Here’s a secret about life post-MBA: Everybody still writes their own bios. When you read a bio written in the third person, don’t you kinda know you’re being shamed?
I’m just gonna talk to you straight. Post-MBA life is no cushier than pre-MBA life. You still have to pursue your dreams with grit and determination. You still have to manage all your own press. You still have to be responsible for your own network of mutually beneficial relationships.
That’s what it takes to succeed post-MBA. This reality dawned on me two years after my own MBA at Chicago Booth when I was working at the Boston Consulting Group. Part of my job was to coach MBAs at all the top MBA programs to clear BCG’s incredibly high bar. Here are some things I discovered in those days:
Codifying and teaching these tools to Leaders of Consequence has been my life’s work since. I’ve become a kind of scientist, reaching for new discoveries about human nature and sharing them with the world. I’m obsessed with cracking the code to more meaningful relationships, greater self-expression, and more fulfilling contribution.
In 2010, I left BCG so I could pursue this obsession fulltime and be of service to a broader range of ambitious professionals in their quest to achieve their potential and have careers that matter. And so Career Protocol was born.
My aim is to help you achieve your potential and have a more joyful life. If the MBA is a critical step on your road to that, my team and I are here to make it magical for you.
Here are some ways you can get to know me and what we do at Career Protocol:
But the achievement I’m most proud of is the team I’ve built at Career Protocol. We work 1:1 with a small handful of MBA applicants yearly and help them achieve their dreams while having more fun and being completely true to themselves.
Working with us is a little like a spa vacation and a little like a trip to Disneyland combined with tons of hard work. We relieve the MBA app stress and make it fun to build self-awareness, communication, and relationship skills while you create brilliant, successful applications to your dream schools (yes, nearly all of our clients get in).
Have a chat with us about taking on the world and your MBA applications together. I promise you’ll love it almost as much as we will.
OK you’re smart, so you’ve probably read a lot of these. Here’s how we’re the same as some admissions consultants out there: in our elite school packages, we touch every single part of your application for your target schools as many times as we need to until the finished product inspires both you and us. We bring over a decade of expertise to bear, and we do all of this on a predictable timeline. Much more interesting, though, is what makes Career Protocol different. We’re not really consultants. We’re teachers. Career Protocol is a Professional Development Firm.
We think the MBA application process is a golden opportunity to uplevel your professional profile and executive skillset BEFORE you take the leap into the MBA. So instead of simply editing your essays, we use the MBA application as a training ground for new capabilities that will last you a lifetime.
THE AUTHENTIC MBA APPLICATION PACKAGE
Think of the Authentic MBA Application Package (as we call it) as a nearly year-long course in executive-level self-awareness, communication, and relationship building skills tailored to your needs and experiences. We work with you on every aspect of the MBA application not only to maximize your chances of success but also to uplevel your executive skillset in the process. Your Career Protocol Instructor will teach you how to explore your values, tell epic stories, and build genuine relationships with your fellow humans in everything you do (yes, even when you’re just writing an MBA application!) so that you can have the impact you want to have in your career. Imagine how empowered you’ll feel the first day of class knowing that you used the whole year prior to your MBA building key leadership skills with an experienced teacher by your side.
If you want someone to edit your essays, work with friends and family. If you want to transform your ability to stand out for the rest of your career as the bright shiny unicorn* you are, work with us.
*We mean unicorn in the one-of-a-kind-unique sense, not in the instagrammy** rainbow sense. ** We do like instagrammy rainbow unicorns, tho. Especially the cupcake kind.
ONCE YOU GET INTO BUSINESS SCHOOL… The fun doesn’t stop. We’ve got…
• The Interview Hero Coaching Program • YOMO: You Only MBA Once (AKA Your Guide to Getting Your Best MBA Internship), and • How to Be the Smartest Person in the Room (AKA The Consulting Case Interview Hero Program)
These are all affordable group coaching programs to help you target and get the internship and post-MBA job you really want, while – of course – building your professional skillset every step of the way.

It was almost by accident that I stumbled upon the existence of deferred MBA programs. It was not an accident that I chose Angela to help me on my MBA application journey.
I looked into all the MBA programs that offered deferred MBAs and realized it was something that I wanted to pursue. I knew that I had a very untraditional background and on top of that, I was never the best at writing – especially when it came to writing about myself. I started the process shortly before I began my final year of undergrad and spent the first few weeks doing basic research. It was here that I first came across various admissions consultants through some of their free online resources, Career Protocol included.
As one does, I scheduled as many of those free 30 minute consultations with as many consultants as possible to get different insights and thoughts on my background and my chances at a top program. Out of all of these initial consultations, the last one I had scheduled was with Career Protocol. It was here that I met Angela for the first time and I quickly knew that I wanted to work with her throughout this process. She not only found my profile interesting and compelling (which was not the same for other consultants I spoke with) but also connected with me as a person. Going into this, I had doubts about my profile and how I could connect all the different dots in my story. Those were quickly dispelled shortly after beginning the Career Protocol process. Angela believed in me and helped me tell my story to the admissions committee and I became a better communicator in the process. Throughout my application journey, Angela was amazing to work with and for someone who always struggled with writing, she made the process as easy and enjoyable as possible.
Looking back on the process and having now been accepted to the Stanford GSB class of 2029, I can say with certainty that Angela was the best possible person to help me tell my story.
My first interaction with Angela was somewhat parasocial as I binged MBA content on YouTube in an attempt to fully understand what I was getting myself into. Out of all the content uploaded by various firms, Angela and Career Protocol stood out as being genuine, unique, and somehow able to make the process of applying to schools seem fun and exciting. The rainbows and unicorns definitely helped!
From her massive library of free content, I was hooked. I loved Angela’s approach to the application process so much that I applied to be an anonymous “Bob” on her Bob Project series on YouTube. Through this, I was able to meet Angela and interact one-on-one, going over my goals and plan to succeed in my MBA application process. Our conversation filled me with confidence not only in Angela’s vast library of knowledge but in myself and what I was capable of. Within a few weeks, I joined the Catalyst program through Career Protocol and started working with Angela and the team more directly.
In the Catalyst program it became obvious how incredibly down-to-earth Angela and the team are, and how they genuinely want to help people succeed. She empowers applicants to show up as themselves, both in the world and in their MBA applications. A lot of Angela’s philosophy is centered on understanding oneself to know what you want and the path to get there. Unlike other cookie-cutter consulting services, Angela’s approach is catered to who you are and what you want out of your MBA. She aligns that with the schools you apply to and encourages your application to reflect you.
One of my most significant experiences with Angela was when I was creating my list of schools to apply to. On review, she expressed that I had a higher chance at the schools I was considering and even encouraged me to apply to more ambitious programs. She told me that my story and what I wanted out of my MBA would go far and that I had what it took to go beyond what I had initially imagined for myself. This helped start a significant mental shift for me, acknowledging that I had already come such a long way and that being myself was good enough to get into a top program.
That’s the incredible thing about Career Protocol. They take the idea of catering your application to schools and flip it on its head. Ultimately, getting an MBA is for you, so the application should be about you, your story, and where you want that next chapter to lead. It was incredibly empowering to change that narrative and actively think about what I wanted out of the process instead of how I could best cater to a list of schools I wasn’t even sure I wanted to attend.
This way of thinking is what changed the course of my MBA journey. Despite starting with the hope of getting into a T20, I was accepted into an M7 after making a strong application that specifically reflected me. I couldn’t have done it without Angela’s support and what she has created at Career Protocol. I’m incredibly grateful to have found Angela’s fun, colorful take on what the MBA application process can be and for teasing out the best version of my applications.
I’ve loved my experience so much that I’m continuing to work with Angela and Career Protocol throughout my time at school in their YOMO program. I truly believe that their process of making informed decisions for your future by looking inward works, and I highly recommend them to anyone interested in pursuing an MBA or trying to find happiness in their career. Finding Angela’s content on YouTube genuinely changed the course of my life for the better.
I was weighing between Career Protocol (“CP”) and another big-name MBA consulting firm. I ended up going with the other MBA consulting firm because I had a misconception that CP’s brand of kindness would somehow result in less “tough” and honest feedback.
I was so disappointed with the other MBA consulting firm as after paying five figures, four months passed, and I had received only one 40-minute call in spite of my many email requests to connect for more. Luckily, CP’s MBA Catalyst program reversed and saved my very soured MBA process.
CP’s resume process is worth the entire price point of the MBA catalyst program (and you get much more than just that!). CP had a methodical coaching style which gave you the tools to make each bullet ubiquitously relatable to a range of audiences, while preserving specificity. However, the real power of the CP MBA Catalyst program is it leverages the power of community (other MBA applicants). Imagine if you could find a consultant that gives you 1-1 advice while also creating a way less toxic reddit for you to have all your last minute “silly” questions answered, that is CP.
CP on a whole never gate keeps knowledge to maintain a false competitive edge within an increasingly oversaturated MBA consultant market. This is because CP’s real value-add is an impenetrable understanding on how to unlock anyone’s story and make it marketable through accentuating your uniqueness in a style that resonates with all.
CP prioritizes marketing YOU because they care, rather than many other consulting firms which market themselves to ultimately increase their profit. Therefore, given MBA consulting is an extremely amorphous profession, I implore everyone to put a premium on the character and quality of the consultants they are running diligence on, over “credentials / pedigree”. Worth noting CP has both.
In the end, it is the intrinsic motivation of the consultant to help others, that will ensure that you as the client, receive robust help that is not riddled with short cuts as there is ultimately no consequence for a consulting firm to disappear or give you lazy “advice” once you ultimately wire them your lump sum. Angela and her team are beyond qualified in both pedigree and character. Their product is the result of years of compounding observations of what applicants need. Therefore, being a part of CP is like having a question answered every single day, that you did not even realize you had.
However, CP never rests on their laurels, they are always constantly innovating to stay above the curve and through all of their focused innovative growth centered around ultimately better serving the client, they maintain an unshakeable value of radical kindness that permeates through out every single program of theirs and every interaction.
I made a major misjudgment when I realized that Career Protocol’s “kindness” does not equate in false coddling, but means they invest more into seeing the nuanced difficult feedback you need to hear AND figuring out a clear yet respectful way to communicate it to you.
The greatest gift CP gives you are the tools to break your stale self-image through exposing you to see how your unique strengths translate into value-added leadership potential, i.e., why you are a great business school candidate.
You will not regret going with this consulting firm because they provide you with way more than just a strong MBA application, they offer you growth you never anticipated and a community to cheer you on during your journey.
As someone with a “non-traditional” background (ie. films and education), navigating the MBA application process seemed daunting. Angela was foundational in helping me identify and reflect on my unique strengths, providing clear insight into what I could contribute to an MBA program. This ultimately made me feel more confident in the process. I’m excited to share that I’ll be attending Wharton this upcoming fall of 2024! The MBA application journey is full of rejections and acceptances, unexpected twists and turns–a constant process of reflection. The support, wisdom, and opportunity for self-reflection provided by Angela left me feeling proud and satisfied with my efforts and my application as a whole–regardless of the outcome. Thank you!
Where to even start!! Angela is just the greatest beyond what words can even describe.
When I decided to apply to MBA programs, my biggest fear was working with a consultant who would add stress to an already stressful process and who would push me to write about topics that weren’t authentically me. Working with Angela could not have been more opposite of this. She came recommended by a friend, and as soon as I met with her I knew that she was the partner I needed in this process.
Angela just got me. She spent so much time upfront getting to know me, my story and my goals to the point that when we started brainstorming essays, her suggestions were genius and resonated with me every time. Her feedback was honest and constructive and she always pushed me to dig deeper where she thought I could. Angela really helped me gain confidence in myself through this process. When I submitted, I was proud that what I wrote was authentically me.
I got interviews at every school I applied to (Stanford, HBS and Wharton) and am beyond excited to be attending Stanford in the fall. Thank you, Angela, for investing in me and believing in me. YOU ARE THE BEST!
Give yourself permission to live your life out loud! Angela is a master communicator, a gift that only develops after years of understanding and helping others understand what connects us all, our humanity. I genuinely enjoyed the entire process of applying to my dream school. I’ve transformed myself and have never been more excited about my career, who I’ll meet along the way, and what light I’ll be bringing to the healthcare industry. This is your sign to take the leap!
Working with Angela at Career Protocol was an absolute game-changer for my MBA application journey. The step-by-step guides and application checklist provided a solid framework that boosted my confidence in time management and preparation. Angela’s live sessions and office hours were invaluable, offering crucial support whenever I felt stuck and enabling me to gain diverse perspectives. The self-discovery questions she facilitated were instrumental in clarifying my ‘why’ and laying the groundwork for my entire application process.
Thanks to Angela’s guidance, I not only gained acceptance into my dream school, Texas McCombs MBA Program, but also secured a top scholarship despite my initially ‘weak’ test score. Her commitment to aligning with my aspirations, as opposed to pushing for other schools (like other consultants I explored), was truly refreshing. Being part of the Bob program also allowed me the unique opportunity to connect with Angela personally at a BBQ hosted by the CEO, further solidifying her status as a gold standard consultant!
After hearing about my friend’s experience working with Angela, I knew she was the clear choice – the last thing I wanted to do was be on the other side of the process and think about “what could have been.” Said differently, this was my one shot at applying and I didn’t want to regret not going with the best option I had, especially considering how all-consuming the MBA application process can be. I’m so thankful to have gone through the unique self-discovery of it all, which was made possible by Angela/the Career Protocol method, as it has given me so much more confidence in myself and clarified my personal definition of a meaningful life. The process was by no means a walk in the park, but I could tell that Angela was genuinely invested in my growth and pushed me to really dig deep. All thanks to Angela’s guidance, each of the final applications I submitted crafted a cohesive narrative that was brutally honest yet showcased my biggest strengths. I applied to Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, and Booth, and I got interviews at all of them. Eventually, I got accepted at both Wharton and Booth, and got waitlisted at Stanford. I even got a 75% scholarship at Booth despite my background as an Indian male in finance. Now that I’m on the other end of the process, it makes me so happy to know how proud I am of the stories told in my essays – I know I’m going to keep all my essays to reflect on long into the future.
TL;DR Angela is an absolute legend. Working with her felt like someone was looking into my soul with a magnifying glass and teasing out elements of my story that I hadn’t fully appreciated myself.
In my opinion, the top 3 characteristics that an applicant should look for in a consultant are: (1) someone who gives very candid feedback, (2) someone who has the ability to not only extract your unique story, but also bring out your unique voice in the storytelling, and (3) a trusted, end-to-end, holistic advisor that is with you every step of the way. Angela is THE unparalleled standard on all of these aspects and more — (1) if I wrote a bad essay draft, I heard as such (in a constructive manner, of course), (2) if Angela hadn’t course-corrected my initial story idea and communication style, I don’t think I would’ve achieved the results I did, and (3) Angela not only helped ideate and construct my core story, but also advised on holistic application packaging (including the short answer sections within each application, which should not be overlooked), as well as interview and waitlist guidance. Throughout the process, she was my biggest cheerleader and made a typically stressful period fun — I felt at ease at all times knowing Angela was in my corner.
The results speak for themselves. For context, I’m a South Asian male in finance who went to an Ivy League institution for undergrad and had a non-traditional path after undergrad. My undergrad academic performance was not the most ideal (3.3 GPA with an F on my transcript). Despite these circumstances, I got into Wharton ($105K scholarship) and Booth and have made it all the way to the summer waitlist at HBS. To be clear, it is quite literally unheard of for someone from my demographic and background to get $105K from an institution like Wharton. If Angela had not been in my corner, then absolutely none of these results would have been possible.
Don’t think further — hire Angela and make your life that much easier and fun.
One of the amazing things about Angela and the Career Protocol team is that they helped me whittle the many vast ideas in my brain down to concise essays that got results. Results including acceptances from 7 out of the 8 programs I applied to, with 5 of them offering me scholarships totaling $500,000. I went from worrying about not getting in anywhere to getting in virtually everywhere I applied. Acceptances included: Wharton, Booth, Kellogg, Columbia, Ross, Johnson, Fuqua.
The Career Protocol team helped me through the process end to end. I wholeheartedly recommend Angela Guido at Career Protocol.
My main comment: How do you guys do all of this??? How is the secret not out about how amazing you guys are??? I suppose I take it as a personal sense of pride that I found you guys since somehow other people don’t??? You guys made the process human.
Here are my stream of consciousness gratitude bullets about Angela: • CP Community – I really like this. It makes it feel not so transactional. Enjoyed meeting other instructors, other clients, and being a part of something greater. I love that we are all lifting each other up. • This process is stressful enough, and I really appreciate, value, and connect with the way Angela and the rest of the CP team stay grounded in what matters, focusing on the individual, etc. • I didn’t know what I was getting into but took a leap of faith. I am so glad I did. • Angela really cares. • These are good people that I trust. I have already told friends about them. • I hope they can keep the feel of this program / company over time. It’s very personalized. I don’t know how they do it. It is so impressive. A true gem in the noise of what is out there. • As a biproduct, I happened to meet several other clients that I now consider friends! CP makes sure that anyone that wants to stay anonymous can do so. It is such a supportive environment. • Their material really is top notch. I was VERY skeptical about the process, self-guided modules, and so forth. However, it was much more efficient and allowed me to come better educated and prepared to conversations… or to be able to make progress on my own. • I bought Angela’s books to have for the future too. I haven’t had a chance to read them yet, but I’m happy that I have them since they will be useful during the recruiting process. • This process revealed a lot about myself and pushed me to grow. I didn’t know how hard it would be. I also did not know how much I would get out of it with them. Truly 10/10. • Most admissions consultants’ sites have a stuffy formal feeling. CP’s site may throw you off since it is the complete opposite with color, animations, unicorns, etc. I think we could all use more humor, silliness, and joy in life. Why take ourselves so seriously? They are that good that they can really be themselves. And I think this is a positive thing. My gut was right • I’ll never forget when I committed – Angela emailed me while I was out for a run. I checked my email, and she said a spot opened up with her. I stood there for a second and thought, this is one of those life moments and a sign. Let’s do it!! • It is expensive, but you really do get the value from it. I know I would not have been able to complete as many applications, the quality of applications, etc. that I did. The scholarship money I was offered was unreal. While it cannot be expected, that alone covers the cost of the services. • The messaging is loud and clear and effective. Focusing on human connection, relationships, what brings you joy, telling great stories, being vulnerable, making a friend. • They really listened to me. Built trust.
Thank you thank you thank you for trying something new and tag teaming with Brian for me. Thanks for staying with me through my quirks (over communicating and then radio silence after acceptances – Angela haha).
Thank you both for taking a chance on me. Brian, I really cannot thank you enough for your thoughtfulness, wisdom, kindness, empathy, enthusiasm, and downright hard work. You really went above and beyond for me when I know you didn’t have to.
Angela – you helped play mastermind. Helping think through stories, structures for essays, schools to apply to, etc. THANK YOU! Thanks for keeping it real with me.
I cannot help starting this review with a HUGE thank you to Angela Guido! Not only she’s the most hard-working, passionate consultant but she also fuels her candidates with strong positive energy.
Now onto the juice. If you are considering whether Angela is worth the investment, let me tell you something: she’s gonna be your MOST WORTH investment for business school applications!
Her unique approach will let you deeply look into yourself and explore your most inner motivations to become a leader. She followed both me and my partner through each step of our applications, always providing exceptionally constructive feedback. I especially appreciated how she differentiated her approach with me vs with my partner.
You’ve probably already figured the result: we both made it into our top choice MBA at HBS!
I had the fortunate opportunity to work with Angela during my MBA Round 2 for full-time Fall ’23. At the beginning, I had a lot of doubts about my profile and whether I could get into a top 15 school. I was worried about my undergraduate GPA (3.17/4), my relatively lower than average GMAT score (680), and my atypical background (non-diverse male in real estate construction finance). But choosing to work with Angela was, no doubt, the best decision I made. From the get-go, I was blown away by how obvious it was to her on how to counteract my weak stats by leveraging my ‘great, collaborative, and fun’ (her words) personality and my unique career experiences as my strengths within my application. She always had complete faith that these strengths are exactly what will help me successfully cross the finish line. Not only that, she gave me the tools to juggle and manage around 8 different applications, and submit each application with full confidence that it showed my best abilities and life stories.
Angela is a MASTER at helping people embrace their own stories and express them effectively. She understands how important it is to stand out among thousands of other applicants, focusing on what made me unique rather than just telling the AdCom what they wanted to hear. Surprisingly, I ended up using many life stories in my applications that I initially thought were irrelevant, but they turned out to be pivotal moments that perfectly showcased who I am and what I’m all about.
She’s brutally honest and it’s BEAUTIFUL. It is exactly what I needed during the process. She knows when to say no and offers alternative perspectives and solutions. It was confusing at times and even overwhelming to go against some information that I would find in online forums, Reddit, and speaking with other applicants, but putting full trust in her quirky and exciting process is what led to my success.
When I initially applied to 5 schools and found out that I was waitlisted at 4 of my top choices. Angela sensed the urgency and immediately helped me prioritize a game plan to stand out and get off the waitlist. Right away, she told me the hard truth of being on the waitlist and also told me something that I didn’t want to hear, which was to take the GRE instead of the GMAT. Looking back, this was the best advice and just one example of how strategic she is in her approach. She also pushed me to get creative with a video response that a school requested while I was on the waitlist, rather than taking the boring path. Thanks to all her efforts, dedication, and vast knowledge, I got accepted into 3 schools (still counting) and ultimately my top choice, Booth.
Overall, Angela is an amazing ROCKSTAR and a genius, enthusiastic person who brought out the best of my stories and I’ve learned a lifelong skill of creative self-advocacy. If you want to succeed in your MBA aspirations, I highly recommend working with Angela and her team at Career Protocol!
This is my second year applying for MBAs. In 2021 I applied to MIT, Wharton, Harvard and Stanford with the help of another admissions consultant. I was interviewed by HBS and Wharton and got admitted to none. I felt that my applications were superficial and did not reflect my true self, and contained what I thought schools wanted to see.
Last year (2022) I had Angela’s help to reflect and understand my personal stories and values during the application process, this completely changed the application experience. Moreover, my self-discoveries during this journey will greatly impact decisions in my personal life and career over many years to come. This second time, I applied to Harvard, Stanford, Wharton/Lauder, MIT, Booth, Kellogg and Berkeley. I landed interviews at Stanford, Wharton, Booth, Kellogg and Berkeley. Angela’s interview preparation was invaluable and contributed to my admissions at Booth (with a USD 40k merit scholarship), Kellogg, Berkeley and a waitlist spot at Wharton / Lauder.
Finally, I am so supportive of Angela’s and Career Protocol’s work that I have sponsored their services for a dear friend, Ronaldo, from an underprivileged background with aspirations to change education in Brazil. With Career Protocol’s help, he was admitted at MPAs / MPP both at Columbia and the University of Chicago, both of them with extremely generous scholarships.
