A former Associate Director of MBA Admissions at Columbia Business School, Emily was a senior member of the admissions committee and manager of the waitlist process. She also led strategic planning for prospective student recruitment and admitted-student yield. Previously, she assessed MBA applications for Wharton and undergraduate applications for Princeton; served as director of educational counseling for a college admissions consulting firm; and was Associate Director of Admissions at Barnard College. Emily earned her master of education degree from Columbia University and bachelor of English literature and Language from Harvard College, where she was captain of the women’s varsity swim team.
When everyone claims to be “the leading MBA admissions company,” do words matter anymore? Who are you supposed to believe?
To be frank, we don’t pay a ton of attention to the field. Our objective can be summed up in one word: “Win.”
We don’t mess around. Our temperament comes from––in all candor––age and experience and enormous success. We keep a lower profile than others, but that’s part of our story. Our word of mouth from former clients is so powerful, we have the luxury to remain focused on the work, rather than on promoting ourselves. (As future business people, just think about how cool that is.) We’re able to dedicate all our time to helping our clients win by getting into elite business schools, and setting them up for success well beyond. If that kind of professional formula sounds like a good match for what you’re all about, come meet us. Let’s find out if we’ll click.
A lot of firms sport elite former Adcoms. And elite MBAs. And eye-popping stats and success and reviews. So…
Yes. If we were in your shoes, our eyes would glaze over, too. But you’ll do your due diligence––and we encourage it. Picking the right coach is important. In the end, you’ll have a strong sense of who’s for real and who’s all flair but no substance. Who offers a sincere, intelligent assessment versus who will prey on your anxiety. Our advice: put together a shortlist of firms, and go meet as many as you need. Get a feel. If you’re truly top MBA material, we’re confident you’ll recognize the unmistakable signature of experience, excellence and sincerity. In your bones.
Cool, but what’s The MBA Exchange’s… thing? What, if anything, makes your firm different?
[*As you get older and wiser, you start to realize how important this is, and more interestingly… how rare. Our M.O. at The MBA Exchange since our inception has been to only invite not just the smartest and most accomplished professionals onto our team, but also only those people who are genuinely “good eggs.” People we genuinely like. People we find to be mature and dependable and committed to others’ success. It may seem like a strange differentiator to call out, but honestly, that’s the one that may matter most at the end of the day.]
We offer three different packages to accommodate individuals with different needs and budgets. Our Gold and Platinum packages include everything under the sun: deep strategic guidance plus comprehensive essay development, along with all the supporting elements such as interview prep, resume and LOR support, and unlimited access to your MBA consultant. We also offer a more economical Silver package (starting at $3,450) for those who prefer a more targeted experience: deep strategy plus essay development (and the flexibility to add on any individual elements as needed).

The friend and former colleague who directed me to Emily described her as a “game-changer” to composing a successful application – as a January term applicant (and now admit!) to CBS I could not agree more. Emily’s guidance throughout the admissions process was invaluable, particularly as I had a narrow window of time in which to apply to the school and complete the GRE (4 weeks to submit an application, 8 weeks to complete GRE).
Emily’s background as a former admissions director makes her extremely insightful as to how to position the strengths of an applicant within the broader framework of what the school is looking for. With Emily’s help I was able to craft a narrative that felt true to myself and submitted with the knowledge that I was presenting the highest quality application I was capable of, although my standardized testing scores were significantly below the average admitted student (GRE 311).
I absolutely believe that my acceptance would not have been possible without Emily’s support and discernment throughout the application process, and highly recommend her to any and all aspiring CBS applicants!
I cannot more highly recommend working with Emily, who was instrumental in my application success. We began working together in June of my application cycle and continued through my interview and acceptance. Emily is incredibly thorough, efficient, prompt, and communicative. She clearly has an in-depth understanding of what the business school admissions offices are looking for, and she skillfully pointed out the gaps in my application and helped me to think through how to fill them. I would not have been able to do this without her guidance. I am confident that without her guidance I would not have had such success in both getting accepted to an MBA program and receiving merit scholarships. Emily is a pleasure to work with, and I truly cannot thank her enough for all of her time and patience during this stressful process!
I would highly recommend Emily! I worked with Emily from the end of November until the round 2 deadlines this year. Under a very tight timeline, she kept me fully on track, giving me succinctly, relevant feedback on all aspects of my application. She is very honest and won’t give you false hope around your admissions chances. She knows the mindset of the admissions staff and gets you moving through all the applicant points very efficiently. If you are unsure whether to get a consultant – it’s really worth the money. Consultants don’t write essays but Emily knew exactly what gaps I had to fill and got me thinking about the right things.
(I got admission to HBS and MIT with a 690 Gmat)
Emily was recommended to me by a friend who went through the whole MBA application process a year earlier. We both agreed that she was instrumental in constructing our successful applications. Her insight and experience was invaluable throughout but Emily was particularly brilliant in helping me understand which elements of my educational, professional, and personal background needed to be highlighted to admissions. Overall, I would, without a shadow of a doubt, recommend Emily to anyone looking to apply for an MBA.
Emily was amazing throughout my application process! Her help and guidance over the past half year has really helped me hone the vision for my life and channel my passion into a focus. I hadn’t really thought of this process in that perspective, but it might be the most important thing I learned! I really can’t thank her enough. It was a pleasure to work with her and I would recommend her to anyone looking to enter this (grueling) process.
Emily was great to work with. Her value was in helping me present myself in the best possible light by understanding my story and what I wanted to do. She helped turn that into a narrative that carried through my application. Throughout the process, Emily was great about taking what I wrote and helping me take that content to the next level. She is a master editor and knows what concepts and details business schools want to read, and makes sure they come through in your application and resume. She was helpful through the interview process, and provided me with a great list of sample questions to answer and went through a mock interview with me.
