Hi Mr. Tax CPA, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. There is a lot that I like in your profile: strong professional experience, with solid and accelerated promotion cycles; community involvement; leadership (and professional ranking) in chess; (Wondering if you ever teach chess in your mentoring?); strong GPA in Acct. While your GMAT score is going to be lower than the average at these schools – I think your professional experience and GPA will show your ability to succeed. Where I would want to dig in more is your goals. Strategy consulting seems like a logical fit for you – but why consulting? And what do you want to do aspirationally? What skills will you gain from consulting that will help you achieve your aspirations? There are many people transitioning from finance/accounting to consulting – and so you need to build a story to stand out from the pack. Maybe chess is it? What makes a story compelling is the authentic passion that is driving your goals. You can go almost anywhere from consulting – or stay in consulting and lead a practice. Sometimes when I start to work with clients going into consulting, through introspection and discussion we learn there is another route to find their passion. Other times, clients think this is what business schools want to hear. But the truth is business schools want to help you achieve your goals – so you need to know what they are. With a compelling story, I think you have a solid shot across these schools. And wish you the best of luck!
