Karen Hamou Consulting | MBA Admissions Consultants

Working with Piper was one of the best decisions I made throughout my MBA application journey.

From the very beginning, she took the time to truly understand who I was, not just my resume or accomplishments, but the experiences that shaped me and the reasons I wanted to pursue an MBA. Through countless conversations and thoughtful questions she helped me discover what I genuinely wanted my future to look like. Piper helped me find clarity in the direction I wanted my career to take. She also has an exceptional ability to bring out the best version of your story. Rather than rewriting my experiences, she helped me understand how to communicate them in a way that reflected my personality, and ambitions. Looking back at where I started compared to the final essays, the difference is remarkable, and I couldn’t have gotten there without her guidance.

I was working under a very compressed timeline and made countless sacrifices to put together the strongest application I could, and Piper was right alongside. She was incredibly patient, and genuinely invested in my success and I never felt like I was just another applicant on her calendar.

The outcome exceeded anything I could have imagined. I was admitted to Columbia Business School (my top choice) and received a substantial scholarship. I know my application was dramatically stronger because of Piper. I’m incredibly grateful for everything Piper has done for me. She didn’t just help me get into Columbia, she helped change the trajectory of my life and I can’t recommend her highly enough.

When I started the deferred MBA application process, I scheduled free consultations with several admissions consultants. After talking with Karen, I knew pretty much immediately that I wanted to work with her.

I wasn’t a typical deferred MBA applicant. I had an unconventional background that didn’t fit neatly into the usual consulting, finance, or banking mold. And, most importantly, I had a GPA below 3.0. Most of the consultants I spoke with focused almost entirely on those weaknesses. The conversations revolved around damage control and “expectation management,” and a few even suggested I skip deferred admissions altogether.

Karen took a completely different approach. She never ignored the GPA or pretended it wasn’t a challenge, but she also didn’t let it define my application. Nor did she ever try to talk me out of applying to the top programs I dreamed of attending. Instead, she focused on what made my background different and helped me build a story around it. She connected experiences that I had always thought of separately and turned them into a logical throughline that really made sense.

She was also just great to work with. The process never felt like I was being pushed through the same system as everyone else. She remembered small details from previous conversations, gave thoughtful feedback instead of generic edits, and very clearly cared about making my application as strong as it could be. More than once (sorry again, Karen!), I sent her questions or essay drafts late at night and woke up to a detailed response waiting in my inbox the next morning.

Another thing I especially appreciated was that she never tried to rewrite my essays into her voice or turn me into an inauthentic version of myself. She challenged my thinking, asked great questions, and helped me explain things more clearly, but the finished application still felt like me, just much clearer and more compelling than I could have written on my own.

I was fortunate to be accepted to Kellogg through the deferred admissions process. Given my GPA (again, below a 3.0) and how competitive M7 deferred admissions are, I honestly couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

Looking back, what stands out most is that Karen saw the potential in my application when a lot of other consultants mostly saw the obstacles. I’m incredibly grateful for her guidance and would recommend her without hesitation, especially to applicants with unconventional backgrounds or anyone who doesn’t fit the “standard” MBA profile.

Karen was simply the best partner throughout my MBA admissions journey. From our first conversation, it was clear she had an exceptional ability to identify the strongest themes across my background and help me craft a story that felt both authentic and compelling.

Karen was incredibly thoughtful, responsive, and genuinely invested in my success. As someone who tends to be a perfectionist, I especially appreciated that she never rushed the process. She was always willing to go through another round of revisions to make my essays as strong as they could be.

Her support extended far beyond essay editing. She thoroughly prepared me for interviews through mock interviews and feedback sessions that helped me feel confident walking into every conversation.

She also went above and beyond when I was waitlisted at my top choice program – helping me think through waitlist updates, review emails to admissions, making sure every communication put my best foot forward.

I truly appreciated how supportive Karen was whenever the process felt overwhelming. Whenever I started second-guessing myself or needed to talk something through (which happened a lot!), she never hesitated to make time for a call.

I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I was admitted to three M7 programs and will be attending my dream program this fall, and I know I submitted a much stronger application because of Karen. I’m incredibly grateful for everything she did to help me get there, and I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Karen was an exceptional partner throughout my MBA application process. What stood out most was her responsiveness and communication — no matter how busy the application season became, she was always quick to provide thoughtful feedback, answer questions, and keep the process moving forward.

