More companies are planning to hire graduates of accounting master’s programs this year over last year, the Graduate Management Admission Council has just reported. Thirty-four per cent of companies that responded to GMAC’s annual employer survey said they planned to hire people with accounting master’s this year, up from 29% last year. And according to professional staffing firm Robert Half International, business growth is pushing up demand for accountants in corporate and public accounting. “General accounting skills are in demand, and payroll, billing and other areas that support business growth continue to see steady hiring activity, as well,” says a 2016 Robert Half report. “Companies continue to hire financial and business analysts to help them identify growth opportunities. They also seek accountants with specialized experience in revenue recognition, generally accepted accounting principles and Securities and Exchange Commission reporting.” Robert Half forecasts salaries for entry-level general accounting jobs in mid-sized companies to range from $45,000 to $55,000 this year.
