I had worked with Debbie in the past few months and just received my dream offer. She gave me guidance to create a strong overall application based on my profile. My favorite part is that she helped me discover the highlights in my personal stories that makes me unique. With international background, she also understood my unique journey and provides me with insights pertaining to my situation. She also keeps on providing encouragement to me to be more confident about telling my story. In the end, I was able to receive my dream offer, beyond my initial expectations, and I cannot do it without Debbie’s help.
After being denied by the full time MBA programs at Columbia Business School and McCombs Business School, I reached out to Debbie based on the recommendation of another reapplicant at CBS. Debbie took careful time to understand my very unique situation thoroughly and was incredibly empathetic. She helped me write truly differentiating reapplicant essays. Ten days after submitting my reapplication to CBS, I was offered admission. I honestly believe it was Debbie’s thoughtful and dedicated effort that got me over the hump and admitted to my first choice in b school, despite average test scored and a below average undergrad GPA. I worked with other MBA consultants during my initial application and Debbie outmatched them in every way. From her attention to detail, to her quick turnaround to answer obvious questions, to her top-tier edits on my essays, I never felt like I wasn’t getting every bit of care and assistance I felt I needed. Debbie will always be the first word out of my mouth if anyone ever asks me how to get into business school. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, Debbie!!!!
I had a wonderful experience working with Debbie throughout the R1 application cycle. Debbie was thoughtful, organized, and insightful as I was developing my essays and resume. I appreciated the perspective that she brought to the unique values of each program. She was intentional about getting to know me and my story upfront which made the writing and editing process run seamlessly. Without her support, I don’t think I’d be attending my dream program this fall. I also loved having access to mbaMission’s extensive portfolio of resources and workshops; they provided lots of invaluable insights that helped demystify the application process. I’d definitely recommend working with Debbie and mbaMission!
I found Debbie when I was panicking in mid-Oct about R2 applications. At that time, I had a subpar GMAT and not even a draft school list. I had free consultations with a bunch of firms small and large, but I felt the most confident coming out of the conversation with Debbie. In our free consultation, she gave very practical and useful feedback. She suggested what schools I can consider based on my career goals and preferences. Some schools were ones that never crossed my mind beforehand. I appreciate how she left options open depending on my upcoming GMAT retake while other consultants didn’t think I could make it which discouraged me further in this stressful moment. Don’t be mistaken, Debbie doesn’t give you false hopes.
I also appreciate Debbie’s attitude towards potential clients. She never pushed me to purchase services and offered to recommend lower-priced consultants on her team. She reminded me about mbaMission’s service contract period, so if I wasn’t going to apply for MBA this year don’t bother starting a package yet. In all my free consultations, I asked how many schools clients typically buy for comprehensive packages. Debbie said 2-3 which I felt is an honest answer (rather than pressuring you to pay more) because you can reuse a lot of the content and learnings between schools. There are plenty of consultants out there who tell you to buy as many schools as you’re applying to. Due to the timing of the year, Debbie was also very practical in telling me what’s the max number of schools I should realistically apply to, and I decided to purchase a package less than that number.
I spoke with Debbie almost every week from Nov to Mar whether it’s back and forth updates to essays, questions from me about the process, and other status updates. The cadence came naturally because there’s just that much going on! I like mbaMission’s essay turnaround time cutoff, because that schedule pushed me to send essays over at a regular schedule in order to be the most efficient with revisions. It helps us both be accountable rather than other firms that just reply “as they get to it” which can be much longer the closer we get to deadlines. Debbie generally responds quickly to non-essay emails, 1-2 day response rate. She’ll let you know in advance when she’s taking off and how that’ll affect the response time.
Debbie is great at decluttering my thoughts and pulling out pieces that are actually relevant to essays and interviews. She will tell you straight up if certain ideas send the wrong message or are incohesive with the rest of your story. This is the harsh criticism I needed. Of course, feel free to push back since this is your application, but Debbie will work with you to find a middle ground. She’s knowledgeable about what the schools prefer and what works in applications, but also understand she can’t know every single itty-bitty detail. You still have to do your homework!
Coming out of this process, I’m glad I found Debbie to guide me. I’m not the type who’s thought about getting an MBA for years and my network doesn’t have any MBAs. The idea only came to me over the summer, so I had a lotto catch up on in a short period of time. She really gave me the confidence to push through and get admits to two M7s and two T10s which I doubt I could’ve made it without her. I chose Debbie due to her personality (also happy to support Asian women) because we would work very closely together during this period. That helped me feel comfortable asking her weirder questions relating to applications. Thank you again Debbie for your patience in responding to my long emails and addressing my boatload of comments in each essay.
mbaMission offers a variety of service package. I chose the hourly service which allowed me to use the time flexibly and wisely. I applied to Stanford MSx program and got admitted. I picked Debbie after I read others’ review and her own video which largely aligns with what I want from a consultant: have experience with Stanford GSB admission and a Stanford GSB alumni is a bonus, easy to communicate, give specific comments (rather than high-level conceptual comments) which where very easy to take action on. Debbie also gave a lot useful tips and strategic comments which allowed me to be more focus on the most important things. She was also very professional and strictly followed the turnaround time. The entire process is very efficient and effective. I really enjoyed it. I highly recommend Debbie to anyone who wants someone to understand you and help you build your story and make it a compelling application.
With Debbie’s help, I was accepted into 5 top MBA programs (including 4 M7s) all with scholarships! With less than two months until the application deadline and not yet at my desired GMAT/GRE score, I was panicking and needed a partner who could help me cross the finish line. Debbie was a partner I could trust who never doubted me for a second. We worked on two schools together and she helped shape my unique story, polish up my essays, and ensure that every part of my application was as strong as possible. What makes working with Debbie special is that she can quickly identify what makes you stand out as an applicant and ensures that your authentic voice shines through. Applying to business school is an intense process, so having the right support system is crucial. I never in my wildest dreams could have imagined such amazing outcomes. If you put in the work under Debbie Choy’s guidance, you cannot go wrong!
I approached Debbie in October 2023 for interview training. Unlike some consultants who prefer to read a script of the “walk me through your resume” answer, after reading my application materials, Debbie asked me to do a mock-up right away. The first mock-up certainly felt stressful, but I found myself making progress very quickly after the first session. After 3 sessions with Debbie, I believed I was fully prepared for the interviews.
What I truly appreciate about Debbie’s work is her detailed feedback – I have done multiple mock-ups with current students but often their feedback are way too general. Debbie’s feedback, on the other hand, ranges from the structure of my answer to my facial expressions. She truly pays attention to my performance and gives useful advice that are also beneficial for my job interviews in the future.
More importantly, whenever Debbie pointed out a problem, she almost always suggested her solution. I also had worked with a freelancer to prepare for my essays and resume before I found Debbie. My freelancer consultant charged me a lot less compared with Debbie. However, I would spend a lot more hours with her than with Debbie. In a word, I understand that Debbie, at her level, charges more than many other consultants, but it is absolutely worth it. Debbie’s feedback and suggestions are always very sharp, constructive and on-point.
For example, I struggled to put my story together as someone with an engineering degree and an art degree, and Debbie suggested that I position myself as someone who prefers to use both sides of her brain – right hand side and left hand side, meaning quantitative and qualitative. And a weakness (lack of cohesiveness) suddenly became a unique strength of mine. There are a couple of other similar examples, and I benefit so much from Debbie’s solutions.
I was eventually admitted to Ross with 20k scholarships. In addition, I was admitted to Tepper and Johnson with half scholarships, and Darden and UNC with full scholarships.
In the zoom call where I received the great news from Ross, the AdComs specifically mentioned that the interviewer (a Ross alum) gave high praises on my interview performance. Obviously I performed well because Ross was my second last interview, but I also could never have done it without Debbie’s professional instructions and continuous support.
When I was looking for an admissions coach, I was immediately drawn to Debbie’s candor, her commitment to excellence, and her positive and pragmatic attitude. As an Asian-American female pivoting out of finance, I also connected with Debbie at a personal level given her background, and I believed she would best understand and help me craft my unique story. Reflecting on a highly stressful and exhausting year-long process (April 2023 to April 2024), I feel EXTREMELY FORTUNATE AND HAPPY (CAPS LOCK REQUIRED) to have worked with Debbie. Debbie truly partnered with me and rooted for me every step of the way, pushing me to put my best foot forward while always providing a safe space for me to be honest and authentic.
I applied to 4 schools (H/S/W/MIT), and Debbie was critical to helping me structure and advance my applications. Completing 4 applications can feel super daunting, but Debbie set progressive timelines that made everything feel manageable. One of Debbie’s many strengths is her ability to balance detail orientation with strategic guidance: for EVERY essay and short answer, she provided highly effective feedback, from sentence phrasing to essay flow, that allowed me to best convey my story and my voice.
I ended up applying R2 due to a lower than median GMAT score that I was trying to increase ahead of the R1 deadline, but I couldn’t, and I didn’t even end up achieving my target score. It was brutally disappointing, but I still applied R2 and was very worried that my test score would be the gating factor. I was rejected from H/S/W but accepted to MIT. If it weren’t for the thoughtful, strategic brainstorming that we did together for EVERY part of my application for EVERY school in order to best showcase my personality and my experience as a candidate, I wouldn’t have been able to pull it off. Without Debbie, I would not be going to my dream school. Full stop, period.
