Hi Mr. Indian MBA Aspirant, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. I am going to assume you are applying Fall 2021, to start Fall 2022. Work experience that schools report tends to be on matriculation. Assuming this the case – now is the time to get started! If by chance you are applying Fall 2022, then you are uber organized and will be able to continue to make your application stronger. Sounds like you’ve had some interesting experiences in your family’s technology products company. And being on the earlier end of the years of experience spectrum, I think it is important to be able to show you’ve had significant leadership experiences that you can lend to the classroom – make sure these experiences come out through …
And being on the earlier end of the years of experience spectrum, I think it is important to be able to show you’ve had significant leadership experiences that you can lend to the classroom – make sure these experiences come out through your essays, resume and recommendations. Another big plus is that is sounds like you want to go back to your family company – so win on the employment side post-MBA. Your expansion goals make sense and I’m sure you’ve got some compelling stories behind the growth that you’ve already realized. Not knowing where you are on the GMAT journey, I’d encourage you to consider taking it again. While you’ve chosen a list of schools that are in your range – we typically see GMAT scores 20-30 points higher than the average at a program for Indian male engineers. The good news is that you definitely have time. If you have reached the end of your GMAT journey – and this journey is personal for everyone – it will be important to maximize all other parts of your application. I’m not used to seeing Indian university GPAs in a 4 point scale – and you will not need to convert it for schools – they will want to see your original GPA. If it is an equivalent to a 3.8, this could help overcome the concerns on your GMAT. Obviously Cornell with their family business focus is a great program for you. You might want to also consider UNC Kenan Flagler’s Family Enterprise Center. Overall I think your chances are strong across your list of school and would be stronger at Cornell with a higher GMAT score.
