What excites you the most about living in New York City and how do you see it enhancing your learning experience? New York has always appealed to me due to its melting pot of culture, diverse communities and global cuisine. Being in the heart of the city allows for prime access to professional opportunities with the ability to network, attend coffee chats and meet in person at short notice. The proximity to Wall Street is a significant bonus for those seeking careers in finance and beyond that there are endless cultural opportunities within the city. With art museums such as the MoMA, Met, and Guggenheim, as well as music and film exhibitions and local food hotspots, there are always new cultural opportunities to explore. The ability to explore creative media also helps to foster a more open mindset which is equally valuable in the professional world.

Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of NYU Stern’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? It was the number of experiential learning opportunities, whether that be in courses such as the Michael Price Student Investment Fund or courses abroad, to the number of leadership and mentorship opportunities within campus. I felt that Stern truly reflected a student-led environment. The focus on putting the candidates first and encouraging them to evaluate careers based on their core values was something I found unique to Stern and is reflected in the tight-knit community and alumni. To me, Stern provides an environment that empowers MBA candidates to use their voice to drive change.

This was a significant incentive for me in choosing Stern as I felt I could truly get an experience where I will get out what I put in. I feel more motivated to contribute to the community and have an impact beyond the academic setting.

What course, club or activity excites you the most at NYU Stern? There are a multitude of courses and clubs that I am keen to get involved in. The Michael Price Student Investment Fund is one such example where, as part of the course, candidates get the opportunity to work as a portfolio manager. Working with real capital and actual risk is extremely appealing to me as it allows you to learn in a high-pressure environment. Deploying real capital and being answerable to investors means you need to have conviction supported by data and analytics when executing investments and it pushes you to learn how to adapt to risk in a tangible way.

In addition, I am looking forward to being a part of several of Stern’s MBA clubs such as Stern Investment Management and Research, Stern Women in Business, and other clubs such as arts, culture and cuisine.

What does EQ (Emotional Intelligence) mean to you and when have you seen its value in your career? EQ is paramount to establishing a strong network of relationships, and is a superpower in today’s world driven by quantitative decision frameworks and AI powered theses. Being able to strike the balance between quantitative analysis with highly personable communication and creative thought is an invaluable skill. To me, this is becoming more and more fundamental to stand out in today’s industry. I have seen the value in deploying this skill many times in my own career, when communicating with investors during fundraising, building Hivemind’s brand as a respected investor to secure industry partnerships, and fostering internal communications between teams. Being able to not only understand, digest and analyze big data, but also translate it in comprehensive terms was a significant part of my role at Hivemind and is an asset I know I will need going forward.

In addition, building and managing amicable long-lasting partnerships can often be met with difficulty, particularly where there are tensions or disputes over commercial terms. In my experience, asserting a position without antagonizing your counterparts is an invaluable skill which establishes a mutual respect, leading to strong professional relationships.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: Working in a small team managing a large fund meant I received a significant amount of autonomy in multiple aspects of my role. At Hivemind, I was privileged to lead equity research and portfolio strategy within the blockchain mining Investment vertical. Not only did I conduct extensive research and macro analysis to identify key areas with strong upside potential, but I also built out Hivemind’s brand as an expert investor in this space. I attended industry events and developed a strategy for building network relations with senior executives. This allowed me to secure a number of partnerships between Hivemind and large firms. I was able to see the fruits of this labor when reputable publicly listed firms began to approach me requesting to meet and propose partnership or investment opportunities.

What is your unique quality that will enable you to make a big contribution to the Class of 2026?  I was born in London to Irish parents and grew up in Geneva, Switzerland where I was privileged to engage with a diverse international community, which has had a significant impact on my work ethic and outlook in life. In my professional experience, being situated in the overlap between traditional macro and the blockchain space has allowed me to build a unique perspective on how new technologies can be used to disrupt the traditional financial system.

I have found peer-to-peer mentorship one of the most effective ways of improving. Building on the mentorship and support work I have already done to encourage gender and intersectional diversity in the industry, my background allows me to share a unique perspective with the community to increase diversity of opinion, and I welcome the challenge from others with equally unique backgrounds.

For me, NYU Stern offers an invaluable opportunity to immerse myself in a diverse community of ambitious individuals where I can be challenged by unique perspectives academically, professionally and personally.

What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into NYU Stern’s MBA program? Focus on what makes you tick. Aside from all the traditional credentials, Stern has a strong focus on EQ, and the Pick Six essay is a great way to showcase more of yourself outside of a professional setting. Explore the program’s courses and extracurricular opportunities to see what excites you most and incorporate that in your application. Stern also has a very strong alumni community so reach out to alumni or members of clubs you are interested in directly. You’d be surprised how many are willing to offer support and guidance.
