From Mexico City to Minneapolis, Julia epitomizes the term ‘career switcher.’ She loves helping students turn their amazing life experiences into winning MBA applications.
Before earning her MBA from the Wharton School and her MA in International Studies from the Lauder Institute, Julia graduated from Brown University with a degree in economics and development studies. A do-gooder at heart, she spent 5 years working in international development across Latin America and Africa. From starting a social enterprise in Tanzania to working in microfinance in Nicaragua, her international experience showed her the unbelievable power of the private sector to transform the developing world. So, she brushed off her math skills and made the giant leap to pursue her joint MBA/MA at the Wharton School/Lauder Institute.
At Wharton, she led the Marketing Club, served as a Student Life Fellow, and organized a lot of karaoke parties. Following Wharton, she joined General Mills where she works in their brand management rotational program. She has worked on so many fun brands like Toaster Strudel to Betty Crocker to Chex Cereal to Totino’s Pizza Rolls. She presently manages strategic growth channels for the company’s meals and baking brands with a focus on unlocking growth in eCommerce.
When she’s not thinking of ways to sell more cookies on the internet, she enjoys biking, hiking, skiing, and reading cheesy novels. She loves living in Minnesota (except in January and February) and can do a killer imitation of the Midwest accent, dontcha know.
As a non-traditional MBA student, Julia loves to learn about MBA candidate’s hopes and dreams and is passionate about helping people translate their experience into a compelling business school story.

I worked with Julia Hazen on my applications to Michigan Ross and Kellogg last year as I began my career transition from Engineering into Business. She was transparent, incredibly helpful and always delightful! She helped me get into BOTH schools and (best of all) helped me negotiate my scholarship! I would recommend Julia to everyone.
I purchased only a 2-3 hour strategy session with Julia, knowing that I wanted to flesh out my story and get thoughts on specific essay prompts for my target schools rather than get support throughout the entire process. Julia was remarkably quick at understanding my background, thoughtful in posing questions and drew out themes and ideas I had struggled to articulate before our meeting. I used much of her guidance throughout my R2 application process, ultimately being accepted into 4/5 of my target schools (all Top 10) with scholarships to 2 of them. Thanks so much, Julia – you are awesome!!
I signed up for the Junior Package with Admissionado after looking at a couple of other consulting services. The biggest difference I realized is just the amount of support the team is bringing. Claudia connected me with Julia Hazen based on my background and target schools. Julia and the team were cheerleaders from the start.
Julia conducted a discovery session to understand basically every major event in my life and how it helped me into who I am today. She understood my perspective and helped me framed up those experiences in my story. There were things that I didn’t consider accomplishments were actually talking points and it’s a real confidence booster. Professionally she helped me translate my industry experience language into a concise story that everybody can understand. She was honest in recommending me just the junior deluxe package seeing that I may not need the resume or interview prep support. I ended up purchasing packages for three schools and applied the lessons to three more schools.
We worked on a tight timeline starting from November for the January round deadline. I was also rewriting my GMAT in between. Julia and the team were extremely quick with turnarounds. I had just submitted an essay for edit and it was back the next few days. It was a lot of hard work during those 2 months where we were concurrently working on multiple schools. The results really paid off. I was accepted to 3/3 schools I applied with Admissionado (1 M7, 2 T15) even with scholarship. The other 3 schools I applied myself using the same lessons had 1 admit and two waitlist. Julia and the team were really supportive throughout the process. I was able to bounce ideas off of her and even get feedback on other portions on my application such as the video portion and optional essay.
MBA is already a huge investment and I would recommend anyone thinking about this path to put the right foot forward by maximizing your chances with Admissionado.
I had the pleasure of working with Julia this past August – December, as I prepared my round 2 applications. Due to budget constraints, I only had Julia help me with one school (Wharton). From our first conversation, Julia was always friendly and eager to share her experience and her network; I feel like I’ve known her for years! She is more than eager to understand who you are as a person and find your unique strengths, which I think is very different from other consultants.
I am a non-traditional candidate, as I currently work in non-profit development and aim to pivot into corporate health and wellness. Julia helped me to develop my “story” and communicate it in a clear, compelling way. My MBA stats are not exactly helpful for my application, so I really think Julia’s guidance on my story was what landed me admits to Wharton, Columbia, Yale SOM, and NYU Stern. When you decide to work with Julia (which you should!) remember to trust her process but also put your best foot forward. The harder you work with her, the better your application will be.
I worked with Julia Hazen from Admissionado on 2 applications, both junior deluxe package. Julia was instrumental in helping me get through my application process, and I can’t be grateful enough! Having come from management consulting, I am trying to pivot into the social impact sphere post-MBA. Julia used her extensive international development experience to help me all the way from narrowing my school list to shaping my story to making my essays more credible. I want to call attention particularly to how she helped me determine my story – given I have several experiences that don’t necessarily string together seamlessly, this advice was crucial and laid the foundation for my apps! Moreover, Julia transformed my essays – she was supportive but also very constructive, pushing me to deliver probably the best essays I’ve written. Whenever I had questions about an essay prompt or on her feedback, I would email Julia and her timely and insightful responses provided me with much-needed guidance during my times of stress and confusion. All and all, I am very grateful for all the help from Julia and the Admissionado team, and can’t thank them enough. I absolutely think they were worth it (in fact, the junior package made the deal honestly very attractive) and I would highly recommend their services!
Julia is top-notch. She provided invaluable advice for me throughout the application process that led to multiple admission decisions with scholarships in hand. She continually pushed me past my comfort zone in my writing to cultivate a pitch to MBA programs that became very compelling both in the application and the interviews. She has a warm and welcoming approach that continues to provide motivation throughout the long and difficult process of applying. I was applying with a low undergrad GPA and Julia helped me mitigate my weaknesses to gain acceptance at a top-20 MBA program. I would highly recommend to any interested candidate!
When I was searching for an MBA counselor, I was told by a few counselors that I would not get into any top program as I hold another MS degree in business. To be honest, I was starting to doubt whether or not to apply and started to question why I wanted to apply in the first place. However, Julia was extremely optimistic and encouraging from the start and her advice and guidance were very helpful – she not only helped me craft great applications that allowed me to get into HBS and Wharton, but she also helped me re-define and better understand why I wanted to do an MBA in the first place. I couldn’t recommend her and Admissionado enough.
I worked with Julia Hazen and the Admisisonado team using their Junior Deluxe package and I cannot recommend them enough! I went 3 for 4 on admissions decisions and got accepted into UVA-Darden, Northwestern-Kellogg, and Berkeley-Haas. I highly recommend this package for the following reasons: Attitude: The application process is obviously very stressful. However, the Admissionado team does an amazing job of being incredibly positive, which helps soothe any anxieties and pumps you up to take on the monumental task of submitting apps. This is something I did not even consider in a service prior to signing up but is probably the thing I valued the most throughout the process. Value: I had a good fundamental profile and am a confident interviewer. I mostly wanted help navigating the process and writing the best possible essays – so I did not want to pay for things such as LORs and interview prep. The junior deluxe package was by far the most cost-efficient and flexible package I found, which allowed me to get exactly what I needed without breaking the bank. Quality: None of the above matters if they service wasn’t up to standards. However, the resume review process was efficient, transparent, and very effective. My essays improved immensely due to their help, and they helped me hone in on the experiences and narrative that best shined through to the admissions committees. I cannot recommend this service enough!
