Management Master’s At 100 Top Business Schools

You could call the management master’s a human catapult. Ideally, it propels job seekers into the business world, to landing points far higher than they’d reach with only a college degree. In fact, many schools market these programs specifically toward holders of bachelor’s degrees in non-business majors. “College graduates are facing unprecedented competition when looking for full-time employment,” says a Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management introduction to their management studies master’s program. “If you have a liberal arts, science or math background, the Kellogg MSMS Program can give you the management and business skills critical to make you stand out — all in less than one year.”

If Kellogg’s numbers are to be believed, that marketing is not mere hype: the program’s class of 2015 were 100% employed within three months of graduation, according to the school. The curriculum covers business basics, and is current enough to include business analytics along with accounting, marketing, leadership, strategy, and other required courses.

Most of the specialized master’s in management target recent college graduates. In fact, Kellogg doesn’t even accept applications from people with more than 10 months of full-time work experience, or from people with undergraduate business degrees. At the Duke University Fuqua School of Business, some 60% of the 110 students in a typical class have six or fewer months of work experience, and an average age of 23.

In the table below are the management master’s programs that mostly concern the management of people; degrees in fields such as supply chain management, IT management, and risk management are not included in this listing.