To me, Karen’s greatest strength was her ability to identify the common threads across seemingly unrelated experiences, helping me build a compelling narrative that was truly authentic. We connected experiences from my career, community involvement, family background, and long-term goals into essays that genuinely reflected who I am. This preparation not only helped across all my applications, but also in my interview preparation.

Most importantly, Karen helped me develop a much clearer understanding of my own story and how to communicate it effectively.

I was thrilled to receive four acceptances (three at M7s), all with scholarships, and I don’t believe that I would have achieved these results without Karen’s guidance, insight, and support.

Karen is truly exceptional. After speaking with several admissions consultants, it became clear that she brings something unique to the process. With nothing more than my resume and a brief questionnaire she designed to better understand applicants, she was able to quickly identify the story, themes, and positioning that would make me the strongest possible candidate for my target schools.

What stood out most was how much she genuinely cared. Every other consultant I spoke with spent the majority of our consultation discussing pricing, scheduling, and broad assessments based on GPA, test scores, employer, and undergraduate institution. Karen approached our first conversation like a real working session. She is incredibly warm, thoughtful, and immediately creates an environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences and aspirations.

Rather than focusing solely on credentials, she wanted to understand who I was as a person. She asked about what I enjoy doing in my free time, what motivates me at work, and what I hope to accomplish in the future. She then connected themes from my upbringing, education, professional experiences, interests, and goals into a cohesive narrative that aligned with what top business schools value in applicants. It was genuinely eye-opening to watch someone view my profile so holistically and articulate a vision for my application that I could never have developed on my own.

Karen was also incredibly supportive throughout the application process. As someone who struggles with self-imposed deadlines, I appreciated her flexibility, responsiveness, and remarkably fast turnaround times for feedback. Despite applying to 11 schools by the Round 1 deadline, I always felt supported and never felt like just another client.

What I appreciated most was that Karen never discouraged ambition. No matter how competitive a school seemed, she approached every application with enthusiasm and commitment, helping me present the strongest version of myself rather than limiting my aspirations.

Her interview preparation was equally outstanding. Through multiple mock interviews with both Karen and her associate, I went into each interview feeling confident and prepared. As someone who experiences significant interview anxiety and had not interviewed in person for years, that preparation made an enormous difference.

I cannot recommend Karen highly enough. She combines strategic insight, genuine care, responsiveness, and deep expertise in a way that is incredibly rare. If you are considering an MBA admissions consultant, I strongly encourage you to speak with her. At the very least, schedule a consultation, you will quickly see why she stands out.

The title speaks for itself, but words can not show how amazing Karen was throughout this process. She does an incredible job helping with applications and does an amazing job with analyzing your essays, resume, and how you present yourself, which is absolutely crucial in applying to top tier business schools. Candidly, Karen and I must have been on version 11 of my resume, that the attention to detail she has. What stands out most to me, though, outside of the essays and formalities, is she gets to know who you are as a person, why you want the MBA, what you want to accomplish, and the person you want to become . I come from a heavy science background working in labs, so my goals were a big pivot as with many other applicants. For me, Karen helped not only in self reflection to find out what I wanted out of school, but also my career path and where I wanted to be 15, 20, and 25 years from now. Karen pushed me to apply to schools that before meeting her I didn’t think I even had a shot, as a result I landed two M7 interviews, another top 10 acceptance, and acceptance to my dream school CBS with $100k scholarship (which you guessed it, Karen also was instrumental in helping me secure this). She was candid when you needed it, always personable, and willing to listen to your thoughts. If I could give 6 stars I would! Karen helped change the trajectory of my life, and I could not be more thankful.

As I began my MBA application journey, I was excited at the prospect of returning to school but daunted by the process. Being more than a few years removed from my undergraduate application – and the toils of application essay writing – I found it difficult to formalize and crystalize both my personal story and my “why” for pursuing an MBA.

Without Karen, I would not have made it through this process as seamlessly as she allowed. From day one, she helped distill the jumbled thoughts in my head into a coherent, compelling, and impactful story, who I was, what my goals were, and why I belonged at my dream schools. Her experience showed in how expertly she guided me through each step, with a keen attention to detail that kept me both focused and optimistic.

Karen’s ability to be direct – making clear what was working and what wasn’t – without being discouraging was the perfect combination for me. It kept me grounded and moving forward. She was also exceptionally responsive. In a process with a lot of moving parts and tight deadlines, I was genuinely appreciative of how quickly she turned around everything from quick email questions to full essay drafts. Most importantly, she took the time to understand what was actually distinctive about my background and built outward from there. At times she was more confident in my candidacy than I was, and she had a real talent for surfacing and articulating details from my past experience that helped me stand out.