Preparing for my MBA interview, I searched for the best service out there, and after all, choosing Career Protocol was the best decision ever for me. Career Protocol offers “Career Protocl Academy” where you can choose various topics of training programs to take. Along with the Mock interview sessions, I also chose “The Interview Hero Training Program” and the contents were so well constructed with a high quality, providing step by step videos, instructions and helpful workbooks and checklists truly enabled me to brainstorm who I am and what I’ve accomplished in and out of profesison. I really felt they know what they do and truly offers authentic, high quality, well constructed contents to assist MBA applicants as well as job applicants to prep their important interview!
I had the privilege of working with Angela Guido for the MBA R1 application process. For me, this was the second go around after working with a different consultant and candidly it was a night-and-day difference in terms of (1) depth, (2) story articulation, and (3) personal support. Angela challenged me to look within myself in ways that I hadn’t done before. As someone who was on the fence about business school, this was focused on really thinking critically about why I wanted to go to business school and what my personal narrative was. Despite having gone through this process before, I found myself re-evaluating critical life events through a different lens and crafting my own personal story in a much more authentic way. Whereas at times I felt like I was just going through a set process with the prior consultant, I always felt championed by Angela throughout in a personalized approach. Angela isn’t afraid to give tough love criticism, but it’s because she wants you to unlock your inner potential…like Tina Fey’s character from Mean Girls – she pushes people. Although it didn’t end in the outcome I had hoped for (not admitted to schools of choice), after working with Angela, I have no regrets. I developed a stronger sense of self, both professionally and personally, and have been able to utilize the “storytelling” skills learned from Angela in other aspects of my life. The clarity and development I received were worth the experience and I’d easily sign up to work with Angela again, even knowing the outcome. I would wholeheartedly recommend Angela to anyone considering an MBA – she is truly an invaluable life coach.
Let me start with the end. I got into HBS, my top school. I would totally recommend her.
A bit about myself, I am currently working in VC, and before I was a management consultant at MBB. I had already applied to Harvard twice, once for college and once for the 2+2, and got dinged twice.
This time I decided to go for the best consultant I could find online based on reviews and personal experiences of friends.
Angela has a truly unique approach for several reasons. She takes a holistic approach to getting to know you, or better “getting you to know yourself”. Once you have laid out all the aspects of your personality, your background, your dreams, and your achievements, she helps you write your story using advanced story-telling techniques.
Angela does not write your essays. This is another major difference from what you might expect from your consultant. I don’t think she wrote a single line. She helps you put your thoughts together, connecting the dots and turning them into a story, giving comments, feedback, and nudging ideas. In the end, the story is 100% yours – and you can take the merit of everything.
Looking back at the application process, I can confidently say that I enjoyed working with Angela. I did not only get into HBS, but I also got to know myself better.
I spoke to Angela when I was waitlisted at Stanford for round 3. She went through my application and gave me honest feedback that helped me ace my application next round.
For my Wharton TBD, Angela helped me find my best self in a team setting. Angela and her team’s review helped me put my best self forward.
Angela is the best, kind-hearted person who is talented enough to take your application to the next level. If you are trying for the top 10, she will make you eligible for M7 and if you are trying for M7, you have a great chance for HSW. For me, she took my application from the top ten to the HSW level. I’m very grateful to her.
I worked with Angela Guido at Career Protocol and it was without a doubt the best decision I could make for this very demanding process of application.
My process of application had to get off to a quick start because I started the application process late in the game and I did not have the option to postpone my MBA to the 2023-2025 program. Because of the short amount of time, I had to apply, prepare the applications, and prepare the standardized tests; I was looking for an advisor that would give me the work cut up and ready to eat. This was the idea until I had a one-on-one call with Angela from Career Protocol and I reviewed the internet page. I realized that working with Angela was going to be a hands-on experience and that she was only going to be my guide. Of course, it turned out to be a lot more work but it was completely worth it, I developed skills I wouldn’t have any other way.
The Career Protocol approach to the application process is through a very explicit online platform with videos and seminars that teach you how to be a good storyteller, as well as one on one videoconferences with your advisor where they guide you to find the best way to tell your unique story. The online platform has different modules (each module contains different activities, videos, and articles) that go from resources on universities, clubs, interview preparation, essay preparation, etc. but without the doubt, the most valuable resources are on storytelling.
Storytelling is an ability that has helped me in everyday activities, from getting to know people and telling them my life story to presenting projects to investors in the Real Estate Development company where I currently work. I say this from current experience, there is a method, and Career Protocol has done a lot of study behind good storytelling. I was used to presenting projects and stories in the way they were structured in my head. But, developing the ability to tell stories properly showed me there is an order of events, a timeline, a proper length, and other factors that I must consider in order for people to perceive what I really want them to perceive, for them to remain interested and convinced and most importantly, for them to trust me.
Having said the above I want to conclude that if I had gone with someone that would have chopped up all the work and given it to me ready to eat, I would have finished without doing a lot of work myself but I would not have had as much fun and learned as many valuable lessons about myself and abilities that I will carry through all my professional and personal life.
Working with Angela at Career Protocol was wonderful but I would like to share a specific situation and the main reason why I am submitting this recommendation as I said before I only had a couple of months to prepare my application and prepare my GRE test (which I had never taken) and I was only applying to only the best programs in the world. Everything was going great and suddenly I started feeling overwhelmed because of the time and I sent a panic attack email to Angela. She answered the email saying that if it was necessary, she wouldn’t sleep, but that I would end up with killer applications (of course done entirely by me). Career Protocol made me feel safe and confident about my applications.
I believe it is also important to share that I had a very low GRE and still got accepted to a Top Program.
Honestly, I sought Angela’s help because I knew I didn’t know a whole lot about B-School applications, coming from a career in the Navy. I knew I needed help because I didn’t know where to start. I found Angela through MBAmo, and boy, did she turn my preconceived notions upside down! I reached out to other consultants, and they literally wanted to know only numbers before they would even agree to work with me, and many told me they would not help me with an M7 with my stats. Angela asked me one thing: do you want to make the world a better place? And she only promised me one thing: I am going to help you figure out how to tell your story. She didn’t promise me the answers, or tell me what to write that would get me in; she simply told me that she would help me do some discernment to distill my story and then apply it to the difference I want to make in the world. Turns out, that helped me in more ways than one. Not only was I eventually admitted to Stanford GSB, but I came out of the process much more confident in myself and who I am. While transitioning out of the Navy, I was full of doubts about if I was even making the right decision to leave for business school. Angela’s process was almost like therapy to help me gain that confidence back and use it to define the impact I want to have on the world. The cherry on top is that I am heading to my number one choice school, Stanford GSB, to continue this journey!
Angela is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met.
The first time I joined one of her webinars was during the MBA Launch program of the Forte Foundation. Everything she told us immediately resonated with me. Her way of speaking to us and telling her story was unique; I could feel her passion for her job and her genuine care for us, future MBA students. After each webinar, I always felt invincible, full of positivity, inspired… ready to rock that MBA application process! So, when I realized I needed the help of a consultant, I did not have any doubt!
While working on my resume and essays with Brian at Career Protocol, I also was trying to figure out what I wanted to do post-MBA. Coming from a non-traditional background, I felt lost in the thousand opportunities. At that moment, Angela’s help was like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. In a short meeting, after listening to my ideas and concerns and looking at the results of my MBTI test, she told me what would bring me joy in the workplace and which path to take to get there. Of course, I had to research and dive deeper on my own; however, everything she told me resonated with me and gave me tremendous help to narrow and define my career path.
Even right now that I am getting ready to start one of the top 10 MBA programs in the country, when I feel lost, I still often refer to that conversation with Angela. Thanks to her, I know what is important to me, which helps me stay on track and focused on my goals. I feel lucky and grateful for the precious tips she gave me, and I am sure I will go back to them during my entire career.
Angela is an absolute STAR and I could not recommend her more!
After working with her to prepare my MBA applications, I got into 4 of the top MBA programs in the world and accepted an offer from Wharton with a 120K scholarship.
Angela is a special type of MBA consultant because she really takes the time to get to know you as an individual, what you’ve been through, what you’re passionate about, and what sets you apart from other candidates. I was astonished at how perceptive she was and how she was able to get to know me better than some of my closest friends and sometimes even better than I knew myself. She then uses that knowledge to help you mold your applications to fit each school, all while remaining true to the essence of who you are. I know I would have never gotten into the schools I did without her help but I’m also proud to say that my applications always remained 100% authentic to me.
I would recommend Angela without hesitation to anyone looking for MBA or career counseling services (I’ve actually already recommended her for career counseling to three of my friends and they too have only good things to say about her. She even helped one of my best friends get her dream promotion).
Also, if you’re concerned about the price tag, please keep in mind that working with Angela will put you in a better position to get scholarships which often will be for a value way more than what you pay Angela. I went with her 3+3 school package and the scholarship I received was for 8 times what I paid Angela! Needless to say, the ROI was beyond worth it.
After a very rough application process with another firm, I landed interviews with Wharton and Harvard but I really did not know how to tackle them.
After reading her book, I sought her help with interview preparation. She not only gave me the tools for a successful interview but also reviewed my entire application and helped me find out how to deal with gaps that could eventually show up during the interviews. Also, she went through the entire discovery process in order to make a very good assessment of my experience and give me assertive feedback during our mock interviews (which, by the way, are very similar to the real thing)
Unfortunately, besides feeling that I had good interviews, I did not pass. I believe I had some gaps in my application (Angela made me aware of them) that might have cost me my seat. That’s why I have decided to reapply this year with her help throughout the entire process.
Even if you do not think you need career advice or coaching, you do need Angela! Like a real-life fairy godmother, Angela is invested in your growth, she is generous with her time and her insights, and will go above and beyond to prepare you for future success – the type of success that feels good humanly, not just economically. If you watched any of the Career Protocol YouTube videos, you have met Angela and experienced her straight-forward, no nonsense style. In one-to-one career sessions, Angela will share anything and everything in the same no-fuss way to help you think through any career query that may cross your mind (from finding your purpose to which job to pick next).
I worked with Angela for career coaching while applying to business school. Angela helped me think through my career choices and aspirations through the lens of my personality (for which we used the MBTI test too), and I found our sessions incredibly enlightening. No matter your career query, Angela will prepare you to pursue the right path and reach higher while heightening your self-awareness and confidence. THANK YOU, Angela!!
When I started my MBA process, I was overwhelmed, and lost, and had 5 months total before the Round 2 deadline. I knew my dream schools were GSB, HBS, and Wharton. I had no idea how to approach the GRE, who to ask for rec letters, or what my essays should look like.
Fast forward a few months, I had three admit letters in hand from all of my top schools.
What happened in the middle? A lot of things. But the single most important decision I made was to work with Angela.
After our first call, I knew I wanted to work with her. I was originally very skeptical about working with an MBA consultant. But she knew the MBA landscape in and out, was immediately candid about my prospects, and exactly what I needed to get done by which dates to give me the best chances at going to business school. And beyond all of this, she was friendly and great to talk to, and a fantastic sounding board for all the questions I had.
We worked through so much together, but my biggest take away was surprisingly not the application that I turned in (and was proud of!). It was understanding my own career trajectory. As we talked through my goals and objectives to write about and speak about in the interviews, I also started to unearth components of my professional and personal life that I’d never really considered and held to the light.
Another thing to note was Angela’s deep understanding of MBA applications. I had read dozens of books on MBA applications and thought I understood best practices. But Angela challenged me on many of these generic assumptions. I followed her advice, though it was sometimes hard to work against what I saw in every public essay, forum, and article online. This paid off: two of the schools I was admitted to speaking specifically about how unique my essays were.
We all have unique journeys and unique futures ahead of us. But if you’re looking to show the best and most authentically compelling version of yourself to admissions committees, my only advice is to consider working with Angela and the Career Protocol team.
I would say I am a very picky person. But I am soooooooo grateful to got the chance to work with Angela through my MBA application journey.
I will start with the initial consultation I had with her. During the first consultation, she didn’t give me a feeling of selling business at all. She very objectively assessed my candidacy, pointed out my strength and weakness, encouraged me to get a higher score, and suggested I apply in Round 2 instead of rushing it in Round 1. She even referred me to a GMAT tutor to do a consultation to help with my GMAT study. After I took another GMAT test, she happily did another consultation with me, even though I hadn’t signed up with her yet. She was quite honest with me the entire time, and beyond that, she encouraged me to aim high. After the two consultations, I signed up with her.
The next thing I was impressed with was the structured system she had to guide me through the entire process. The client portal is very well-designed and has a lot of videos, articles, and instructions that guided me from the beginning of developing my personal stories to scholarship negotiation and choosing offers. She even has an entire class for job hunting after being admitted. Based on the detailed instructions, I was able to complete a very long questionnaire as the story bank and basepoint, which proved very helpful throughout the entire application journey. Before the kick-off call with Angela, she read through my 50+ pages long answers to the questionnaire very carefully, and was able to put together a 20+ page slide that summarized my life story and the game plan for the entire MBA application. She is so experienced, as such, she had a very clear customized strategy for me and a clear picture of the orders of the schools to apply to first, and also the outline of each essay.
During the essay revision process, her comments always pointed to the right point and got me to think harder, and get the better essays out. Sometimes, even if I was pretty satisfied with the essay, she really pushed me to the limit. Besides that, I left a lot of questions and comments in each draft, and she was always able to answer them. Her abundance of knowledge of each school helped me add more color to my essays. Also, she didn’t sugarcoat anything and always used her expertise to warn me about something less valuable to include in the essay. She gave me very detailed guidance with contacting my recommenders and really helped a lot as well.
Another thing I wanted to talk about is the interview prep. After taking her entire interview prep class on the portal, and doing mock interviews with her. I found myself not only ready for MBA interviews, and also equipped to prepare for future interviews for jobs. The method and the ability to discover my stories and present them in a very organized way is super valuable for the rest of my career.
Other than helping me with my MBA application, she really went above and beyond. Besides thousands of other things, the thing I am grateful for the most is that she gave me career and life advice as well. She noted that I had some problems with my working style and my thinking process, but she wanted the best for me and pointed that out. She even made suggestions about books that I could read and other ways to overcome those problems. I am super grateful that she told me that, I believe it is a life lesson for me.
All in all, I would strongly recommend Angela. She is a really great coach! Thanks to her, I was admitted to Booth, my dream school! Not only did I have a great result from my MBA application, but I also felt I leanred several very important life lessons from her!
I am an Asian male international applicant who went to college in the US and is currently working in the US on a work visa. I did my undergrad in Engineering but pivoted to management consulting after finishing school. After staying in management consulting for around 3 years, I made a transition into Business Operations at a growth stage healthcare tech start-up. I applied for MBA with 5 years of working experience because after seeing both sides of strategy and operations at both fortune 500 companies and startups, I wanted to gain additional experience around entrepreneurship and pivot into Product Management. I am interested in the digital health space and am looking to meet people with similar passions at business school.
In terms of application outcomes and stats, I had a 750 GMAT and a high 3.9 GPA, and I received admission to HBS from round 1 applications.
I worked with Angela to conduct a mock interview ahead of my HBS interview. I would highly recommend working with Angela for HBS mock interview as she is very knowledgeable about the process and gives you candid feedback on how you can improve and succeed in the actual interview. In the one-hour session, Angela started off role playing the interviewer who is strict and direct to the point with her questions to mimic a “tough” interviewer experience. It certainly put me to the test and immediately exposed a few of my underprepared areas. She took detailed notes during the mock interview, literally down to the minutes I spent on each question, to then give me a comprehensive review of my performance. She pointed out a few key areas of improvement and shared a few tips that I found super helpful. After the debrief, I felt much more comfortable facing the real HBS interview. The techniques Angela gave came in handy during the actual interview and I felt confident after the interview that I had presented myself in the best way possible.
As an international student, the MBA admission process was a black box to me. MBA consultants and GMAT classes are quite uncommon and I’d never heard of them. And even when I discovered what they did, I was sure I didn’t need one. I had a strong GMAT score and a job in an MBB, so what could they possibly add to my application? Then I met Angela.
Angela distinguishes herself from all the other MBA consultants because she truly speaks from the heart, provides candid and actionable suggestions and she really cares about others. She doesn’t try to sell out her services, but she guides you in your decision process by offering honest feedback even when you are not a client. However, guided by the belief that “I can make this on my own” I decided to prepare my applications without hiring any consultant (that stubbornness left me when in R1 I received a ding and a waitlist from my dream schools).
Given that, I would lie if I say I didn’t leverage Career Protocol help since the very first day of my MBA journey. I assessed my MBA odds through MBAmo Admission Calculator at least five times – hoping to see my dream school moving from “Moonshot” to “Match”. I attended Angela & Aziz clubhouse office hours every week (Angela helped me to navigate the MBA vs. MBA/MPP decision), watched almost all Angela’s YouTube videos (I learned how to engage via Zoom), subscribed to Career Protocol newsletter (too many tips to mention) and read twice Angela’s book Interview Hero (on how to tell great achievements while remaining humble).
When I got off the waitlist from my dream school and secured an interview, I knew I needed all the help possible and I reached out to Angela. She asked me to send over my entire application for her to read and to record a list of all questions I thought the adcom might ask. She did the same and sent me her list of potential questions in advance. During the interview, we practice the most critical questions. Angela provided punctual and comprehensive feedback, from my answers to my tone of voice, and shared a small secret to making me feel more at ease during the interview.
When I did my interview, I felt confident and used all the small tricks learned through the Interview Hero framework – in the end, I got admitted to HBS.
Career Protocol not only helped me to secure a spot in my dream school, but it also provided me great with resources to thrive in my professional career and personal life. Trust me, even if you don’t need an MBA consultant, you do need Angela.
My first trek through the MBA application cycle, I was planning to work with Angela, but after seeing so much free information online, I figured I could do it on my own. Ultimately, I was rejected without an interview at four schools ranked in the 7-12 range. As they say at Career Protocol, you really do only MBA once, so I decided if I was going to do it, I needed to do it right. Angela was gracious to welcome me back to Career Protocol and it was then that she gave me the best MBA application advice I ever received, which was to be wary of application advice from students and alumni. Many of these individuals believe they got admitted because of something, when in reality, they may have gotten in DESPITE that exact thing.
From then on, when someone at Career Protocol said jump, I said how high? If you think that’s an exaggeration, Angela once mentioned that having accomplishments within your hobbies was important, and her example was that if you run, consider training for a marathon. I owned a bicycle at the time, so in addition to writing essays all summer, I trained for and completed a 100-mile race the week before applications were due.
Angela, in addition to other incredible Career Protocol team members who were always accessible and willing to help, brought out my authentic self that I never would have uncovered alone. I am so proud of the story I was able to tell through my applications, and I genuinely did learn more about myself than I ever thought possible. As I mentioned, there are tons of resources online, but I am absolutely certain that none are as useful, impactful, or relevant as the resources at Career Protocol. The team will push you when you need to be pushed, pick you up when you need a confidence boost, and bring you back to earth when you get ahead of yourself.
On paper, I am below average on literally every metric at every school in the top 20, but because of the guidance I received at Career Protocol, I find myself with multiple offers, including one from HBS.
Working with Angela was the best financial decision I have made in years. I had already applied to a business school (had been denied) and I knew I needed guidance from someone who understood the process but also would be willing to challenge me. The process of working on essays with Angela, who is a keen storyteller, was challenging and yet rewarding.
Angela is the best editor in town and that challenges you to make sure you are telling your most authentic story. For me, telling the story of my career was extremely tough. I had spent almost eight years post-undergrad working across a span of startups, international governments, nonprofits, and a simple story arc was not capturing my evolution as a leader. Angela was patient and sharp with her analysis of each draft and we finally found the through-line in my story.
There were many times in the long MBA process that I almost gave up and Angela’s wit and rational thinking kept me in the game. For example, in July, I had bombed the GRE and had no clear story arc for my essays, and I anxiously asked will we even make round 1 deadlines in September? Angela’s response to me was keep going and you can make that decision the night before. I have to say that’s the kind of push I needed for the last two months, and we ended up applying to six programs in Round 1.
Results speak for themselves: I got into 5/6 top MBA programs and I am headed to Harvard Business School in the fall.
I really think if you are considering getting help, talk to Angela and see if she is the right fit for you. For me, she was a lifesaver in this arduous process, and I would highly recommend Angela to friends and colleagues looking to embark on the MBA journey. I think my post MBA self will thank Angela for the incredibly thoughtful career visioning and work we did together as well. I am headed into a top MBA program knowing myself deeply and knowing which opportunities will excite me in the future!
To be honest, I wasn’t even sure I needed an admissions consultant at the beginning of this process. I knew that I could do an application that reaches 80-90% of its potential, but I also knew that MBA applications are ridiculously competitive and that the margins of success are small enough that the last 10% could make a big difference, so I decided to go all-in and work with Angela. There’s no way I would’ve gotten into Wharton and LBS without her, given that I went to a no-name school and worked for no-name companies.
My favorite parts about working with Angela and CP were (1) the introspective deep dive, (2) the additional resources available, and (3) the human approach.
(1) The introspection that CP “forces” you through goes very deep, and is a key part of the process to help identify what you bring to a class. Especially for me, having a resume without any brand names, I knew this would make or break my application.
(2) There are A LOT of complementary resources available in the app they built – everything you possibly need to know about applications, resumes, interviews, scholarship negotiation, but also other lots of stuff post-acceptance, to make the most of the MBA itself. I didn’t really appreciate how much time all these resources and having Angela at the other end of an email would save me in the application process to be honest – especially when things got very busy.
(3) When you look at the Career Protocol (CP) website, you’ll realize that they’re a bit different from other admission consulting firms out there haha – a lot wackier, more human, and definitely more fun. That was a big part of why I chose to go with Angela in the end, and given that I’ll be attending Wharton, I’m really damn glad I did.
In short: Work with Angela — it’ll be the best decision you’ll make through the MBA application process. You’ll get into outstanding programs, and importantly you’ll also grow in your self-confidence.
In detail: My background was in MBB consulting in the Asia Pacific. I’d previously applied for H/S/W and wasn’t successful at even securing an interview, despite a strong GMAT and undergraduate GPA.
I was first introduced to Angela by a colleague who worked with her to gain admission to her dream MBA program.
I chose to work with her because, within our first 20-min conversation, I was shocked by how much depth she was able to cover about my candidature and potential areas to strengthen my applications — she’d clearly been thinking about my profile and application approach even before I was a client. This stood out against other admission consultants I’d spoken with.
I worked with her for 2.5 months whilst I was on a high intensity work project to craft 4 applications (including 3 reapplications) for M7 schools and to create a ‘career gameplan’, where for the first time I’d reflected on my future ambitions and goals. It almost felt like therapy when we spoke; I’d share some of my most personal stories and we’d think through how they influenced my life and vision.
When I received interviews, she prepared me robustly — an M7 interviewer commented that my ‘Why Business School?’ was ‘the most clear answer they’d heard over countless interviews’. Credit to Career Protocol’s thoughtful interview prep resources for that praise.
