What has been your first impression of the Tuck MBA students and alumni you’ve met so far. Tell us your best Tuck story so far. The Tuck Tripod Hockey League held its highly anticipated player draft a few weeks ago. For the uninitiated, Tripod Hockey is a longstanding Tuck tradition. It’s a hockey league where players stay upright by using their hockey stick as a third leg. The league is complete with wacky team names including Shake it Off(side), Stick Season, and Blades and Confused. The draft had strong attendance, ranging from students to alums who had been recruiting on campus for their company earlier in the day. Seeing a wide array of Tuckies interacting at the draft was wonderful. No one was taking themselves too seriously, which encapsulates the Tripod, and Tuck, spirit.

Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of Dartmouth Tuck’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? Tuck’s rural location and unified campus layout enable organic interactions with students, faculty, and staff. The class size (just shy of 300) allows for repeat interactions across diverse contexts, which helps you transform acquaintanceships into meaningful connections. The responsiveness and generosity of Tuck’s alumni network is a direct translation of the campus experience. What makes Tuck special is that every member makes an impact on the community—that gets people fired up!

What excites you the most about coming to live in Hanover? What is the one activity you can’t wait to do? Cycling. I road raced in college and love keeping up with the professional circuit. Hanover is uniquely positioned on the New Hampshire-Vermont border, so I’m excited to explore terrain on both sides of the Connecticut River.

What course, club or activity excites you the most at Dartmouth Tuck? The Tuck Band is marvelous. It’s a Tuck club — there’s one band made up of first-years and one of second-years. The two bands play at Band Party, which is hosted multiple times throughout the year, and has fun themes. For the avoidance of doubt… I am not in the band. However, I am a proud supporter and concertgoer! Hearing live music is a treat – especially when it’s performed by your friends on a Friday night.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: In early 2020, I worked at a fintech startup in Namibia focused on e-mortgages. I supported the development of our minimum viable product and advanced relationships with counterparties in the financial and housing sector. The following year, I joined the investment team of the Williams College endowment, which serves as a source of capital for numerous startups around the globe through its partnerships with investment firms. Serving in these two roles provided me end-to-end perspective of the crucial funding ecosystem for innovation and inspired me to contribute to intergenerational equity and institutional advancement throughout my career.

What do you hope to do after graduation (at this point)? From a young age, I have worked in my family’s restaurant in Colombia. I have enjoyed tackling the operational and strategic issues of the restaurant and strengthening its people-centric business model. After graduation, I hope to refine and apply these learnings by serving as an advisor to global businesses.

What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into Dartmouth Tuck’s MBA program? As you get to know the Tuck community, visualize yourself walking the halls between classes, hosting and attending club events, sharing a meal downtown with classmates, and discovering the surrounding natural beauty. Importantly, consider moments that will take you beyond your comfort zone. Putting words to these thoughts and coupling them with specific examples will help you communicate to admissions that you are aware of and committed to the transformative experience of the Tuck MBA.