Ultimately, I could not be happier: admitted to two M7 programs, attending my top choice in the fall. I’m genuinely grateful for the time and effort Karen put into this process with me, it made a real difference and I could not have done it without her!

BLUF: Applied to 6 schools, 5 of them for joint degrees, 4 M7s. I got into every program aside from 1x M7,which I received an invite to interview after being on the waitlist and denied having made my decision. I felt Karen was instrumental in getting there. I had significant essay development work previously and Karen worked with me to sharpen to a level that I am certain would not have have been possible without her help! I would recommend her to anyone. Furthermore, she is not just a master at her craft, but enjoyable to work with.

I engaged Karen pretty late into the application cycle. At the time, I hadn’t started studying for my GRE, I hadn’t seriously reflected on my story, and I had a bold plan to only apply to 3 schools. From the start, her process reflected her intentionality, commitment to her clients, and expertise with b-school applications.

Her introduction questionnaire immediately forced me to reflect more deeply, and it was clear that she read each of my answers thoughtfully, finding through-lines and deeper themes that I hadn’t noticed. She helped me every step of the way, creating and adjusting my application timeline as needed based on how I was progressing.
She’s clearly very familiar with the nuances of all of the top MBA programs, and helped me tailor my story and strategy to each one. She helped me land interviews and offers at 2 of the 3 schools I applied to, and gave me confidence in my strategy throughout. She helped me prepare for my interviews as well, tailoring each mock to the school and its format.

Karen is simply the best. Her calendar always has availability and she turns comments within a day in most cases. That said, you will get out of it what you put into it; she’s there for you every step of the way, but it’s on you to own the cadence, adhere to the timeline, and come to her when you need her.

Karen was an exceptional partner throughout my MBA application process. As someone pursuing a somewhat unconventional path and long-term goal, what stood out most was her ability to help me connect my experiences and long-term goals into a story that clearly differentiated my application.

She also has an exceptional understanding of what top MBA programs are looking for and pays close attention to the small details that make an application stronger. She knows how to strategically select what to include for each prompt in order to craft an application that comes together as a well-rounded narrative.

With her help, I was able to gain admission to my top-choice M7 program, as well as several other M7 schools. I do not think my application would have been nearly as well structured without her guidance, and I could not recommend her more highly to anyone aiming for top MBA programs.

Karen was instrumental in my MBA application process from start to finish. I experienced her keen ability to listen and see through the long-winded explanation of my life, pulling the best pieces of myself into our conversation. She challenged me to push my creativity in writing and instilled confidence in my personal story. Her attention to detail is unmatched, and she’s a killer editor. While the process can seem overwhelming, Karen has a clear action plan, making it easier to balance work, applications and everything else. I truly don’t think I would’ve gotten to where I am without her support. Coming from an athlete, Karen is the best in her sport!

Karen was referred to me by a friend, and I am incredibly thankful to have met and worked with her! She is an amazing storyteller and really helped me pick out the most meaningful things to write about in telling a coherent story as to why I was a good fit for certain MBA programs. I reached out to Karen because I wanted to be sure that my applications were the best that they could be – and she definitely helped make that happen. Karen assisted me with applications to four programs, and I was accepted to all four (two M7s). I am very excited to be attending my top choice in the fall and I received scholarship money on top of that. Thank you to Karen for all that she did to help me in the application process!

I could not have asked for a better experience while applying for my MBA! Karen is amazing to work with—she’s incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, and helped me feel confident at every step of the process.

She’s especially good at identifying candidates’ strengths and leaning into them in a way that feels authentic, helping you clearly articulate what actually makes you stand out rather than fitting you into a generic mold. One of the most valuable parts was how she helped me connect all the dots—she made it clear how to stitch together my experiences into a story that makes sense for my goals, which made the whole process feel a lot more intentional and genuine for each school.

Not to mention, she’s extremely personable and genuinely fun to work with, which made a stressful process feel enjoyable.

I ended up getting into every school I interviewed with and will be attending an M7 in the fall. Karen is thoughtful, reliable, quick to give feedback, and deeply invested in your success—I’d wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone going through this process.

