Carey’s New Executive MBA Program For Executive-Level Growth by: Johns Hopkins Carey Business School on September 23, 2025 | 203 Views September 23, 2025 Copy Link Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Email Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Share on Reddit Today’s business landscape calls for leaders to do more than just manage. They’re expected to innovate, inspire, and navigate organizations through challenges with confidence. That’s why Johns Hopkins Carey Business School created the new Executive MBA, designed for experienced professionals ready to take that next step in their careers. The Executive MBA is a fast-paced, 19-month program for senior professionals and rising executives with a strong record of leadership and a desire to expand their impact. The EMBA has an AI-first curriculum, powerful network, and transformative leadership development that aligns with your career ambitions. And the format allows you to gain your degree without putting your career on pause. A Strategic Hub For Health, Tech, And Innovation Washington, D.C. isn’t just where the EMBA residencies are held. It’s where public policy, tech innovation, and health leadership converge. The program puts our students at the center of conversations shaping the future of business. “Positioning the Executive MBA in Washington, D.C. provides special opportunities for student interaction with industry leaders who are headquartered and based in the capital region, as well as policymakers and strategy experts,” said Executive MBA Academic Program Director David Smith. Residencies are three days, typically Thursday through Sunday at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C. In addition to participating in classes, students have the opportunity for networking, co-curriculars, and interactions with leaders and experts from across Johns Hopkins. “We’re inviting experts from other schools and disciplines at Johns Hopkins to create an intimate environment for connection with our students,” said Smith. A Curriculum For The New Age Once a buzzword but now a staple, artificial intelligence is reshaping how industries do business. Knowing that AI is no longer a distant concept, today’s leaders must understand how to leverage it effectively. And the Executive MBA purposefully integrates artificial intelligence across the entire curriculum. Through various tools and concepts, AI is taught in different contexts to address the opportunities and challenges that come with the technology. Some of the courses focus entirely on the business uses of AI, from ethical and responsible implementation to specialized AI applications that senior leaders may need to familiarize themselves with. In other courses like Strategic Management, AI may be used to simulate how organizations and leaders respond to various choices and decisions that are made in a virtual business environment. What Sets The Executive MBA Apart Carey’s Executive MBA follows a hybrid format, combining residencies with online learning. Over 19-months, 14 of the months typically include a three-day residency at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C. While the program includes residencies in Washington, D.C., it was also designed to provide flexibility outside of residencies for busy senior leaders. To continue the cohort experience, after completing the second semester, students attend online courses in the summer of their first year. There is also a fall term in the second year that does not include residencies, helping alleviate the amount of travel to Washington, D.C. The program is cohort-centered, meaning you’ll move through the experience alongside a tight-knit circle of accomplished professional peers. This structure encourages deep connections, collaborative learning, and a shared commitment to growth that extends far beyond Carey. Along the way, you’ll gain access to the Johns Hopkins alumni network that extends over 260,000 professionals around the world and the Carey community of executive mentors, industry leaders, and strategic partners. EMBA students can choose to specialize in leadership and strategy or health care, backed by the strong leadership strengths at Carey and across the Johns Hopkins ecosystem and its top-ranked schools of Schools of Medicine and Nursing, and the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Or, students can choose to not specialize and take electives to customize their learning in other key business disciplines that fit their overall career goals. Like our other MBA offerings, the Executive MBA delivers a strong foundation in core business areas such as finance, accounting, leadership, organizational behavior, and more. At its core, the program emphasizes business strategy with opportunities to apply these real-world concepts through core courses, electives, and EMBA-specific coursework. “This is an opportunity to hone those business skills to tackle current workplace challenges,” said Smith. Courses are taught by highly respected faculty, who bring experience from diverse industries, blending academic excellence with deep real-world knowledge. Our faculty understand what it takes to lead complex organizations through uncertainty and change, and what leaders tend to face today. With firsthand insight, our faculty equip students with the strategic thinking, adaptability, and problem-solving skills to do the same. Signature Experiential Learning The Executive MBA program concludes with the Executive Field Project, where student teams act as consultants and partner with real businesses to tackle their pressing business challenges. The experience gives students the opportunity dive into high-level business problems firsthand and leverage what they are learning in the classroom. Before the Executive Field Project, students take part in a global immersion that brings them to an international destination to learn how innovation and leadership operates in global markets. Each year’s destination changes to offer fresh perspectives and new contexts for understanding the global marketplace.