Debbie’s THE BEST. Work with Debbie.
As an international applicant, the MBA application process felt daunting and confusing to me. After a 30 minute free consultation, I was matched with Debbie, whom I felt had a similar background to me (grew up in Singapore, worked at J.P. Morgan). Additionally, Debbie had graduated from Stanford, which was my dream school.
I remember feeling very assured after our first call, when Debbie helped me navigate critical decisions, such as which schools to prioritize in my applications.
One of the areas where Debbie truly excelled was in refining my essays. Writing compelling and authentic essays was a challenge for me, but Debbie’s insightful feedback and guidance transformed my essays. She encouraged me to be vulnerable, and it enabled my voice to come through in my writing.
Additionally, Debbie did not overlook any aspect of the application, including the (many) short-answer questions in the application form. Her feedback is timely and always actionable.
Thanks to Debbie’s guidance, I received acceptance letters from Stanford, Berkeley, Wharton and MIT, and secured over $50,000 in fellowship awards.
If you’re considering MBA admission consulting services, I highly recommend mbaMission. You won’t regret it!
Debbie helped me get into both of my top choices, GSB and HBS!
In short, I could not have imagined the process without Debbie. From the start, she broke down a hefty work burden into a manageable timeline, even though I felt I had a late start to R2 applications. We developed a modified calendar and covered tasks in order of priority. When I found myself getting caught in the minutiae of essay/application edits, her feedback drew me back to the big picture.
Debbie also balanced high-impact feedback with preservation of my voice–I felt my final essays to be the most refined and authentic representation of me. She dove deep during the brainstorming process to understand all corners of my experiences, while keeping in mind the values specific to each school. When we started interview prep, she reminded me of stories even I had forgotten, and she guided me on how to frame these stories with an impact-oriented angle. I left each conversation feeling more confident in myself. In many ways, Debbie’s care allowed me to uncover more of my authentic self in the application process.
I was looking for an hourly consultant to review my EMBA applications for the three programs I was interested in. Debbie was highly recommended by my mentor’s son who was accepted into an M7 program, so I decided to schedule the free consultation to learn more about her services. I appreciate Debbie’s approach to get to know her clients and their motivations for pursuing an MBA so that she can help tailor their essay and profile. Working with Debbie was natural and effortless and throughout the entire consulting process, Debbie was highly responsive and answered my questions in a very timely manner. With her help, I was admitted in all three of my target programs and could not highly recommend her services enough. Well worth her weight in gold.
Working with Debbie was a great choice. I’m from a traditional background but I started the application process super late. I had less than 2 months to prepare for R1 when I found Debbie. I applied to 4 M7 schools, and she demonstrated an impressive understanding of the MBA application landscape, providing valuable insights and strategic advice. Her expertise in MBA applications, especially at Wharton and CBS, secured my admission with a scholarship. Debbie helped brainstorm and polish my essays. Her guidance on recommendation letters was also invaluable. Her insights and genuine support were key to my application process. While every journey has its unique aspects, my experience with Debbie was positive and working with her has made this process much easier and more manageable than doing it alone!
I am not from a traditional background and have to admit I don’t know much about MBA initially when I decided to apply. From a 30-minute call with Debbie, I was able to create a rough plan for my MBA application journey. Since I got in touch with her early in the cycle, Debbie provided some good advices on how to enhance my profile with more extracurriculars.
During the brainstorm session, Debbie helped me find a unique story out of my ordinary background, which was a result of multiple deep conversations. It’s the most critical step when I worked with Debbie since it settled the whole theme of essays. Throughout the essay drafting process, Debbie is very responsible, and reply within the timeframe as always. We devoted quite some time to the essays together, and I am very happy about how the essays turned out.
With Debbie’s support and guidance, I have recently been accepted to 2 M7s and 1 T15 programs!
Debbie is the supportive, methodical, and insightful consultant I knew I needed when I first started out on my MBA application journey. Just a few reasons (of many!) that made her stand out…
1. Confidence – Going into this process, I had felt this pressure to stand out against a sea of applicants and feared that my background / experience was too “average.” Debbie helped me build the confidence to present my authentic self and share my unique story. I loved that she never tried to change my voice as I was writing essays (one of my biggest fears when I was first considering a consultant!) but rather focused on asking probing questions or highlighting opportunities for improvement – without sacrificing my personal color.
2. Structure – MBA applications can feel overwhelming and stressful, especially when you are also balancing professional and personal lives. When I first started, I wasn’t even quite sure where to begin. But Debbie provided the needed structure and kept each of our meetings targeted and efficient with a clear outcome. This made it easier for me to take things in bite-sized chunks.
3. Support – Debbie is extremely personable and supportive! I think it’s important to work with someone you trust and someone who is invested in your success. Debbie has been consistently encouraging and excited about the milestones along the way – from my first interview invite to my latest acceptances – and I’m truly grateful for this level of support and investment.
I highly recommend working with Debbie – she’s the best!
I would strongly encourage applicants to utilize mbaMission. My experience with Debbie was extremely positive; her expertise was crucial in securing a spot in an M7 business school. She did a phenomenal job of highlighting the best of my experiences, crafting my goals and background into a coherent message, and keeping me on track during all stages of the application process. The brainstorming worksheets and essay preparation meetings were especially helpful in ensuring my essays communicated my strengths to my target schools. I am certain I would not have achieved the same level of success without my partnership with Debbie and the mbaMission team. Given the opportunity to use their services again, I would 100% do so.
I had many concerns and doubts when thinking about pursuing my MBA because of my non-traditional background. For context, I am an Asian American male who dropped out of high school and had to take a nonconventional way to “get back on track”.
I have done my due diligence by looking into different admission consultant services/companies and held many free consultations. Everyone I had talked to set the bar low because of my background (focusing on the risk and the downside). Debbie was different – she was willing to see me and my profile from a different angle. She did not place any limitations on what could be possible. That is when I realized that I found my match.
Debbie is an expert in this field. Not only does she have many resources at her fingertips and is very knowledgeable about the MBA application process, she cares. She went to great lengths to understand me and my story. I can tell she carefully read through my 11-page brain dump of my history because she was able to come up with many strong stories and examples that evidence my competencies. Using what she knows about what MBA schools look for, she helped me strategize the picture I would ultimately paint for adcom. I was often amazed at her ability to not only see my stories from a different angle but also piece them together to highlight the traits that schools care about.
While the process is important, the result is just as equally important — I was able to get into my dream school.
I knew Debbie was the right consultant for me during the initial consultation. In 30 minutes, Debbie was able to quickly assess my profile and accurately point out how I could highlight my strengths in my application. Her insights and instincts are on point. I purchased the hourly service and each hour was well spent with her giving constructive feedback to the papers that I wanted her to review. Debbie provided great suggestions for my career goal and really helped me highlight the uniqueness in my applications. She really set the foundation for my successful admission – I highly recommend Debbie!!
Making the decision to pursue an MBA program during the late stage of the application season and with a significantly low undergraduate GPA put me at a considerable disadvantage from the start. Consequently, I began my search for a consulting service to assist me with my application. After having several free consultations with consultants from various firms, I discovered that Debbie was the only one who provided me with honest advice and an effective application strategy, ultimately helping me regain my confidence. Working with her over the past three months has been an enjoyable experience. Debbie consistently demonstrated her professionalism and experience in every aspect, from structuring and refining my essays and resume to preparing me for interviews. She helped me uncover my strengths, guiding me to effectively showcase them in my essays, and she provided me with a newfound clarity in defining my career goals. Moreover, Debbie imparted invaluable techniques on capturing the attention of interviewers. If there were any lingering doubts about committing myself to an MBA program before working with Debbie, they have vanished completely. With her invaluable assistance, I successfully gained admission to Rice Business School. I wholeheartedly recommend Debbie to anyone seeking to maximize their chances of receiving offers from their dream schools.
Debbie’s professionalism and expertise throughout the application process were truly exceptional. She demonstrated a deep understanding of the admissions landscape and skillfully guided me through each step. Her personalized strategies and attention to detail greatly strengthened my application.
Debbie’s organizational skills, responsiveness, and insightful feedback were also invaluable. She helped me present my strengths effectively, and her genuine support and motivation made the journey enjoyable. I was worried initially as I was not good at taking standard tests. Thanks to her guidance, I eventually got admitted into M7 – an achievement I attribute to her expertise.
I wholeheartedly recommend Debbie to anyone seeking an admission consultant. Her professionalism, expertise, and personalized approach make her an outstanding choice. I am immensely grateful for her assistance in achieving this significant milestone in my career.
After rigorously interviewing nine highly-recommended MBA admission consultants (not an exaggeration), it became evident from the outset that Debbie was, by all means, the superior choice: her efficiency, support, and results-oriented approach made her stand out. She adeptly identified the most compelling aspects of my narrative and professional track record, and accurately helped my find out which schools I would resonate most with.
Churning out that final draft with Debbie was no walk in the park – it was hard work but it was worth it! Debbie was always a step ahead, spotting improvements that I’d honestly never have thought of. She’s got this mind-blowing expertise for finding the little tweaks that make a huge difference – did I already mention that she has a HUGE attention to detail? And each time, her suggestions were spot on, adding some serious improvements to my application. Honestly, by the time we pulled our final masterpiece out of the “oven”, it was an MBA application that I felt super proud of – Which helped me get accepted into Booth!
