MiM application tips

IESE’s Master in Management (MiM) is a comprehensive 11-month program aimed at recent university graduates who are preparing to enter the workforce for the first time.

There are 3 essay questions that applicants for IESE’s Master in Management (MiM) must answer. The School gives some insider advice on how to do so to help your application stand out.

IESE has a long, rich history of training middle and senior executives. When it started the MiM program in 2019 it began the work of “helping recent graduates gain the analytical tools and humanistic background needed to prepare them for their first job” in the words of IESE Dean Franz Heukamp.

Let the tips here inspire and guide you.

Ask What Qualities Supported Your Academic Life

This is really key for Essay 1 of 3, which asks for a 300-word answer to the following question: ‘How do you think your academic achievements reflect your personal and professional potential? Justify your answer with specific examples.’

“We encourage applicants to first think about the qualities that help contribute to your academic achievements. These qualities could be formed from good habits that you have developed through time, personality traits that you possess or values that keep you grounded even in challenging times,” says MiM Admissions Director, Paula Amorim.

Have Clear Your Career Goals

What are your specific goals, in terms of target roles or companies? IESE really wants to know. In the second essay you will be asked: ‘What are your professional goals post-MiM and how would IESE help you achieve them? Reflect on potential industries, function, geography, and/or skills you would like to develop.’

“How do these goals fit to your values and what impact do you hope to bring to potential organization or sectors, in the short to medium term? If you view the MiM as a chance to explore the different career options, you can keep the perspective broad, but still define your priorities and areas of interest,” Amorim says.

Be Honest and Reflective

We really want to know who you are. Use Essay 3, in particular, to introduce yourself to the admissions team in a more personal way.

The question here will be: ‘Tell us something you learned that shaped who you are today.’

“Keeping in mind concrete examples, i.e. learnings can come from personal experiences, external circumstances or people in your life. It doesn’t have to be complex and major learning but more importantly, it should have had a significant impact and resonate with you,” says Amorim.

Plenty Of Rounds To Choose From

Finally, some dates for your diary. Applicants are encouraged to apply early, especially if striving for a scholarship:

Round 1: October 19, 2020

Round 2: December 7, 2020

Round 3: February 8, 2021

Round 4: April 5, 2021

Round 5: May 17, 2021

Round 6: June 21, 2021

Round 7: July 19, 2021

Rolling admissions until August 31.

There are also important payment deadlines on our website that you may want to take into consideration as it could determine which round suits you best. Good luck! To apply for the MiM brochure click here.