In the end, I was admitted with a partial scholarship to my top preference program (a program that I didn’t even receive an interview from just 10 months earlier!).
The best thing about Angela is that she’ll be your individual cheerleader: She’ll get to know you (not just as an applicant, but a friend!) and care about you over the process. Even when you’re at your worst personally — exhausted, stressed, or on edge — she’ll know what to say to keep you motivated, and help you grow in your own understanding of self (and therefore self confidence).
I’m thankful I’ve left this process with multiple M7 admissions, a high degree of self understanding and confidence, and a friend in my fantastic coach and cheerleader Angela.
Thanks, Career Protocol and Angela for an outstanding experience. Well worth the investment!
Angela will be your best partner to help make your MBA dreams come true!
I knew I wanted to work with Angela right after my first consultation call and it was a great decision for me! The first conversation I had with her felt very personal and candid, and I knew that it was the behavioral fit and the kind of relationship I was looking for in a consultant. Angela is such a positive person and she was truly my partner from start to finish. I felt that Angela really cared about me as an individual and as a friend, and was equally as invested in my goals and my success as I was. I absolutely enjoyed working with Angela and I am so grateful to have had the chance to work with her.
And Angela helped me achieve my HBS dream come true. As a reapplicant, I was worried about having to bring something drastically new to my application but Angela convinced me that I just had to tell my story in a more authentic and compelling way. Whereas I was initially focused on telling the story that I thought others wanted to hear, Angela was amazing at bringing out my voice, emotions, and helping me realize my passion and what really mattered to me, and ultimately encouraging me to tell the story that I truly wanted to tell. Most importantly, I was very proud and happy with the story I told. I am very appreciative of her for that.
Above all, Angela is more than just an MBA consultant. Angela has empowered me to become more confident with myself both personally and professionally, and helped me discover myself in ways that I had not imagined were possible. Some calls even felt like therapy sessions where I learned how to embrace my weaknesses and to come up with ways to turn my fears into strengths.
And finally, Angela was always there to cheer me up, calm me down, and boost my confidence when I was stressing out, and she was always there to provide me with harsh and honest but the most constructive feedback that I needed the most.
I wholeheartedly recommend Angela — she will be your best partner to help you achieve your MBA dream come true.
I worked with other consultants for 2+2 and Angela is by far the best. For R1 2021, I wanted to make sure I had the best consultant on my side, so I spoke with everyone on the Poets&Quants top list, and I connected best with Angela. Career Protocol lives up to its name because they not only care about your MBA application, but also help you figure out what impact you want to make on the world post-MBA. Angela and the team care deeply about your overall personal development, which includes building confidence and recognizing what makes you special. Angela really gets to know you and she strives for perfection with every essay and line in the online application form to make sure you express your best self. Her interview prep helps you not only in the MBA process but for every interview you’ll have for the rest of your life. Angela – thank you for changing my life, I couldn’t have gotten into HBS without you.
I loved working with Angela due to her holistic approach to MBA admissions. During the application process, she constantly pushes to ensure essays are succinct and tell the most effective story possible. The CP materials drive clients to a level of depth in essays and interviews that differentiate us as applicants. My appreciation for working with CP only increased over time. Not only did I secure admission to one of my top choice schools, but I now head into business school with a greater understanding of what my career goals are and what I truly care about outside of work.
I began my journey with Career Protocol after discovering Angela’s refreshingly uplifting approach to crafting individual narratives in a Forté workshop.
I applied for a spot with CP thinking I was aiming for Business School in 2021 and began the in-depth exploration necessary for any complete B School application. During this process, I discovered that I had a pre-MBA opportunity to pivot into consulting which aligned perfectly with my recently clarified career map. Angela and her team were in lockstep, pivoting with my priorities and making sure I was as prepared as possible for the many rounds of case and fit interviews that lay ahead.
To help support me in my application prep, I enrolled in a preparation program for consulting interviews that Angela developed called the Smartest Person In The Room (or SPITR). SPITR helped me evolve from a Case in Point style rote practitioner into a versatile case problem powerhouse within the month. I inhaled the course and rewatched as many of the masterclass topics as I could – designing my own problem-solving style along the way and incorporating it into partner case prep each week. I am confident that my interview performance, and ultimate McKinsey offer, was supported hugely by the strong foundation for business problem solving that I practiced through SPITR and would enthusiastically recommend SPITR to anyone serious about breaking into consulting.
The first time I hopped on a call with my Career Protocol consultant, I knew she was who I wanted to work with. Applying to Bschool was extremely daunting for me and her friendly demeanor and can-do attitude were exactly what I needed to keep me going, After I completed Career Protocol’s self-discovery exercise, I was amazed at the tidbits they were able to pick out and help me to draft a cohesive narrative around my life. While I wasn’t exactly sure of my story going in, we were able to identify my goals, key values, and decisions I’ve made in line with them. I would note this wasn’t an easy process and we came back to the drawing board several times. Since then, I’ve noticed this deeper understanding of myself has helped me gain confidence and served me in all aspects of life, not just in applying to B-school. Throughout the application process, I was grateful for the structure Career Protocol provided, in particular the curriculum on story-telling which kept me on track and making progress. Further, her essay comments always began with kind, encouraging words to keep me going, and she helped me tease out the crucial stories that best exemplified what I was looking to share. I seriously could not have asked for a better teammate in this process and I am so grateful to have been able to work with Career Protocol. And I got into top schools I would never have dreamed of!! I was admitted to my dream school, Harvard, as well as Wharton, Booth, Columbia, Tuck, and Yale with some solid scholarships. None of it would have been possible without their guidance and I am forever grateful.
Working with Angela on my MBA applications was a truly awe-inspiring adventure of self-discovery and affirmation. And a journey of advice, tough love and reflection that pushed me to do my best, and in turn find out and reaffirm what makes me, me, and more than good enough for the college admits: great at manning and captaining my own boat.
As an entrepreneur, driven, Latin woman I have rarely felt that I had someone so competent, and such an expert, unconditionally in my corner – ready to give me great, unbiased coaching while keeping the eye on the prize, and pushing me to reach far. The application process, which is both time-consuming, emotionally daunting and at times discouraging, was an exciting and joyful process next to Angela.
In the beginning, middle, and end, the ultimate takeaway was that, even if I was not admitted in the college of my dreams (and as I kept replaying whether it WAS my dream and my path or not, I admittedly kept adding complexity layers on that thought), I was coming out of the application process with a clearer understanding of myself, my life story, the value that I bring to the table professionally and what path makes me, in particular, to minute details, happy and fulfilled.
I tackled my biggest fear: unaccomplished potential – not coincidentally the top of the list of Angela’s priorities – by taking a leap of faith, except that this time I felt like I did it with supersonic goggles with a road map, strategy, timeline and a plan – given by career protocol.
To whoever believes you have something to say and do in this world but is hesitant whether an MBA journey is for you, reach out to Angela – it will change the way you see yourself and your future! Oh and yes, I DID get into my dream school: Stanford GSB
Despite a 610 GMAT, a state school background, work experience in only one company, and only applying to two programs because of my fear of being rejected everywhere, I got an acceptance from HBS and waitlisted post interview in the GSB in the most competitive MBA application year!
At my desk, I didn’t consider myself material for the institutions where I thought my goals would flourish – it made me feel sad. However, Career Protocol’s process helped me take a deep introspection of my life and my future. Angela and her team are professional big sisters and brothers who are wise, funny, and knowledgeable in how to best present yourself in your MBA applications. They are good people who care.
Angela worked with me on more than +50 essay re-writes and added +200 comments throughout +3 months in my essays. Her background as a screenwriter helped me craft my story arc across the different elements of the application. She didn’t write sentences for me or gave me a template. She even prohibited me from looking at examples! She thoughtfully guided me to realize the highlights of my life and how to best express them in each part of my application. Even my passion to create the perfect Pisco Sour was included as a small line in my resume. I got questioned by both interviewers in the GSB and HBS about it. Angela knows exactly what detail to add where. She even worked with me in tiny job description boxes that perhaps other consultants don’t consider. There wasn’t a detail that Angela didn’t help me craft.
The essays that I ended up writing and my application inspire me. This is the most important. I’m also happy they inspired the Adcom! In addition, my post-MBA goals have multiplied in ambition and impact. The interview skills I’ve gained in Career Protocol’s program have already opened many doors and I’m no longer nervous. Working with Career Protocol I feel that I did not only create an MBA application but also embarked on a journey towards my dreams. I’m eternally grateful to them!
I was extremely hesitant about working with a consultant, but ultimately am so glad I chose to work with Angela. I had decent stats that were on par with the schools I was applying to, but I work for a big consultancy from which hundreds of applicants apply each year, so I was worried about being able to tell a unique and compelling story about why I was a good fit for schools. Angela worked with me to comprehensively understand my background and what made me tick. She also helped me clarify what I was looking to get out of business school, and worked with me to put together an application I could feel really proud of. Our work together not only aided me to get into 100% of the schools I applied to (all with scholarship offers) but helped me reframe my past career experience and think more clearly about how I want the future of my career to look. Even if I hadn’t gotten into all the schools I applied to, the process still would have been helpful in thinking through my career goals and getting all the interview and storytelling advice. Career Protocol offers a curriculum that helped me refine all parts of my application and I felt great about how I learned to talk about my career experience, which I expect will pay dividends far beyond just business school applications.
TLDR: Go With Career Protocol. Sure, read all the reviews and do all the consultant calls you want. Whatever you do, just pick Career Protocol. I am a woman in tech working 90 hours per week, stubborn AF, and only wanted to apply to 2 schools: GSB and HBS, no backups. Angela helped me make that happen. Last week I paid the deposit to become a member of the HBS class of 2023. Angela, her team, and her curriculum give you FAR more bang for your buck than imaginable. Read on. I was hesitant to hire an MBA coach. For months, I had watched every Career Protocol video Angela had posted on youtube. I attended multiple admissions info sessions each for HBS and GSB over the summer of 2020. The slogan of the admissions officers seemed to be “Don’t write what you think we want to hear.” Through months of aimless brainstorming, I had convinced myself I could do it alone and didn’t need to hire anyone for help. It felt a little like cheating. BUT after talking to other friends applying to MBA programs and realizing that I hadn’t taken the standardized test yet NOR made any progress on my applications, the self-imposed FOMO of ‘what if investing in an MBA coach is the difference between getting in and not getting in’ sent me off to the races reading reviews of consultants and setting up ‘free intro calls’ with many of the top-ranked companies on P&Q. For context, I am a high-achieving woman working at a large tech company, not a typical consultant or IB or PE applicant, working 90+ hours per week. If you’re reading this and hesitant about calling yourself a high-achieving woman, don’t sell yourself short. You are probably high achieving. But back to my story. My priorities were largely finding a coach who would make the process enjoyable, who would put up with me wanting to do things my own way, and who would give me the tough love I (often) need in moments of stubbornness. Every consulting agency intro call got straight to business. They reviewed my profile, said nice things, and talked about how many former admissions officers they had employed on their staff. They told me what they thought I wanted to hear– that I was a good fit for my choice schools and that they would help minimize any weaknesses in my candidacy. But my intro call with Angela was different. It wasn’t just business. There was laughter. We were both a little bit goofy. She talked to me like a human being and about their approach being centered around human growth. She was exactly what I was looking for—and THAT is the magic behind Angela Guido and her sorcery at Career Protocol. I was confident I wouldn’t need much help in the self-knowledge part of applying because – as I told Angela in our intro call– I tend to be very self-aware. Almost too self-aware. And yet, like every other review states about working with Angela, I was blown out of the water after Angela and I met for our first Discovery Call. As it turned out, the self-awareness I had proclaimed – among stellar career achievements that I hadn’t even realized were indeed stellar – turned out to be an indicator that I have high functioning Autism, which is commonly missed in women but was pinpointed by Angela during the discovery process. Looking back, I can confidently say that I wouldn’t have survived the application process without her. The application process was hard. Really hard. Angela was fearless in digging in, giving deep feedback, and telling me when something wasn’t working and why. I had to start over from scratch multiple times, which was confidence-blowing and embarrassing. It felt like it shouldn’t be that hard to write a few hundred words about who I was, what my principles are, and what I envision for the future. HA! It is hard. But Angela is a master of encouragement and training – and after tens of iterations, I ended up with so much more than two stellar applications. Working with Angela sharpened my ability to articulate both my essence and my experiences, built a toolkit of ACTIONABLE and SUSTAINABLE frameworks for goal-setting and network-building for before, during, and after MBA, and most importantly, taught me to be more empathetic with myself. If someone had told me I would emerge from the application process a more confident, joyful, proud person – AND an HBS admit – AND that my daily life would improve by 5X because of Career Protocol – I wouldn’t have believed it. But it’s true. All thanks to Angela. I couldn’t have done it without her. She changed my life. GWCP.
Yes, I got into HBS. Yes, I had the privilege to choose from a handful of M7 schools. And no, I don’t have some crazy stats going on. I just had a very compelling story on why I wanted to go to business school, which Angela helped me navigate through the years.
I met Angela back in 2018 when I was considering applying to Business School but I wasn’t sure it was the right path for me. There were still many things I wanted to do before going to business school, but I was afraid I’d be too old by then (you hear all these crazy stats about people (especially women) going into business school super young and I thought I needed to be a certain age to get in). Sounds crazy now, I know. Angela invested in my development before I was even a client of hers. She became my go-to person to test different career paths and encouraged me to take risks.
We stayed connected all throughout and in 2020, with a global pandemic just starting, and MBA program uncertainty, at its peak, I decided to work with Angela. I interviewed other consultants, offering packages for 1/2 or 1/3 of what Angela offered. I have friends who went with them, so I saw first hand the difference in experience.
I applied to 6 schools, took the GRE from home (19 days before submitting my application), and was running a due diligence project (the most brutal kind that exists) at the same time. It was a mess. But without Angela it would have been impossible for me to navigate this whole process. Because you’re going to doubt yourself. You’re going to think that you’re not good enough, and there will be moments in which you think you should just give up. But Angela won’t let you. She will remind you how amazing you are, how much you have achieved, and how giving up is not an option.
Yes. I got into HBS. But that’s not why I’d choose Angela again. I would choose her again because I grew as a person, as a professional, as a friend, and as a partner.
I am an incoming Class of 2023 and have worked with Angela in the past application cycle. Whenever I look back at my experiences of working with Angela over the past few months, I can only summarize them into one sentence: “Absolutely worth every penny!!”
A quick overview about my background: I am a native speaker of Chinese, finished my undergraduate in the U.S., and had around 3.5 years of working experience in one of the Big Four. GMAT and GPA are both around average. Nothing extremely unique from my prior experiences, either.
I started to look for an MBA consultant around February, and Angela was recommended by one of my friends. I had talked to 6-7 different consultants before Angela but never really felt the “click” with any of those. I was quite clear about what I needed – someone who REALLY knows me and trusts me on this whole process. I didn’t want to work with someone who has no faith in me – applying to MBA is super stressful, why do I need to add extra pressure on my shoulder by working with someone who doesn’t trust me???
During our first conversation, Angela, unlike all the other consultants that I had talked to, went beyond just my numbers on paper (i.e., GMAT, GPA, undergrad, job title, etc.) and focused more on the “invisible” things about me. I could feel that she genuinely wanted to know me as a human being and try to help me, even though I never promised her anything during that first meeting. Just 10-15 minutes into our conversation, Angela was already able to put together a decent picture about me and tell me how to best position myself. That was mind-blowing!! While the other consultants could only tell me “Top XXX is your goal” in the first conversation, Angela was already helping me brainstorm my MBA stories.
Working with Angela was painless. The Discovery session was magical – it made my school selection and storyboarding SOOOOO easy. I was asked to fill out a 15-pager with questions around my values and my life experiences, and then Angela turned my input into a PPT deck filled with extremely nuanced insights all about my personality and uniqueness. Then, we had a deep-dive conversation, during which I almost felt like I got to know a brand new “me”. I started to realize some hidden qualities that I may not had noticed before but that have been impacting my daily life in every single way. With this Discovery process and brainstorming sessions done in a proper way, the essay-drafting was just a piece of cake. Angela did not word-edit my essays, but she provided comments that helped bring my stories up to the next level. In fact, sometimes she might just leave one or two comments, but those one or two comments literally took me the whole day to address. I think it shows how insightful Angela’s comments were. I also like the fact that Angela did not word-edit my essays, because I did not want my voice to be taken away.
After the essay-drafting part, the interview-prep was another amazing experience. The Interview Hero course slides interviews (not just the MBA interviews, but any type of interviews) into various different pieces. By learning and practicing under a systematic framework, you would not go wrong again in any interviews. And yes, the skills that I picked up from Interview Hero would definitely be applicable to my future interviews. The magical thing about the course is that it helped me present my authentic and best self. And by being myself, I felt more powerful than ever when talking to strangers.
I ended up getting an offer from an M7 with $$ and being waitlisted by another M7. Angela has continued to support me throughout the waitlist process and we will see how this will turn out!! Regardless of the final result, I cannot thank Angela enough for what she has done for me. Not only did I earn the MBA opportunity that I had been dreaming of, but also I made a trustworthy friend, developed tons of practical skills, and most importantly, established the self-confidence that I never had.
I knew I wanted to work with Angela as soon as I met her during our introductory phone call – her genuine interest in my background and aspirations, her charisma and enthusiasm, and her evident expertise in the MBA application process were palpable (even over the phone). One of Angela’s strengths is her ability to identify key themes and strengths (and weaknesses) in an applicant’s pre-MBA career and experiences, and highlight connections across experiences that may not be obvious at first. She helped me draw out themes and learnings I had never paused to consider before. In fact, through the process of putting together my MBA application, I gained perspective on my goals and skills that will influence how I approach my career and relationships far beyond grad school.
Angela strikes a great balance between supportive and critical – she provides clear, direct feedback on ideas and application materials, and engages you in reflective, introspective conversation to ensure that your stories are representative and compelling. I found that Angela went above and beyond to turn drafts around in hours when I was in a time crunch and discuss ideas over the phone; she even encouraged me to join in a mock group interview for a school that was outside the scope of the package I had signed up to work with her on.
Through working with Angela, I submitted an application that I truly felt represented my personality, achievements, and MBA aspirations in an articulate way. I am planning to attend HBS this Fall, and I couldn’t have done it without her support and advice. I truly couldn’t recommend a consultant more than Angela – she helped me gain admission to my dream grad school, pushed me to develop a clearer perspective on my long-term career goals (that I have found beneficial even in the past couple of months), and made the experience lively, engaging, and gratifying.
My MBA application journey is rather the long one. I have been working on getting into an MBA program for the past 5 years. In 2016, after months of diligent research, I found the consultant I decided to work with: Angela Guido. Based on feedback and reviews, I somehow felt comfortable that she will be able to help me. Unfortunately, the company that she worked for back then refused to guarantee that if I subscribe to one of the company’s admission packages, I will be assigned to Angela. After this unsuccessful attempt, I decided to work by myself mostly because I was not comfortable with the idea of sharing certain details of my life and career with the randomly assigned consultant. Starting from 2018, I applied to several top MBA programs and was denied without an interview in all of them.
I have a complex career and life experience and putting together an application that touches every aspect of my candidacy was really challenging. Consistent failures forced me to look for help again. For the 2020 application cycle, I again searched for Angela to see if she is accessible or changed the company. After learning that she actually founded her own company, Career Protocol, without any further thought I took advantage of the free consultation with her, and right at the end of our conversation, I was already decided to work with her. Her approach, analysis, and advice regarding my profile reassured me that I was not mistaken that Angela would be the right person who would help me to present the best of myself to the schools.
In the beginning, I thought we are going to right away start working on school essays. But instead, Angela spent more than a month getting to know me: I responded to an extensive questionnaire, had several calls, wrote biographical essays, and discussed in-depth every aspect of my life and career. This process didn’t just assist her to know me, it also really helped me to understand in-depth who I am. It is a totally different experience to lay out the details of your past and experiences associated with them while also figuring out how these experiences affected me and my life. This process really cleared the idea of why I want an MBA and what I am going to do with it. As you may know, this statement is required to address in every single application essay either openly or discreetly. The moment that I realized the importance of the process, I went even beyond and shared even the most personal aspects of my life and goals. And that was the turning point. Things that I thought were ordinary and less important became the core of my story and identity. Angela immediately grabbed those aspects, went even deeper so that I understood how unique my life story was. I wasn’t aware back then but with this approach, we were apparently covering most of the essay prompts that we would have to deal with. But most important thing was to build the connection: Angela completely understood who I am and what I want, and I reached the point of putting together a profile of myself that includes my past, present, future, goals, and most importantly emotions attached to those.
I genuinely felt how much Angela believed my story. She honestly expressed her opinions and advised me on which schools I might be fit in and what to expect from the application to these programs. I strongly felt that if Angela believed my story I could make the admission committee give me a chance as well.
The essay writing process was another extraordinary journey for me. It is quite easy to miss important points while writing about yourself. I seemed to have a habit of assuming that the reader knows everything about me and especially about how I felt in a particular situation.
In the first few drafts, Angela spent a lot of time teaching me how to discreetly express my emotions, and also since she knew all the aspects of my story, in certain cases, she advised me to connect things from my experiences. I literally printed out all the comments she made in draft versions of my initial essays and made sure that learned all the reasons for those comments. In less than a month, I was able to drastically improve my writing style and ability to effectively and concisely communicate my ideas.
Together with Angela, I was able to finish my application to four schools: HBS, Stanford, Booth, and Yale. Writing the essays for HBS and Stanford was especially challenging. Make no mistake, all the top MBA programs know what they are doing when it comes to setting up the essay prompts. You have to really know yourself and your goals and how they connect with the particular school that you are applying to. When I finished my application to these schools, I was comfortable with any decision because I really believed that with the help of Angela I put together the best of myself. I also decided that even if I fail again, I would continue to work with Career Protocol and target my dream schools again in the next admission cycle.
I received an interview invitation from Booth and believe it or not without much preparation showed an amazing performance. Throughout the months, working on my story with Angela really helped me to learn effectively and fully present myself and my goals. So extra preparation was not needed when it came to the interview: I was excited, a bit nervous but also very well prepared. Finally, I received the news that I was working towards for several years: admission offer from Booth School of Business, my dream school, and program.
In the end, I cannot describe enough how much I enjoyed working with Angela and her company. MBA consultancy is a big industry, and even though our relationship had business interests in it, I never felt those interests in any stage of our cooperation. There was only one thing, telling my story in the best possible way and letting the schools decide. If you have a complex, unique, and interesting story Career Protocol will help you to brush it to the level of perfectness. The most important feeling is to know that you have done your absolute best. Getting into the program or not is just another thing that you really have no control over. But Career Protocol will make sure that you will not have doubts about yourself even if you don’t get accepted to any program because your journey doesn’t end with MBA education. In my MBA application journey, Career Protocol gained so much trust that even my dad, the head of a multimillion-dollar corporation, asked “What does Career Protocol say?” in every decisive moment. I suggest you choose Career Protocol and see what it says about you because whatever it says will benefit you lifelong.
