As an above-average student growing up, saw a sharp nose dive in grades. This led to a 7-year undergrad across 3 different schools between India, UK & USA. A rather unique case. My SOP explains my low GPA and multiple schools transition. Worked 3 on-campus leadership jobs while undertaking 18 credits and running a startup in UK & India.

Built my fitness app startup with over 10k+ downloads and multiple industry partnerships in India and UK. Scored a 770 on my GMAT which was redemption for my low GPA. I have 3 years of experience with a Fortune 100 Engineering Co. across 2 roles in Business Strategy and Product Lifecycle Management. 2 internships with Harley Davidson & Samsung.
Post MBA I would like to take my fitness startup to the next level. The goal is people over profits. This is exactly why the startup is entirely bootstrapped & not VC funded. Would like to see more people make fitness a lifestyle by providing them with the perfect environment, partner, and guidance by using the power of AI.

Given your sub-3.0 GPA and the fact that you are in the most overpopulated part of the elite MBA applicant pool as a male engineer from India, it’s unlikely that Stanford will go for this profile. I am sure that is difficult to hear after you scored a highly impressive 770 on the GMAT, created a successful startup, and worked for a Fortune 100 company and had internships at two well-known and highly respected companies. But here’s the rub: Stanford routinely rejects 94% of its applicants from an already self-selecting pool of highly qualified and impressive candidates. In this group, you will be competing against other male engineers from India with GPAs that are equal to or higher than Stanford’s class average of 3.76. That said, you have more than redeemed your up-and-down undergraduate experience so you are in a much better position at several of the other business schools you are targeting, particularly Chicago Booth, Kellogg, and Ross where your chances are significantly better than they are at Stanford. The big question then is do you even bother applying to Stanford, Wharton, Berkeley, and Yale? Or are you better off targeting schools like Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, UCLA, UVA Darden, and Duke? Frankly, I would suggest the latter. If you want to toss a Hail Mary pass at Stanford, go right ahead. But I would counsel you to include a few of these other excellent schools among your choices. Good luck to you!
