When you think of Notre Dame, what are the first things that come to mind? How have your experiences with the Mendoza program thus far reinforced or upended these early impressions? The first thing comes to my mind is the Golden Dome. When the main building was burnt down in 1879, Father Sorin rebuilt it up and made it even bigger and better. For me, it symbolizes the love from GOD, and also the perseverance a leader should possess. MBA life at Mendoza is busy and challenging. We are receiving rigorous academic training from a world-class faulty, while also being actively involved in internship and job recruitment. As a mom of two boys, I felt overwhelmed in the beginning but the support I received from my classmates, Notre Dame staff and faculty, and the career services workers helped me overcome my fears. I also have very talented classmates in my study group to work on assignment together. Cathy and Debbie are always giving me great advise when it comes choosing childcare for my kids. I said it before, but I cannot stress enough how amazing the career services center is. Not only providing practical training on networking and interview preparation, but also putting Notre Dame alumnus in contact with current students for job opportunities. From my personal experience, Mendoza MBA program “break me down and re-build me up” by cultivating and employing great support system.

Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of the Mendoza MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? It is the experiential learning opportunity — Business on the Frontlines Program. Students can apply the knowledge they received from classroom to solve real-world problems. It has been successfully applied for years to international business cases. And last year, it expanded into business cases in the U.S. The one that excites me most revolves around solving a real business problem in South Bend. I moved to Carmel, Indiana, during the pandemic and really bought in to being a Hoosier. This is also another reason I really wanted to be at Notre Dame. It has been incredible to interact with the nice, hard-working individuals in Indiana. Ultimately, I want to contribute my knowledge and skills from various background to work with them together to build the place better.

What course, club or activity have you enjoyed the most so far at Mendoza? I actively participated in a variety of different clubs. The one I enjoyed most is the Healthcare and Biotech Business club. It is a professional development-oriented club, which helps members gain a wide range of knowledge in health care industry, as well as helps students with potential healthcare-related employment opportunities. Mendoza has great alums who are working at pharmaceutical companies, and they are very actively engaged in the club activities.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: When I worked at IG Wealth Management in Montreal, I was leading a financial planning team to provide holistic wealth planning for high-net-worth clients. My typical clients were successful business owners who had immigrated from China to Canada. In 2020, my team’s net cash inflow ranked number 1 in whole Quebec region in my company. The asset under management reached 50 million before I joined Mendoza.

Describe your biggest accomplishment as an MBA student so far? I would say thanks to the great training and advice from the career service center, and also the supportive alumni network, I was able to secure my 2022 summer internship in September 2021 at a recruitment conference. I was offered to join Eli Lilly’s MBA finance internship program and I am very excited about it.

Mendoza is known as a purpose-driven MBA program that asks students to “Grow the good in business.” What is your mission and how has Mendoza been helping you realize it? I have 9 years of work experience, and I have worked in multi-national corporations in different countries and in various roles. I have worked with so many talented individuals and being inspired by great leaders in my journey. One common trait I noticed in successful leaders was that they were not just focusing on the how and what, but the why. They have this sense of mission — an inspirational vision — and show great effort to be successful. Mendoza is advocating to “grow the good in business.” As a financial professional who is going to work in health-care industry, my mission is to make medication and treatment more affordable for patients. Mendoza is preparing me with the right knowledge — both financial and moral — to contribute to humanity.

What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into the Mendoza MBA program? Mendoza is the great place for future business leaders who are putting human flourishing near to their hearts. So, if you are one of them, please apply and feel free to reach out to current students to know more about the program. Don’t be shy! Let’s talk!