Debbie is the rockstar you need to get you into your dream business school. She will be brutally honest with you because she has one single goal – to get you accepted. And trust me – she knows what she is doing so do listen to her. I did and this fall I will start my MBA at the only school I applied to – Chicago Booth.
Applying to business school has been my dream for 10 years and I knew that when the time came, I wanted to do it the right way which meant hiring someone who does admission consulting for a living. MBA Mission is the clear golden standard but I still decided to have a consultation with Stacey Blackman. That consultation reinforced my belief that the best firm you can hire is the one that has full-time consultants with MBA degrees (people who have gone through exactly what we are going through now) and has a track record of helping applicants get accepted – regardless of whether they have AdComm experience. No other firm can match what MBA Mission offers. After I went through all reviews on GMAT Club and Poets and Quants, I knew Debbie is my consultant – someone easy-going and friendly I can easily connect to. I chose Debbie and MBA Mission instead of someone from another firm who actually was on the admission committee at Booth.
Debbie is genuine, always on time with her feedback, and very easy to work with. She would answer all of your questions and guide you through the whole process of preparing your application. Debbie was tremendously helpful in advising me on how I should organize my stories and what I should emphasize in my essays and CV. When I started writing, I came up with so many ideas and in my pursuit of sounding unique, I ended up writing too much and still missing some key points that would help the admissions committee understand who I am and what my goals are. My first draft of the required essay was too far from where it needed to be, but Debbie was honest enough to tell me the truth so I started from scratch and re-wrote the whole essay. My CEO tried to help me with my career essay but Debbie was honest enough to tell me that my original version was actually better and I should keep my voice and style of writing. Debbie will not write instead of you but she will advise you on how to write better. In the end, I’m really proud of all essays I wrote. In addition, thanks to Debbie, I couldn’t have ended up with a better, more polished, and more impactful CV than the one I have now.
I had a very positive experience with Debbie, I produced a very strong application with her help and I ended up being accepted to Booth. I got all I wanted and I can’t recommend Debbie enough. Dreams do come true but you need to put in the work needed – hiring someone experienced like Debbie is a must.
I couldn’t be happier with my experience working with Debbie as my MBA consultant. From the very beginning, it was clear that she has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field, and she was able to help me craft unique and compelling application narratives that really highlighted my strengths.
One of the things that I appreciated most about working with Debbie was her personalized approach to consulting. She really took the time to get to know me as a person and understand my career goals, which allowed her to provide tailored advice and recommendations that were specifically geared toward helping me achieve my objectives. This level of care and attention is rare in the industry, and it made all the difference in my MBA application process.
Another thing that really impressed me about Debbie was her ability to identify potential challenges and obstacles before they become major issues. She has a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of the MBA application process, which allowed her to provide targeted guidance and support that helped me strengthen my application in a variety of areas.
Throughout the entire consulting process, Debbie was always professional, responsive, and supportive. She was always available to answer my questions, provide feedback on my work, and offer encouragement when I needed it. Her positive attitude and unwavering commitment to her clients were a real asset throughout the MBA application process.
Overall, I would highly recommend Debbie as an MBA consultant. Her expertise, personalized approach, and dedication to her clients make her a top choice for anyone who is serious about MBA app.
I had a great experience and outcome with Debbie. She is professional and does care about my personal situation. One year ago, I was not accepted into any of the major programs I applied to. One year later, with the same job and GMAT score, Debbie helped me to get into the program I dreamed of. She can talk with you to discover potentials you may not even know on your own. She will enlarge your highlights while avoiding the risky points you may make alone. I find the process with Debbie very helpful, and she is highly recommended.
I wholeheartedly recommend working with Debbie on your applications. With Debbie’s invaluable guidance, I’ve been admitted to one of my top two choices of business schools, a top 5 institution! I’ve already interviewed at two of the four schools I applied to, with final decisions still pending. I’m still in the running to be admitted to all four schools!
Debbie gave me candid and impactful advice on my personal branding – how to highlight the unique aspects of my background and show alignment with my goals. With the essays, be prepared to really engage with Debbie. She’ll come at you fast and furious with seedlings of ideas, grown from the fertile soil of your unique background and story. They are merely suggestions; often it’s the thinking behind her ideas that will then prompt your own inspired idea. This brainstorming process is critical to the final outcome. Trust this process and trust Debbie. It will save you much grief down the road.
Not currently working, I had plenty of time to spend not only considering and incorporating Debbie’s suggestions but also independently reflecting on what other changes I wanted to make. We worked very efficiently together and generally arrived at a very polished result in three or four iterations. I feel that she adapts well to her clients – for me, as a decent writer, she focused most of her attention on structure and message, but I’ve seen that she also has the writing chops to refine drafts at a lower level.
We worked very closely with two of the four schools. The learnings I gained from 10 hours of her time flowed naturally through the remaining two schools. Through the process, I’ve become stronger at telling my personal stories, a skill that will help me throughout business school and beyond.
I had a wonderful experience and outcome with Debbie. She is professional and does care about the applicant—moreover, significant outcome improvement vs. the previous year’s application process. One year ago, I also hired a consultant from a major firm but was not accepted into any of the three programs I applied to. One year later, with the same job and GMAT score, Debbie helped me to get accepted into one of the programs, and I was even offered a fellowship. Additionally, I got a deferral from a second program. Overall, working with Debbie has been a pleasant and rewarding experience. Strongly recommend her!!
Debbie is a very experienced and supportive consultant. She took the time to truly get to know me and my stories instead of following templates. She has a very in-depth understanding of the MBA application process and different schools’ unique styles. Every meeting with her was very efficient and insightful, and she was also very timely with email responses. At the same time, preparing for application can be extremely intense and stressful; Debbie’s high energy and care also made things much easier. She also went out of her way to extend support whenever needed. I would highly recommend Debbie as a consultant!
I am extremely grateful to have had Debbie as a coach throughout the application process. I worked with Debbie for multiple months from strategizing when to apply to my top choice programs, to prepping for the GMAT and writing my application, and also working through the interview process. Debbie was a very thoughtful, strategic, and encouraging consultant who gave me a lot of confidence that I was positioning myself as best as I could to the schools I was applying to. I particularly appreciated the time Debbie took to help me brainstorm and write my essays, and coach me through the interview process. I was accepted to my top choice program, and I do not think I could have gotten there without Debbie.
I worked with Debbie for R1 2023 entry and had the best experience I could’ve ever asked for.
While I did have an idea of the storyline I wanted to tell, Debbie with her years of expertise found common traits from my experiences and artfully suggested themes. Many of my essays were on version 15+ and she was able to provide thoughtful feedback no matter what stage the essays were at or pulled me back when she noticed that the previous way of phrasing is more authentic. She was also a huge emotional support when I had self-doubt and cheered me on giving me confidence that what I submitted was genuine and truly told my story. The interview mocks were also extremely helpful as she right away pointed out areas I can be more articulate which allowed me to focus during subsequent practices.
With Debbie’s help, I secured interviews with 3 out of the 5 schools I applied to (all M7) and am happy to share that I received an offer to join HBS, my dream school! I could not have gotten to where I am without her help and highly recommend her to anyone seeking support!
I purchased the mbaMission 5 MBA program package, applying to Darden, Haas, Kellogg, Tuck, and Wharton Round 1. I chose mbaMission and my consultant, Debbie Choy, through word of mouth (one of my closest college friends had used her successfully the year prior).
I most appreciated Debbie’s flexibility and timeliness; whenever I submitted materials for her review, I would always receive feedback within 48 hours (often within 24 hours).
Fortunately, there was no MBA application for Round 2, given I was admitted to several schools, including my top choice program. I would recommend using both mbaMission and Debbie to anyone going through the MBA application process!
I first heard about mbaMission through Manhattan. Their book on MBA admissions surpassed my expectations. After researching their consultants, I found Debbie seemed like an experienced, direct, kind, and serious professional. I was right, Debbie was great! She always delivered timely, concise, and direct feedback. Debbie was with me every step of the application process and helped me get into Stanford and MIT.
As a Stanford alumna and consultant professional, she provides key perspectives and critical information that I couldn’t have found otherwise. I was impressed with how well she understood me throughout this brainstorming session; this was key to the story I shared in my essay.
I’m so glad I worked with Debbie throughout my round 1 application process. I chose to do hourly services with her so that I could get her input on different parts of the application for the 5 schools I was applying to. Debbie was fantastic. She was very strategic during each brainstorming session. She let me know the parts of my background that would really stand out and should be highlighted in the application and the best way to do so. She was also very honest with me, and I felt reassured that I wasn’t just getting buzzwords from her.
I also enjoyed working with Debbie because I found her to be extremely efficient, concise, and straightforward with her feedback. Every minute with her was well spent, and I felt that I was able to drastically improve my essay with each round of edits from her. Not only that, she was very prompt in her responses to other parts of the application for each school. She made the entire application process very smooth and easy for me.
With Debbie’s help, I secured interviews with 3 of the 5 schools I applied to. I received an offer from Booth with a significant scholarship and am waiting for decisions from another top 3 and top 10 school. Debbie is amazing and I would highly recommend her to anyone.
