Great GPA and GMAT. Under-represented minority. Non-STEM major (not a good thing, but won’t stop you from being admitted).
HBS’s regular MBA program (let alone the 2+2 program) does NOT like to see public service as a post-MBA goal. Reason being, you certainly don’t need a *HARVARD* MBA to achieve this. You don’t… and most definitely not from deferral programs. People with a goal like that is not who they look for. Given they clearly stated that they want STEM majors… you can’t go on with a non-profit goal on your platter AND a business degree. Major ding. “You want Harvard, but does Harvard want you?”….
This makes me a bit nervous to know your pre-MBA goal which I assume is “to gain more experience in leadership positions”? Not good. This part is VITAL to your acceptance/rejection and you need to be as specific and ambitious (but still realistic) as possible.
You went from business administration to healthcare… but what exactly did you do at your time at the department of health? Were you an administration intern? Was it a part-time job? You are missing very important elements to your application here.
If you are interested in healthcare, try to possibly tie it into your post-MBA goal. However, something realistic like “I want to be the VP of Health Diversity at XYZ so I can ensure equitable resources to minority women in NYC”. See? Be very specific and realistic… show that you are already working towards that goal. You have the puzzle pieces, you just need to put them together. Don’t say “the world” or “global”… immediate red flag.
I see leadership in you by being the founder and president of a leadership chapter. Note that HBS wants people with a *habit* of leadership, not just one success. You could do something else, or possibly push your chapter into commendable growth. I see community service by being LGR success coach and a volunteer at a Hispanic development nonprofit. Your good GPA and GMAT are a tell-tale sign of your analytical aptitude, though it would be great to do something quant-y as well for an extracurricular.
My odds are 0% without the changes and 40% with the changes. Again, you have the stats and the puzzle pieces (+ being an URM is an advantage). It’s just a matter of arranging them in a model HBS 2+2 candidate mold. Good luck!