Karen was tremendously supportive and helpful during a process that would have been overwhelming to do alone. I applied to 8 schools (6 M7 and 2 international) and was ultimately admitted into 7/8.
Karen helped me to think deeply about my journey and experiences, and develop a common thread through which I could tell my story. She took the time to understand what made me and my experiences unique, and helped me to convey that through my essays and application.
For my interviews, Karen met with me to do Mocks and was very knowledgeable about what to expect and how to prepare for each school.
I am enrolling in my dream school this fall, and I don’t think I could have done it without Karen.

I truly don’t have enough words to express how highly I recommend Karen. To me, Karen was far more than an MBA consultant; she was a mentor, a psychologist, and a role model.

Our journey began at a low point for me. I hadn’t yet achieved my target GMAT score, even after a year of frustrating study. Just as I was about to give up on this dream, Karen stepped in. She believed in me from the very first moment, providing the perfect advice and knowing exactly how to motivate me to push beyond my limits. For that, I am incredibly grateful.

Karen is the ultimate partner to have by your side during this intense process. She knew exactly how to help me polish and emphasize my story, and I trusted her guidance at every step. Her responsiveness and attention to detail were unmatched; she helped me find the “golden thread” in my professional and personal life that I hadn’t even recognized myself. When the pressure of applications peaked, Karen’s calm and steady presence kept me focused and confident.

Karen is a dream-maker. With her help, I was admitted to Wharton, Booth ($40K scholarship), Kellogg, and Darden ($120K scholarship).

Saying that Karen was invaluable would be an understatement. Without her guidance, I would not have been admitted to my dream M7 program despite having a lower-than-median GRE score and GPA. She was instrumental in helping me craft a compelling story in my essays, prepare thoroughly for interviews, guide my recommenders to highlight my strengths and help me stand out, and navigate strategic decisions—such as transitioning from a Round 1 to a Round 2 application—throughout nearly a year of working with her. It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to work with her, and I could not recommend Karen more highly to anyone seeking to apply to and be accepted at a top business school.

Karen was so immensely helpful in helping me craft my own story and giving me confidence in myself. I ended up getting into my top 3 schools and will be attending an M7 this coming fall. The level of detail, responsiveness, creativity, and coaching is second to none and I couldn’t have asked for better. She was an invaluable resource for essay and resume writing, as well as general strategic planning for school engagement and interviews. The best and I cannot thank her enough for helping me get into my dream school!

I am by no means a traditional applicant. A 22 year old admitted to Northwestern University’s JD-MBA program with just 6 months of full time employment post-grad? Karen recognized my potential and helped me define my strengths and articulate my career goals with poise and sophistication. Struggling to prove out-sized maturity and impact, I utilized Karen’s insights to submit an application I was earnestly proud of. She was critical in restructuring my essays, practicing the tough video essay and interview questions that challenged my age/experience level, and cultivating within myself an internal belief system that would shine through to the admissions committee. More than this, however, Karen became a real friend and somebody whom I hope to stay connected with throughout my career.

TL;DR: I got into 3 M7 schools and 2 Top 10 schools with scholarships—including a full ride. Could not have done it without Karen.

If you’re like me, the MBA process can feel overwhelming. It’s easy to get lost in the noise and start comparing yourself to the “perfect” Forbes 30U30 profiles. Somewhere along the way, you forget what actually makes YOU stand out.

That’s where Karen came in. She’s not only extremely professional, super detail-oriented, and scary smart —I also felt that she was genuinely invested in my success. She put in more time, thought, and energy than I ever could have imagined, crafting a strategy that brought out the very best version of MY story.

Karen has the rare combination of expertise and heart. Her positive energy was literally (figuratively) contagious, and I left every brainstorming meeting feeling more confident, more focused, and more authentic.

Thanks to Karen, I didn’t just submit strong applications—I submitted applications that reflected who I really am. The results were amazing, but it’s the process I look back at and truly appreciate.

I honestly couldn’t ask for a better person to coach me through this process.

Karen was instrumental in my success as an applicant. She was always a pleasure to work with–warm, supportive, and genuinely invested in the process. She was both incredibly organized, which was invaluable for a natural procrastinator like me, and remarkably flexible with her schedule. Her feedback was thoughtful and always delivered with impressive speed, yet never felt rushed. Most importantly, Karen has a gift for helping you refine your message: she preserves your authentic voice while offering honest insights that highlight your personality in ways that resonate with specific MBA programs. Given that I was a reapplicant, she carefully reviewed my previous application and suggested a meaningful new approach that proved successful. During interview prep, her preparation, attentiveness, and guidance made a tremendous difference. Karen truly prioritizes her clients, and that support helped me earn acceptance to my dream school.