Working with Debbie has been an incredible experience so far. I worked with Debbie on 4 highly competitive M7 schools for Round 1 – with her guidance and counsel, I received interview invitations with 3 of these schools and have already been accepted to 1 so far (M7/Ivy League).
Debbie has been thoughtful, strategic, and honest with me. She has supported me through the ups and downs of this difficult process and has truly been the wind beneath my wings. As an international South Asian male working in finance (with test scores below average!), I belong to several overrepresented categories all at once. Through working with Debbie, I was able to discover how I could best position my background and experiences in a competitive way.
There is no way I would already have a top MBA acceptance for next fall without her help. If you have the opportunity to work with Debbie, go for it – it is 100% worth it.
Looking back, I’m so glad that I chose Debbie to help me with my MBA journey. During my search for a consultant, I often felt that I was not good enough for my dream school as well as my other top targets; however, Debbie had a more optimistic approach. Having been denied at my target schools once in the past, I was worried, but she was able to look at the positives and always brought it back to my strengths. Through this process of re-applying, I can confidently say that Debbie truly cares.
She is detail-oriented, on time, friendly, and constructive. She is extremely accessible and easy to work with. Even though I always had a lot of questions, she was patient enough to answer them. Through her support, I was able to craft my re-applicant story and received admission to my dream school. She was so thrilled when I got in, and I could tell how much she was invested in my success.
She would even jump on Zoom calls with me to conduct mock interviews. She is extremely honest in her assessment, and that made me fine tune my approach to becoming a better interviewee. For those of you considering an MBA consultant, I would easily go with Debbie. I would highly recommend her services to anyone that asks me.
Truly, I owe a debt of gratitude to Debbie!
I am grateful to Debbie, who was an incredible coach throughout the application process and was patient with me as I prepared for my Gmat and slowly put together my essays.
Debbie went out of her way to fine-tune her suggestions for the individual programs to which I was applying, enabling me to hyper-target my essays to each school. For example, NYU Stern asks applicants to put together a picture essay as a means of better showcasing creative thinking and emotional intelligence. Debbie and I went through many pictures and selected those that we felt most represented the overlap between my authentic self and NYU’s values.
I am earning an MBA at Stern largely thanks to Debbie.
I reached out to 4 admission consulting companies and ended up choosing mbaMission and Debbie Choy in particular. I like the fact that mbaMission allows potential clients to arrange an intro call with a specific consultant, as opposed to other companies who would match you with some consultants.
I enjoyed working with Debbie. She has a very personable and cheerful personality. She helped me tremendously in terms of connecting the individual pieces of experience into a coherent, convincing story. Debbie is also an effective writer and helped me refine my essays to be more readable and interesting. Debbie often guides me to make connections back to my theme/main point in my interview answers that I otherwise would not have thought about (E.g., tying MIT Sloan’s course cross-registration opportunity in the MIT engineering school with ESG investing). There were instances where Debbie offered to go the extra mile without charging me extra, which makes me feel valued as a client.
In terms of areas of improvement, I believe the firm, mbaMission, should prepare some materials that are uniquely applicable to deferred enrollment candidates. I’m a deferred enrollment candidate myself and I feel like some of the materials that I was instructed to read did not pertain to me. Also, I believe the flexibility of the admission consulting process can be improved. I started working with Debbie in late January/early February, and the deadlines are in April. With this short timeframe, I got a bit frustrated when I was asked to read the whole 160 pages guide. I understand that the existing protocol might be appropriate for candidates with a lot of time, and hence can prepare them with a holistic view of the application process. But for candidates under time pressure, I believe there should be some prioritization guided by consultants.
Some other smaller things that could be perfected include: 1) double-checking the contents and links sent in emails, and 2) not letting clients feel rushed. There were cases where the links sent in the emails were not working, and other times the prompts for recommendation letters might not be updated. In terms of the second point, very infrequently would I feel a bit rushed near the end of the meeting.
Results-wise, I received a deferred enrollment offer from Columbia Business School, awaiting MIT Sloan and Virginia Darden. I believe that this offer from CBS would not be possible without Debbie’s help, and I’m very grateful for choosing Debbie and mbaMission overall.
I worked with Debbie back in 2020 for the R3 cycle, which is admittedly a tough cycle. Debbie was very approachable and was easily accessible anytime I had questions throughout the application process. Debbie encouraged me throughout the process and set checkpoints in a methodical yet achievable way. I ended up waitlisted at four schools which unfortunately didn’t convert into acceptances (thankfully because 2020!)
However, with my renewed interest in this current 2022 cycle, I used the many invaluable lessons learned previously from Debbie to apply + be accepted to the Haas EWMBA program. I don’t think my 2022 MBA application would have been successful without the prior lessons learned with Debbie. Highly recommended. Thanks, Debbie!
Working with Debbie was very enriching since she always has the best way to convey the ideas of past experiences. You are often clear about what you want to share, but it becomes complicated if you do not find the right words; it is very easy to find the right words with Debbie. Also, the way of working is delightful; it is pleasant and sincere, which is very important for these processes.
My experience was extraordinary, and everything happened according to plan. I got admitted to one of my first options, and I also got a scholarship! So I’m very happy with the excellent results and our work together.
Debbie was very helpful for GMAT prep, overall application strategy, and navigating the interview process. She was a great help to me in arranging my thoughts and experiences into viable admissions essays. She provided overall strategy, specific insights into top schools, and targeted feedback for all stages of the application.
Debbie helped me apply for a few MBA programs. It was a truly amazing experience working with her and eventually I got the admission offer from Stanford GSB, my dream one and simply the top on my wish list. It wouldn’t have been possible without Debbie’s help.
Debbie was a good listener and she quickly got to know me as a person during the brainstorming session. She never made stories for me, but conversations with her were inspiring and they did help me find myself, and excellent essay writing was naturally a result of it. Application was a long, and sometimes, easy-to-lost process. Debbie was not only inspiring but strategic. Her suggestions on time arrangements, test preparations, key points in writings, etc., were practically useful. Her mental support also helped me go through this challenging period.
It wasn’t purely the good result that led me to leave this review, but it is really about her professionalism and inspirations during the process which I truly respect and highly recommend.
I applied in Round 2 in fall 2022 for the Class of 2024 and bought MBA MIssion’s 5-school package. I was admitted into my top choice school, Wharton and accepted their offer of attendance.
I did my free consulting session with Debbie Choy, and knew immediately that she would be a great fit as my consultant. I told her on the spot that I wanted to sign up with her. However, at the time, I hadn’t taken my GMAT yet. Debbie encouraged me to wait until I took the GMAT before paying for the consulting package because it is non-refundable. Debbie even offered to hold my spot with her until after I took the GMAT. That action showed me that Debbie (and MBA Mission) really care about what is best for me, and not just collecting my money. I ended up signing up immediately anyways because I was tight on time before deadlines, but that action was very meaningful to me.
Debbie really took the time to understand who I was and what makes me a strong candidate. Many times throughout the process, I asked her if specific topics would be suitable for essays or short answers. My concern was, maybe these topics were too common or “not what the school is looking for”. Debbie always encouraged me to be myself while giving me tips on what parts of my story I could highlight to strengthen my application (but still being authentic)!
With her many years of experience, Debbie is a fantastic and knowledgeable consultant. I highly recommend her!
I had researched nearly all the consulting service providers online and shortlisted three of them. After the in-depth calls with each, I chose Debbie to be my consultant and signed a 5-school package with her.
She is very responsive, super knowledgeable, and has guided me through every step of the application process. In the beginning, I had not decided which schools to apply to, so we began by discussing the school selections. Debbie understood my background and my desired career path so well, and thanks to that, I was admitted to a B-school (and it’s an M7!) that she recommended but I did not plan to apply to in the first place.
Not only the fact that I was admitted with a scholarship, but also after my interactions with the alumni and current students, I found that I loved this school the most, and it actually fit me the best (the culture, my career goal, and strengths, etc.)
I would say the timeline for my applications is quite tight – I only started at the end of September while super busy with work. Debbie helped manage the timeline so I did not feel rushed when the deadline for R2 was near. Instead, I managed to have time to apply to two more schools.
All in all, the journey with Debbie was super fun, no stress, but very productive. Emotionally, Debbie also eased my anxiety a lot. I emailed her every question I had (even very tiny ones), and she would respond with patience. I am really grateful!
I spoke with several admissions consultants in the months prior to application season; as soon as I met Debbie, I knew she would be the best advisor to guide me through this process. Her extraordinary level of support, expertise and tactical feedback made the application process seamless and stress free. Debbie knew exactly which parts of my resume and essays needed TLC, and her input made me feel confident in what I was putting forth as a candidate. Fast forward a few months and I’ve been admitted to my first choice MBA program with a scholarship!
I can’t recommend Debbie enough.
Thanks to Debbie’s amazing support, I was admitted to my dream school alongside multiple M7 offers.
I signed up for hourly services with mbaMission originally looking for feedback on my essay. Debbie helped with so much more. Not only did she help me through the entire essay process: brainstorming, review, feedback, she also helped me navigate the application process as a whole. She answered all sorts of questions related to background, interviewing, etc.