I came across Angela’s resources shortly after being dinged following an awful interview. I knew that my biggest weakness had been storytelling and connecting with the interviewer… what’s more, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do Post-MBA. So I decided to sign up for Angela’s YOMO course, even though it’s generally aimed at people MBA candidates thinking about summer internships and post-MBA jobs.
The YOMO course helped me to dig deep and create a career vision in line with my passions and values – this helped a ton with writing my application essays. The course also came with loads of invaluable resources – from a career game plan workbook to introduction email templates. The best thing is I now have these resources handy for when I’m applying for future roles!
After submitting my MBA applications, I read “Interview Hero”. This is hands down the best interview resource I’ve come across. After reading it, I only wished I’d had it before my interview. But all is well that ends well!
Shortly after submitting my application, I was invited to interview with INSEAD, my top choice. My interviews went really well… I actually enjoyed them! And I’m really happy to say that I’ll be moving to France to pursue an MBA at INSEAD next year!
I participated in YOMO, Angela’s course to help you prepare for an MBA the summer prior to beginning. YOMO is the perfect way to prepare for your MBA. I love that the course was self-paced and that we had regular calls for us to meet and catch up. The course helps you better understand the keys to work-life success and what really makes you happy. You’ll encounter several frameworks that you can employ while recruiting and having these in mind before even beginning the process is so helpful. The course was valuable for me because, in addition to the above, it helped me realize the importance of relationship building, whether you’re recruiting or not. There are also cool guest speakers that you can listen to, and I appreciated hearing their perspectives since they also went through the process. And most importantly, you’ll spend time reflecting and better understanding your values and what you want to do, which is much easier to do before you get busy with school.
Angela is a wonderful coach. I first heard her speak at a Forte event in London a few years ago and was inspired by her unique way of thinking. A former recruiter, she truly understands how candidates can differentiate themselves to not only get the job but also to be a better connector outside of the recruiting cycle. I read her networking book while completing this course and the information in both gels so well together (I highly recommend this). I’m more confident going into the recruiting cycle because of her and YOMO – thank you, Angela!
I began my MBA journey in late 2018/early 2019 by reaching out to a handful of different consultants and setting up initial calls with them. I was less than two years out of undergrad and while I had taken the GMAT, was ill-prepared for an MBA application. A handful of the consultants I had spoken to seemed eager to get the process started and felt that I would be a strong candidate at all the schools I had the desire to go to. Angela was not one of them. Angela was candid with me, letting me know that I was not the strongest candidate that I could be if I decided to focus on my career for a bit longer, gain more experience, and take on more responsibility. I appreciated her honesty and took her advice. I postponed my MBA applications for a year and when I felt I was ready; I knew Angela would be the right consultant for me. Before I was even a client, she was focused on putting together my best possible application.
Once we began working together, Angela’s honesty was once again a big piece of why we were able to work well together. If I had a draft of an essay that was lacking depth, missing key elements, or straying off-topic, Angela had no issue telling me exactly what the issue was and challenging me to do better. I knew I could trust her feedback because she had never tried to sugarcoat anything in the past. Before working with Career Protocol, I was uncomfortable speaking about myself, but Angela challenged me to dig deep in every essay I wrote to showcase exactly what made me unique and helped differentiate myself from other candidates. This was not a skill I picked up immediately, but through months of working with Angela, I began to pick up on her way of thinking. Angela has a unique ability to take a series of facts and craft it into a story. This is a skill that I know will be valuable throughout the rest of my career and I can thank the Career Protocol team for it. I’m eager to start my MBA this fall at University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and am confident that without the help of Career Protocol I would have had a very different experience. I would highly recommend Career Protocol for anyone pursuing an MBA and hope to continue my professional relationship with the team for years to come.
I came from a lower socioeconomic status and clawed out of poverty by planning ahead and relying on my community for support. Yet, most people where I come from couldn’t tell you where Harvard is located on a map, and you’d be lucky if they had even heard of Stanford. Despite being a highly qualified deferred enrollment candidate, I didn’t have my community to help me on this one, and I was dreading going on that journey alone -at least, until I met Angela. I would love to say that I shopped around, but truth be told an HBS alum I respect referred her to me and between all the free resources on her website and the immense value she packed into our free 30-minute consultation, I was sold. I selected her 3 school package for HBS 2+2, Stanford Deferred Admission, and Booth Scholars.
I expected to face some imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and self-sabotaging humility during the process. For people like me who’ve spent their entire life being told they don’t deserve a seat at the table, those emotions are a given. I thought that would be the big hurdle I’d need Angela’s help to overcome, but Angela killed it before it could even show up. She had me start by writing the book on my life for her. I expressed everything that I thought could have possibly mattered to the experience of being me and hit send.
I will never forget the zoom call that followed. Like some sort of voodoo, she captured my essence, my story, my core values, and my character-defining moments into a PowerPoint reflection of my identity as it truly exists. She was able to articulate me -without all the lies I told myself, without all the biases of my lived experience, and without all the insecurities that kept me up at night. It left me, a burly manly man, in tears because I felt truly worthy and capable of taking on the challenge that laid ahead of me for the first time in my life.
We wrapped Stanford up quickly, but then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and my journey came to a screeching halt. I was putting in 12-hour workdays in a hastily converted linen-closet-office. I was quarantined away from my partner. I took on my parents’ financial responsibilities despite worrying about getting laid off myself. What finally brought me to my breaking point was having to say goodbye to my grandmother over Facebook Live while strangers “heart reacted” to her funeral with the same reverence they gave to cat videos. On top of this Stanford was taking their sweet time inviting me to interview, and I was sure I had gotten dinged. I was unable to function, let alone finish my applications.
Yet, Angela was constantly there for me. Not as an admissions consultant, but as a friend, mentor, and quasi grief counselor. When I felt like I was losing my mind she always had wisdom for the moment -providing equal parts actionable advice and compassion. With her help, I fought off depression and took back control over my life -just in time for my Stanford admissions interview invitation to show up. The only complication was that my Stanford alumni interviewer was General Motors CEO and Stanford Board of Trustees member, Mary Barra… Surely, Angela wouldn’t have any experience with that terrifying situation, right? Wrong, she’s had clients get interviewed by her before and gave me the direction I needed to absolutely slay it.
Angela Guido is certainly a voodoo shaman of the human spirit and a magical MBA unicorn, but she has a secret to her success. The truth is she couldn’t care less about whether I got into business school. Her engine is fueled by helping people find lifelong fulfillment, business school admission is the byproduct. I can now proudly wear my “I learned to articulate my life’s purpose, and all I got was this lousy Stanford acceptance letter” t-shirt. Thanks, Angela!
After seeing first-hand how knowledgeable Angela is about the business school application process through Forte MBA Launch, I knew I had to work with her! Angela supported me in getting into Wharton with a named merit scholarship.
I worked with a different consultant at a top firm the year prior, but I much preferred working with Angela and wish I had worked with her sooner! I felt the previous consultant I worked with was too busy for me at times and kind of gave up on me. Angela is always wholly supportive. I think my best essay topics came from ideas that I put forth and deeply refined with Angela, so I recommend that applicants come to the brainstorming session with Angela with a strong sense of what they want to write about.
The best thing about Angela is that she will be your biggest cheerleader through the grueling application process. She always went above and beyond for me, getting drafts back to me early so that I could get my application in on time. No matter how many questions I asked, Angela was always there to provide answers.
Angela also really shines in interview prep. Halfway through the MBA application process, she helped me prep for job interviews, and I landed a role at a FAANG company. The mock MBA interview she set up also helped me to feel completely prepared and confident during my actual Wharton team-based discussion.
I look forward to continuing to have Angela as a friend and mentor in the future.
I will always remember my first phone call with Angela. I was a nervous wreck, with a million and a half questions about the MBA process and uncountable doubts about my prospects. After talking to Angela, she not only gave me hope but also real advice. Within the next few days, I signed up with Career Protocol; looking back, I can say it was the best decision I made.
While I didn’t work directly with Angela on my application (I worked with another AMAZING consultant – Britt), Angela and I worked closely on mapping out my career path. She scheduled a career coaching call with me where we would discuss what I wanted to do post-MBA; this call was not part of the package, and she did this simply because she could tell how confused and stressed I was about my post-MBA plans during our initial call.
Before our scheduled call, Angela had me fill out both the Myers Briggs Personality Test and the Strengths Finders Test. She used the results from these tests, coupled with my discovery doc, to come up with my professional strengths and weaknesses. For context, I have a very traditional, cookie-cutter background in Investment Management, and I initially wanted to write about what sounded “right.” So, during our call, I told Angela how I wanted to do Fin-tech and how that “made sense.” Angela immediately called out my BS, and challenged me to think outside the box and embrace my true passion and hobbies. By the end of the call, the following happened: 1) Angela and I had designed an entire career path, which was a complete pivot from my current role in Investment Management. 2) Angela pointed out some uncovered assumptions I had about other safe career paths I wanted to explore, helping me realize that none of those options were actually anything I wanted. 3) Angela made me feel that she had known me for years, and genuinely wanted the best for me. 4) Lastly, Angela gave me the courage to believe that my side passion project could turn into reality, only if I had the courage to believe in myself and followed my dreams, unapologetically.
Thanks to Angela/Britt, I got into both Wharton and Booth, and will be attending Wharton – my dream school – this fall. Beyond helping me get into a top business school program, they gave me the courage to follow my heart, even when it’s off the well-worn path.
Angela helps you realize how amazing you already are. That alone empowered me to believe in myself and in my story. The rest was just putting the pieces together. I got accepted to one of my top schools and 4 other schools; all of them with scholarships ranging from 50K to full tuition.
I am still stunned. If you had told me 12 months ago that I would be picking up the phone to hear “Congratulations! We would love to admit you to the Stanford GSB Class of 2022” I would have told you that you were simply being ridiculous, and to stop getting my hopes up.
And yet, after working with Angela, I not only have a Stanford offer but offers to three other M7 schools, one with a scholarship! It’s well beyond my wildest dreams, and I’m putting the effort into writing this review because I am so grateful to her and her team for the countless hours of support (literally, unlimited) that they put into getting me where I am today.
My background: I currently work at an MBB firm in international geography. My background pre-MBB is non-traditional – I worked in a community-run NGO, with no business qualification to speak of (therefore why I wanted to go to B-school in the first place!). I took the GRE, not the GMAT (score was ~ average for top schools), and my undergraduate marks were pretty poor. In short, we had a lot of work to do to reach my target schools.
The process: Angela was dedicated from the start to truly understanding my story. She asked the right questions from the very start, which led me to pour out some of my deepest hopes and fears to someone I had spoken to for barely 15 minutes!
Through countless iterations of multiple essays, Angela was instrumental at helping me ‘show, not tell’, and to bring parts of my personal story that I had discounted as irrelevant to an MBA to the fore – which, in the end, became the centerpieces of my applications. I learned not just to tell my story, but to tell stories better in general – a skill which also helped me later during the interview process.
Her services truly are all-inclusive – from essays to interviews, to all the other tiny things you need to know about MBA applications, scholarship negotiations, and interviews.
My take: Angela works with clients that she genuinely believes will make a positive difference in the world, and her belief in you is contagious. If you have any issues with self-confidence, Angela’s enthusiasm and honesty will help you celebrate your strengths as much as help work through your weak spots.
Her ‘special sauce’ is a mix of her years of experience in this space, her training as a story-teller and screenwriter, and her clear insistence that she is there to bring out the best in you, and help you write your own story – not to write it for you. The lessons I have learned throughout this process have helped me already in my job, and with applying for various other programs and awards.
I interviewed a number of consultants before I settled with Angela, all of whom told me to retake the GRE / lower my expectations – Angela believed in me from the beginning, and now I’m heading to the most selective business school in the world.
Thank you, Angela and team. Truly.
Angela was the savior I didn’t even realize I needed. When I embarked on my MBA journey, I was confident that I could complete strong applications for my target schools on my own. Nope. 3 weeks before the first deadline, when my ego finally stepped aside, I reached out to Angela (who I had known previously) for help. She told me the task ahead was crazy, and maybe even that I was crazy… but 20 minutes later, I finally felt my shoulders come down, my eyes close, and my breath exhales when I heard her say “Let’s do this”. A few months later, I received an offer from Top3 and Top10 MBA programs in the US, and to top it off, I even got a scholarship (which to both of our amazement, she had predicted). I would not be where I am today without Angela (not another MBA coach/career coach/friend who went to HBS/GSB/Other Target MBA). I really mean: A N G E L A… and here are the reasons why: 1. She really will call you out on your BS, especially if you don’t have the luxury of time. But here’s the added bonus, she will still put in the effort to explain why that path and other paths (which you’d probably think to take next) won’t work. It’s really amazing how she can do this. 2. She is a MASTER at making your tailored game plan: Whether it’s creating a 1-month plan or, or prepping 12 hours before for an interview you had yet fully prepped for, Angela is an expert at creating and walking you through plan A, but also plan B and even Plan C. She has the logic all thought out and I have ALWAYS FELT PROTECTED and ULTIMATELY CONFIDENT when following her game plane. 3. She will uncover your fears and motivations and turn them into your STRENGTHS. But only if you let her. And if you don’t, she will call you out (point #1). Through this process, I often felt Angela knew me better than I knew myself. I should also add that I am a woman working as an MBB consultant and I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for Angela’s career coaching. Coming from a non-traditional background, Angela as a coach empowered and equipped me to get to where I am today. She even got a friend of hers who had previously worked at an MBB firm to give me key advice and tips. Again, I cannot stress how thankful I am for Angela, both for my professional, academic, and most importantly, personal development.
If you’re looking for some help with your B-school app, I’m certain there are endless resources that will guide you to a successful candidacy. If you’re looking to touch base with your most authentic self AND leverage that to get into the program of your dreams – I believe Angela’s approach alone will help you on this journey.
My background is non-traditional, to say the least: I have worked in several industries since graduating, have had more side-hustles than I can count on my hands and toes, and currently run two small businesses, alongside a demanding day-job. With visions of growing one of my ventures into something larger, I have been toying with the idea of going back to business school for a little over two years now.
Last year, I joined Forte’s MBALaunch program to get a better sense of the process and gain access to resources to support my journey. Through this program, I was able to speak to countless consultants in person at events, as well as through 1-on-1 appointments available to the launchers. I was looking for some help in tying my experiences and goals together to put my best foot forward, and was excited to have these consultants as a resource in the process – or so I thought.
In no time, I realized that nearly all of my consultant appointments resulted in similar criticism of my candidacy: 1. My unique story is inspiring yet will most likely be a challenge to explain to AdCom 2. I was asked to leave out many of my experiences to present a more cohesive and palatable story for AdCom’s benefit 3. And often, I was asked to consider applying to lesser reputable programs to manage my expectations
The action steps were always recommendations based on “What AdCom is looking for” and how to change my resume and narrative to mold to these expectations. It felt like a game on how to put together a cookie-cutter, tried and tested application to just get into a program. “You just have to get in, and then you can do whatever you want” they would say.
I was bored of the version of myself they suggest I put forward, and truly couldn’t see myself applying in this manner or being happy with myself if I gained admission with this approach.
At this point in my journey, I came across a webinar Angela hosted for the Forte program. She spoke about the power of celebrating your story in your MBA application, and not just tailoring it to meet what we believe AdCom might want to hear. I reached out to learn more.
From the introductory call, it was obvious that she was committed to celebrating each individual’s uniqueness as an MBA applicant. She showed a tremendous amount of faith in my candidacy and really became a champion against some of the insecurities I had developed through this process.
Some highlights: 1. I was planning to apply in Round 3 or Round 1, next year – and she actually encouraged me to apply in Round 2 because she felt that I was ready (so much confidence in me that I didn’t have in myself just yet!) 2. Angela found ways to tie together all of the smallest parts of my personal narrative to bring color and life to a cohesive story that I wasn’t previously able to tell myself 3. She did it all with humor, grace, and optimism – that made the process fun from the very beginning. She sees magic in the mundane of your life. It’s brilliant.
Beyond essays and resumes, she actually has a portal that walks you through each part of the application process – to research, to network, to develop a deeper understanding of your self and your journey. Additionally, she offers a comprehensive interview training module that will equip you to master MBA interviews, recruitment and beyond; and is also by your side through scholarship negotiations, and final decisions. Invaluable.
Results? I was able to turn around applications within six weeks to top b-schools, and gain acceptance into 5 programs with scholarships!
Going back to my first statement. For me, whether I realized this at the time or not, the application process wasn’t just about getting into business school. My larger journey has been about zeroing in on my core values to ensure I was aligning my past and future self to honestly translate my values towards my life goals. If that sounds like something you want to be able to accomplish as well, trust me: Angela is THE master.
I worked with another very qualified consultant from a top admissions consulting firm before working with Angela, which I think gives me a unique point of view on what makes Angela different from any other consultant.
The self-discovery and storytelling process is really the foundation of the application and the part that you can control. Angela is an absolute maestra at guiding her clients through this – she helped me very effectively connect my values, experiences, and goals, allowing me to truly understand what I wanted to do during and after my MBA, which in turn resulted in essays that felt genuine and in admissions interviews in which I felt very comfortable with minimal preparation.
I remember very vividly the call in which we tied the dots together. We had had a call to outline my strategy for one essay a week earlier, and after reviewing the first draft she suggested we have another call to re-evaluate – she knew my story could be more powerful. Even though she was on her way to visit family for a holiday, she found time to discuss. On that call, we had what we ended up describing our ‘epiphany’, which uncovered sides of my story that I had not thought about and that really represented my motivations and fit perfectly with a few key anecdotes and strengths I wanted to highlight.
Following that call, the essay writing process became very easy – I was able to write essays very quickly, and I even did some applications on my own that were very successful.
At the end of the process I had gained admission to multiple M-7 schools, and I can’t imagine having gone through this process without Angela. The method she utilizes (and other consultants at Career Protocol employ as well) is the best I can imagine for the MBA admissions process.
Angela Guido is hands-down THE best investment I made for myself, not only for my MBA application process but for career and life advice in general.
Much like you, I tirelessly researched admission consultants and had a handful of 30-minute consultation calls in order to find the best partner to help me during my MBA application. Every one of them was highly qualified, but after going through the Career Protocol website and speaking with Angela, I knew that her overall approach to this process was exactly what I was looking for. Here’s how I’d summarize the standout pieces of the Career Protocol experience:
• Angela’s Process is bulletproof o One of the main reasons why I chose Angela was how approachable her whole process was. Angela created “Career Protocol”, where once you onboard onto her team, you get a login to the membership portion of the website that goes through the 10 steps that will take you from the self-reflection/school research part of the process all the way to how to decide between multiple school offers. Everything was so clear and well-organized that all the anxiety that I had with this process and the ambiguity of what exactly I had to do to set myself up for success was gone. It was my roadmap. o You start of the process by filling out a Discovery document that asks all the right questions to really help you dig into your past experiences and the “why” MBA question. This document was golden when it came to shaping my stories. o Every conversation you have with Angela/her team is recorded and is stored for your reference whenever you need it. This was crucial when trying to refer to specific guidance or knowledge that was being shared, and even some “aha” moments during brainstorming that I needed to replay. o Angela is a Master Storyteller. On my own, I knew that I had experiences that I wanted to share with the schools I was applying to, but I didn’t know how I wanted to tell them in a way that described my journey. Angela has perfected the way of telling a story, which benefitted not only my essays but how I interview. The way I was able to communicate my past experiences with future goals was definitely shaped by the tools Angela gave me, and I’m confident that it contributes to why I got into every school I interviewed for! • Working with Angela is like working with your best friend o Not only is Angela super down to earth and one of the easiest people to talk to, she actually made the process fun! Every email, essay revision, phone conversation was like chatting with a friend who at times knew me better than I knew myself. Angela was a constant support throughout the entire process, even when it was hard. When I didn’t get into one of the schools that I applied to, Angela immediately set up a call with me and we discussed what we thought were the contributing factors, next steps, and how I could improve my outstanding applications with what we knew. This truly showed me how invested she was in my process and how much she cared about my success. • Career Protocol community o Angela and her team work with the best and brightest to-be-students out there, and unlike many other consulting groups, they tap into this community. This was definitely a differential factor for me. Angela had an HBS essay writing webinar set up for all the Career Protocol members where we were able to interact with the other applicants. This one-on-one interaction and brainstorming session were what shaped my overarching theme for my “Why an MBA” essay. Also, after having multiple school offers, Angela connected me with another prospective student she was working with who also had similar offers in order to brainstorm pros and cons together, which has proven to be super helpful in making my final decision!
I have been admitted R1 to both Kellogg and Booth, which were my top choice schools, and will be going to Booth this Fall! I can confidently say that through my experience with Angela I have been able to completely shape my story and better understand myself and my purpose as I start business school in the Fall!
The MBA application process can be nerve-wracking and intimidating. Although I had a solid GMAT score, work experience and extracurriculars, I was so nervous going into the process because I had a below average GPA for the top schools. But working with Angela made the process SO much less stressful and even fun!
Before working on any of the essays with Angela, she has you fill out a discovery document, where you really reflect on yourself, your accomplishments, and the most important moments of your life thus far who have shaped who you are. Angela also makes a summary powerpoint of this document with the main themes and stories for your essays and interviews. I went back to this initial document and powerpoint over and over throughout the MBA process. Not only did it set up a foundation for the stories I was going to tell for my essays, but it also was immensely helpful when I was preparing for interviews.
Angela also helped me figure out what I wanted to do in the short term in addition to the long term. I was able to clarify these career goals for myself through one of our initial phone calls, and through various career goal tools in her client portal. This was crucial to helping me figure out my story, and what I want to do immediately post-MBA.
When it came time to write the essays, Angela and I worked long and hard on the big, ominous prompts to really dig deep into the stories that I wanted to tell, which were uncovered piece by piece with every draft. While a LOT of work was put into these drafts up front, once we got them finalized, the rest of the process moved so quickly and I was able to cut these drafts down and revise them for each of the schools I applied to. In addition, writing these essays helped me learn more about myself than I ever could have imagined.
I loved the attitude that Angela and the entire Career Protocol team had. The MBA application process – from GMAT to networking to actually writing the essays – takes up a lot of mental and emotional energy. Angela was always enthusiastic, motivating, uplifting, and made me feel like I could do it and could achieve the results that I wanted. She also took the time to meet up in person whenever she could, which is rare for working with a consultant in Europe! The two times she was in the US, she took care to meet up – once in the airport, and once with the whole Career Protocol team too! I was able to join them on their team lunch in Sonoma, which was a total blast.
