Columbia MBA Student Indicted for Brutal Attack On A Woman

A Columbia Business School student was indicted today (March 27) for allegedly attacking a woman and a police officer just outside the campus gates at 116^th St. and Broadway.

Ash Sinha, a 28-year-old MBA student from New Delhi, India, allegedly punched, kicked and bit a 22-year-old woman shortly after midnight on April 3, leaving the victim with a swollen face, abrasions on the knees and face, and bites on the legs.

He was charged in Manhattan Supreme Court with assault in the second degree, assault in the third degree as a hate crime, and resisting arrest. He pled not guilty to the charges and is expected to next appear in court on July 13^th.

According to police reports, Sinha appeared to be highly intoxicated when officers arrived on the scene. He continued to scream, asking people not to “crucify” him. He was
 taken to Harlem Hospital where, according to prosecutors, he continued a rage against the police and medical personnel, allegedly smashing medical equipment while he was being treated. The MBA student later transferred to the psychiatric ward at Bellevue Hospital.

A Department of Corrections officer told the Columbia Spectator Sinha was admitted to Bellevue on April 6 but posted bail two days later. He has not been readmitted, and is not currently in
custody.

A Facebook profile shows that Sinha previously attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he studied finance, statistics and computer science.