Without her, I would have been completely lost. 3 months into our partnership, I’m in a spot that I couldn’t have imagined with multiple offers in hand. I would 100% recommend her to anyone looking for help in their MBA application.
It was such a smooth and great experience working with Debbie. She is very experienced in what she does having worked with a ton of applicants for different schools. She helped me narrow down on the schools that I ultimately applied to and was also very helpful with the various questions I had when I was choosing my recommenders. When it came to brainstorming and essay writing, Debbie had great feedback on the essays and helped me string my thoughts together into something that was unique to me and really showcased my own voice. I couldn’t have done this without Debbie and getting admitted to one of my dream schools! Thanks Debbie!
I worked with Debbie on the 3 School Package. She was an excellent partner throughout the MBA Admission process.
Our beginning sessions were focused on shaping my holistic story that I would tell admissions. She spent the time to get to know who I was to better recommend what my essays and resume should highlight. This was a critical step that we took before diving into the deliverables and made the rest of the process much smoother and effective.
Debbie was immensely helpful in the editing process – she provided effective feedback in a timely manner and was always available to help answer all the questions I had through the admissions process.
With her help, I was able to get into my top MBA choice!
I would highly recommend Debbie to anyone who wants to pursue their MBA!
I decided to apply to business schools in the middle of the pandemic, and knowing that the application season was going to be an unprecedented one, I wanted to enlist the help of an admission consultant. I spoke with a number of places (i.e. SBC, Admissionado, etc.) and went with mbaMission/Debbie not just because of Debbie’s track record, but also because I felt she understood my background and motivations. Debbie was to be my “strategic project manager” – someone who could keep me on track and help me present the best version of myself.
While Debbie did her absolute best for the 4 applications that we worked on together, I was ultimately dinged by all 4 M7 schools. That said, I am still giving a 5-star rating to my experience because of the following reasons:
– I understood from the start that a consultant was not some sort of “magic bullet” who could get me into any school, especially during a crazy year like 2020/2021. I wanted a strategic project manager, and Debbie delivered perfectly. – Debbie and mbaMission as a whole had a very streamlined, well thought out and structured process when it comes to helping applicants navigate the application cycle. I also appreciate the plethora of written resources (detailed documentation about the schools, FAQs on how to work with my recommenders, etc.) that they had created. – Debbie was able to look at my blind spots and constantly provided valuable feedback that I believe strengthened my applications – Debbie has always maintained a good spirit throughout the process, even as the rejections started to roll in. – Finally, because Debbie was able to help me finish my applications almost ahead of schedule, I had time to work on one additional application to a top UK program by incorporating much of the material from my 4 applications, and that is where I am headed!
All in all, I was happy with mbaMission and Debbie. This is my advice to anyone reading this: Understand what you are signing up for, and everything will work out.
As a non-traditional candidate, I needed a lot of help in clearly articulating my career goals and addressing weaknesses (namely low GPA). After a terrible experience with a consultant from a different firm, I was hesitant about the value of an MBA consultant.
I did a couple of free consultations and immediately knew that Debbie was the right choice for me. She is honest, kind, highly intelligent, and always responsive. We worked diligently to update my resume and improve my essays. I appreciated how straightforward she was without condescension, and felt that she never wasted time.
Overall, she helped me secure interviews at 4/7 of the T15 schools I applied to. After a rough R1 (WL’d to 2 schools), Debbie encouraged me to relax, reset, and consider applying to more schools in R2. I was initially unsure but mustered the energy to follow her advice. Lo and behold, I got into a top choice school (Tuck/Ross/Fuqua/Darden) with a scholarship and fellowship! When I told Debbie, she was over the moon. She was as excited for me as my family was.
I believe that my outcomes would’ve been worse, potentially non-existent, had it not been for Debbie. She is genuinely invested in your growth and success. Her feedback made a huge difference in the quality of my apps. I know that fit is an important part of selecting a consultant, but Debbie exceeded my expectations in every way. 11/10 would recommend.
My MBA admissions journey has been a roller coaster, and I imagine this could be the case for a lot of other people. After a disappointing 1-school Round 1, I decided I should invest in a consultant as a sounding board. I was not someone who had been planning to get an MBA since UG, and despite a lot of my own research, I still felt lost within the application process – what was the best way for me to communicate my story to admissions? I shopped around and interviewed 5 different consultants before going with Debbie — I could tell she was personally invested in my success, and I could also tell she would be encouraging and confidence-building while also being realistic about my strengths and weaknesses. She was all of this and more. Debbie helped me sort through all of my experiences and really pinpoint a compelling narrative, something I was missing from my original application. She also was wonderful in dealing with all of my uncertainties and was always prompt in her turnarounds and responses to emails. If I ever had a quick question, even in relation to a school outside of my package, I reached out to Debbie. With her guidance, I now have 3 of 4 admissions, all with merit scholarships (one M7 and two T10). If you’re waffling about whether or not to hire a consultant, end your search with Debbie!
Debbie was instrumental in my MBA application process. I am a reapplicant from the R4 (Summer of 2020 Covid) who successfully got into schools in R2 or 2021. When it came to reapplying this year, there was no doubt in my mind that I would continue working with Debbie. She took the additional steps to ensure my application was better than the first, ensuring that any blind spots or weaknesses would be covered.
What I enjoyed about her was the transparency and the hands-on help she gave with feedback and coaching. I remember one time after I did a mock interview and felt unsure of my performance, she gave me the reassurance verbally, even telling me to not purchase another hour since that is how confident she felt in me. That showed me that she genuinely cared, beyond the scope of a generic client, and that is why I would highly recommend working with her.
Debbie was invaluable in helping me with the weak points in my application: making my essays shine and polishing my interview. With her help, I applied to four schools early, got into two (including my top choice, HBS), and got waitlisted at two.
I’ll admit I was not a believer in spending money on an application consultant at first but Debbie tangibly improved my essay and helped guide me through my crazy ideas for re-writes to ultimately craft a really strong and compelling essay that got me interviews at all four schools. I really appreciated her process: saving time on my five hour package by providing quick gut feedback over email and letting me rewrite, and knowing when to give broad structural feedback versus detailed edits.
The interview prep I did with Debbie was also so well-structured and helpful, and probably the best hour I spent. Practicing with my friends alone would never have gotten me the level of polish and preparation that I realized I needed. I’ll never forget her advice – no one ever sounds too prepared for a question!
My consultant, Debbie, was very helpful at every part of the application process. She took time to understand my background, strengths, and goals, and we worked together to tell a compelling story through my application. She responded to my emails promptly, and she did a very thorough review of all parts of my application. Debbie also guided me in brainstorming themes for my essay, and she edited my essay extremely thoroughly. She preserved my voice in the essay, while also ensuring that the essay was concise and hit all of the points that business schools are looking for. The mock interview with Debbie allowed me to practice my answers to common questions and feel confident as I went into the actual interview.
I definitely recommend Debbie to anyone looking for an ally in the application process. From our first conversation to getting admission decisions, Debbie believed in my candidacy and calmed my anxieties. She was instrumental in helping me craft a story that was unique to me. I started with a basic goal statement that she poked and prodded until it was a compelling and achievable. She took all the ambiguity out of writing my essays. She provided structure to follow and key points to hit while always insisting on quality – no matter the number of revisions. Having an expert’s opinion and guidance throughout essay writing process was essential for me to feel confident about my essay topics and how they were conveyed. I’m very proud of the essays I wrote and I know they were instrumental to my entire application package. Thanks to Debbie, I was admitted to a top business school with a FULL scholarship!
From the first conversation I had with Debbie, I knew I was in the right place. I am happy I chose to work on my application process with her. She helped me do a lot of introspection, understand my aspirations and find the best way to communicate them. I can actually say that this process helped me to get to know myself better. I worked with Debbie on a three school package. I ended up applying to five different schools and got an offer from three of them. Debbie’s feedback was very honest and to the point, and she really helped me to put my best foot forward on my essays. You could really see that she invested time in reviewing them. When it came down to interview preparation, she helped me structure my thoughts and boosted my confidence. Even for the schools we did not work on together, her advice equipped me with a structured process to outline my essays and prepare my application. Now, I am glad to say that will be attending my dream program at a M7 in 2021!
TL;DR: Debbie helped me get into HBS (my top choice) and MIT Sloan, and got waitlisted for Stanford GSB. I applied to only these three schools, and I have no doubt these results wouldn’t have been possible without Debbie’s insight and feedback on my essays and applications.
I first talked to Debbie over the phone to see which service was the better option for me. Debbie walked me through the details for hourly and package options and in the end, I decided to proceed with hourly service bc of my limited budget.
I started working on the applications around mid-August and was very concerned about the limited time I had until R1 deadlines. Debbie ensured me that I still had time to bring up solid applications if I focused on them. I started working on my essays and had no idea what to write, and even if I wrote something, I was totally insecure and in doubt about the contents and the fact that they might be unsuitable for an MBA application. I went through many rounds of reviews with Debbie—removed many contents from my first drafts, added new contents, and improved whatever I had first—significantly improving my essays at the end. Debbie’s comments and feedback gave me huge peace of mind about both my essays’ contents and their format style. I can safely say that without Debbie’s comments and insight, there’s absolutely no way I could have achieved the results I got from these three schools.