But even though Angela is motivating, when I needed to change something, she wasn’t afraid to call me out. For example, she encouraged me to take the GMAT a second time, and I may have only skimmed through Angela’s resume protocol, which led to many, many resume rewrites (that eventually turned into a masterpiece). 🙂
For whatever questions I had, Angela was my sounding board. I had several questions and concerns over the several months we worked together…from where to apply, to what to expect in an interview, and so much more. Her client portal is also chock full of helpful tips touching every single part of the application process. There is a whole interview course, resources on how to conduct informational interviews from current MBA students, storytelling workshops, and so much more. Angela and I also did mock interviews together – including a Kellogg video essay mock and a group interview with other clients for the Wharton team-based discussion – both of which fully prepared me for the real thing.
I am so pleased to say that I have finished the MBA process with fantastic results. I got into 4 out of the 6 schools I applied to, including 3 schools in the M7! I also received a FULL RIDE from Kellogg, and VERY generous financial packages from Wharton and Booth.
So if you’re thinking about who to hire, choose Angela!! She will be the best guide throughout the journey to help you learn more about yourself and come out with amazing results. And even better, I know she will be a lifelong friend and mentor.
If you want to compete for a spot at one of the best business schools, you need to work with the best consultant. I, like most people in my position, was apprehensive to spend the money on a consultant and went back and forth on the idea for several weeks/months. Then I spoke with Angela. Within a few minutes of my free consultation, I was sold. I wasn’t interested in paying someone to compliment me… Angela holds no punches and tells it like it is so if you’re looking for someone to stroke your ego and pat you on the back, look elsewhere. I wanted real, candid feedback. Aside from being in the military, I’m no different than most candidates interested in top tier MBA programs. In fact, my GMAT score was 50 points below the average of any top school I was interested in. Rather than steering me toward lower-ranked schools because I didn’t have the “magic numbers/stats”, Angela dug in and encouraged me to apply for HBS and other schools I would have never even considered by focusing on my strengths and experiences. While I was eventually dinged from HBS, I received interview invites from almost every other school and withdrew my applications from others when I was admitted to my M7 dream school.
Before I go any further, let me make it clear that Angela will not write your essays for your nor will she do your work for you—she doesn’t need to because she knows how to make you realize what makes you unique which leads to an even better story (and a better candidate when it comes time for interviews, etc). On my fifth revision of one particular essay, I very vividly remember thinking, “why won’t she just do this for me? I’m paying a lot of money for her services.” I was a bit frustrated and I think she was beginning to sense my frustration so we organized a call. During that call, Angela made me realize why I was missing the mark and how I could effectively convey my story to the adcom. I can’t remember exactly what she said but from that point onward, everything began to click. I felt completely in control of my story and began to knock each essay out of the park with small tweaks here and there. By the time interviews rolled around, I already felt confident that I had developed the storytelling techniques required to excel. The process has been nothing short of transformative and I will rely on what I learned from Angela as I move forward in my career.
By choosing Career Protocol and Angela, you’re giving yourself the best possible chance of gaining acceptance into your dream school. In life, you get what you pay for and the Career Protocol product is top shelf. The fact that there are no limits on essay revisions or the number of times you can call or email shouldn’t be overlooked. At one point Angela and I had agreed that after a few revisions, one of my essays was ready for submission. A couple of hours later, Angela emailed me back and told me to hold that thought- she wanted to start over and that’s exactly what we did. She could have easily told me to submit and I wouldn’t have thought twice about it. The new essay was even stronger and provided a more clear vision of my career goals. That’s the type of service you’re getting if you decide to hire Angela.
If you’re not sold by this point, ask yourself how much you’d be willing to pay to guarantee yourself a spot at your dream school. While it’s understood that nothing is ever a guarantee, working with Angela is as close as you can get and if you’re like me, you’d regret it later in life if you didn’t give yourself the best possible shot at achieving your goals.
I first spoke with Angela in 2018. I was preparing to apply to MBA programs and I felt so overwhelmed by the process- what schools to apply to, how to prepare essays, how to present myself, and when to take the GMAT. I scheduled a call with Angela and told her the unfiltered truth about me, where I come from and where I’m going. I have a very atypical background for a potential MBA Candidate and I’m so grateful that she was honest with me. She told me that I was the second most complicated case she has heard and that my best course of action was to be raw and authentic in the MBA application, embracing my truth and using it as the foundation of my application.
Angela helped me to be bold and avoid shying away from my truth. Because of our conversations, I wrote some really raw and exposing essays during the application process. Honestly, I was scared to be as authentic and honest as I was, but I was reassured by Angela’s words. I thought, if nothing else, it would be a compelling story about overcoming hardship and succeeding.
I am so pleased to say that I got accepted into my target school!! I was surprised, to say the least. I was absolutely myself- no fronts, no facades- and that ultimately got me accepted to a top business school. I am grateful for my conversations with Angela and the boldness she instilled in me, allowing me to embrace my truth and achieve this huge goal.
We have kept in contact over this past year, discussing my progress and new services and programs that she has been working hard on. Angela is a person who truly cares and wants the best for you. I highly recommend at least having a conversation with her, you won’t regret it and it may just be the springboard to achieving your dreams.
I worked with Angela on my MBA applications for 2019 entry. During our free consultation, what encouraged me to work with Angela was her candor, and fascinatingly accurate analysis of my profile, my key strengths and my required areas of focus! Angela pushed me to truly think about myself, my achievements, and what I valued the most as I prepared for my MBA essays and resume. When I finally did click submit, I was confident that I was putting forward extremely strong, thoughtful and honest applications. While I ultimately didn’t end up going to B-school due to life admin that came up (like waiting for my permanent residency to come through), Angela was a huge influence in not only putting forward competitive B-school applications but also helping me navigate my career more broadly. I am still in touch with her as I am figuring out what is next, and know blindly that I can rely on her for honest and unbiased feedback. I would highly recommend working with Angela if you are interested in learning more about yourself as you go through the B-school process, and of course, goes without saying if you want to be uniquely competitive for top B-schools!
Perhaps the best part about Angela’s book was that it was all so very relatable- the fact that I was thinking an interviewer was judging every word that came out of my mouth and that uncomfortable feeling when I’m asked to brag about my proudest moments in life. It was a huge relief to find out that most people undergo these feelings. The other best part has to be ‘the friendship mindset’ that Angela introduced in this book. Going into an interview with this frame of mind made me feel so much more authentic and focus a lot less on the end result and more on the conversation in front of me while I was in my interviews. Previously, I followed the very tried and tested STAR approach when handling behavioral questions and, truth be told, it was similar to Angela’s 4C approach mentioned this book. However, what I did miss was all the intricate details in my stories, why they mattered to me, the stakes involved and mostly- the rollercoaster of emotions I went through when I’d either failed or succeeded. Before I was going through my stories like a robot- it was all programmed in my head and felt very algorithmic. I knew I was missing a human touch to keep my interviewer involved in my stories up until the very end. Angela’s book provided me with a solid framework to practice and deliver my stories in a vivid and succinct manner. This is a great book for someone that has interviews coming up in a month’s time. I’d highly highly recommend it!
I knew in our first 30-minute call that Angela was the real deal. After just 10 minutes on the phone, it seemed like she had totally figured me out, far more than I had managed to figure myself out after several months of introspection. After another 10 minutes, she had come up with a strategy that suddenly made my whole story make sense and was the missing piece of the application puzzle that I had been struggling with for weeks (and all this was during a free consultation!). She was also able to identify my fit with the schools I was planning on applying to. And having now got all the results from the schools, she was spot on in terms of predicting where I would get in! I wish I had found Angela sooner as she would have saved me so much money, time and, more importantly, stress. I am so proud her guidance helped me get into my top choice school, Booth! If you’re trying to decide between consultants, or if you’re wondering whether a consultant is worth it, then please get in touch with Angela, you have nothing to lose but you could, like I did, gain so much. Angela, you’re a star!
I found Angela when I was thinking of applying to business school, but in our initial call she (very bluntly) told me I wasn’t ready – my candidacy wasn’t strong enough for the schools I wanted to go to. While she didn’t believe my candidacy was strong enough for business school, Angela did believe in me. She was able to recognize and dissect my strengths and instill the confidence I needed to move forward. Following that call, I managed to land an internship at a top 3 management consulting firm. I had a few months to prove myself to the firm for a chance at the full-time offer and I knew that Angela could help me make the most of my resources. Throughout the internship, Angela was critical as I fought off self-doubt, navigated workplace politics, and developed strategic alliances. My calls with Angela were like a self-check-in/therapy session, but unlike a therapist, she gave me the critical encouragement and tools to get me to where I needed to go. Without her, I would not have landed a full-time offer ☺.
Angela was instrumental to my acceptance to Harvard Business School, the business school of my dreams. I could not have asked for a better and more trusted business school consultant. I interviewed a few consultants recommended to me by colleagues and mentors and I immediately gravitated towards Angela. Her experience is unparalleled and the numbers spoke for themselves. Over her 10 years of experiences, she consulted with 300 candidates, and she also is a well-regarded career and interview coach. With my high-reaching goals (only applying to HBS and Stanford GSB), I wanted someone who knew not only the essay but the entire process inside and out. While I believed in my qualifications, I also knew my Achilles Heel – I was indecisive at times, and with my busy private equity schedule, I had very limited free time to work on my applications. Angela helped me embrace and communicate my unique story with confident humility. I came into the process convinced that there was nothing special about my background. Angela changed that. Her methodology emphasizes the critical step of brainstorming. From there, she was a thought partner, got to know me personally, and even helped me get to know myself better than ever. Whether instinct or ingenuity, Angela just knows what business schools look for. One of the most difficult parts of the business school application process for me was balancing the opinions of well-intentioned mentors, friends, and family members. When I sent around a draft of my essay to several colleagues, I was bombarded with just as many conflicting suggestions and edits. Instead of boiling the ocean, Angela helped me triage the edits, even if it meant ignoring some. Angela’s objective advice allowed me to efficiently and confidently make the best choices. The business school application processes was a period of intense introspection and soul-searching. As with many business school candidates, I was overwhelmed and filled with self-doubt at times. Angela was there for me during these moments of uncertainty. She treated her job not only as an essay editor, but also a life coach and emotional companion. She patiently answered my many questions about the GMAT, recommendations, and ultimately, the interview. She was equally as knowledgeable about these important aspects of the application as she was about the essay. Finally, I knew Angela always offered her honest opinion, even if it wasn’t the easiest thing to hear. I took her advice to retake the GMAT when I underperformed the first time. When the first cut at my essay didn’t resonate with her, she was brutally honest but also compassionately steered me in the right direction. She pushed me to challenge myself, resulting in a more impactful essay. When I finally hit submit on my application, I felt confident, in stark contrast in where I began the process. If I had to redo the process, I would pick Angela as my thought partner again and again. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone aspiring toward a top business school.
I knew that I wanted to work with Angela after listening to her lead a webinar with Forte. Her energy, sense of humor, and direct approach won me over. Here was a woman who had a non-traditional story like me. It brought her to South Korea to teach and to one of the best business schools in the U.S. So naturally, I thought that she would be able to relate to my nonprofit path and help me articulate a path that honored my journey and I was right. With Angela, it’s not just about getting you into business school. It’s about articulating a thoughtful and honest career plan and not about creating some contrived story that you think business schools want to hear. So, after months of saving money and even adding Angela to my 2018 vision board, I was finally able to make one of the best investments I’ve made in a long time. We worked hard together on really digging into my motivations. Angela made sure we left no stone unturned and was patient in listening to my stories and pulling together themes that reflected my unique strengths as a candidate. My story is a little different than most because while I got into my safety school, I did not get into the top schools of my choice (mainly because of my low GRE). This was hard to grapple with because of all the work we put into this process and trust me, it was a lot. Yet, after working with Angela, I can say with full resolve that I have the confidence to reapply again. This was the best investment I have ever made. What I valued most about working with Angela is that I developed a true sense of pride in owning and sharing my story. I also developed a skill in knowing how to translate my accomplishments using language that was more accessible to my audience. Angela became a friend, mentor, and ally. When I was taking one of the biggest career risks I’ve taken in a long time, I called Angela. We talked through the pros and cons, and how this would fit into my business school plans. Working with Angela has given me tools and approaches with no expiration date; I HIGHLY recommend working with Angela as you think about your business school journey. Next steps? Work on my GRE score and kick butt the way Angela taught me how. I hope to share an update in the near future!
I couldn’t be happier I made the decision to work with Angela. I have done a lot in my past; I succeeded but I also failed many times. Angela helped me look inside and develop a perspective for my future by looking at my past. She listened to me very deeply to then tell me who I am. When she did that, I got emotional and cried. She did much more than getting me into Harvard: She helped me connect all the dots, find confidence in myself and tell my story for the first time. Angela, I’ll forever be grateful for what you did for me. Thanks for making my dream come true!
Angela is inspiring, authentic, and truly cares about the people she works with. From the very beginning, she gave me candid and realistic feedback on my candidacy, specifically around my low test scores. What impressed me most about her is that she didn’t push to make a sale. Instead, she recommended that I spend my time and resources getting my weaker test scores up, even though she knew this meant I could afford less of her time. On top of that, she referred me to an amazing tutor who helped me gain points on both the quant and verbal sections. Her coaching is inspiring, her resources are extraordinary, but the reason you should work with her is that she puts the best interests of the client first. She is truly on your side. Ultimately, Angela was instrumental in my admittance to Tuck and Michigan Ross. I’d highly recommend Angela to anyone looking for support on their MBA journey!
I applied to Top 10 schools 3 years ago and failed miserably but I decided to try it again last year. I did not hire a consultant last time so I figured it would be best for me to do so this time. In the beginning, I talked to many consultants and they all told me the great things that I liked to hear but it just did not feel right to me. Angela was the last consultant that I talked to and she easily pointed out the strengths and weaknesses in my profile similar to other consultants but what set her apart is that she was very eager to know who I am and she was able to find my unique story even just within the free 30-min consultation. From that moment, I knew that Angela would be the one that could help me in this journey. I remember I was very nervous because of my previous application experience and I started to doubt myself even before signing up with her. Angela was very patient and guided me through what I should consider before committing to this journey. She was upfront and honest about the chances of my dream schools, but I ultimately decided to go for it. The whole process started with the preliminary discovery document where you basically wrote about your life by answering many questions on a questionnaire. Angela encouraged me to write without overthinking about it so I did just that and wrote everything that came to my mind. I was surprised by how well she already knew me from the first discovery call we had. I think it was very important because she was able to pull me away from writing what the adcom wanted to see by knowing who I am as a person. Angela taught me how I should tell my story through my essays and it was the most valuable skill I learned from her. I was able to interview with confidence because I simply talked about the things that I knew so well from the beginning – my story. Unfortunately, I was dinged/waitlisted by the schools I applied for. Even though our “official” contract was ended after I was dinged by the schools, Angela did not just move on to the other clients. She stayed in touch with me all the time and talked to me to help me in my next steps. She really cares about me not just in professional growth but also in personal growth. Luckily, my situation changed so I decided to apply for a part-time MBA. I used the skills I learned from Angela to tell my story in my essays and interviews and I was accepted by a top 5 part-time program with a $$ fellowship. Because of my personal situation and my career goal, I think it is actually a much better outcome than getting accepted by a full-time program. I know that I cannot get to this point of the journey without the support from Angela because she has always believed in me throughout the journey. To me, Angela is more than a consultant. She is the coach that always believe in me and bring the best out of me and the friend that always cares about me. Thank you, Angela!
I was referred to Career Protocol by a friend who worked with Angela and was admitted into HBS the year before I decided to apply – she didn’t hesitate or even bother to recommend doing research on other consultants. Still being the very thorough person that I am, I did my research. I reached out to many other firms/consultants, and not a single one compared. From my first conversation with Angela, I knew she was different because she was so friendly, bubbly and energetic, but more importantly, she asked me questions that really dug into who I was, what my goals were, what my passions were, and how I viewed the world around me. I knew working with Angela would bring out the creative side in me that was lacking in my otherwise very traditional business school application (banker > private equity). One example of the tremendous value Angela brought to the process of my applications was forcing me to be creative and to brainstorm VERY comprehensively on what makes me…ME! She had me fill out a discovery document at the beginning of the process that helped me uncover things about me I had buried in the past or completely forgotten about. Before coming to Angela, I had actually applied to b-school once before and tried doing it all on my own. I wrote my essays about an organization I led in college, but this was a very average story that I had already mentioned in my resume. Angela, after reading through my discovery document, pointed out storylines that were 100x more interesting (things I never would’ve thought to write about). She gave me the blunt and honest feedback that my old essay wasn’t going to cut it and that I should try starting from scratch. Angela was key in bringing out my personality with pen and paper – one of the best pieces of feedback I got was from her telling me to reread every sentence of my first draft and to insert emotion to capture the reader. Her entire module on epic storytelling is now a skill that I can take with me to school and to any job thereafter. After a long but fun application process, I’m proud to say I’ve been admitted to both Harvard Business School and Wharton Business School. I owe a tremendous amount of appreciation to Angela and Career Protocol for helping me get such strong results! The encouragement and confidence you gave me were simply priceless.
Angela has been an incredibly insightful and empowering mentor and career coach. Currently, in my first year at HBS, I enrolled in her YOMO course the summer before school started. It dramatically changed (for the better!) the way I approached networking and searching for opportunities in my target industry. I’ve leveraged Angela’s techniques to develop more meaningful professional relationships and gain access to new resources. More recently, I read Angela’s newest work, Interview Hero, as part of my internship application process. The recommendations and exercises in it were amazingly useful in helping me craft compelling, succinct narratives that I could rely on in actual interviews. It was a huge confidence boost to feel prepared for questions AND be reminded of the wealth in my experiences. I can absolutely say that Angela’s guidance – both on paper and in conversations – helped me to land my dream internship for the summer. I spoke to her shortly after accepting the offer to share the good news, and even got a little cherry-on-top advice for the road!
I’ve worked with Angela in many ways over the past year and her guidance helped me not only get into my dream business school but also prepare for my dream job in consulting. I discovered her first through Forte MBA Launch and loved her initial webinar SO much I immediately went to her website, used every tool available, and signed up for every webinar I could find! I referenced her You Discovery Toolkit from the very beginning to narrow down my target schools based on what I’m really looking for in an MBA, all the way through the end to prep my essays and short answers. Her unwavering belief that everyone is awesome and just needs to find their unique story is so refreshing–especially when I had experiences with other consultants that immediately told me the list of schools I was applying to was unrealistic as soon as they heard my GMAT score. I used her tools on pretty much every aspect of the application- her MBA resume protocol to completely redo my resume and lived and breathed the advice from her “How To Crush Interviews” webinar. In the end, I was accepted with a scholarship to Darden, Yale, Tuck, and Kellogg/MMM!! I also signed up for her SPITR class to try and get a jump start on consulting recruiting. All of the resources I’ve engaged with so far have distilled the core traits consultants need in a way that is simple and easy to understand, and she has actionable ways to practice the “micro-skills” so the cases aren’t nearly as overwhelming. She even took the time offline to offer me individual advice! All in all, Angela makes a process that can seem dominated by stats and scores feel human, empowering, and fun!! I would highly recommend any and all of her programs.
Having Angela on my team during my application process is amongst the best decisions I have ever made. I was going into this journey not knowing completely how to traverse through the various stages that would come along it – be it story formulation, the essays I had to write or the interview prep. Angela brought the perspectives that I needed at each of these stages. One of my most vivid memories from the earlier stages in my process was how Angela provided me with insights into most of the schools that I wanted to apply to and provided me recommendations on other schools that would best suit me based on my post-MBA goals. I feel I was a handful! She patiently sat with me during my essay writing process providing me with insights, recommendations on how I could improve my essays be it via adding that extra level of specificity or making it more personable and bring out the best out of them. Another tool that I was able to add during my entire process was the Interview Hero book that she authored – having access to it through my essay stage and especially the interview stage was a powerful tool that helped enhance the quality of my outputs in each of these stages. But these said, I think the main reason I feel having Angela with me in this journey was invaluable was because she stuck with me, especially when things weren’t looking that bright for me in the initial rounds. I had signed up for 5 schools with her and when they didn’t go as planned in the first round and when the decisions started slowly trickling in during the winter break, she provided constant moral support despite being on break herself. I will never forget this – she truly went above and beyond when I needed her most. She ensured we had regular calls to keep my sanity and perspectives in check. But she also ensured that when I decided to go into the following rounds, she did another round of essay brainstorming with me for another 5-6 schools (at no cost!). This is one of the best parts of the Career Protocol package. They support you at a high level in schools beyond the ones you do with your consultant. This gave me complete confidence that I was giving my best effort in those schools as well. Despite being an Indian applicant with an undifferentiated background, I would certainly attribute a large portion of getting into a top-5 global school to Angela’s presence in this journey. In the end, I know now that I had a friend who provided me with some solid advice on my apps, provided me with perspectives (not just for MBA but beyond that too) and more importantly was a cheerleader rooting for my success!
I can say with the utmost confidence that working with Angela made a major impact on my admittance into HBS – a dream I never imagined would come true. Whether it be pushing me past my writers’ block, pulling out my authentic story, or prepping me for my interviews, she helped me not only gain acceptance to my dream school but also inspired the self-confidence I needed to convince myself that my unique story and life experiences were worth sharing. In fact, for that very reason, she refuses to change your story to make you seem like the person you think the Adcom wants to see. Instead, she gives you the tools to be a great storyteller and pulls out your personal stories in the most compelling way possible. By expressing a truthful version of my own story, I not only felt more confident walking into my MBA interviews, but also developed a deeper, longer-lasting confidence in myself that I have carried over to my professional and personal life (I even used the storytelling skills to help my sister writer her Personal Statement for her Residency!). Regarding her style as far as involvement in crafting the essays, I found Angela’s approach to be the perfect level of intervention. The vast majority of her comments were questions to probe deeper into the meaning that I was trying to convey, propose a more compelling flow to the story, or question whether I could articulate the key point more concisely. However, at one point I found myself stuck. I tried and failed to construct my Stanford essay multiple times. As I received another email saying the dreaded “this structure isn’t going to work,” I knew that I had to start over from scratch again. With pressures from work mounting and application deadlines rapidly approaching, I was completely overwhelmed. I reached out, explaining my situation to Angela and she did not hesitate to jump on a call, plan out our work in detail for the next 3 weeks, and give me more tactical coaching on structure and storytelling. I appreciated that she was totally there for me in my toughest moments, and from that point forward, the essays came together fast. In the end, I created essays that I was extremely proud of. To say that Interview Hero was helpful would be a major understatement. During my interview at HBS, I was peppered with question after question, but because of Interview Hero, I wasn’t intimidated. Interview Hero trained me to build a mental database of personal stories to pull from depending on the type of interview question asked. Additionally, Angela did a phenomenal job analyzing the pieces of my application to generate an interview prep sheet, which included a narrowed down list of questions she would ask if she had me in the interview. Almost half of my HBS interview questions were on that prep sheet. In summary, I cannot overstate how helpful Angela was as my Professional Consultant in navigating the MBA application process. She was there for me every step of the way and dedicated herself to truly understanding my formative experiences. If you decide to work with Angela, I’m confident that you will be glad that you did.
