Credentials: Doepner-Hove heads the Masters in Human Resources and Industrial Relations program at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, where she teaches courses in employee engagement and development. She holds both a JD and a MA in HRIR from the University of Minnesota.
Falink is a senior lecturer of work and organizations at Carlson. A former human resources director and recruiter, Falink has led six sigma initiatives and interviewed over a thousand people before entering academia.
Graded: Students can choose to explore course videos, discussions, and ungraded assignments for free, but they won’t be able to submit graded assignments, earn a certificate, or complete a specialization without paying a $119 fee.
Description: According to a recent SHMR study, it costs, on average, up to 6-9 months’ salary to replace an employee. And those costs include lost productivity, advertising, time spent selecting and onboarding new staffers, and cleaning up new hire mistakes. As a result, it pays to hire the right people the first time. In this course, students will learn research-based best practices for recruiting, choosing and training new employees. In particular, the course will focus on how to connect corporate strategy with recruitment and follow legal requirements to avoid potential embarrassment. Moreover, it will examine recent trends in hiring using social media and analytics.