Debbie was very easy to work with, patient, positive, and flexible in the process. As mentioned before, I started working on my applications too late and there were many instances when I needed high-level feedback on the same day. Debbie was ALWAYS open to quick, high-level questions on certain applications questions I had or something specific in the essays I had doubt on. I remember I had MANY high-level questions just 1 or 2 days before HBS, GSB, and MIT deadlines. I sent my questions to Debbie through email and she always got back to me by the end of the same day. This alone was a HUGE help. Also, mbaMission has a policy that they would review the essay drafts within 2 days after sending them to the consultant. There were a few occasions that I needed my draft gotten back to me the same day or in just one day. Debbie showed flexibility on this when it was close to the deadline and gave the drafts back to me earlier than she had to. Again, a great help and peace of mind before final submissions.
In summary, Debbie was a huge help and source of direction both on my essays and my application questions. My experience with an MBA consultant and the results I got couldn’t have been better.
I worked with Debbie on a two-school package and it was a great choice – I would highly recommend her to anyone! I ended up being accepted to HBS and could not have done it without her help. Debbie provided extremely helpful direction and careful revision for the essays that we worked on, and her ideas and structures translated to other schools’ essays as well, making the entire application process much more manageable. HBS was actually not one of the schools we worked on together, but Debbie was still happy to provide high-level guidance on how to structure my essay, which I deeply appreciated.
Debbie was always very responsive and happy to address specific questions on my essays as nitpicky as fine-tuning phrasing or grammatical issues. I came to Debbie with countless iterations of my essays and she worked with me to refine them until we were both satisfied. I also cannot stress enough how helpful Debbie was with the recommendation process, from selecting recommenders to helping them understand what skills and areas AdComs are typically looking for. Finally, when it came to interviews, Debbie’s advice was spot on. My interviewer actually called me after my acceptance to say that the AdCom was impressed with my answers, specifically in the areas that Debbie told me to focus on. Without her guidance, I would not have been nearly as well-prepared and confident going into my interviews!
More broadly, the MBAMission approach is extremely thorough and sets you up for success throughout the application process. The brainstorming document encourages you to deeply reflect on your experiences across all dimensions and consider how best to present yourself in your application. I ended up working with Debbie because we come from similar professional backgrounds, having both worked in finance and consulting, and also because of her considerate and thoughtful working style. I cannot recommend Debbie enough – she is awesome and will bring out the best in you!
I chose to work with Debbie Choy after she came highly recommended by an acquaintance. I had multiple concerns about applying to business school coming from a niche industry and with weaker EC activities. Debbie’s expertise was instrumental in helping me translate and leverage my experiences to tell a compelling story to admissions through my essays. Her knowledge of the schools also proved incredibly helpful, as she was able to help me lift out particular traits important to each program in my stories.
She is also a consummate professional – communicative, thorough, and organized. Through several rounds of multiple essays for 2 schools, she answered my many questions quickly and never failed to send edits back on time. This enabled me to complete my applications much quicker than originally expected.
Finally, applying to business school can be stressful and Debbie’s support and patience made all the difference in helping me feel confident and prepared. In particular, interviewing is not my strong suit and I was apprehensive about the interview. When I received my interview invitation at my top choice school, Debbie held a mock session with me. She gave me helpful tips that not only came in handy during my actual interview but provided a meaningful confidence boost that enabled me to tell my story successfully.
With Debbie’s help, I got into my top choice school – Columbia. She was a pleasure to work with, and I can’t imagine a better partner for the application process. I highly recommend working with her!
I talked to multiple firms/consultants during my research process for the FT MBA 2020-2021 admissions season. With other firms I was told that I did not have enough WE, no promotion, and that they wouldn’t take me on. I was feeling unconfident, but after my first consult with Debbie I totally changed my outlook. Debbie was always creative and encouraging, and really knew how to bring out the most unique aspects of my background to create a compelling story, and really helped sharpen my “why MBA” answer. I’m now headed to an M7!
Debbie was such a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. She provided a very structured and seamless process for everything: school selection, resume edits, essay writing and brainstorm sessions. She provided candid feedback for mock interviews and really helped me work on my delivery. Turnaround time for edits was quick and punctual. Debbie really knew how to find connections between my personal background, extracurriculars and my professional accomplishments – connections I certainly would have struggled to see if I had gone through the admissions process on my own. I highly recommend Debbie and would work with her over and over again. A HUGE THANK YOU.
I chose Debbie Choy after I talked with a couple of MBA consultants. As a result, I am so glad I made this decision. She is a great mentor. I cannot imagine that I could get my dream school offer without her help.
Debbie is very professional and provides structured services. In the beginning, she helped me set up a clear strategy and timeline, making sure I could finish every milestone on time. Every time, she could deliver her feedback on my applicant materials without delay.
Debbie is considerate and familiar with the financial industry and any concern of international applicants. My background is very non-traditional and did not work in a big name, but Debbie could discover my sparkle points to show on essays. I believe that those unusual points helped me a lot to get the offer.
I highly recommend Debbie, especially for those international applicants with financial backgrounds.
Working with Debbie has been such a phenomenal experience. She is super responsive to my questions over email and she also made time for my urgent requests which made working with her an extremely smooth process. Debbie is extremely detail-oriented when helping me review my application essays and gave me constructive advice that showed not only how much she knew about business schools and the application process but also the effort she made to understand me and my story. Before my school interview, Debbie also shared extremely insightful advice that I otherwise may not have taken notice of. She really helped me get a great understanding of what to expect during the interview. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is considering applying to business schools both because of her unparalleled expertise but also her patience and her thoughtfulness. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Debbie!
I had a fantastic experience with mbaMission and Debbie Choy! I made the decision to apply in Round 2 in early November and was able to go from not knowing which schools to apply to or even what “story” I wanted to go in with, to submitting 3 high-quality applications before Christmas. I couldn’t have made it into an “M7” school without Debbie’s help!
Beyond just the general quality of her feedback and mastery of the entire application process, there were a few specific things I really appreciated:
–Ability to prioritize: Debbie was great at focusing in on the areas that really mattered, and deprioritizing things that weren’t value-add. This drove a high level of efficiency in my process without sacrificing quality/thoroughness at all.
–Highly structured & great communication: throughout the entire process, Debbie provided a plethora of resources and guidance. From school selection scorecards to brainstorming resources to interview prep to waitlist navigation, I never felt like I had a lack of information or tools, which gave me a high level of comfort and took a lot of the “guess-work” out of the application process.
–Fantastic at helping craft my story: One of the big unknowns for me going in was precisely what I wanted to do post-MBA and how to tie that to my “story” that weaved together my past experiences into a comprehensive narrative. Debbie was truly amazing at diving deep into everything from my upbringing to my hobbies and my work experience and crafting a clear and logical message.
–Great attitude: Debbie was always really positive, which is very helpful as you are stressed out throughout the application process. I also frequently tended to have a lot of small, random questions; while I’m sure this was annoying, Debbie answered everything thoroughly, efficiently, and never once with a hint of annoyance or animosity. Also, whenever she pushed back on an idea I had, it was always done in a positive, constructive manner which was super helpful.
Overall, I would highly recommend mbaMission and Debbie Choy specifically — Debbie exceeded expectations and drove excellent results for me in my application process.
A few months ago, I was stressed out about applying to a Master of Business Administration program, and with Debbie’s help, I was able to get into my Dream School — Haas. I came from an untraditional background, and all my close friends didn’t have any experience with business school applications. At that time, I didn’t think it would be possible to get into a top business program.
When I first signed up for a free consultation with Debbie, she gave me candid and constructive feedback. From that point, I decided to work with her for my application. Even though I only worked with her on an hourly package, I was able to get tremendous help on my resume and essay. We had lots of back and forth on crafting a unique story, and she pushed me, again and again, to tell this story from my voice. This personal and intimate experience was far more than the generic consultant experience I read about on various other websites.
I would say without Debbie’s help. I would not be able to get into, not one, not but two of my dream programs. I highly recommend her!
I worked with Debbie on a two school package during the most recent extended rounds. After an initial call I saw immediately how friendly and supportive she was compared to the initial meetings I had with other competitors.
Debbie worked diligently with me to focus my application and build a targeted story – something I wholeheartedly believe I would not have been able to do on my own in four weeks.
The biggest value Debbie provided was on my essays, where she went above and beyond to read multiple drafts at a time. She helped clean up my storytelling and provided critical structural feedback to make me stand out. She’s also there for you – I remember after getting in we went back and forth over email at 10:30 pm at night. You can tell she really cares about her clients.
The advice she provided was invaluable in shaping my applications and I wound up getting interviews at 8/9 schools I applied to and received acceptance to multiple M7, top 10, and top 15 programs.
Granted the full package is quite expensive so I’m not sure it is fully necessary, but mbaMission is comparable in pricing to many other services available. If you do decide to go with a consultancy I’d recommend Debbie. You really can’t go wrong and it’s an investment that will pay off quickly in the future.
