The Palumbo-Donahue School’s MBA Sustainable Business Practices at Duquesne University is about transformative experiences, innovative leadership, and positive impact. Ranked 5th in the world and 1st in the U.S. for preparing students to change the world by Corporate Knights, each year we recruit a talented, diverse and collaborative community of students who will work together and form an invaluable lifelong network. Accredited by AACSB International, the full-time MBA Sustainable Business Practices emphasizes interdisciplinary exploration of the social, economic, environmental, informational and ethical dimensions of business.
The MBA Sustainable Business Practices is a unique, career-igniting alternative to a traditional two-year MBA program. In just one year, you will master MBA essentials and gain real-world experience by solving complex problems for multinational corporations. You will also advance global best practices and complete fieldwork abroad. As our Alumni say, “What a difference a year makes!”
Indeed, the MBA Sustainable Business Practices offers a high-touch, personalized learning approach where faculty collaborate with students to achieve their learning goals. Each cohort consists of a carefully selected group of students who begin their 12-month, three-semester, journey in late May. Our program blends business fundamentals, such as accounting, finance and marketing, with an experiential international trip and projects aimed at tackling important business issues. The program kicks-off with a week-long orientation where students learn team-building skills, interact with industry professionals, and explore career goals and interests.
In the first semester, students focus on theories, models and frameworks through courses such as Systems Thinking and Business Ethics. During the second semester, students tackle best practices through classes such as Strategic Sustainability and Models. The final semester emphasizes leadership development through courses such Strategic Innovation Management and Leading Change in Sustainable Enterprises.
Over the course of the program, students complete three consulting engagements, with assignments ranging from helping clients create revenue streams from waste to developing plans for new products and services. Among our previous clients for consulting projects are top-notch multinationals such as Alcoa, Bayer Material Science, FedEx Ground, GE, Heinz and PwC.
Students participate in an immersive international study trip over Spring Break during their Global Business course, experiencing international business firsthand and conducting fieldwork for multinational firms. Destinations in the past have included China, India, Germany, Iceland, Brazil and Peru.
