Recently at work, ensured the completion of two-stream restoration projects, worth over $1M combined, by completing construction inspections daily and settling disputes between the contractor and the county government. For my community theatre, spearheaded the response to COVID-19 and converted our entire audition process to a virtual format.
Broadly, I am interested in business operations. While I am also interested in consulting, my ideal job after receiving my MBA would be to work in sports management operations. While I realize this is a niche field, I believe my passion for sports and lack of women who pursue it would make me a unique candidate.

Hi Ms. Environmental Engineer, this is Kristen from MBA Prep School. Your academic background and GMAT score are right in the ballpark for most of the programs you are targeting and I like that you have been active in your community, especially in response to the impact of COVID 19 on the arts (as a former high school theater nerd, I thank you)! You have a nice balance of personal and professional impact that I think your target schools will like. You will need to focus your efforts on building out your career goal motivations and how each of your programs can help you break into a more niche area. How did you get interested in sports? How else are you/were you actively involved in …

You will need to focus your efforts on building out your career goal motivations and how each of your programs can help you break into a more niche area. How did you get interested in sports? How else are you/were you actively involved in sports beyond intramurals? What is motivating you to make a switch from the environmental engineering path you began on in college and have followed for the past 4 years? You’ll also want to clarify how consulting comes into play. While it is good to be flexible around career goals, you also want to have a focus and not portray yourself as indecisive . It will be important for you to find the connection between sports management ops and consulting that showcases their similarities in terms of skills required and professional fulfillment for you (both allow you to solve problems, both involve strategy, etc.). Please feel free to reach out if you’d like help in bringing the pieces of your story together!
Hi Ms. Environmental Engineer, this is Donna Bauman with Stratus Admissions Counseling weighing in on your profile. Itās great to see you engineering background and overall solid academics and testing. I agree you could go the consulting route if needed but I hear that passion for sports management operations. I would keep this in mind in looking at MBA programs to select schools where there will be active sports business clubs so that you can make these connections in the program and potentially have that as an option for post MBA careers. If you are clear that your backup plan is consulting related I donāt see this being an issue in your application. Darden has a Media, Sports & Entertainment club and I would reach …

I would keep this in mind in looking at MBA programs to select schools where there will be active sports business clubs so that you can make these connections in the program and potentially have that as an option for post MBA careers. If you are clear that your backup plan is consulting related I donāt see this being an issue in your application. Darden has a Media, Sports & Entertainment club and I would reach out to the president and ask him where members have gone to work after their MBA. Fuqua obviously also has a big sports brand in Duke basketball and there are resources around the sports business there. Whartonās admissions team has been working with MLB on some sports analytics projects and I think youād find a really interesting culture there around sports that could be very helpful to you. With CBS in NYC and the Sports Business Association you would find some great resources. It is really important to do some research prior to selecting a favorite program to get a sense of which programs are offering some of the best resources to make this transition if you really want this to happen. A few other programs that also have some great resources that maybe you are not aware of would be Sloanāwhich runs a really impressive sports conference each year (or at least used to before Covid) and then Ross and also Anderson, GSB and Marshall. Donāt overlook Kellogg either. Let us know if you want to discuss your strategy in how you convey a compelling story around your interests.