Thinking about going back to get your MBA? Not sure where to start? Stop guessing. You’ve found the person and company to make your next step a reality. Going to business school is a huge decision and going through the Admissions process is no cake walk. Working with Angela Guido and the team at Career Protocols helped me ensure this decision was the right one for me (they won’t pre-sell it) and made this arduous application process so easy. Angela is the epitome of organized (though she is too modest to say so herself). She provides all her clients with access to a portal that is rich with resources that give you details on all the programs you’re interested in AND more importantly breaks down the application process into steps that you take over time so it never seems overwhelming. I applied to 5 schools and without Angela’s organization, I probably would have been scrambling at the deadlines. But instead, I submitted my applications ahead of the deadlines with full confidence that I had showcased my best! Most important though, Angela really helped me discover who I am and what I want out of a career and my life. It’s easy to show up to business school and be overwhelmed by the possibilities and the seductive offers of recruiters, but Angela knows this (as a former MBA herself) and she wants to make sure you’re prepared. You’ll be ready to focus on your priorities from Day 1. Before I worked with Angela I had a sense of my life experiences and the things that were important to me, but as a part of working with her I began to understand my story in a way that I could tell it to business schools and recruiters in a way that is meaningful to others and connects with what’s human about them. Angela is a master storyteller and will help you to see the story within. In sum, I cannot recommend Angela enough. You’ll be preparing yourself not just to go to Business school, but for life.
After my 2 years of experience knowing a number of consultants out there (working directly or hearing about them indirectly through friends) in my entire journey of MBA admissions, I feel that I ought to give honest feedback to help those who are now standing in my shoes where I was back then. We spend so much money on consultants that we actually cannot afford or even imagine because for some of us one of the reasons of doing an MBA is because we are not in a good financial position, to begin with. But we do spend that major chunk of our savings on these consultants, for the betterment of higher purposes in our lives, thinking that the value returned will suffice the loss. Truth be told – 99% of the consultants out there are not going to return you even 1% of the value you believe the money you are putting will return. I discovered that there are very very very few who are going to be of real help to you. (what’s the probability of landing upon one such gem? Maybe less than 0.0000000000001!!!) The rest of them – some of them may even leave you depressed or harm you beyond repair (that’s what happened to me). That is precisely why I thought of writing down a review for that one invaluable consultant who is the real gem in this industry. Angela is completely different – she is not doing this as her job; she is doing this as this is her life – and that’s what makes all the difference. She is passionate, driven, and in it for the love of it. And it’s not just me, people knew of her greatness much before I discovered it. Honestly, you are lucky if you land upon working with Angela who genuinely cares about your dreams and feels the rush to make you achieve them. Moreover, she will also give you a bonus – she will make you a better person – and that in reality will go a long way with you. She will let you be “YOU” and help you go get it with this very “YOU” and that’s what adcoms love – authentic!! (Wouldn’t you love reaching there with your authentic self and not being an imposter?). For those seeking help with their interviews, her book “Interview Hero” is a life savior. Perhaps you also don’t know (like I didn’t) – the real ingredient interviewers are knowingly or unknowingly looking for. And that’s exactly what she will tell you in the book. (I could also tell you those secrets but they will never work as magically they do when Angela casts the spell). So go ahead and grab this book if a sincere and honest transformation to success is what you are looking for in your journey right now. To Angela – “You are a gift to this fraternity and beyond. Thanking you will never be enough”.
Angela is a magician. Far beyond a helpful editor, she helped me see the value in work and experiences that I had – to that point – thought of as liabilities in my MBA applications. Through her questions, she helped me recognize a consistent thread through my varied career, that I had not seen. Having recognized it, I found incredibly rewarding to reflect on and write about my story for the applications. The entire process was an invaluable exercise in reflection and telling my story – to myself as much as to adcomms – and I reaped rewards far beyond admittance to my top choice, M7 program. So glad I was able to work with Angela.
Angela made the MBA application process such a fun and pleasant self-reflection journey! Through her guidance and coaching, I feel I have a much better sense of what matters to me, what truly makes me happy and what type of career I want to pursue. This self-knowledge made my applications shine but more importantly will follow me through the rest of my life and guide many of my personal and professional decisions. I was originally very hesitant to first to work with an MBA consultant after having a terrible experience a few years ago. During that whole application process, we only had one 30-minute phone call. Everything else was over email. Outside of reviewing my resume, he took no time to get to know me as a person. His communication style was very impersonal and direct to the point of bullying. In the end, I felt my essay turned out very cookie-cutter lacking any authenticity or personality. Working with Angela was like night-and-day compared to this other consultant, a supposed ‘guru’. Angela is extremely upbeat and kind, and she has a great intuition into what makes people tick. In our first official meeting, Angela asked me to fill out a self-discovery exercise where I shared many stories ranging from childhood memories to professional accomplishments to people who had influenced me. After spending hours working on this document, Angela clearly spent an equal amount of time analyzing my background, pulling out themes that she found across all of the stories I shared. I remember being mesmerized as she was able to pull out very accurate personal traits when we spent an hour and a half on the phone discussing my journey. From that phone call, we had developed an outline for my unique story that I was able to use across all six schools I applied to. Throughout the essay portion, Angela made herself available to chat through feedback over the phone whenever I needed. Her way of providing critical feedback was heartfelt and very actionable. Unlike my previous consultant, she never made me feel like I was not trying hard enough. She turned around all feedback in a timely manner. When it came time for interviews, her one-on-one feedback was immensely helpful. These phone conversations were recorded, and I found myself often revisiting these recordings to master exactly how to tell a story. (Shameless plug – her book “Interview Hero” is also a must-read!) Then once I got my acceptances, she also helped me negotiate a scholarship with my top-choice. Finally, it would be an injustice not to highlight the online portal, “The Irresistible MBA Application.” This was such an awesome supplemental tool to use alongside the one-on-one time with Angela. It walks you through every step in the application process from essays to writing short answers to negotiating scholarships. I found myself often turning back to these materials after chatting with Angela in case I could not decipher my notes. Working with Angela was absolutely the right decision for me. She deeply cares about her clients and the output truly shows this. I plan to continue to keep in touch with her as my career progresses in case I need a pep talk. My highest regard for Angela and the Career Protocol team!
I first learned about Angela when visiting business schools across the US in an effort to narrow down my long list of target MBA programs. Many students I spoke to had used admissions consultants, but one name kept coming up again and again: Angela Guido. These recurring references gave me confidence that Angela knew what she was doing before I had even arranged our free 30-minute consultation. Contracting an admissions consultant is no small financial commitment (aside from college tuition, it remains my single greatest expense to date!) so I was sure to speak to a number of potential consultants to find the right one. While I’m sure the other consultants would have helped contribute to my success, the calls I had with them were somewhat impersonal. I felt they were a bit jaded as I was consistently distilled down to a GMAT score, GPA, and employer. While these are undoubtedly important characteristics in an MBA profile, they aren’t anything a consultant can help you with. Consultants can, however, ensure that you bring out your personality, desires, dreams, and motivations in compelling essays. I remember Angela focused on getting to know me on our consultation call. This was very important to me – I’m more than my GMAT score and so are you! Because Angela looked beyond this, she was able to provide a qualified (and accurate) prediction of my admissions chances at my target schools. Other consultants saw the top 7 as a reach for me and suggested I should focus on the next tier of schools. It was clear that Angela felt strongly that I’d be selling myself short if I did so. I remember that early on she said something along the lines of “if you don’t get into at least one of these top 7 schools, I’ll eat my hat!” Thankfully, her hat remains safe from the prospect of human consumption by a considerable distance! I won’t go into the detailed mechanics of how candidates work with admissions consultants, but what is worth noting is the time investment that Angela makes in you right at the beginning in the preliminary discovery document. I wrote 30+ pages over the course of a week; reams and reams of my most personal life experiences and dreams for the future. I was incredibly impressed by how thoroughly Angela read the document – in the next call we had, it actually felt strange that she knew me and the way my mind worked so well! Angela truly has a unique ability to hone in on the underlying themes from these stories that will best appeal to adcoms. The amount of time that applicants can pour into their MBA ambitions is almost limitless: GMAT prep, extracurricular commitments and essay writing alongside full-time jobs can leave little time for anything else. So much so, that you don’t know when to stop tweaking essays! Angela provides a clear voice of reason and sanity-check when you’re over-egging your essays. I fell into the trap of making endless tweaks that added little value at best, and represented value destruction at worst. Angela won’t sugar-coat it and clearly told me that my pursuit for perfection was actually taking me backward. I know that without an experienced consultant, I would not have been able to identify the right time to stop editing an essay. I cannot stress the importance of this enough – you can drive yourself mad making final refinements, so I’m glad Angela was there to stop me! One of the main reasons that I wanted to work with a consultant was insecurity in my own essay-writing abilities. Before I started the essay-writing process with Angela, I figured that she’d give me a rough outline, then help me to flesh it out over time – in a way, I thought my consultant would help fill a gap in my own skillset. Little did I know that, instead, Angela would guide me through a rigorous learning process that would actually equip me with these essay-writing skills for life. Today, having written many successful application essays with Angela as my teacher, I feel very confident in my essay writing abilities and have even deployed them to help friends, family, clients and community members in similar application essays of their own. Angela must take credit for a lot of this; her business card may say ‘admissions consultant’, but in the time that we worked together, she was more of a teacher.
Angela Guido is the most pleasant, personal, productive and above-and-beyond type of high-quality consultant you could possibly get for professional or graduate schools admissions, and career development. As a management professional whose career goal is to strive for perfection and excellence, Angela knows what it takes to beautify and tailor your personal stories to take you where you’d like to be. She really does rock and roll! I invited Angela’s service for both kinds when I was in mid-career in higher education management. She helped me apply to business and masters programs and develop my career with my organization. Our thorough, realistic and intensive consultation sessions made me become aware of a new, competitive, confident and unique me. Sometimes we have to admit that we don’t know what we already have and it takes an expert professional like Angela to facilitate the story-telling process. In today’s competitive academic and job market, it is eye-opening and fortunate to recognize and work with a truly exceptional consultant like Angela. I am recommending her to every single ambitious, dedicated candidate for school or work, with heartfelt enthusiasm.
What a difference. That was all I could think after wrapping up my first call with Angela. My MBA application wounds were still fresh, having just been rejected by all of my top choice schools. I had worked with one of the “big name” MBA consulting firms on my applications, and while my consultant was helpful editing my essays for grammar and clarity, they didn’t push me on the real meat of my content. I certainly didn’t feel I got value for the money I spent. I decided if I was going to re-apply, I needed to find someone who could really make a difference in my application. From the first call with Angela, I knew she would make that difference. Angela’s client portal was super organized and filled with helpful materials that she guided me through (I could tell it was built by a former consultant!) But the MOST important thing that Angela did was take time from the very beginning to really get to know ME. And because she really knew me, she could push me to make sure my authentic voice was coming through in my materials. Sometimes I would write something that seemed fine to me, but she would say “Hey, this doesn’t really sound like you” or “This kind of makes you seem like X, but I feel like you’re actually more Y so let’s adjust”. In the end, I felt great about my applications and was completely at peace with what I submitted. I KNEW that I had distilled my life and personality into my materials, and it was up to the schools to decide if I was the right person for their class. I ended up getting waitlisted by my top choice school, and Angela continued to be incredibly supportive and helpful as we outlined a waitlist strategy. When the phone call finally came informing me that I was admitted to Booth, the dark application clouds that had hung over my life for a solid two years parted – I made it! There were no significant changes in my application (no new job, no higher scores, etc.) versus the previous year – outside of the content – where Angela was able to push me to find MY voice. And it made all the difference.
I suffer from an anxiety disorder. So much so that if I am being tested for an exam or interview, my legs start shivering and teeth chattering. I can hear my heartbeats out loud. I had a B-School interview lined up for 21st Feb, and I wondered how can my body be more nervous that I actually felt I was. Over time, My husband and I have become a big fan of Angela’s work – listening to her webinars and reading her stuff for over a year an half. He the Interview Hero class and book and asked me to take it up as the first thing for preparation. Interview Hero was like getting myself checked up with a psychologist. Even though still anxious, I started looking forward to sharing my stores with the interviewer. The big day – nerves captured my body as they always do – every part of my body behaved as abnormal as it could. BUT, I told my body “react the way you want to, but I am going to talk to the interviewer like my friend, and even if I go wrong, I would at least have a friend by the end of the session.” Those nerves dint leave my body, and the impact Interview Hero left on my subconscious didn’t leave me either. The interview went awesome! Angela really puts passion in her work, that really inspires me to chase my dreams!! No words are enough to express my gratitude for her. I’d be forever obliged to her.
I had spoken to an MBA consultant prior to Angela to better understand my strength as a candidate. That initial call with the consultant left me discouraged and frenzied—I felt like there was no way I was going to get into a top program with my statistics. Thankfully, I stumbled upon Angela and in our initial consultation call, she immediately reassured me that I was capable enough to get into a top program. Her optimism in my potential gave me the confidence I needed to surmount the MBA application process. Working with Angela was a very introspective journey. Early in our calls, she was able to quickly and accurately pinpoint who I was as a person and what I valued; and her insights made all the difference in helping me craft my stories. Moreover, having a trusted partner like Angela helped lighten the load and calm my nerves. Left to my own devices, I would’ve nitpicked over the smallest details. But with Angela, all I needed to worry about was telling my story as authentically and as truthfully as possible. And she would take care of the rest. In the end, I was admitted to my top-choice program with a Forte fellowship! And more importantly, Angela’s insights about my life story has made me more confident in who I am as a professional and what I bring to the table. Could I have gone through the application process without Angela? Probably. Was it SIGNIFICANTLY easier with Angela? Definitely.
Working with Angela on my business school applications is one of the best decisions I ever made—not only because Angela helped me get the results I wanted, but because her coaching made a stressful, often overwhelming application process more positive than I ever imagined possible. I was admitted to several M7 schools, including one school with a generous merit scholarship and Stanford GSB. I am over the moon with the outcome, and I am also extremely happy with the personal and professional value I derived from working with Angela to translate my personal values into tangible career goals. Working with Angela helped me grow both personally and professionally; I emerged surer of myself and my judgment, and more confident in what makes me unique—especially in the things I thought I was supposed to hide from admissions committees and job recruiters. Before I get into more on what makes working with Angela so special, I want to provide some context on how I ended up signing on as her client in the first place, after consulting with at least five other qualified counselors from reputable firms. I sought an admissions counselor because while I have always loved school and work, I have absolutely HATED applying for those opportunities. College apps and on-campus recruiting were the most anxiety-inducing, self-doubting, unpleasant periods of my professional life. My nerves—and the stiff competition—got to me, and I felt beaten down by the end. I figured that having someone on my team this time could ease the burden. The rave reviews of Angela on Poets & Quants promised a better, more fun way. But some of the reviews sounded too good to be true. As I recall it, there were gushing, mushy tales about how Angela helped people find themselves. Angela’s whimsy Career Protocol website had a flash and a flare that other consultants’ marketing materials lacked. It was friendly, engaging, delightful, and optimistic. I was skeptical. Could an MBA admissions counselor really deliver on enlightenment? Could she or he really make such a taxing process enjoyable? I wanted to believe it was possible, but would it come at the expense of rigor, professionalism, or results? Angela was clearly very good at marketing herself. In fact, she billed herself as a master communicator and storyteller. And if that were true, she could be selling me a pipe dream. Despite my skepticism, I decided to explore Angela further, because I felt more excited about her than the other consultants. The questions that I had to answer on her website just to sign up for a free consultation forced me to think more deeply than I had before about who I was, what I cared about, and what I hoped to accomplish in my life. These sound like daunting subjects, and they are – but Angela broke down the questions in a way that made answering them surprisingly effortless and even enjoyable. I got even more excited. Over the phone, Angela gave me her honest take on my candidacy—the good and the bad—which was distinct from the purely rosy pictures that other consultants gave me. Evidently, she was an optimist, but she was also very much a realist. I believed that she would push harder to help me present my candidacy in the best possible light because she understood what the pitfalls in my profile might be. Speaking with her energized me. She made me feel comfortable, plus she was fun and funny. She told me that the only regrets her clients have ever had in working with her is that they didn’t take the bigger risks in their applications that she had advised them to take. I knew then that I had to work with Angela. When I started working with Angela, one of the things that immediately stood out to me about her was her energy, wit, and speed. I could barely get my stream of consciousness thoughts on the table before Angela synthesized them. Both her IQ and EQ are absolutely off the charts. Angela made me feel comfortable enough to share my most absurd aspirations and my deepest insecurities with her—which enabled her to give me razor-sharp insights and advise me on how to mitigate the weakest points in my applications. Angela now knows me better than even my closest friends and family. She even helped me get to know myself better, which is one of the greatest gifts she gave me. When it got to essay-writing, I often found myself overwhelmed with feedback from my friends and colleagues. Everyone had an opinion, and I was conflicted about how to use their feedback. When I took all their feedback on an early draft of one of my essays, it became a garbled Frankenstein, and I had to start over. It really stuck with me when Angela made the astute point that each individual only knows what worked for themselves—but every individual is different, so what worked for them won’t necessarily work for me. It was so helpful to have Angela as a third-party, unbiased expert I could trust to help me discern which pieces of feedback were valid, and which would dilute my personal voice and weaken my essays. She knew when to tell me to tune out what everyone else says and what I believed admissions committees wanted to hear and to write purely from my own heart. On that topic, while Angela’s somewhat unorthodox “no line editing” policy made me a little nervous at first, it proved to be the best approach, because it allowed me to find my own voice and feel true ownership over my essays and the offers of admission that I ultimately received. When it came to interviews, Angela was also incredibly helpful. Confidence in interviews has always been my biggest challenge – so, when an interview for my top-choice school got on the calendar, I was pretty nervous. I did some practice with Angela a few days before, but I was still afraid, and Angela sensed it. Out of the blue, she sent me an encouraging email telling me how great I was and outlining the things I should keep in mind going into the interview. This was a striking instance of Angela going above and beyond her call of duty because she genuinely cared about me and wanted me to succeed. I am so grateful for that. I don’t mean to be too sappy, but I love Angela. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to get to know her and learn from her. She is amazing and one-of-a-kind. I only have the highest praise for Angela—as an MBA admissions counselor, an intellectual force, a captivating storyteller and writer, and most importantly, a genuine, empathetic human who is a role model for me.
Intro Thanks to Poets&Quants’ MBA event in Tate Modern on March 3, 2018, I was linked to Angela, although we didn’t meet up in person and I didn’t think of using a consultant for my MBA application at that moment. It proved me wrong until I failed my first MBA interview later, but luckily I happened to connect with Angela. I guess Poets&Quants has that credit, so thanks a lot. I could never be so assertive to face my dream and to make it real, if I had never spent the last four months with Angela in taking her online course SPITR, reading her new released book Interview Hero, and asking for her advice in my MBA plan. SPITR The moment I decided to attend SPITR was almost the darkest moment in my life. No exaggeration at all – I lost 10 kg last year when making my own business plan, integrating my resources, and building up my team. Not to mention, I had loads of essays to finish for my University College London program at the same time. Until I was back to China, for a while I had been stuck among tough decisions to launch my business. It was the period that I realized how struggling or stressed life could be for a fresh entrepreneur. If you have ever read anything written by Angela, you could imagine both of her contagious enthusiasm and therapeutical enlightenment I felt when I at first time read Angela’s email about SPITR – the online course designed to crush consulting case interview and beyond. As a management consulting fan and a passionate entrepreneur, I appreciate all business thinking skills and communication techniques woven into the 3-month online course SPITR. Applying immediately to my daily life what I had learned from Angela and Nicolas – our super gentle mentor used to work in McKinsey, I optimized my business model and attracted more like-minded to my team. On the other hand, I witnessed my personal growth during this course in three aspects. Firstly, I had more awareness of myself and more empathy for others. For example, I could stand on others’ shoes while sticking to my own goal. Secondly, I practiced more in my daily life the philosophy – less is more – so that I felt I had made life easier for both me and others. Thirdly, I re-built my confidence when receiving unconditional support no matter how awkward my answer was in the SPITR classroom. Maybe someday I cannot remember any micro skill I have learned in the SPITR course, but I definitely will remember – vividly – the positive energy I have obtained from Angela and Nicolas. Interview Hero As luck would have it, Angela published her first book – Interview Hero – during our SPITR course. I have been eager to improve my interview techniques especially in English since I failed my first MBA interview months ago, so I bought Angela’s book with my curiosity. I would like to confess that I have a deeper connection with Angela after reading her book Interview Hero. Before, when taking the SPITR course, I did admire Angela’s power of making our online learning experience fun and inspiring and she was more like a highly experienced teacher to me. Now, after reading through her book word by word, she is more like a best friend from the western part of the earth to me. I have no doubt that she has a magic allowing her to connect with others, to find the best in others, and to help others to be their best selves. You might be curious about how Interview Hero brings me closer to Angela. I would like to boil it down to three points – the mindset, the insider perspective, and the style. As for the mindset, there are three mindsets running through the book – friendship, humble confidence, and enthusiasm. Plus, there are relevant explanations and real experiences revealing different outcomes people might have when going to interview with and without these mindsets. Not to mention interviews, I can feel positive changes when I keep these mindsets in mind. If I want to make a friend not to make a deal, people might be more interested in what I am talking. If I stay humble confidently, people might trust not double what I am saying. If I can share my enthusiasm about what I am doing, people might be so moved or inspired that they want to meet me again. Obviously, these three mindsets could be applied to myriad situations in my life rather than interviews. With regard to the insider perspective, Angela breaks down the interview into 7 classic stages and demystifies how interviewers would think, behave and feel during interviews. To help us conquer those stages, she provides multiple formulas and diversified frameworks for different situations. More essentially, she continually invites me to reflect on myself, to be aware of my inner voice, to nourish my specialty, and to bring out my better self. I feel like she never intends to show me the only one true way but wants to help me find my own unique path to shine. How happy I will be if I can find my own path to shine? Words cannot describe lol! Again, who cares for your happiness? Your family, your lover, and your best friends! Therefore, Angela feels like one of my best friends who I regret that I could have met earlier than the Poets&Quants event! When it comes to the style of Interview Hero, I would say it is an innovative textbook written in a readable structure with vivid descriptions. It never bores me because Angela always links her points to her journey in the real world and her journey seems like a movie to me. Besides, her sense of humor frequently caught me in surprise so that I didn’t have the chance to drift away from my long time reading. It is not that easy as it seems. I am curious about how deep should she settle down to the level of humanity care so that she can make a pure Chinese easily understand her sense of humor? So I am kind of sure that Interview Hero is not just a book for interviewees, but for everybody who cares for personal growth, interpersonal communication, and a better society. I have seen improvements in my daily life since I knew with Angela last October. I have made several new friends in my life, received more support for my own start-up, and catch sight of some exciting collaborations in the future. Besides, I become more clear of my priority in the current stage after discussing my MBA plan with Angela. MBA Coaching with Angela Life is unexpected, just as I never expected that I would know Angela by starting with her online course SPITR, reading her first published book Interview Hero later, and getting her guidance about my MBA plan with her in the end. Usually, people might do it in the completely opposite order – firstly MBA consulting, then Interview training, and finally SPITR course – according to the natural developing process. I was surprised when I realized that I was working with Angela in an ‘anti-nature’ order, but more surprised when I thought back and never found any moment that Angela tried to arrange me into the supposedly ‘right’ order. I not only have a good time interacting with Angela but also witness my personal growth in many aspects. I have to say, it is the most natural, humanized, and tailor-made way of consulting or helping I have ever had in my life! In other cases, many consultants might lose patience in me or ask me to follow the fixed routine. Even they realize that I might have my own concern – if an MBA is a MUST for me in the current stage, for many reasons they might still guide me to the application consulting process. Angela proves that she is different. With Angela’s expertise, I am sure she has the power to help me become an interview hero who can crush any interview in my life. However, she is the one who asks me to face my concern and be myself. I sincerely appreciate that! An angel and her team have boiled decades of experience into a 1-year program and that is the Irresistible MBA package. If I had known this package 5 years ago, for sure I could have saved considerable time in searching for my goals in my life. Although I have not yet hit targets I set in both short-term and long-term, I have more confidence that I can make my dreams come true in the expected future. More essentially, I am happier than ever before, because I have seemed clearer of who I am, what I want to achieve, and how I can make it work than ever before. I sincerely appreciate all the energy I have obtained from Angela and her team!
