MBA Handicapping: Mexican Engineer A Fit For Haas & MIT?

 

Agustin applied to three schools this past admissions cycle: Stanford Graduate School of Business, MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and UC-Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. After an outright turn down from Stanford, he managed to find himself on two waitlists. MIT said no, but he is still hopeful that Haas is in the cards.

With a 710 GMAT on the second try (an improvement of 60 points on his first test) and a 3.3 GPA studying chemical engineering at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. Though his stats are below the class averages for his targeted MBA programs, he brings a wealth of international work experience to the party. For three and one-half years, he worked in operations consulting at a Mexican firm with operations throughout Latin America. Little more than a year ago, he joined the world leading consultant in pricing and commercial strategy, opening up its Mexico City office. Agustin has worked on projects in Costa Rica and Columbia, did a six-month-long R&D internship in Germany and also spent an exchange semester in Hong Kong.