Super thrilled when I heard back from Haas that I got in! I shared the news first with Debbie since I knew this was a great job we completed together! I am very grateful for her advice, supports, and efforts during this long application process and would strongly recommend you work with her! First, she was patient and honest. It was already last year near the end of November that I purchased the “1 school package” from MBAmission. I was hesitating about applying for an MBA, very lost and also doubted myself. During our first talk, I opened up with her because I felt her sincerity in getting to know me. She asked me to think about what I wanted to do 10 years later. She used real examples to let me know an introvert personality would not be a problem to get into a business school. She also advised me on the school selection to ensure that I could maximize my chances of success. Her efforts helped me build confidence and beat the fear of the tight schedule. Secondly, she was very creative. During our brainstorming call, although I had some ideas about the essay, it was she who helped me connect the spots and figure out the main theme. Her advice on selecting examples to support the theme was also very valuable. In addition, I highly appreciate Debbie’s editing! As an engineer, I am not good at writing essays. Debbie shared some effective tips in telling stories. She made great comments on how to improve the way I organized the essay and how to keep my flow concise and logical. I really enjoyed working with Debbie! In the beginning, I was not sure about the big investment in the admission consulting service, but after working with her, I feel everything is worthwhile!
From the get-go, working with Debbie was a fantastic and seamless experience (and I’m not just saying that because I got into my dream school, HBS, with her guidance). When I started the process early in the summer, I had an extremely vague idea of how to approach my application. I had a rough sense of what type of work I wanted to do post-MBA, but I wasn’t sure how I’d draw a direct line between my professional, academic, and life experiences and the amorphous concept of my future career.
From the moment I began working with Debbie, that began to change. During our kick-off call and brainstorming sessions, I began to delve much deeper into the experiences that I’ve had. I think most people (or at least would like to imagine) aren’t predisposed to constantly think about how great they are, or the great things they’ve done, but the application process requires you to do so. Debbie expertly coaxed these details out of me and helped me construct an application narrative that still felt deeply authentic; she never tried to impose anything on me or my application that felt uncomfortable.
As we continued through the process, Debbie was responsive and respectful, and ultimately guided me through an extremely introspective period of my life. Debbie also helped me prep for my interviews and set me up with her colleague on short notice for school-specific interviews (i.e. HBS). She always felt like a genuine partner who was most interested in my success and, if I had to go through the entire process again, I would do it the exact same way with the exact same counselor. I learned a lot about myself along the way and I’m certain that my experience would have been much different (see: worse) without Debbie’s expertise.
Debbie was truly a pleasure to work with. She was accessible, easy to work with, constructive, and friendly.
My MBA journey began in 2018 when I applied to a number of top tier schools without the aid of a consultant. Although I felt that I put my best foot forward, in retrospect there were a number of holes in my application. I received interviews at a few schools but was ultimately waitlisted and denied.
In 2019, I decided to move forward with a consultant. From the moment that I began to speak to Debbie, I knew that she was different. She was friendly, supportive, constructive, yet direct. She helped to frame my essays in such concise and descriptive ways that I could not do on my own. Also, she was helpful when I ultimately received interviews.
Thanks to Debbie I received admission to a top-tier MBA program as a re-applicant. I would recommend her services to anyone!!!
Thanks to Debbie, I’ll be heading to Charlottesville to attend UVA Darden next fall! I worked with Debbie on the four-school Complete Start-to-Finish Package. From beginning to end, Debbie was extremely helpful, and she really helped me craft my applications in the most compelling way.
During the brainstorming process, she took the time to understand my story, and she helped me identify the most unique aspects of my profile. I really appreciated how she helped me clarify my short and long-term goals in the context of my professional background and experience.
For the essays, she helped me identify my most compelling stories for each essay prompt, and she gave me advice on how I can outline and structure my essays to engage the admissions committee. When reviewing my essays, she would always return her feedback within two business days.
Overall, I would highly recommend Debbie for anyone who is looking for an admissions consultant. I’m extremely happy with the result, and I’m looking forward to attending my dream school!
If you look in the dictionary for the definition of “phenomenal”, you will see a photo of Debbie Choy. All thanks to Debbie, I am headed to UVA Darden – my dream school! – this fall and I could not be more thrilled!!! Debbie went above and beyond in every single way for me. Debbie’s talent as a coach and a partner, her ability to highlight the most compelling parts of your story, her constant cheerleading, and her honest but casual style are just 4 of many things that make her an all-star MBA consultant. If you want to work with the best, work with Debbie. No contest. When I got into Darden, she said “OMG, I HAVE LITERAL TEARS OF JOY” – that’s how close we got and how dedicated she is to your success.
I worked with Debbie on a 6 school package and was able to use much of the work we did to apply to even more schools. I have a very non-traditional background: 7 years of experience in tech, Humanities double major from a top public university and definitely more of a “poet” than a “quant”. I also had a well below average GMAT score. I opted to go with Debbie because 1) I didn’t want to go through the process blind, 2) I wanted to get the application process right the first time (versus re-applying) and 3) Debbie went to a school I have the utmost respect for. I also work for a startup and my schedule is crazy – I needed someone to be the “hammer” and make sure I got things done on time. I wanted to present myself in the best possible light and given how unique my background was, I didn’t really know how to shape my narrative. Enter Debbie!
My results blew me away: 2 straight admits w/ 1 scholarship, 4 waitlists (Dartmouth Tuck, UVA Darden, NYU Stern, and CMU Tepper). I expected to get into 1 school max – not have, at one point, 7 potential options. And then I cleared the waitlist at Darden and am headed there!
I’ll never forget our kickoff call when I told her how many schools I was applying to (hint: 10+) because I was convinced I wouldn’t get in anywhere. Debbie just smiled and said, “Ok, it’s all about execution then!” She was constantly positive, always uplifting. From taking the GMAT 5 times to then taking the GRE to deal with one of my recommenders bailing last minute, Debbie was consistently calm, cool and collected (even when I certainly was not). She always helped me find creative solutions, pushed me to produce the highest quality drafts I could and really helped me present myself in the strongest possible way. If an essay was headed in the wrong direction, she wasn’t afraid to tell me and have us start over – which was very confidence-inspiring. She remembered key aspects of my story and found new ways to tell the same story in a way that would appeal to each school. I was so impressed with the depth of Debbie’s knowledge; for instance, the way we prepped for my Darden interview was completely different than how we prepped for Tuck. In applying to so many schools, I even accidentally sent her a document for one of the schools I was not working with her on – and she reviewed it! When I offered to retroactively pay her, she declined and just said she “hoped it was helpful”. She is one of the most kind-hearted, dedicated and altruistic people I’ve worked with through my career. When I was in “waitlist purgatory” for what felt like forever, Debbie helped me figure out creative ways to update AdComs and keep the ball rolling. And, most significantly, she demonstrated boundless empathy and support for me during a year where I lost a family member midway through the application season, completely unexpectedly. I could not have asked for more from an admissions consultant – who has since become a friend.
Despite how much self-doubt I had through the process, Debbie consistently built me up and never acted like my many silly questions about short answers on the app form were silly. The application process is stressful: you feel the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and the waiting in between can drive you crazy. Debbie was there through it all – reviewing essays I had grown tired of reviewing, pushing me to produce the best possible drafts and even making herself available to one of my recommenders if he had questions. She really gets on the same side of the river as you and is side-by-side with you as you navigate this stressful and intense process. You have to work with Debbie. I would do it all again if I could – and I’m already jealous of the lucky folks who get to work with her this application season.
Knowing I want to go into tech entrepreneurship, Debbie told me: “If you ever start a company, I want to be one of your investors”. 🙂 What you invest in the process with Debbie you will get back tenfold.
I applied with a very low GPA (2.9) from undergrad but I put all my eggs in one basket and only applied to one school. I was very quickly admitted to my dream program without an interview! All thanks to Debbie helping me focus on how to highlight my strength and make the most impact in those short essays. She was super easy to work with and established clear expectations and timelines with me. When I had to rush my submissions, she came through and made sure I was a priority. Highly recommend her!
Debbie worked with my girlfriend and I as we submitted applications to a few top 5 business schools. After an introductory call in which Debbie asked about our work styles, what our goals were, how we wanted to use our time, etc. she provided the structure and process we needed to be successful in the application process. It was clear that Debbie understood how we wanted to work with her and she was incredibly efficient with our time. She provided targeted feedback on parts of our application that we identified as needing special attention, which helped us make quick turns on drafts. I would recommend Debbie to anyone looking to get into a top school. Her approach is very successful as both my girlfriend and I got into top programs.
It has been a long, stressful road to get to this point, but with Debbie’s help, I got into one of my top choices – Wharton. I started the application process for round 1 with only a month until the deadlines for some of my top schools. Super overwhelmed and only having just retaken the GMAT a second time I was scrambling to get started and decided to take the leap with Debbie. Right at the get-go, we kicked it into gear- she got to know my story and helped me formulate a strategy on what schools I should apply to and when. What I like about Debbie is that she will be honest with you. A consultant can only do so much for your application, but she has a lot of good insight into what schools are looking for and what would be a good fit for you from her perspective. She might even convince you to look at a school you have not considered before. I ended up splitting applications between round 1 and 2 to prioritize my top choices. Debbie seriously knows some of the most intimate details of my life. She helped me pick and choose what stuck out to her and what sounded interesting – those things that truly represented who I am and could help tell my story. But it was always a two-way street – if I felt uncomfortable about making something the highlight of an essay or felt my evidence was not substantial, she would help me choose a different topic or spin it a different way and make it flow so much better. I trusted her. I highly recommend working with Debbie if you are considering a consultant. Even when I was waitlisted at another top school she helped me navigate that process as well. She was always encouraging me even if I heard bad news so I felt motivated to continue. Additionally, she answered ALL my questions even if they were simply logistics related. No question was unimportant. At the end of the day, with the MBA admissions process you just don’t know what is going to happen, but having Debbie there to help me along the way and have my back really helped keep me sane and focused. I also ended up using outlines/ideas we used for many other applications outside of the package I had with Debbie which saved a lot of time later on in Round 2.