Here’s a standard testimonial: I’m almost certain that without Angela’s guidance, I would not have gained admission to several M7 programs, including a full scholarship and Forte Fellowship at my first-choice school. Here’s what’s different about Angela: She helps her clients truly understand who they are and where they’re going. When I started the application process, I was preparing to gloss over the seemingly odd pivots that I had made in my academic and professional career. Angela was able to help me trace the trajectory of my life and understand how each inflection was an important expression of my unique set of experiences and values. Understanding my story not only made for a few great essays—it empowered me to move through my applications, my interviews and my life with greater confidence in who I am and who I want to be. I have no doubt that I’ll continue to reap the benefits of our work together for many years to come.
Having wrapped up my business school application season, I can confidently say that deciding to work with Angela and her team at Career Protocol was possibly the most critical decision I made in the process. I spoke with over half a dozen consultants/firms before my initial call with Angela. A few minutes in, the choice was obvious. While talking with most consultants I could feel this analysis going on in their minds of my odds of being placed into what tier of the program and where I would fit in their roster of clients for the round. Worse, some largely ignored what I said and instead pushed their own puzzling ideas of paths and programs for me. From the beginning, Angela wasn’t there to talk about schools and stats, and instead showed the most genuine interest in my story — an authentic curiosity about myself, my experiences, and my motivations. I firmly believe it is this element that sets Angela and Career Protocol apart from their peers. She is a staunch defender of “you” and maintaining honesty of your voice and message. Everyone talks about how the admissions process is “holistic”, and Angela’s laser-focus on the human element and you as an individual above the dogma of what adcoms are looking for really exemplified this approach. In working with Angela, I can say she holds herself and her clients to an extremely high standard. I remember my most frustrating part of the process was regarding the reworking of a particular essay. She was excited that my first draft had shown great promise, and after rounds of revisions, I was feeling quite pleased with what it had become. She was not. Through my protests and belief that it was good enough, Angela recommended we shelve the effort and return to it later. To spare you boring details, I ended up largely scrapping that older version and creating one that was unequivocally better, which likely played no small part in getting accepted to my top-choice program. During the final days leading up to submitting a key app, the main consultant I was working with was scheduled to become unavailable. Through mostly my own fault, I wasn’t quite as close to completion as I should be. During that mildly stressful race to the finish line, Angela was always there — responsive and friendly through a marathon of last-minute tweaks, always with an incredibly sharp eye and incisive questions. When considering working with Career Protocol, make no mistake — nobody’s writing anything for you. The burden is yours. Instead, I would say Angela and her team push and challenge you to reflect deeper than the essay prompts to find the best and most honest version of yourself. I would highly recommend Angela because, by the end of the process, it didn’t even really feel like it was about schools, but instead about figuring out what I wanted and producing something I was truly proud of. And hey, landing my dream offer didn’t hurt either.
I read a book in which the main character (a trainee server at a high-end restaurant) is told that 49% of her job is mastering the mechanics of serving, but the other 51% of the job can’t actually be trained for. You just have to be born a 51 percenter, or someone with the empathy, compassion, and intuition necessary to excel at making people feel seen and taken care of. I couldn’t help but remember this passage when trying to explain why working with Angela was so valuable. Plenty of consultants can offer you the 49% percent, including Angela: her deep expertise about the admissions process saved me so much time and angst versus navigating all the competing advice out on the Web. But I really chose Angela because it was clear she also had the 51%. Applying to b-school feels like walking down a hall of mirrors. You spend all this time internalizing marketing messages from schools and selling yourself back to them that you can sometimes forget exactly who you are and what you want. But not with Angela! She is a grounding force who will help you article your values and develop the confidence to present yourself with clarity. I applied to 6 schools total but chose the 3 core school package. Angela gave terrific, honest input on which 3 schools we should focus on together. I was anxious at first and feared winding up without any to continue working on with Angela come interview season. But between Angela’s high-level advice on the other 3, and her universally applicable storytelling and interview coaching lessons, I was ultimately really delighted by the level of support I received on the full 6. And if all of this sounds overly fluffy, I’d also add that Angela’s instincts extend to knowing when to give it to you straight, no bullshit. That’s worth a LOT. In the end, I got 4 offers with scholarship money and made the super tough call between Tuck and Kellogg. I don’t know how I would have survived the process without Angela’s guidance and feel lucky to be embarking on my MBA this fall with my head screwed on tight!
Angela’s motivational energy, refreshing creativity, and witty humor made the process of applying to business school surprisingly a lot of fun! It was so comforting and inspiring to have an educated buddy advising me throughout the entire process, and thanks to her, I was admitted to my top choice business school as a Forte Fellow. Though even more meaningful than the admission alone was that Angela set me up for success in business school and beyond: answering questions about what’s important to me and bringing to light my key stories to prepare me for future interviews. Because of this thoughtful reflection with Angela, I now feel totally prepared for the MBA with confidence in where I’m starting from, which is especially valuable to me as a younger-than-average MBA student. I highly recommend Angela if you want to be successful in the MBA admissions process and life in general!
Working with Angela was a transformational experience. Not only did I receive acceptances to the two programs to which I applied, I also discovered a lot about myself in the process. I reached out to Angela after speaking with several other P&Q top-ranked consultants. When I spoke with the other consultants, each told me: “This is what you need to do to get into X school.” With Angela, it was different. She asked me deep questions that caused me to pause, reflect, and think about who I was and where I was heading. Angela helped me ask the right questions instead of giving me the right answers. Instead of “Let me tell you….” it was “Tell me more….” As a result, I came out of the process with a deeper confidence in myself and with deeper clarity about my goals. Angela’s materials are wonderful. Her Discovery Template had me dig deep into my history to explore the common threads of my life. My somewhat all-over-the-place work history made quite a bit more sense to me (and the adcoms!) after this initial exercise. With this newfound understanding of where I had been, I was better able to communicate where I was going. I am beyond thrilled to be starting an executive MBA this year and, as a result of working with Angela, feel ready to hit the ground running and get everything possible out of the program. I cannot recommend Angela highly enough!
When I signed up with Angela, I thought I was signing up just for MBA applications but little did I know… I’d read reviews about how working with Angela is like “an MRI for your soul” – how accurate that was. The work we did before starting a single application is something that I still use and will continue to. I started out worried that I might not look so impressive on paper but Angela really went in-depth and we framed my story in a way that showcased my past experiences but also explained my future goals. We’d spent so much time on this that by the time I was writing my final few essays, we didn’t need more than 1 draft! (The first one took 8 drafts.) All the work I’ve done with Angela (+ her AMAZING Interview Hero course – shameless plug) has been so worth it. I attended Welcome Weekend recently and have been meeting recruiters since and I find it much easier to explain my industry (Private Equity) to people who have no idea what it is. I even had a job interview since and her tactics in Interview Hero helped me troubleshoot points where I was stuck. It’s become a lot easier to talk about myself and my goals in a way that doesn’t feel disingenuous. Angela really helped me take ownership of this process – the stories had to be my own and had to feel right to me. My favorite thing about Angela, and the main reason I signed up with her, is that she’s more than a coach; she’s your cheerleader through the process. It’s a tough and emotionally draining process but she’s so supportive throughout, you really feel like she’s on your team. I HIGHLY recommend signing up with her!!
I am a current second-year student at Booth and was first introduced to Angela this past summer whiling interning at a job that was not a good fit for me – either personally or professionally. Coming back to Booth, I felt completely lost as I always envisioned myself accepting my summer internship offer. However, working with Angela helped me figure out where my true professional interests, my personal strengths and most importantly: What was going to make me happiest after I graduate from Booth. She gently challenged me to no longer “go with the flow” of what my classmates are doing and encouraged me to figure out who I am and what are my values. Finally, she taught me to articulate stories that illuminate such values, in a way that highlighted my personality and excitement for the opportunity I was interviewing for. Thanks to Angela, I was able to get an offer at my top choice job. When the Company called to give me the offer, the feedback they had was that I: “Told amazing stories.” I am very thankful to Angela and highly recommend her to anyone interested in personal and professional development.
I met Angela first at the Forte MBALaunch Kickoff, where she led a workshop on Narrative Theory and How to Tell Your Story — a session that was like nothing and no-one else in the MBA admissions world and boy did it work! I was working with one other attendee to tell our stories and then rework them using Angela’s tips and they went from bland, with little drama, to heartfelt, powerful and convincing! All of the stories we heard that day after she taught us were riveting and made me want to hire the person speaking! Add to that Angela’s joyful and humorous approach and I knew immediately that I wanted to work with her. She brought not just her storytelling skills, but finely tuned strategic mind (she did work at BCG, after all) and her acute understanding of human nature to the task of helping me build a compelling application, as well as prepare for interviews. I felt like I was in great hands and would recommend Angela to anyone looking for a great admissions expert and executive coach!
After one conversation with Angela, I knew she was the perfect MBA coach for me. I initially had doubts about being a minority candidate with an average GRE score, but Angela’s familiarity with each school and her confidence in my story was all I needed to apply to only M7 schools. In fact, she never even asked me what my GRE score was. While other consultants were worried about checking the boxes on my test score and GPA, Angela focused on helping me submit the most well-rounded application possible. Her ability to shine light on my greatest strengths really helped me create amazing essays; but it’s also what gave me confidence through this tough process. At the school events I attended, when I saw other people freaking out about their test scores and backgrounds, I was totally calm because I knew my application was a holistic view of my journey. I ended up with a GRE score 10 points below what other consultants said I needed, but I got into Columbia and Wharton with a 310. It just goes to show that Angela was right, and it was my story that schools cared about. I was content with every application after submitting and was not surprised to be admitted. She even sent me a bottle of champagne to celebrate!
No secret sauce, no sugar coating, no school specific tricks. She listens to you with a fresh mind. This is her most powerful secret that brings out the best in her clients. I have admits from INSEAD and IESE and I truly could not have stood out without sounding authentic in my application, and she made sure I did. When I first started working with Angela, I was looking for her to give me school specific advice and teach me how to sound appealing to individual schools. I was so wrong. She does exactly the opposite. She wants you to narrate your story, and your values with passion in the most authentic way. The fact that she only focuses on the essay question and not the school made my essays sound both personal and real- and this is exactly what the schools are looking for. I would also like to point out that her CV building tips is one of the best resources I have come across online. I have got great feedback on my one-page CV. And of course, my story has its share of failures but Angela was there to help me re-strategize and refocus. She has taken phone calls with me with just 2 hours notice. She becomes your friend in this admissions journey. Every time you hear her say “hello my friend”, it feels so comforting. Angela- truly a breath of fresh air!
Angela is a great MBA consultant if you’re looking for someone who tells it like it is, is genuine and honest and wants to help you bring out the best of your story in an authentic way. I met Angela as an MBA Launcher through Forté Foundation and got started on my MBA journey with her You Discovery Toolkit. It was the first (very important) step in getting all my motivations and story out into one clear place. I used my Toolkit a lot as I went through the application process to pull out relevant stories and meaningful experiences. I met Angela in person at our MBA Launch event and was even more impressed with her in person: she is smart, confident and speaks with authority. She gave us excellent information and paired that with helpful exercises to test our skills. I also benefitted from Angela’s resources in her multiple webinars that she did for the MBA Launchers, showing her dedication by staying up until 2am to provide us with awesome information and support. I also love how all of her resources are written as if you’re speaking to a friend, it really helps break up the stress of MBA applications. If you’re looking for someone who is tough but fair, who truly has your best interests at heart and knows how to help you tell an authentic story, I would highly recommend Angela.
Angela has provided by far the best resources I’ve come across in my MBA application journey. Her You Discovery Toolkit launched me into a new way of thinking about the skills and strengths I should put forward in my applications, and her Resume guidance has completely transformed the way I write a resume. She inspires a new way of storytelling that is both honest and empowered, and provides super practical tips for weaving this story into every component of the MBA app process. Angela is truly passionate in helping others to succeed – as evidenced by the fact she regularly volunteers her time (at 2am, no less) to lead Webinars for Forte Forum’s MBALaunch program. Beyond this passion, Angela brings a super refreshing sense of humor to the process that makes her even more effective and enjoyable to work with. I’d highly recommend her and Career Protocol.
I decided to take YOMO from CareerProtocol because, as a potential career switcher I did not know where to start and I thought the summer was a good time to get prepared for the recruiting process. I got much more than I asked for! Through a structured set of videos, assignments and most importantly, direct coaching with Angela, the course helps you discover and analyze your passions and interests, and fix/improve/or totally rework the basic tools you’ll need to do this i.e. networking strategies, CV, linkedin, career services insights. You will also hear more about the recruiting and networking process from an experienced insider and get to meet former and current MBAs and learn about their own experiences. It may sound cheesy but personally, the self-reflection part about my past and future is what I found most valuable. I feel this has helped me hone in my future career path. I find that invaluable as I feel more focused and prepared to start my Stanford MBA journey. Totally worth it!
Angela is a career consulting wizard. In YOMO, Angela gets you to answer those tough, soul-searching questions you’d rather avoid (e.g. what do you want to achieve in life? what are your greatest strengths? how do you effectively communicate who you are to a recruiter?) through approachable exercises, concise and engaging presentations, and a great sense of humor. Each week consists of a webinar, video lessons, downloadable reading materials, and a few homework items (that pre-MBAs should be doing anyway!) Participants also get the opportunity to have Angela’s real-time undivided attention in multiple coaching sessions during the course. I really appreciated her recruiting templates and guides for polishing resumes and LinkedIn profiles, which removed a lot of guesswork. Angela’s guidance definitely boosted my confidence regarding my goals for my next career move, which will help me stay focused when presented with the myriad options business school provides. I highly recommend this course and Angela’s services in general, particularly to someone considering a career pivot.
Working with Angela has been an invaluable introspective journey and a transformational experience, which culminated with the admission to Chicago Booth – my dream MBA program. Thinking back six months ago, I’m convinced that hiring Angela has been a great decision and without her probably I would have not been accepted into any top MBA program. After my application to Harvard was rejected, I decided I needed some help if I was going to succeed. I felt overwhelmed by the amount of information available on the internet. Angela played a pivotal role in three fundamental areas: process guidance, storytelling, and stress management. First, Angela has been my trusted guide throughout the process. Given the tremendous amount of disorganized “noise” around MBA application processes (e.g. blogs, forums, websites, etc.), it’s key to have a reliable source of guidance. Angela walked me through the process and precisely defined my deliverables at each step – I felt hugely relieved because I could efficiently focus on value-adding tasks (e.g. writing my essays, improving my CV, preparing the GMAT, etc.) instead of wasting valuable time on finding information and sorting out bureaucracy (e.g. finding the best CV template, learn how to brief my recommenders, etc.). Second, I would have never (and I underline NEVER!) been able to come up with such a strong essay by myself – this is particularly important for applications to schools such as Booth, which have a free format for the essay question. At the beginning of our cooperation, Angela made me do a thorough exploration of my personality, passions, and career to date. Through this process, I not only learned A LOT about myself (our fast-paced lives leave us very little time to self-reflect), but I also provided Angela with all the information and insights to come up with a strong, persuasive, and compelling story about myself and about why I would be a strong addition to the Booth’s class. Last, but definitely not least, Angela represented my rock-solid point of reference in all stressful circumstances throughout the process. Applying for MBA proved to be even more stressful than expected, especially when you get bad news first and you are, as me, a quite anxious person. Thanks to Angela I was able to minimize the stress and use more productively my time to focus on tasks that really mattered. During my applications, Angela gave me motivation, structure, and reassurance. She brought out the best of me and created the structure for a very compelling story for my essay. Without her expert guidance and powerful storytelling skills, I would have never learned so much about myself and probably, I would have never been accepted into my dream MBA program. But that’s not all! After I got the good news, I turned right around and took Angela’s YOMO class – a great way to have a head start on MBA recruiting. The coaching and practical advice that Angela gave me in this course were tremendously useful not only to pinpoint the industry I want to recruit for, but also to prepare for networking and recruiting in the US – something very intimidating for an international student like me. P.S. Working with Angela is always very fun! And trust me, having some good laughs together is a great way to reduce the stress generated by the application process.
I’m considering applying for MBA in the next few years and have found YOMO to be really helpful in finding out what to expect from an MBA program and prepare yourself to make clear your career goals and get what to you want out of an MBA program. The YOMO workshop also provides very handy tools and instructions such as MBA Resume Protocol, The LinkedIn Profile Protocol, The networking resources, Company Research Template, etc. that could be directly used for job search. As an MBA currently in process of job searching, I have found all of those resources to be really helpful.
I took Angela’s YOMO course to kick start my recruitment strategy before I start my MBA this fall at Kellogg. At first I was hesitant to spend the money since I’ll be broke over the next two years in school but I am SO glad I took the course! There are 5 webinars and over 5 hours of group coaching from Angela where you work on both intangible things like your values and your career wishlist and tangible things like your resume and networking skills (p.s ask her to help you with your elevator pitch :P) The course also gives you access to her books and reading material which I plan to reread as I go through recruitment. It was so helpful to have a structured approach to thinking about my career during my summer off and learn how to craft great introductions which I used throughout the summer when meeting alums. Because of the course I feel like I have much more clarity on whats pragmatic for my next career choice and now I can test my hypothesis in school! If you are wondering if the course is worth it, IT IS! DO IT!
Any MBA admit who is even the slightest bit nervous about starting the next chapter in their career journey and wants to get a head start on recruiting needs to take Angela’s YOMO course! The course combines collaborative learning and weekly webinars with incredible guest speakers from a wide variety of industries and functional areas. In addition, the numerous guides that Angela created are both engaging and truly helped me better understand what I want to achieve out of my MBA program. I look forward to joining another one of Angela’s courses in the near future 🙂
Angela is wicked smart, not to mention a pleasure to listen to. The resources she has provided, such as a the MBA Resume Protocol and the Discovery You Toolkit were instrumental in helping me reflect on my professional accomplishments in business-school friendly terms, and think deeply about how my experiences have shaped why I want to go to business school and what i hope to gain from it. She makes the application process manageable and fun, and helps take out some of the mystery of the adcom.
Angela was a great coach during the Forte MBA Launch program. I am really grateful they choose her as one of our coaches. She provided useful content. I especially liked the resumé webinar we had. Overall, it was all useful including learning how to create my story. Therefore, I recommend her services to people needing help with their MBA application process.
I was lucky enough to get Angela’s help though the Forte Foundation MBA launch and she was by far the best constultant the program partnered with. The best things about Angela is how personable she is and how truly excited she is to be helping everyone that she works with. Even though I was viewing Angela’s presentations online, you could feel her energy though the webinars. Angela’s help on tailoring your resume for business schools was incredible. She gave us 3 tests to run our bullet points by to make sure that the way we described what we did at work had the most impact. Breaking it down this way helped me best explain the impact I had on my company and not just list the tasks I perform. I also took a lot away from her presentation on writing the MBA essays. Her advice about staying true to yourself and imaging the admissions person that will be reading your essay helped me write an essay that I truly feel represents who I am and not who I think the admissions teams wants me to be.
Angela Guido is absolutely awesome. I have personally used her services through the recommendations of a family member and after having an amazing experience, have recommended her to my sister and several friends. Her program, YOMO, played a role in helping me realize I wanted to take a risk with my MBA summer while at Booth and go down the entrepreneurial path. This summer, in between my first and second year of my MBA program, I am working full time on launching my own business through Chicago Booth’s accelerator program and I am so excited about it! The class is awesome because it helps you dedicate time to realize what you are really looking for in a career. I highly recommend it!!
I have been working with Angela for the last few months and got into my dream school for an Executive MBA and have her to thank. Her energy and humor made our calls enjoyable and her skills and ability to pivot quickly made this dream of mine come true. How else is she different than other consultants? 1) Her values and integrity shine through and remained consistent since the beginning: When I first chatted with Angela during the free consultation, she actually tried to talk me out of working with her or any other consultant. Based on my work experience and the way I communicated about what I needed, she didn’t want me to spend money and time unnecessarily and kept referring to it as an investment. This (along with her values of purpose and intention for her business) is what drew me to her and set her apart from every other consultant I chatted with before choosing Angela. Engaging with any consultant IS an investment of time and money and I appreciated that Angela had that same mindset from the get go. I knew I needed help in a way I couldn’t communicate and lo and behold, much of what we worked on were communication skills. 2) Angela had the skills and background to listen, speak my language and help me translate into “business language”: My work experience for close to 10 years was in the social sector and the hardest challenge for me was learning a new language and speaking to a MBA Admissions audience. What I appreciated about Angela is her keen skills in listening, making you feel comfortable from the beginning and being able to get to the root/base/solution quickly and efficiently. After the first or second call, she understood why I wanted a MBA, why I was struggling to communicate and gave support in learning a different way to illustrate my accomplishments and achievements. 3) Her “interview hero” course is awesome, unique and will have value after you apply: Angela’s video course on interviewing and other communication skills really stood out to me. I know she has a course just on this, but this skill is invaluable to most professionals and I know many (myself included) who struggle with this. Her course was interactive, visually appealing and easy to digest for dissemination. Every lesson had templates for engagement so I was able to improve and build upon my skills as I went through the modules. Not to mention that I will use these skills in the future so it’s a service that is worth its weight in gold. I cannot speak highly enough of Angela and the important work she’s doing not only helping clients reach their grad school dreams, but helping people find their purpose. We need more people like her in the business world!
