12 Charts That Tell The Wharton MBA Story

The Wharton School is placing a big bet on business analytics

Who recruits MBAs at the Wharton School? Pretty much, who you'd expect. The school used to published detailed statistics on its major employers but stopped doing so 11 years ago in 2010. Ever since then, Wharton only lists the companies that have hired two of more of the MBAs in its graduating class. Even so, we thought it would be fascinating to see the historical data, in part because with few exceptions it hasn't changed all that much.

Here's an exclusive look at the major employers of the Class of 2020 at Wharton. You won't find this data in the school's employment report. It was laboriously culled from LinkedIn profiles of last year's MBA graduates at Wharton by Menlo Coaching, the MBA admissions consulting firm. Surprisingly, perhaps, it shows McKinsey being dislodged from its long-held position as the number one employer of Wharton MBAs, replaced by rival BCB. Even more surprising is the fact that after the three global consulting firms, MBB, the next two largest employers aren't bulge bracket banks. Instead, they are Amazon and Google.
