuinely cares about my success more than anybody but my mom. Angela is incredibly responsive and wants to see you through the whole process. After I’d gotten the offers from McKinsey and BCG and was agonizing over which to take (because of the genuine relationships I’d made with people at both firms, thanks to Angela!), she helped me refine my criteria and think of questions to ask to help me make the best decision. Thanks to her, I feel VERY confident I picked the firm that is the best fit.

As a part of Forte’s 2015 MBALaunch class, for women preparing to apply to business school, Angela is ever-present. She’s the main speaker on at least 6 webinars during the 10-month program, and covers some of the most important material: how to think about the whole MBA application process; how to determine which schools are a good fit; how to tell your story via your resume and your essays; how to communicate your career goals clearly. Angela is clearly having fun, all the while being very candid about her own experience and the mistakes she made. It’s hard not to feel like she’s on your team and rooting for you, a real solace during the long slog of applications. She provides a raft of free, awesome content on her Career Protocol blog, too! But don’t be deceived: she keeps it real, and will give it to you straight if you’re being delusional or if your resume needs some serious work. I signed up for a free 30-min consultation, and she is just the same one-on-one as she is on a webinar destined for 500 people: generous, enthusiastic, authentic, and unsparing in her constructive criticism.
The Forte program has been amazing for a number of reasons: the accountability, the support, the community of Launchers, the access to Admissions staff and insider knowledge about schools. Angela is a crucial part of the package.

I originally approached because I was planning to apply to business school, but I quickly realized there were other things I wanted to work on before I applied to business school, so I decided to hire her as my career coach first. I work in the financial services sector (of one of the largest firms) and since I started working with Angela a year and a half ago, I have been promoted (twice), sent to a leadership development class, have been and have been asked to lead a leadership development class. Angela is, without a doubt, the smartest person I know. She can quickly add value to any situation and puts a unique and easy strategy together to achieve success and this is something she is teaching me how to do. She had helped me make a plan that is consistent with my ambitions and held me accountable to that plan. She has helped me communicate better in a variety of circumstances, she helped me prepare for a speech contest (which I won) has helped me prepare for promotion type interviews and my job reviews. I have led several workshops since working with Angela and she has always prepared me well, given me clear and concise information and tips to make sure I come away presenting and performing my best. I could not have asked for a better individual to work with (she was EVERYTHING I was looking for) and I am blessed to have found Angela. I never plan to stop working with Angela for the entirety of my career and when I apply to business school next year, Angela will be there every step of the way.

I found out about Angela in 2016 through the Forté MBALaunch program – she was leading a webinar on telling your story for MBA applications. I loved the session because her advice and content were incredibly thoughtful. Ultimately, I decided to sign up for her MBA career preparation class – YOMO (You Only MBA Once). One of the aims of the class is to position pre-MBA candidates to make the most of their MBA experience by crystalizing their career goals.
I found this most helpful during my MBA application process because the YOMO program helped me to crystallize what I want from my career and articulate it incredibly well in my MBA applications, as a result I will be joining the HBS Class of 2020.
Taking a step back, I found the self-reflection and self-development exercises (which are incredibly well-designed and curated) particularly insightful in the context of the group coaching sessions. In addition, Angela was incredibly accessible and responsive to any unique questions that I had inside and outside of the group coaching sessions.
In addition to her incredible skills and insights as a coach, Angela genuinely sees each person that she coaches as an individual – she takes the time to understand who you are (help you understand who you are) so that she can effectively coach you. She is truly one of a kind among the MBA consultants!
I am excited that I will be joining YOMO again in 2018 as I focus on recruiting and telling my story to recruiters.

I am currently an MBA student at an M7 school. I worked with Angela for internship recruiting and interviewing, and with Angela’s coaching, I landed an MBA internship at Goldman Sachs for the summer!

I would highly recommend to MBA students that you work with Angela to perfect your interviewing whether you are applying for summer internships or full time positions. As a new MBA student, I figured that the Career Center at my school would be enough of a resource to help me with interviewing and coaching. However, this was not the case. It was not until my friend who previously worked with Angela suggested I reach out to her to get a more objective, personalized opinion.
It was so refreshing and nice to work with Angela, someone who was dedicated to me, doing customized interview practice who I knew had my best interests at heart. (Career Services is great, but they had their own objectives which are to appease the companies and the statistics of the school, so I didn’t necessarily trust their advice and they didn’t have much time to do 1:1 interview prep with me that I felt I needed). Career services is simply just so busy with hundreds of students, and the extra support Angela provided enabled me to succeed.
In terms of the package, the videos were super useful – they gave mean easy way to organize my thoughts and tell effective stories; even the company research video gave me a super concrete and useful place to start instead of Career services advice to “know a lot about the company.” This gave me more stress because I did not know where to begin when researching companies I was interviewing with!
Also, our hour-long sessions were always recorded, so it was easy for me to go back and listen to the advice and critiques Angela gave me.
Overall, I valued Angela’s constant, tailored, honest, but supportive feedback and moral support through the crushing and difficult process of interviews. Believe me, they can be quite disappointing…
My only regret is that I did not start working with Angela earlier! Take my advice – start working with Angela to apply to bschool and as soon as you get accepted. The real work only begins once you’re accepted. On campus recruiting is overwhelming, and it is invaluable to have someone so knowledgeable and supportive in your corner.

I’ve known Angela for years through her wide involvement with conferences and diversity events. Angela is a kind, caring, and extremely talented individual whose storytelling abilities translate well into the tailored and well-thought advice she gives her clients. I was fortunate to complete her YOMO program before matriculating to HBS. I found it to be a very helpful, introspective, and fun exercise which enabled me to enter my first year with a clear idea of what I wished to pursue both professionally and personally within my career. The community aspect was also great as I prepared to begin school. Highly recommend working with Angela!
