Ms. Insightful Panda

About Me:

I’m an Economics graduate from a prestigious institute in India – Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University. I graduated in the Top 10% of my class with an overall score of 87.5%. I currently work at ZS Associates India as a Strategy Insights and Planning Associate Consultant for the past ~4 yrs (with one promotion).

Undergrad School: Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University

Undergrad Major: Economics

GPA: 87.5%

GMAT: 700

Age: 25,  Ethnicity: Asian or Indian

Other Degree/Certification: Strategic Management -Introduction to Corporate and Business Strategy, Industry Analysis, M&A from London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) Summer School; Taken a course in Marketing Analytics from UVA Darden (Coursera, but this was sponsored by my company so I got the Darden certificate as well, with the highest grade) and a course from Dale Carnegie on Effective client communications

School Name: London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) Summer School

Extracurriculars: Volunteered for 2 years at National Service Scheme (NSS); Taught English, Mathematics and Science to underprivileged children and women; A majority of these students were family members of school staff (peons, cooks etc.); Head of "Beyond the Classroom" Club in the Economics Department at university - worked to foster learning beyond textbooks; Arranged several field visits (for a student body of 100+) to institutions and organizations ties to economics in some way or the other e.g. visit to Parliament in session, NITI Aayog (this is a governmental think-tank in India), Part of a dance team for 2 popular Bollywood choreographs - learnt Bollywood and Jazz dance forms and performed in a group for an audience of 500+; Recently started learning how to play guitar, My family loves to travel so I've been to 19 countries up till now (if you count The Vatican as a separate country!). Definitely aware / have experienced many different cultures.

Work History:

Title: Strategy Insights & Planning Associate Consultant

Industry: Consulting

Company: Fortune 500

Length of Employment: 4 yrs

Big Life Wins:

Facilitated a go/no-go decision for a huge pharmaceutical firm’s novel antibiotic drug that promised to reform the landscape of antibiotic resistance in the world. It is a moral dilemma when you have two conflicting things to consider: the client’s balance sheet or your ethical responsibility to improve the world’s standing on health.

Post MBA Goal:

I’d want to continue within consulting – ideally MBB. I am also very open to strategy roles in FMCG or Tech companies (Facebook, Apple), especially since “Strategy Insights & Planning” is my forte!

Hi Ms. Insightful Panda! This is Kate Richardson, Senior Admissions Consultant, weighing in on your profile. You’ve got an excellent academic background, schools should know the reputation of your university and you’ve got very strong marks. I wish your GMAT was just a bit higher (more so for the schools like CBS and Kellogg on your list), but for INSEAD, if you’re above the 70th percentile for both Quant & Verbal, and your IR is 6 or higher then you should be in great shape. ZS has a great reputation, and with your promotion and healthcare expertise, I think you’ll be a great MBB candidate. If you pursue the FMCG or Tech route, I do wonder about how you’ll connect that to your past experience, …

Hi Ms. Insightful Panda, This is Donna Bauman, Senior MBA Admissions counselor from Stratus Admissions. You have some great work experience that will help you in your MBA applications. For INSEAD I like your international experience and exposure. You already have consulting experience so it is just pivoting to consulting for tech if you choose that. What in your background inspires you to do this? You seem to have some excellent healthcare experience you are leaving on the table if you don’t pursue that. I encourage you to do some work thinking about your post MBA career goals and how you can best leverage your past experience to help you make this transition. The GMAT is not going to help with some of the US …

  • The MBA Exchange | Odds Assessment: 30%

Hi Insightful Panda, this is Deepak Punwani from MBA Exchange. For various reasons am glad to see that INSEAD is your first choice. You have a great academic background with a top 10% from SRCC. And your extra curricular activities are also very impressive. You seem like someone INSEAD will want to have in class basis your personality traits that shine through your background. My only concern is your work experience. INSEAD sees a lot of pre MBA consultants applying to the program and ZS is a big feeder of this trend. So your competition will be fierce from within this cohort and you will have to execute really well to stand out. Therefore your work experience essays and also your professional recommendations will …
