Mr. Nigerian Engineer

About Me:

I am a production engineer with over 4 years of experience in project management and business analysis at a major Oil and Gas Corporation in Nigeria (ExxonMobil). I excel at managing projects and operations and coming up with unique solutions to business challenges.

Undergrad School: University of Benin

Undergrad Major: Production Engineering

GPA: 3.5/5.0

GRE: 310

Age: 29,  Ethnicity: Black or African American

Work History:

Title: Project Controls Engineer

Industry: Power / Energy

Company: Fortune 500

Length of Employment: 1 yr, 1 mos

Title: Business Analyst

Industry: Power / Energy

Company: Fortune 500

Length of Employment: 2 yrs

Big Life Wins:

One of my key achievements was being able to modify the operational structure in an FMCG company through observation and application of key engineering principles. I was able to minimize downtime and reduce waste by recommending a reduction of operational speeds on the production line machinery.

Post MBA Goal:

I intend to combine my technical background with business and operations management skills which in turn will better position me to influence key decision-making processes while having the “big picture” in mind. Essentially merging technical know-how with a business/ financial grasp to enable better business decision making ideologies.

Hi Mr. Nigerian Engineer, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. Thanks for writing in! Looks like you’ve already started making the transition to the business side from engineering with your analyst role – and project management experience. While I am biased, I think engineering teaches you to solve problems – which happen both in the technical and business world. And it sounds like you’ve had some solid process improvements at your firm. There are a couple places I’d like to dig deeper to give you a better assessment. You haven’t listed any extracurricular activities – this is important for b school and Kellogg in particular. How have you impacted your community either in undergrad or since? I’d like to know more about the type of role …
