About the Program

UVA McIntire’s M.S. in the Management of IT (MSMIT) is a specialized, one-year program designed to develop savvy technology managers and strategic decision-makers who excel at delivering business value through information technology. The program offers an innovative curriculum with a real-world problem-solving approach and an outstanding faculty dedicated to teaching and bringing the corporate perspective into the classroom. The program is designed for professionals with at least two years of work experience.

Application Deadlines:

August 16, 2024; November 5, 2024; January 5, 2025; March 5, 2025; May 5, 2025; June 5, 2025*
*After June 5, 2025, applications will be considered on a space-available rolling basis through the final submission deadline of June 30, 2025.

Program Format and Schedule

The M.S. in the Management of Information Technology Program is 30 credit hours and is conducted in a hybrid executive format. The 12-month program features a combination of in-person sessions and online learning. Monthly in-person classes are at the metro-accessible Valo Park campus in Tysons, Virginia. These sessions include robust discussions, engaging presentations, and hands-on collaborative group projects and activities. Between these sessions, students collaborate through online platforms like Brightspace and Zoom. These live virtual class sessions are typically held mid-week, ensuring continuous engagement and learning.

The program begins in September with an orientation and overview, followed by four learning modules: Enterprise Architecture, Project & Product Management, Digital Transformation, and IT Strategy. Each module examines one aspect of how information technology produces business value.

During module 2, students may travel to Andes wine country in Mendoza, Argentina, for a global project retrospective experience. This international component allows students to develop cross-cultural competencies as they work with local Argentinian companies on a historical reconstruction of a recent IT project.
