The city’s vibrant feel still attracts go-getters from all over the world – making it an exciting place to pursue an MBA. As the name suggests, the B-school is based in Hong Kong – a diverse and highly populated city with both beautiful beaches and high rises. The culture blends traditions from both East and West, and much of the city is English-speaking. Their public transportation system is highly efficient, extensive, and well-integrated, with a network of buses, trams, ferries, and the renowned Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system. The CUHK MBA is flexible and broken down into four terms with an optional fifth term, which allows anywhere from 12-16 months to complete the degree. Within the program are an emphasis on global exposure, learning content in the digital age, exchange programs, and hands-on experiences. Core courses dominate the first portion of the program, although uniquely, participants can begin customizing their experience right from the start, with electives also kicking off in the first term. To further customize the degree, students can choose from six optional concentrations in Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Information & Technology Management, Finance, China Business, and Marketing. The same blend of foundations and electives continues throughout the program, with a field trip in either term two or four. Students also undertake a business practicum where they work in groups of three to five on a project with a local business. Like all MBAs, this one has an international element, too. Business field trips take students to either Germany, to study the European start-up scene, Taiwan to look at social enterprise, Silicon Valley or — newly added — Kazakhstan to look at the impact of China’s Belt and Road Initiative there. Students can go on exchange with several leading global business schools, including CEIBS in Shanghai, London Business School, and the University of Michigan. Those who choose to extend their MBA to 16 months spend the last term (September to December) either taking an intensive course of electives, taking a three- to four-month exchange at a partner school, or transforming their MBA into a dual degree from both CUHK and HEC Paris, RSM, in Rotterdam, of the University of Austin, Texas. CUHK also has a partnership with the Pan-Asia Venture Development Platform (PAVD) which is known to be one of the world’s largest venture investment clubs that connects students with angel investors and venture capitalists across Asia. “CUHK MBA helped me achieve a promotion and expand my job scope with comprehensive leadership and management training. After graduation, I was promoted to a senior management position. My job scope also expanded from regional level to global level, which includes the coordination of production, merchandising, sales and marketing, and more – all because the program has taken me to the next level,” says MBA Clara Au on CUHK’s website.