Not only was I admitted to a Top 10 school, but I was also admitted with a 50% scholarship after working with Debbie. I decided to apply R2 in September, and I never felt overwhelmed working with her despite a four-month deadline. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without her! During our brainstorming session, she helped me frame my work accomplishments in a way that demonstrated my strengths to adcom while also relating them to the schools’ core values. This step proved fundamental to the rest of my application process, and where I found great value working with a consultant. I also really appreciated her extensive knowledge on what each school is looking for in their essays, down to the paragraph. She also helped me identify which schools had similar essays so I could work on some applications on my own. Last but not least, my GRE scores were below average, but Debbie really helped me strengthen other areas of my application to help overcome that. I am so grateful for her help and to be into my top choice school!! I couldn’t recommend her enough.
Debbie was extremely instrumental in my admission to NYU Stern, where I was originally wait-listed at. From the initial essay writing preparation stage to the interview practice session, Debbie was always extremely professional and goal-oriented in her approach to helping me with my applications.
During the essay writing phase, I really liked how Debbie took a holistic approach to help me understand my strengths and weaknesses as a candidate and helped me pick out the best life stories that would ultimately be the main focus of my essays. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience working with Debbie. I left our first brainstorming session with a clear story and direction for my essays,
During the interview stage, Debbie practiced with me thoroughly via Skype and helped me with many of the intangibles that are essential for a successful interview. “The delivery is often just as important if not more important than the content”, as she would often remind me throughout these sessions, which was something I couldn’t have agreed with more and really benefited from as a candidate.
Finally, while initially discouraged by the wait-list offer, I was even more impressed by Debbie’s ability to keep me motivated and helped me strategize a plan that would ultimately gain me admission to the school. Throughout the application process, she not only delivered to me top-notch professional services, but she actually made me feel that I had a cheerleader in the background that was helping me with every setback. I would wholeheartedly recommend her service to anyone seeking an incredible MBA consultant!
Debbie is the go-to consultant if you want someone to hand-hold you through the application process. She is brutally honest and gives great constructive feedback. Yes, all consultants are expensive, but since every applicant is using one, you will be at a disadvantage if you decide to embark on this journey alone. Despite not having the best work experience, I got accepted into an M7 school and even got an interview with HBS.
Debbie was great throughout the entire process and I never felt overwhelmed. In the beginning, she literally had me write my life story out and we had a great conversation about which stories/themes I should be highlighting in my essays. She was very collaborative during this discussion. At the same time, if you are going down the wrong rabbit hole, she will not hesitate to stop you and she saved me a lot of time in that regard. Once we figured out the target schools, Debbie created a timeline for me for each school so I knew how to pace myself.
In regards to the essays, Debbie had a call with me to give me some tips on how to tackle every essay question. Next, she requested that I provided her with an outline of my essay structure. After further comments, I finally got to the essay writing part. All this prep work up front really saved me time on writing the essay. There was some back and forth after the initial essay draft and Debbie always replied within two business days. She even reviewed the extra questions in the application package.
Once I got the good news on the interview invites, she will give you a sample of questions the school usually asks in preparation for the mock interview. You really need to be on top of your game on this one because it really felt like a real interview. After each question, Debbie will give live feedback and once again, she is not afraid to tell you if your answer was way off the mark. I appreciated the honesty as that helped me focus on the subset of questions I needed to hone in on.
To summarize, Debbie was a fantastic partner in this process and I couldn’t have done it without her.
I was extremely busy at my work during the admission season, and knew very little about admission process when the application deadline was only around 3 months away. So I chose to get Debbie Choy’s help. I summarized some most important insights from Debbie as below, which turned out to be very true and helped me to be very efficient during the process. 1. Recommendation of what schools or programs suit me best; 2. What the admission offices are looking for from applicants, and what makes the applicant different from others; 3. How to write essays that present yourself better; 4. Debbie controlled the application schedules very well. She always gave responses within the time as she promised, and would also check in me when I was a little behind on things that needed to be done; 5. Debbie also had a mock interview with me, which turned out to be very similar to what I experienced in real. It made me very prepared and confident during the inte rview. Overall speaking, Debbie has a very clear, easy and sense-making process for you to follow in order to complete the admission process. I felt it was just a matter of time and process to get admitted by your dream school, as long as you follow her process. I strongly recommended you to use Debbie’s help if you would like to maximize your acceptance possibility, and make your process as easy as possible.
Debbie was an excellent consultant for my MBA admissions process, and I have now been admitted to a Top 10 business school. Debbie gave me straightforward, no-frills feedback when I needed it. I was particularly flummoxed by the “goals” essay, where I felt confused by what I felt in my gut, the advice I was being given, and what the AdComs were looking for. Debbie helped me simplify all of these messages and ultimately arrive on a story that I felt comfortable and authentic telling, which was also easy and compelling for my audience to understand. Debbie had a really warm and engaging style that also helped me connect with her and feel comfortable sharing my honest perspective. Thanks Debbie!
After working with Debbie on my applications, I was admitted to a top 10 MBA program! Debbie helped me with applying to 10 schools in only 1.5 months! I realized late in the game that I wanted to apply in Round 1, and I approached mbaMission to be paired with a consultant who could help me with my applications. I was very fortunate to have been paired with Debbie! For my first school, I had already prepared drafts by myself. I gave these to Debbie for review and confidently told her that these drafts were “near final” and only needed a quick read before submission. To my surprise, Debbie told me that my drafts needed a complete rewrite. I was shocked but appreciated her candidness and honesty. In the next week, I heavily relied on Debbie to provide feedback on my drafts. What I like about Debbie’s style is that she didn’t sugarcoat anything, always pushed me to reflect deeper on my experiences, and provided good advice to help me be more succinct in my writing. In my essays, I sometimes found myself getting lost in the details that the writing lacked the “so what?” factor. Debbie would redirect my attention to focus on the big picture and tell me to cut content if necessary. Further, her flexibility and positive attitude helped calm me down in times of stress and focus on the execution of the applications. After finishing my first application with Debbie, we had developed a great working relationship, and the rest of my 10 applications went rather smoothly. As a demanding client, I sent her at least 3 essays to review every day (Each school had 2-3 essays, so in total it was about 30 essays that I had sent her way). She always provided prompt, detailed and high-quality feedback. I even wondered how she was able to do all of this in so little time! Debbie is great at all aspects of the application, from helping me brainstorm ideas to outlining the actual essay and providing feedback. She was available through phone, skype, and email. I even did a mock interview with her over Skype two days before my actual interview and it made a tremendous difference. Before the interview, I was stuttering on the basic questions such as “Walk me through your resume”. But she gave me helpful feedback that allowed me to structure my answers and practice effectively, which made me feel confident going into my interview. In conclusion, Debbie is a stellar, seasoned, and top-notch consultant. Completing applications for 10 schools in 1.5 months was a daunting task, but Debbie maximized the limited time we had to help me craft stellar essays. If you work with Debbie, she will make sure that you are always submitting your best work! There were times when I submitted drafts that were weak, and Debbie held me accountable by asking me to rewrite the entire essay or think of new experiences to write about. I greatly enjoyed working with Debbie and definitely recommend with flying colors!
I got into my dream school all thanks to Debbie!! After hours of research, I decided to go with her and I’ve had no regrets. Before signing on with her, I felt a bit lost as to how to approach the essays after I got through the GMAT, and our first conversation was excellent motivation to get off my butt and start getting serious about thinking through my b-school story. The best thing about Debbie is that I got the feeling that I could talk openly and honestly about myself, which is so important in writing compelling essays. After a very detailed conversation about myself, she pin-pointed exactly what my selling points were and gave me great ideas for each of my essay topics. Of course, it was all on me to write the outlines and all the essays from start to end, but Debbie was always there to make sure I stuck to those initial outlines and helped keep me on track. Another great thing about working with Debbie is that she always made time to review my essays as many times as I needed until I felt comfortable with submitting them — and trust me, we went through A LOT of revisions. It was to the point where I felt bad about asking for one last revision, but she always came through for me. She told me in the beginning that she limits herself to a certain number of clients each year so that she could dedicate enough time to each one, and I could really tell that it was true! She’s also a great straightforward writer, which helped a lot in refining my sometimes convoluted writing style. I don’t consider myself a bad writer so the writing style of admissions consultants was what worried me most, and I definitely feel like I lucked out with Debbie. Debbie is such a kind, approachable person, but at the same time she’s extremely honest and a no-BS type of consultant. Don’t expect her to do your work for you — show that you’re serious about this and dedicated by doing all your work on time and putting a lot of hard work into it, and I have no doubt she’ll do the same.
