Andrew is a 32-year-old MBA candidate with an unusual story, and HBSGuru.com’s Sandy Kreisberg is handicapping his MBA odds.
Once homeless, he overcame his early adversity to join the Army Reserves in Canada, earn his undergraduate degree from Concordia University and land a job as an actuarial analyst with Deloitte.
He wants to get an MBA to pivot to a more business-oriented role possibly in fintech and eventually start his own company longer term.
He is set on either an M7 admission to Harvard, MIT, Columbia, or Kellogg. Otherwise, he would prefer to stay in Canada where he is hoping to gain an admit to the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Business.
Andrew brings an impressive 331 GRE score to the game, higher than any of the class averages at his target schools, but a lowish grade point average of 3.2.
In this episode of Fridays With Sandy, HBSGuru.com Founder Kreisberg and P&Q Editor-in-Chief John A. Byrne provide advice on both his application strategy and the elements of his MBA application.