Angela truly is a ROCKSTAR. Angela has been an amazing mentor throughout entirety of my business school experience; her YOMO course was awesome in prepping for my career-switch ahead, and she was there as my support system with wise words and humor throughout the whole process. If you want to work with someone who will actually make any part of the business school / career search process fun, look no further. Working with Angela took me on a journey through my past chock-full of self-discovery and self-realization around every turn, leading to a well-laid out story for my successful career switch. Granted, she will have you work your tail off to squeeze all of the potential out of you, but it will be more than worth it in the end. The X-Factor that makes Angela so awesome is how much fun she is to work with. Every call involved lots of laughter and each email was littered with lighthearted emojis. Throughout the process, it felt like I was not just working with a consultant but was working with a friend. She has an aura about her that immediately makes you comfortable talking to her and sharing all of your deepest, most meaningful stories with. Work with Angela – you won’t regret it!
I signed on for Angela’s You Only MBA Once (YOMO) course, which turned out to be instructive, inspirational and fairly comprehensive. YOMO was great for me, because it was fairly priced, far cheaper than a one-to-one careers advisor session and it still covered all the bases. In fact, it did a better job than a top MBA school’s careers advisor did and I later introduced the course to my other MBA friends. Those who signed on loved the course as much as I did, because it was well structured, covering the basic areas like CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and also going into areas like what you value and what you want. Every topic starts with a video and there are downloadable PDF files that provide quick guidance or document templates. Unlike many other careers advisors, Angela urged her students to discover what we really value, what drives us, what we have been successful in and what we are good at. Her encouragement for students to be more introspective helps career explorers to really think about our next step, rather than jumping on the bandwagon and grabbing the first job that presents itself. The goal here is to match your skills against a dream job that will give you a purpose and a community. Because of Angela’s guidance, I had the confidence to turn down prestigious opportunities, holding out for a job that would be more sustainable in the long-run, giving me purpose and more relevant skills for the future. Angela’s cheerful guidance, positivity and genuine concern for her students (she took things one step further and introduced me to contacts who could share job or company insights with me) made me glad to have chosen Career Protocol to supplement my MBA school’s careers services. It is one of the best career decisions that I have ever made. Thank you, Angela!
Although I had a well thought out story to communicate during the MBA application process, I was still unsure which career I wanted to pursue. Therefore, after getting into business school, I approached Angela to help me clarify my career goals and MBA recruiting strategy. My first assignment was to fill out a document that captured my accomplishments, failures, preferences, etc. and I exhaustively completed it. I wrote a ton and provided a bunch of supporting documents from performance reviews to journal entries to personality assessments. I totally overloaded Angela with information about me and needed her to help make sense of it all and find themes. In fact, I was desperate for thoughtful feedback. I had hit a wall personally and professionally and had been searching for answers to no avail. A few takeaways from Angela’s response. • Her observations resonated with me and were really insightful. She saw themes and characteristics that I couldn’t articulate. Even now, I frequently reference her comments as I continue to think about my personal brand. • She read and went through everything I sent, even the stuff I told her not to worry about; this was significant because of how much stuff I sent her. On our debriefing call, she made reference to a random and minor comment I made in one of my “exhibits.” I was pleasantly surprised by her attention to detail and thoroughness. It demonstrated a true commitment to helping me. • She told me that nothing was wrong with me and that I had a lot of great qualities. She was enthusiastic about what I brought to the table and incredibly optimistic about the next phase of my career. I needed to hear this, and I needed someone to genuinely believe in me. While I would like to attribute the connection she made to how special I am, it’s more appropriate to acknowledge how adept Angela is at finding the awesomeness that lies in everyone. • She identified roles that would potentially be a good fit for me. Her rationale was rooted in my strengths, personality, and experiences. Thoughtful and logical theories about the next step for me were what I was looking for. She provided that and I am not sure where else I could have gotten that level of individualized insight and guidance. It armed me with the information I needed to identify my internship criteria and hit the ground running from day one with MBA recruiting. Since then, I have used Angela for networking and interview guidance. Below are two noteworthy areas in which she has helped me improve. • With her assistance, I have been able to get in front of the interview topics I am uneasy about and craft logical answers that I believe in, that capture my voice, that help me control the narrative, and that follow the “formula” for success. • With behavioral questions, she has given me the blueprint to tease out the details, highlight my choices, and frame my experiences in a compelling way. My improvement is particularly evident when I speak about my non-sexy accomplishments, the ones that do not necessarily prove my potential as a senior executive. Angela approaches career coaching with a fresh perspective that intertwines how we connect with others and how we tell a good story. I have appreciated this type of thoughtfulness and her level of expertise in all of these areas. I view her as a highly skilled communicator, and for that reason, she has been the perfect sounding board.
As a marketing and branding nerd, I’ve always been fairly well in tune with how I’ve conveyed my personal brand. My resume has always been up to date, LinkedIn on point, and I’ve worked on creating value for others through my strong network. Or so I thought… After an hour long consultation with Angela on my resume, I realized just how much work I had ahead of me. Even in that short time, Angela was able to challenge my thinking and get me to see the benefits of truly starting to break down my resume and build it back up — and as someone who is fairly headstrong, this is not an easy feat. She gave strategic advice on how to frame the resume and supported that feedback with some great tactics on how to ensure each bullet on the resume tells a story. I certainly saw the light by the end of the conversation! Not only was this one-on-one advice incredibly helpful (my resume is in a MUCH better place), she has some ridiculously helpful documents to assist in the MBA process. The Explore Your Experiences document is something that has guided my entire MBA process and has even helped me realize area for personal + professional growth before even entering an MBA program. This document was a great thought starter, and I’m definitely referencing daily as I craft my essays now. Finally – her essay advice was some of the most valuable guidance that I’ve received throughout the application process. She provides incredible guidance on how to ensure the essay conveys another facet of what makes a candidate a little more unique or interesting. Of the blogs, forums, webinars, I’ve seen so far – Angela’s was far and away the most strategic, relevant, and insightful. I honestly can’t say enough about the support and guidance Angela has provided. She has an incredible knack for being able to challenge your thinking & assumptions, in the best way possible! I’m a huge fan and certainly grateful for the opportunity to learn from her!
I met Angela through the Forte Foundation’s MBA Launch program and her insights were instrumental to my success in the business school admissions process. Employing the advice she gave us Launchers, I was accepted to multiple schools with a total of $340K of scholarships. But in the end, Angela’s coaching has been even more valuable to me since I started my MBA at an M7 school last fall. Coming from a nontraditional background as a creative liberal arts major working at a small nonprofit, I knew I needed extra oomph to succeed in the ultra-competitive MBA summer internship and job search. This led me back to Angela, this time as her student in two of her online courses, YOMO (You Only MBA Once) and SPITR (How to be the Smartest Person in the Room.) I took YOMO in the spring prior to starting business school – a time when I was confused about what the MBA job market really looked like and anxious about how I would first-semester crush of academics, on-campus recruiting, and adjusting to a completely new lifestyle. YOMO couldn’t have come at a better time. Not only did the course help me get clear on what I really wanted out of the MBA, it inspired me to dream bigger for my future career while motivating me to set ambitious yet realistic, achievable goals for my MBA job search. Angela guided me through a deeply introspective, personal, and FUN process that revealed my true values and mapped them to a career path that would be deeply fulfilling to me. Building on my own insights, my one hour 1:1 with her helped me get to the heart of who I truly am, honestly consider all possible career options, and identify my best fit post-MBA job options. Even though ostensibly I (and every other admitted MBA student) had already formulated a career goal and plan to achieve it in my admissions essays, YOMO helped me fill in the missing piece of the puzzle. When I wrote my essays, I was focused on the external aspect of my career goals – starting from the resources available at the MBA program, combined with my own background and skills, that mapped to a believable career path. With YOMO, I was able to come at my goals with an open mind and the opposite approach – I started with what mattered to me and figured out how I could best use the MBA career options available to get what I truly wanted. Moreover, once I had figured it out, YOMO really gave me the tangible skills I needed to get there – practical job search strategies covering everything from company research to informational interviews to interacting with recruiters. Fast forward to the fall – I was deep into the stressful management consulting on-campus recruiting process. I had no idea what a case interview was or how to prepare for it. Angela’s SPITR course came to the rescue. The live weekly online course really helped me understand the mindset of my interviewers and how to master the case interview. Class format was really fun and engaging, with some lectures plus in-class interviews! I went into interview season feeling confident and prepared. I was thrilled when I got two internship offers, one from the National Parks Service for their Business Plan Internship (internal strategy consulting) and the other from Tata Consultancy Services based in their Seattle office. I will be heading to Seattle this summer and I can’t wait. Thanks to YOMO and SPITR I was able to take on a strenuous MBA program with confidence and clarity and come out with an offer that will help me pivot into a meaningful career in consulting and tech. I couldn’t have done it without Career Protocol! Angela’s energy is always uplifting, motivating and inspirational. She will be a force on your journey to a fulfilling career!
I’m currently an MBA student and I have been working with Angela throughout the years. She has been instrumental in my career development and I can’t thank her enough. She gave me the type of confidence that I needed to keep pushing forward and just knowing that she had my back every step of the way motivated me so much. I had a very different and non-traditional background than most MBA students so my learning curve was quite steep. Working with Angela and completing both her YOMO and SPITR programs have greatly benefited my learning. Not only was I able to immediately put that learning into practice, I also learned how to think in new perspectives when approaching my career. Angela is so much more than a career coach, she is a mentor, motivator, life coach, friend and just an overall marvelous wonderful person. Never in a million years would I have thought a person would had such a profound impact on me and my career. Thank you Angela, you’re the best!!
I first discovered Angela the summer before business school, during a forte foundation networking prep call and i was immediately struck by her deep sense of engagement and exceptional communication skills. Fast forward, i started business school in the fall (i attend an M7 business school) and recruiting for summer internships started shortly thereafter. The whole experience was nerve-wrecking, and while I got an internship in the industry i wanted, i did not get an offer from my dream firm. I started to question my overall communication style and to some extent, my competence for the role and that definitely negatively impacted my confidence. I remembered Angela and quickly searched for her to take advantage of her 30-min complimentary initial ‘diagnosis’ and like one reviewer said below, she immediately understood me. I quickly signed up for a customized service and we worked on trying to make me feel awesome again, did a strengthsfinder assessment and a thorough review of the findings to highlight my strengths and remind me of all the amazing things i have to offer any firm for that matter and that was a huge confidence booster. We have also worked on preparing for informational interviews, introducing myself effectively in a concise and efficient way to make sure that i easily stand out and stay memorable. I sincerely wish i got to work with her before summer internship recruiting started but i am very glad i called her when i did, at least i can still prepare very well for full-time recruiting with her. As another reviewer mentioned, and i was nodding as i read through their review, when you attend a top business school, you assume career services is sufficient in getting you an internship but that is not the case. They have quotas to fill and have numerous amazing and qualified students just like yourself to offer employers, so you have to do the work on your own to stand out and that is why you NEED Angela!!! Please call/email her today. She will definitely be able to help you, whatever your situation is. I will be sure to post an update after full-time recruiting to let you know how things went after working with Angela on that prep.
Prior to MBA interviews, the only thing I had ever interviewed for was my college internship. I crushed those college interviews, but that was …. 8 years ago. “Rusty” didn’t even begin to describe how I felt about interviewing for my MBA. I had learned some things via my Forte MBALaunch fellowship and other admissions consulting services, but they weren’t quite doing it for me. So I signed up for Angela’s Interview Hero course and it CHANGED MY LIFE. Not only did I crush my MBA interviews, I also became a better storyteller in other settings as well – at work, in public speaking, and in friendships. I closely followed the modules that I thought would help me the most, did my “reflection” homework, and practiced my stories over and over. I loved that the course came with live group coaching sessions, because I was able to get feedback from both Angela and my peers. I connected with a couple people in those sessions that went on to help me prep for interviews later in the process. Whether you are starting from scratch (cough, me), intimidated by the interview process, or just want to brush up on your interview skills and storytelling, I would highly recommend this course! #ThankYouAngela
Do you dread talking about career goals in your MBA Application process? I certainly did. I was not afraid of tests and essays, but I was terrified about talking about myself and my journey because, frankly, I didn’t have a clue how to share what I wanted to do! A lot of my fellow MBA applicants fall into this category – we have a nebulous understanding of our strengths and career dreams, and don’t know how to crystallize them into a story. Angela completely changed that for me. Unlike other consultants and advice-givers, Angela starts with YOU as the individual, and forces you to reflect very deeply about yourself. For her, the process of reflection and career mapping is central to the MBA process, and everything unfolds from there. Career mapping should also be fun – and with her, it is! She brings a positive, humorous approach that is incredibly valuable during this often harrowing process. After working with Angela I not only feel crystal clear about my career goals and story, I also feel great about myself and my decision to pursue an MBA. Instead of dread when someone asks me “why do you want an MBA,” I actually get visibly excited to share my story.
During an interview at a well known record label, a hiring manager looked at my resume, then me, and said with exasperation, “I don’t understand why you are applying for this job. Your path makes no sense to me.” While I had a clear vision for the path I wanted to take, I’ve struggled to help others understand. Angela is the first consultant who has understood my career path and my future goals within minutes. She saw connections that I see, but which I’ve struggled to communicate to others. In just the first session alone, Angela provided clear advice with tangible action items that gave me confidence to move forward with the daunting MBA application journey. Her passion for learning and understanding others is infectious in the best way, and she is just as strategic as she is warm and insightful. Would recommend her 10/10.
I got a little emotional writing this, as I leave campus and head off to my or my internship that I dreamed of FIVE years ago!!!! Let me tell you my story. I was in a uniquely challenging position this fall when I was recruiting. I had to take time out of school for personal reasons, so at the time I was applying for consulting internships, I had been neither in school nor working for 2 ½ years. It’s challenging for any student to prepare for consulting interviews, but I felt totally lost. I hadn’t thought about business concepts for years. The fit part seemed even harder to prepare for: how was I supposed to sound authentic and unrehearsed when talking about work experience that happened 3+ years ago. My memory was awful and all the best things from my b school essays (which I’d written 4 years prior) happened so long ago. Even worse, I got really bad feedback from my first mocks interviews. The first current consultant I did a mock with told me I’d lost my business mindset, which made sense – I hadn’t heard words like profitability or competitors for years, let alone things like cannibalization or brand equity. A career coach at HBS told me I just didn’t have it. So I was discouraged. And decided it was worth asking Angela for help. I’d worked with Angela four years prior when she’d helped me get into 4 top 10 business schools, including Harvard, a full-tuition scholarship at Booth, and a partial scholarship at Wharton. You can read my testimonial about that and over 100 more on her website if you’re curious. I’d also worked with her my first time around at business school, when she helped me with recruiting. She helped me decide what it was I wanted to do and then, once I’d decided on consulting, trained me on how to ace the case interview. She also taught me how to network: how to navigate the recruiting events, develop genuine relationships with people I want to connect with, and what questions to ask. You know those people who rock networking events? The ones who are confident but not cocky, can float seamlessly from group to group, and somehow seem to be actual friends with the people you’re there to network with? Angela made me one of those people. I’ll never forget when a consultant at a top firm said to me at a large recruiting event, “you’re my rock at these things.” That’s just one of many moments I knew Angela’s work paid off. Thanks to the networking skills she taught me, I was granted interviews at all of my top choice firms. Because of the personal reasons mentioned above, I never actually interviewed back then, unfortunately, but through her training, I felt confident and got great feedback in mocks with current consultants. So when I found myself in the predicament I was in this fall, I called Angela again. And boy did she deliver. Thanks to Angela, I got offers from both McKinsey and BCG for the summer. Angela helped me with every aspect of the recruiting process. She perfected my resume. She helped me prepare for networking again, reminding me of the tips and tools she’d taught me a few years ago. And most importantly, considering my disadvantages, she helped me prepare for both the case and fit portion of the interviews. Angela has a fail proof method for case interviews. She teaches you how to approach problem solving and how to think in ways that will impress your interviewers. Before my failed mock interviews mentioned above, I’d taken a workshop with David Ohrvall and read the top case interview prep books. They clearly didn’t help. But Angela made me not only know what to do in an interview, but also feel confident! With her tools, I knew I had what it took to get the offer. She also helped me with the fit portion. She helped map my stories to potential questions. But more importantly, similarly to how she taught the skills I needed to network, she taught me how to interview. I learned how to sound confident and show how awesome I was without sounding cocky or showing off. She helped me with challenges like how do I talk in detail about a story from my work experience 4 years ago without sounding rehearsed? How do I talk about the last couple years I was doing nothing? In addition to the quantifiable success of getting the job offer, Angela also made this process so much less stressful. While without Angela, I would have agonized over questions like how to talk about the gap in my resume, when she told me what to do, I trusted her. There are countless questions and times of self-doubt that you’ll have during the recruiting process. Using Angela takes all that anxiety away. I knew what to expect, since we’d worked together twice before, so I wasn’t surprised by how invested in my path Angela was. It always feels like I’m her only client and she genuinely cares about my success more than anybody but my mom. Angela is incredibly responsive and wants to see you through the whole process. After I’d gotten the offers from McKinsey and BCG and was agonizing over which to take (because of the genuine relationships I’d made with people at both firms, thanks to Angela!), she helped me refine my criteria and think of questions to ask to help me make the best decision. Thanks to her, I feel VERY confident I picked the firm that is the best fit. I can not recommend using Angela enough. She will get you the job, but also teach you skills you’ll keep for a lifetime.
As a part of Forte’s 2015 MBALaunch class, for women preparing to apply to business school, Angela is ever-present. She’s the main speaker on at least 6 webinars during the 10-month program, and covers some of the most important material: how to think about the whole MBA application process; how to determine which schools are a good fit; how to tell your story via your resume and your essays; how to communicate your career goals clearly. Angela is clearly having fun, all the while being very candid about her own experience and the mistakes she made. It’s hard not to feel like she’s on your team and rooting for you, a real solace during the long slog of applications. She provides a raft of free, awesome content on her Career Protocol blog, too! But don’t be deceived: she keeps it real, and will give it to you straight if you’re being delusional or if your resume needs some serious work. I signed up for a free 30-min consultation, and she is just the same one-on-one as she is on a webinar destined for 500 people: generous, enthusiastic, authentic, and unsparing in her constructive criticism. The Forte program has been amazing for a number of reasons: the accountability, the support, the community of Launchers, the access to Admissions staff and insider knowledge about schools. Angela is a crucial part of the package.
I originally approached because I was planning to apply to business school, but I quickly realized there were other things I wanted to work on before I applied to business school, so I decided to hire her as my career coach first. I work in the financial services sector (of one of the largest firms) and since I started working with Angela a year and a half ago, I have been promoted (twice), sent to a leadership development class, have been and have been asked to lead a leadership development class. Angela is, without a doubt, the smartest person I know. She can quickly add value to any situation and puts a unique and easy strategy together to achieve success and this is something she is teaching me how to do. She had helped me make a plan that is consistent with my ambitions and held me accountable to that plan. She has helped me communicate better in a variety of circumstances, she helped me prepare for a speech contest (which I won) has helped me prepare for promotion type interviews and my job reviews. I have led several workshops since working with Angela and she has always prepared me well, given me clear and concise information and tips to make sure I come away presenting and performing my best. I could not have asked for a better individual to work with (she was EVERYTHING I was looking for) and I am blessed to have found Angela. I never plan to stop working with Angela for the entirety of my career and when I apply to business school next year, Angela will be there every step of the way.
I found out about Angela in 2016 through the Forté MBALaunch program – she was leading a webinar on telling your story for MBA applications. I loved the session because her advice and content were incredibly thoughtful. Ultimately, I decided to sign up for her MBA career preparation class – YOMO (You Only MBA Once). One of the aims of the class is to position pre-MBA candidates to make the most of their MBA experience by crystalizing their career goals. I found this most helpful during my MBA application process because the YOMO program helped me to crystallize what I want from my career and articulate it incredibly well in my MBA applications, as a result I will be joining the HBS Class of 2020. Taking a step back, I found the self-reflection and self-development exercises (which are incredibly well-designed and curated) particularly insightful in the context of the group coaching sessions. In addition, Angela was incredibly accessible and responsive to any unique questions that I had inside and outside of the group coaching sessions. In addition to her incredible skills and insights as a coach, Angela genuinely sees each person that she coaches as an individual – she takes the time to understand who you are (help you understand who you are) so that she can effectively coach you. She is truly one of a kind among the MBA consultants! I am excited that I will be joining YOMO again in 2018 as I focus on recruiting and telling my story to recruiters.
I am currently an MBA student at an M7 school. I worked with Angela for internship recruiting and interviewing, and with Angela’s coaching, I landed an MBA internship at Goldman Sachs for the summer! The service we did is called “The Interview Hero Coaching Package,” and I also worked with her on the “How to Be The Smartest Person in the Room” I would highly recommend to MBA students that you work with Angela to perfect your interviewing whether you are applying for summer internships or full time positions. As a new MBA student, I figured that the Career Center at my school would be enough of a resource to help me with interviewing and coaching. However, this was not the case. It was not until my friend who previously worked with Angela suggested I reach out to her to get a more objective, personalized opinion. It was so refreshing and nice to work with Angela, someone who was dedicated to me, doing customized interview practice who I knew had my best interests at heart. (Career Services is great, but they had their own objectives which are to appease the companies and the statistics of the school, so I didn’t necessarily trust their advice and they didn’t have much time to do 1:1 interview prep with me that I felt I needed). Career services is simply just so busy with hundreds of students, and the extra support Angela provided enabled me to succeed. In terms of the package, the videos were super useful – they gave mean easy way to organize my thoughts and tell effective stories; even the company research video gave me a super concrete and useful place to start instead of Career services advice to “know a lot about the company.” This gave me more stress because I did not know where to begin when researching companies I was interviewing with! Also, our hour-long sessions were always recorded, so it was easy for me to go back and listen to the advice and critiques Angela gave me. Overall, I valued Angela’s constant, tailored, honest, but supportive feedback and moral support through the crushing and difficult process of interviews. Believe me, they can be quite disappointing… My only regret is that I did not start working with Angela earlier! Take my advice – start working with Angela to apply to bschool and as soon as you get accepted. The real work only begins once you’re accepted. On campus recruiting is overwhelming, and it is invaluable to have someone so knowledgeable and supportive in your corner.
I’ve known Angela for years through her wide involvement with conferences and diversity events. Angela is a kind, caring, and extremely talented individual whose storytelling abilities translate well into the tailored and well-thought advice she gives her clients. I was fortunate to complete her YOMO program before matriculating to HBS. I found it to be a very helpful, introspective, and fun exercise which enabled me to enter my first year with a clear idea of what I wished to pursue both professionally and personally within my career. The community aspect was also great as I prepared to begin school. Highly recommend working with Angela!
