Description: A multidisciplinary course developed in partnership with other Groningen faculty, this course provides tools so leaders can make choices despite lacking information or having to weigh an array of options and variables. Each week, guest lecturers will apply concepts related to areas like biology and psychology to economic and financial decision-making. These concepts include: “graph theory and networks, emergent behaviour, agent-based modeling, evolutionary dynamics, cellular automata and self-organisation, complexity in history, decision making under uncertainty, heuristics and biases and subsequently leadership and entrepreneurship.” In the final two weeks, students will apply these concepts to case studies involving the 2007-2008 financial collapse and the growth of cities. In addition to readings and video lectures, students will complete assignments and tests on the content, along with engaging in virtual discussions.
