About the Program

Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business’ Silicon Valley touchpoint makes its Online MBA program unique in that most of the faculty are based in the area and do consulting work with firms there. The school’s small class size allows Online MBA students to benefit from these valuable faculty connections because all faculty that teach the on-campus MBA programs also teach the Online MBA program.

A tech focus is weaved throughout the program, as most Leavey students work in Silicon Valley or in tech hubs like Los Angeles and San Diego, where their coursework can be applied. Elective coursework caters to Silicon Valley companies who are eager to attain graduates with knowledge of data analytics. Students obtain these valuable assets through several concentrations, such as data science and business analytics, finance, marketing, and leading innovative organizations, which covers strategy and chain management.

However, Leavey’s robust selection of electives does not stop at tech. It extends to include a more niche variety that Online MBA students would not otherwise have access to, such as food innovation.

According to Amanda Brehm, Director of Online Graduate Business Programs at Santa Clara University, many students who are based in Central California, where agriculture business is active, are utilizing the Online MBA and taking courses that are part of the Food Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center. This is just one example of the many courses offered on campus that Online MBA students may take.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF A LEAVEY MBA

The community feel is a vital aspect of the Santa Clara Leavey Online MBA. The recently launched SCU Anywhere program allows Online MBA students to take elective courses with those on campus, creating synergy between the two programs and opportunities to network with other students.

Leavey also launched the Silicon Valley Professional Dashboard, an exclusive feature for Online MBA students. This online dashboard helps students track their progress through four domains: Principled Leadership, Communication and Team Building, Analysis and Interpretation, and Innovation and Entrepreneurial Mindset. Throughout their two-years in the program, students will be prompted to apply their coursework within these four areas to their real-world professional endeavors.

For example, at the end of a course, such as Leading People and Organizations, students will be asked to answer a prompt and apply the coursework to their job, then record and upload their results. At the end of their two-years, students can look back and see how they have progressed and applied different coursework skills in their careers. The SVP dashboard also serves as a place to receive feedback from professors on their progress.

Because Leavey does not have a full-time program, all student services and clubs are geared toward the working professional, so no one misses a club meeting or campus event because of work.
